The Quest is replacing 2 RF 1000's in my fleet and I love it ! I ride a VStrom so the helmets upright useage design is perfect . The helmets fit is excellent and sizing is true with my RF's . I can tell a field of view improvement over my previous Shoei and Arai helmets . The shield is awesome on this lid also , action is much improved and it seals waaay better adding to the superb quietness ! While I don't think it flows more air than the RF its vents are definately easier to operate . Overall the Quest delivers on all accounts , now whats the best way to care for this flat black ?
Yes, I recommend this product.

I was using Shoei Raid during the last years. This new Qwest helmet is similar with usefull additions - it is more quiet and has wider visor. Additionally "the ventilation system" is better.

This is a very comfortable helmet. I am 65 and rounder than I used to be. Other helmets I tried were too tight and this one fits me very well. It is light and offers good ventilation. I took it on a 550 mile ride last weekend and my neck and shoulders felt fine Monday morning.

Looks okay, feels good. My head is 7 5/8" and I bought a Large. I have no windshield on my cruiser.
Pros: Very rigid construction. Light by my standards. When I close my chin vent and lock the visor my ride is very quiet, even at around 80mph. Head checks are still easy to do at highway speeds with no windshield. Seems to cool the top of my head very well at around 55mph with all vents open. I found a little baggy in the box with a breath deflector and chin curtain.
Cons: Air gets in under my chin at speeds over 60mph and lifts the helmet quite a bit (I just hunker down and tuck in my chin to avoid this discomfort). At about 80mph with no windshield my head begins to vibrate from wind buffeting. With the chin vent closed and visor locked the visor fogs up QUICKLY. Visor lift tab only on the left make it difficult to lift the visor at a stop light with my right hand to deal with fogging. No microfiber wipe included for the visor.
I find myself opening and closing my visor way too much to get rid of the fog. This is the most annoying thing for me to deal with when I ride.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Great vision up, down, left, right, Weight light enought to not bother my 3 fused neck vertibrae- important to me. Snug yet not restrictive fit. Lots of extra room around ears for earplugs or other stuff.
Only rode with the qwest 4 times, ~300 miles total, so my experimentation is not complete. Been riding with 3/4 helmet for past 5 years but need to get back to a fullface. These are my initial observations.
If below 60F,it will fog up no matter what combination is tried with the vents when the shield is closed. Many have mentioned the fog issue. Pinlock shield is in my near future.
I have a fully exposed W650 and a NT700 with large windshield. Air flow across my head/helmet on the w650 is straight on where the windshield on the NT700 causes some upward component of air flow as it passes over my head/helmet. With the Qwest shield closed and locked, the air flow around my face seem noticable better with straight on air flow on the fully exposed W650 at my typical commute speeds (45-60mph). Even with the fairing windshield lowered on the NT700 to the lowest point, helmet internal airflow still feels significantly lower on the NT700 at same speeds on the W650. I'm a little concerned if the helmet will become to stuffy and hot for me on the NT700 when temps get >70F.
Like I say, lots of experimentation left to try by changing earplugs, motorcycle windshield position, vents and shield position on the Qwest. Just have to work it out.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I researched helmets for quite a while before settling on the Qwest. I wanted a topline helmet but at a reasonable price. I also waanted a helmet that was well reviewed by SHARP (British testing) as well as the usual DOT and Snell. The Qwest was all that. Very comfortable and relatively quiet, Just wish that it came standard with the Pinlock lense.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Actually, the Quest is a large step up from the TZ. The Quest has new technology which makes it lighter, and it is designed more for an upright riding position rather than the forward position of a sports bike. The Quest is an all new (from Shoei) designed helmet to allow the touring and sports touring motorcyclist to get more air. The top vent, for example, is located higher on the helmet and gets more air from the upright seating position. It is a great helmet. I have had one since they were introduced and I love it.

IMHO, it depends on the shape of your head. I have a medium oval shaped head, which tends to feel better in a Shoei. I have the Shoei Quest, in Silver, and could not be happier with the fit. If you have more of a round shaped head, Arai seems to fit better. Please note that the Shoei Quest and the New Arai RX-Q are true touring helmets. The vents are higher on the head to be more efficient in an upright seating position. One last thing, the new RX-Q does seem to fit a more oval shaped head, a departure from the rest of the Arai line. The best thing for you to do, if you can, is try the helmets on and see for yourself. The Shoei is MUCH cheaper than the Arai!

It comes with a face shield (clear), but if you want to custom fit cheek pads you'll have to get them separate. It also comes with a chin curtain and a breath guard. I have the breath guard in but not the chin curtain at the moment as I think it seemed to fog more.

Yes. I just bought the Quest from RevZilla and it came with a face shield. Comes with a clear shield. Also comes with the breath guard & a stretch piece to cover between the bottom front edge of the helmet and your throat (for cold conditions) I didnt read all the details but the shield one that Shoei is proud of & includes with the RF 1100 So no worries that you will get a good shield

The pin lock is a system where you install and thin "liner" on your shield with the use of these little pin locks to help keep the shield from fogging. Can be tricky to make sure the liner seals properly but if you do your main field of vision should stay fog free.

A Pinlock system is one of the few solutions for anti-fog that really works. I use the Pinlock system on my Shoei Multitec and haven't had any problems in almost three years of use.
Basically you are creating a micro-climate with 0% humidity by sealing the inner Pinlock lens to the outer shield by means of two pressure fit pins and a bead of silicone. If the lens is installed in a clean, dry environment then no moisture will get in between the two layers and it will be near impossible to fog.
Keep in mind that there are two parts to the system - a Pinlock lens and the Pinlock shield. I've linked those products for you below as they relate to the Shoei Qwest
