Shoei RF-1100 Pious Helmet

The Shoei RF-1100 Pious Helmet is one of our favorite graphics in the RF-1100 line here at RevZilla. The cross and fleur-de-lis pattern with hints of red is crisp and striking against the black background. The Shoei RF-1100 is the next generation of helmet, building on the success and popularity of the RF-1000. Combining customer and dealer requests with advanced technology, modern testing practices, and 50 years of helmet-building experience the world-class designers at Shoei have molded a brand new helmet from scratch. Their attention to detail and aggressive styling makes this helmet the next step in the evolution of perfection.

Tech Specs

  • 5 shell sizes
  • Weight: 3.54 Pounds / 1604grams (based on size medium / solid color)
  • DOT and Snell M2010 approved

CW-1 Face Shield

  • The CW-1, three-dimensionally curved shield is both wider and taller than the CX-1V it replaces

Q.R.S.A. (Quick Release Self-Adjusting) Base Plate System

  • Q.R.S.A. base plate allows for tool-less face shield removal and installation.
  • Every time the shield is lowered, the spring-loaded base plate (U.S. patent pending 11/799935) pulls the shield back to contact the window beading evenly, ensuring a wind and waterproof seal between shield and helmet

Interior System

  • The entire interior lining (cheek pads, crown liner and chin strap covers) is easily removed to allow cleaning
  • Each component of the inner liner is ergonomically designed to offer the ultimate in safety, fit and comfort
  • Eyeglass compatible

AIM+ Shell Construction:

  • Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel and professional riders’ feedback
  • High performance fiber materials are combined with extremely elastic organic fibers to create shell structure that is ultra lightweight, rigid and resilient
  • 5 Shell Sizes and six EPS liner configurations present increased fit options that comfortably fit most head sizes
  • A third generation Tail Fin, integrated into the bottom rear beading in combination with the Shell-Integrated Spoiler, allows smooth airflow that reduces drag and lift

Variable Ventilation System

  • Upper Air Intake Vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior
  • Top outlet vent is separate from the Shell-
  • Integrated Spoiler, allowing it to be positioned for optimum flow-through ventilation
  • Four rear outlet vents allow for adjustment of airflow based on riding position
  • Enlarged lower air intake/defroster vent reduces shield fogging and increases ventilation
  • The rear/neck outlets allow for effective air exhaust
  • Breath guard and chin curtain included

Shoei RF-1100 Pious Helmet 4.7 5 339 339
worn only once but nice so far great fit, as i expect from Shoei. XS is my size and fits like a glove. vision is awesome and graphics are great. worn only once in cool weather so have not used the vents yet. worn with the new dainese del mar jacket that has collar bone protectors and felt uncomfortable and restricted in head movement. will try without the 5 piece collar bone protectors and see if it is more comfortable. Short term use hence only 4 stars. May 6, 2013
Great Helmet This helmet is amazing! Practical and lacking gimmicks, it delivered exactly what I was looking for. Best airflow of any helmet I've ever used. Very quiet when the shield is fully closed. I measured very slightly larger than medium but the medium is perfect. Having a slender face, this was the better option for me than the qwest. The integrated spoiler makes this helmet stand out, but it's the quality of every component makes it worth the price. May 22, 2013
I love this helmet Arrived very quickly. Best helmet I've ever had. Feels light in the wind. The fit felt a little tighter on the cheeks at first but feels perfect now. Doesn't shake around at all. The amount of venting is awesome. May 20, 2013
Great Helmet!! I upgraded from an old cheap helmet to the RF1100 and I couldn't be happier. Great fit, quiet and the graphics look sharp too. Worth the money to protect my dome. May 20, 2013
Best helmet I've had so far This is my 2nd helmet and the 5th I have worn. With that being said, the difference between this Shoei helmet and the cheaper ones that I have borrowed are night and day. I can actually breathe in this helmet! It has great visibility, low noise, it cools your head well if you're a person that gets hot easily like I do, and a perfect matte black finish for those that want to look good without looking like a child painted their helmet. A great buy for a DOT and Snell approved helmet. Your head is your most important part, protect it! May 20, 2013
Great Quality and Finish I have worn Shoei helmets for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. The RF-1100 is the continued evolution of my previous helmets. It fits great, has a good field of view and is substantially lighter than my past lids. I have been off a motorcycle for a few years and my son recently purchased the same helmet with great reviews so the decision was easy. I am very pleased. May 18, 2013
Great Value! You can't beat the price on this light weight SNELL helmet. Very happy with the purchase. May 18, 2013
Amazing Helmet I bought this helmet last summer and thought I would give my review now, since I have put in a lot of riding time with it. This is my third helmet (first shoei) and boy oh boy is it amazing. I have it in the matte black. Barely any noise at speed, it's light and looks hot. It was comfortable for me from the start. I ride a zx6r and everytime I go out I don't even notice it and can focus on riding. Also people, especially chicks, love the look. :) May 17, 2013

Answer:
The RF-1100 has speaker cut outs and pretty good room in the chin as well which allows for any type of microphone. A few of the staff members here have an RF-1100 and mounting any device is easy to do and takes about 10 minutes. The ear cutouts are big enough to fit any of the speakers from the Bluetooth systems that we sell. We would recommend buying the device that has the features and price point that you want, as mounting it to the helmet wouldn't be an issue.

Answer:
The helmets are made in Japan and there is a considerable delay between manufacture and their ending up in a warehouse in the USA. While a helmet made in 2010 is a bit old even considering the above, you will still get 5 years of use out of it. Nobody is going to start opening up box after box just to try to find you the newest helmet that they have. A helmet dated a year ago would probably be right off the boat. So if it was made at the end of 2010 then it probably has only been in the warehouse for a short time.

Answer:
Typically we recommend starting with the smaller size in situations where someone falls between sizes or is right at the top of a size range. Based on your head measurement, we would recommend a size Small as the size Medium would likely be too big once the helmet has been ridden in a few times

Answer:
Small first, for sure. I found that the ranges are accurate, at least for my shaped-head, and like most helmets, it will loosen just a bit over time as the pads break-in. Also, you can get thinner pads to give you some more room if the original one don't break in as much as you'd like. Rather have a helmet that too snug, than one that flops around on my head. Just my 2 cents.

Answer:
My head size falls right about where yours does, 22". I bought the medium and I am very happy with the fit. However, what really matters, is the shape of your head. Is your head shape round, oval, neutral? It doesn't matter what size you get, if the shape isn't equal, it won't be comfortable. I have an oval shaped head and this helmet fits great. If your not sure, you really should find somewhere to try one on if you can.

The RF-1100 looks like a nice step up from the Qwest, though I'm curious if it would work well riding a cruiser like a Yamaha V-Star when you're in a fully upright position.

Definitely. I had a Qwest and it was a good helmet, but I now ride with 2 RF1100s and just love them. They are a bit noisy, but they move so much more air than anything else I've ever used, that it's entirely worth it to me. RF1100 is my favorite helmet without a doubt.

the helmet was designed for more of a sport stance. i ride a bonneville but have lower bars on it and it feels pretty good, but when i lift my head up I can feel some lift on it and it is obvious that it was not designed for an upright position. i have a few friends with the qwest who thoroughly enjoy it.

Answer:
That was kinda of what I was going to ask, It says it has better airflow than the Qwest, but more for the sport bike position, but will it still provide better airflow than the Qwest in the upright position, or would the Qwest provide better airflow being it is designed more for the upright position. I am still torn between the two and will have an upright bike, but if this will still provide better circulation then this is the one I want over the Qwest.

Nope the RF1100 does not have the emergency release system. The rx-q has it though. But in any case that should not be the deal breaker in choosing the rf1100 as most medics don't even know that it exists

Answer:
The fitting shape is somewhat similar. The X-11 was labeled with having an "earth" like shape where it was widest around the ears. The RF-1100 is a neutral to slight round shape. The shapes are not identical but fall close in the shape spectrum for helmets.
