Shoei RF-1200 Dominance Helmet

Dominating the sport helmet market, the Shoei RF 1200 Dominance Helmet represents years of development and evolution of the Shoei RF Helmet series, distilled into one of the most advanced sport helmets available. The RF1200 has evolved through both wind tunnel testing and on-track rider feedback into a helmet that is light-weight, quiet and most of all extremely safe.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Small shell, light, and comfortable. Switched to the RF1200 after using Bell RS-1 and Stars the past few seasons. Why? I looked like a bobble head because the shells are so large, even in a medium helmet. Also the Bell Star is painfully loud and too large for a medium. After buying my Bells I watched all video reviews and get the impression they are more for the track and I'm basically a commuter. The video reviews for the RF1200 are pretty much dead. Smaller shell, nice snug fit, very quiet, and great field of vision. I think there could be more or better ventilation. Also, getting the visor to open up just a crack is harder than it should be. Bell has a better feature for that. If you have a long oval head like mine you may find your jaw brushing the inside of the helmet and you may need to remove the nose guard. The helmet does come with one pinlock lens which wasn't advertised when I bought it. July 13, 2014
Great top of the line shoei helmet. I love this helmet it is very light and has great ventilation. If I had to buy again I think I would go with the GT Air because of the internal sun shade. I bought the blue mirror shield and it looks great on this helmet. I do need the breath guard to keep it from fogging while at stop lights. June 30, 2014
Quiet and light I was amazed at how much lighter and quieter this helmet was over my X-eleven. I have been using Shoei helmets for decades and this one doesn't disappoint. I have received quite a few complements on the graphics also. I love this helmet! June 24, 2014
It's a Shoei... that says it all Everything about this helmet is top notch and very high quality. It's very light and feels incredible. It's on the top end of the spectrum so price is higher than average but that's what you get for having a helmet of this quality. I can't really comment on the noise factor because I wear ear plugs. Get the dark smoke lens when you buy this because not only does it do exactly what you want it to do but the cool factor goes through the roof. Get this helmet if you are serious about gear and safety. June 23, 2014
Great Look! I could not be more pleased with my purchase. I was between the graphics-less RF-1200 and this helmet, even purchasing the graphics-less (white) first. Curiosity led me to make a second purchase, where ultimately I chose the clear winner. Despite the added cost, the graphics, fit, noise, weight and feel are absolutely worth it. June 23, 2014
Excellent helmet, but watch the fit! Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love this helmet. The way that it is constructed makes it much easier turn my head more naturally, so now I can better check for traffic over my shoulder than I could with my last helmet. My rides are also much quieter now as this helmet does a great job of keeping noise down without completely muffling everything. My only issue with the helmet is that it seems to be built for a slightly narrower face, so the initial fit is great around the head, but my cheeks are a little squished in the front. Fortunately the cheek pads are replaceable and come in different sizes to fit your head. Unfortunately, the thinner cheek pads seem very popular and have been hard to come by. I sort of take that as a sign that the shape of the helmet really does cater to a narrower face, so if you have a little bit of a rounder face, try to pick up a pair of the thinner cheek pads for a more comfortable fit. June 23, 2014
Excellent quality Love this helmet . Fits perfect, once it's on, a little tight getting it on and off, but once on, it's the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. The supplied pin lock face shield is awesome. The close tolerances of the cheek pads and fit, made fitting my intercom a challenge.. A slight modification to the plastic inserts, allowed a neat wiring job. Buy this helmet with confidence. My only complaint is that this helmet is so quiet, I can't hear the awesomeness of my Termi exhaust system on my Ducati Multistrada 1200S GT.. June 16, 2014
A great helmet I have worn Shoei helmets for years. I have owned a RF900, 1000, 1100 and now the 1200. Shoei helmets bare none are the best of the market. This is the first review I have done so I am going to throw it out there. I bought the RF1200 Dominance, the colors and graphics are awesome....I have owned through the years the light silver and the anthracite....which I loved.....But if you can swing it, get one with graphics....you will be happy. I am going to do this review based on the person that has a RF1100 and thinking about the 1200. The new shield on the 1200 is a lot better. The seal is better and the view is better. The venting is about the same....could not tell a big difference between them. The 1200 is a little more quiet than the 1100. Now here is the big one....I have always worn a size med in the helmets, so I got a med in the 1200. It is more snug than the 1100. Its not bad but you can tell the difference. I have worn the helmet a few times now.....its a little better but still snug.....being honest the 1100 feels better. But overall the 1200 is a great helmet. Now the million dollar question.....do you give up your 1100 for the 1200. Well if your 1100 is getting a little old and you feel its time for a new helmet....yeah I would do it. But if your buying the 1200 thinking that's its better than the 1100.....I would not buy it for that reason.....the 1100 is an awesome helmet......I hope this helps someone out there...ride safe. Ramy H asked: Would this Helmet be good on track? I'm looking for a good track helemt within a proper price range? Mar 9, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Tim B: This is a pretty high-end helmet and if you're new to the track, expect that you will crash at some point. A crash can completely craze the side of a helmet (and screen) so apart from it being a very bad idea to reuse a helmet, you will probably not want to show up with a trashed looking helmet and will also regret how you damaged your new helmet.

Get a low-end new helmet or good used helmet. After you've come off your bike once or twice, re-evaluate where your skill level is and then decide on a more expensive helmet.

Gabriel R asked: Does this helmet have reflective material like the RF-1200 Mystify? Thanks! Dec 28, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Taylor G: The Dominance does have reflective material, I have the black/ grey helmet and basically all the grey you see on the helmet (except the mesh design) is reflective for example the stripes and pinstripes. Mar 13, 2014
