Shoei RF-1200 Dominance Helmet

Dominating the sport helmet market, the Shoei RF 1200 Dominance Helmet represents years of development and evolution of the Shoei RF Helmet series, distilled into one of the most advanced sport helmets available. The RF1200 has evolved through both wind tunnel testing and on-track rider feedback into a helmet that is light-weight, quiet and most of all extremely safe.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Quietness

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

Ventilation

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Features:

  • Four shell sizes
  • Dual density EPS liner
  • Superior ventilation
  • 3D Max-Dry System II Liner
  • E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick-Release System) CWR-1 Shield System
  • Neatly secure chin strap
  • Includes Pinlock pins and lens insert
  • Includes breath guard and chin curtain
  • Snell M2010 and DOT Certified

Nice Helmet! I was torn between getting a medium or a large. Bought the medium and sat at the kitchen table doing college work for two days with the helmet on and decided to keep it! Excellent wide vision and the pinlock works amazing. Only the slightest bit of fogging near my mouth during a rainy and cool ride (no vents open). Opening the chin vent cleared things right up. Helmet remained comfortable even during a ten hour day. Only the slightest bit of tightness on the top of the forehead. Large would have been too loose. October 20, 2014
Great! Got the dominance in red/white/blue and it is gorgeous. Lots of compliments on it. I had to use the adhesive attachment for the Scala rider Q1 to mount it. The slide in a pinch attachment can't work on this helmet. Otherwise its great! Comfy, fits well(typical shoei size), and with the gold visor its a show stopper. :) September 15, 2014
It's a really good helmet, but could be better. I've worn a Shark RSX for the last good few years and replaced it with the RF1200 this season. The finish and paint on the Shoei is excellent. First thing I noticed when I put it on was that it was comfortable and fit to size, but it wasn't as plush as my Shark. The Shark just feels velvety on you're cheeks and forehead, this is not to say that the Shoei isn't comfortable, it is, but completely different texture of material than the Shark. The vision of the Shoei is excellent. Especially peripheral which hands down beats my old helmet. The helmet noise is less than the Shark by a considerable amount. I wish I could say the same about the face shield. Which fogs. The breath guard helps but at stop it's best to have it open. But, the ventilation is leaps and bounds better than the Shark. It flows a lot of air. Although the Shark flows less air, it has never once fogged on me, ever. Shark uses thick 3mm for the face shield. You can tell it's made of high quality material when you pick it up. The Shoei face shield just feels flimsy in comparison and it fogs. Both the Shark and Shoei shield release mechanism tie for me. Both mechanisms are almost instant, to split hairs would be wasting time. The Shoei does come with a Pinlock shield insert that prevents fogging and it is easy to install, but what I want to know is why doesn't Shoei just put in a nice thick face shield that doesn't. Other manufacturers seem to have it down. I'm very happy with my helmet purchase and like it better than my old one. I probably would have gotten another Shark, but nothing in their new lines grabbed my attention. Maybe next time. Overall, buy this helmet, it's worth it. September 1, 2014
Super nice. Great fit and finish. View is wide and free. The noise level and air flow is average. High quality. August 25, 2014
Great helmet Note, This is the first helmet I have ever owned. Based a lot of my decision on previous reviews of the RF-1100. This being its successor I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was right, from its looks, to its DOT & SNELL ratings this is well worth the price. The videos Revzilla does for all their products help me tremendously in my decisions. I haven't rode too many miles this summer (Eastern, PA) but when I have it's certainly been warm and humid out and I have felt the air flow well. Visibility is great. Haven't had the chance to use the pin-lock yet, so cant comment on that yet. I was right on the verge of small/medium (outer shell is the same), so played it safe and purchased the small. Its a very snug fit which is correct but probably could have gone with med. and been OK. The pads have relaxed a bit, but I am thinking of buying the med. pads to install in it. Overall an excellent helmet. Good job Shoei & Revzilla. August 4, 2014
RF-1200 worth the money, excellent helmet I won't get into the features of this helmet because they are well covered in the product description. I purchased this to replace my RF-1000 that was about 10 years old. That was and still is an excellent helmet, but it was losing some of its snugness and I wanted a brighter look. The RF-1200 Dominance has totally met my expectations. Fit and finish are superb. It is lighter than my RF-1000, has better airflow, and the face shield system is better. I have an oval shaped head. Not too round, not too narrow, pretty average for size. With my head shape, I found that this helmet was true to size. So if you have an oval shaped head, I would suggest getting the helmet exactly as specified by Shoei based upon your head circumference. This is a very expensive helmet, especially in this color scheme. But if you have the money to spend, and looking for the features of this helmet, you will not be disappointed. The quality will be remembered, long after the price is forgotten! I must also add that Revzilla truly provides outstanding service. I have bought many products from them, and they make online shopping a breeze. Quick shipments, fantastic return policy, knowledgeable and friendly customer service. August 2, 2014
Great helment Great helmet does have a very wide field of vision. Used the RF-1100 Before this and it was louder and didn't have as wide of vision. The 1200 is also much quieter. Only complaint i can say i have is for some reason when I take of the helmet it scrapes my ears. Kinda annoying but i would not give the helmet up even with that small discomfort. July 29, 2014
Small shell, light, and comfortable. Switched to the RF1200 after using Bell RS-1 and Stars the past few seasons. Why? I looked like a bobble head because the shells are so large, even in a medium helmet. Also the Bell Star is painfully loud and too large for a medium. After buying my Bells I watched all video reviews and get the impression they are more for the track and I'm basically a commuter. The video reviews for the RF1200 are pretty much dead. Smaller shell, nice snug fit, very quiet, and great field of vision. I think there could be more or better ventilation. Also, getting the visor to open up just a crack is harder than it should be. Bell has a better feature for that. If you have a long oval head like mine you may find your jaw brushing the inside of the helmet and you may need to remove the nose guard. The helmet does come with one pinlock lens which wasn't advertised when I bought it. July 13, 2014

Ramy H asked: Would this Helmet be good on track? I'm looking for a good track helemt within a proper price range? Mar 9, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Tim B: This is a pretty high-end helmet and if you're new to the track, expect that you will crash at some point. A crash can completely craze the side of a helmet (and screen) so apart from it being a very bad idea to reuse a helmet, you will probably not want to show up with a trashed looking helmet and will also regret how you damaged your new helmet.

Get a low-end new helmet or good used helmet. After you've come off your bike once or twice, re-evaluate where your skill level is and then decide on a more expensive helmet.

Frank W: I think the field if vision is great with this helmet. I had a Joe rocket carbon helmet before and the shoei is much better. The ventilation works well. I highly recommend this helmet. Nov 19, 2014

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Taylor G: The Dominance does have reflective material, I have the black/ grey helmet and basically all the grey you see on the helmet (except the mesh design) is reflective for example the stripes and pinstripes. Mar 13, 2014
