Shoei Qwest Ascend Helmet

The Shoei Qwest Motorcycle Helmet was built with a focus on minimizing helmet weight, optimizing fit for comfort and protection and lowering noise levels to bring a new level of comfort to touring helmets. Featuring a slightly round oval internal shape, the Qwest helmet is manufactured with 4 individual shell sizes to keep the helmet as low-profile as possible. The smaller the helmet shell, the lighter the helmet weight. The Shoei Qwest Helmet also uses the Shoei's CW-1 visor technology with the Q.R.S.A system. This system guarantees a tight seal at the faceshield  by pulling the shield back to contact the opening seal evenly. The Qwest also touts an extra-wide viewport for additional peripheral vision so you can more easily take in the world around you.

Aerodynamic Shell Design:

  • Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel and feedback from professional riders
  • Dual-Layer EPS liner enhances impact absorption and ventilation
  • Four shell and six EPS liner sizes increase fit options that help to comfortably fit most head sizes
  • Molded air spoiler reduces drag and lift as well as diminishes weight pressure on the neck while riding at high speeds

Ventilation System:

  • Upper Air Intake Vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior
  • Large upper intake vent positioned to maximize performance in high wind conditions
  • Easy to operate large lower intake vent
  • Lower air intake/defroster vent reduces shield fogging and increases ventilation
  • Rear/neck outlets allow for effective air exhaust
  • Breath guard and chin curtain are included

Lightweight Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus (AIM+):

  • High performance fiber materials are combined with extremely elastic organic fibers to create a shell structure that is ultra lightweight, rigid and resilient

  • 3D center pad and multi-layered, polyurethane foam cheek pads
  • Cheek pads are replaceable or removable for maintenance
  • Eyeglass-compatible interior
  • Standard chin strap clip neatly secures chin strap

CW-1 Shield and Q.R.S.A. System:

  • Q.R.S.A. (Quick-Release Self-Adjusting) base plate allows for tool-less shield removal and installation
  • Spring-loaded base plate pulls the shield back to contact the window beading evenly and ensures a proper seal
  • Scratch-resistant coating
  • 99.9% protection from harmful UV A and B rays
  • Optional, CWF-1 two-dimensional Pinlock equipped racing shields with tear-off posts are available (sold separately)
  • Optional, CW-1 Pinlock prepared shields are available to accommodate Pinlock Fog Free Inserts (sold separately)
  • The CW-1, three-dimensionally curved shield is both wider and taller than the CX-1V it replaces
  • A pre-set lever can easily lock the shield in place to prevent the shield from opening unexpectedly, as well as prop the shield open to increase airflow

Additional Features:

  • Construction: AIM+ (Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus Multi Fiber)
  • Weight: 3.644 lbs / 1,653 grams (approx, for Size Medium)
  • Standards: Snell-M2010, DOT

good overall Very comfortable helmet, good field of vision and pretty light weight. Airflow seems good and doesn't fog too much. Only downside is a bit of whistling from the top vents at highway speed. September 19, 2014
Extremely Quiet and Light Weight Helmet I actually have an artsy fartsy version of this helmet, that Revzilla no longer carries. Just one with graphics on it. However, I rode to work today in cooler weather (finally), about mid-50's, and I loved how this helmet performed. Previously I have only worn it in the summer, with all the vents open and no chin curtain. The helmet was fairly noisy at interstate speeds. Don't get me wrong, still quiet for a motorcycle helmet, and still comfortable, but the wind noise was still quite substantial. Well today, I finally had an excuse to close up all vents, and stick the chin curtain on. This helmet became almost silent. I could hear the engine much more than I could hear any wind. It was a beautiful thing. So I'm adding this review in, simply to tell you all how quiet this helmet was today with everything closed up, and how comfortable it was. With a balaclava of some sort, you could comfortably ride in winter conditions with this helmet. The only improvement it needs is a pinlock insert, to prevent fogging. Then you can batten down the hatches on the entire helmet, and keep your face warm via your own breath without fogging the thing up. September 17, 2014
Quiet Helmet I was searching for a quiet helmet and narrowed my choices down to the Qwest, GT-Air and Schuberth. These final choices were made based on several online reviews that I was able to find. In the end, I went with the least expensive option since according to reviews and manufacturer data there is little difference between the three as far as decibel ratings. I have owned the helmet a few weeks and have logged several hundred miles. The Qwest is significantly quieter than my Suomy -- even when using silicone earplugs with the Suomy (albeit the Suomy is a track helmet). Helmet is breaking in and getting more comfortable after every ride. Also, no more ringing ears after a day long ride. Fit chart was accurate as well for the Qwest. Revzilla is my new go-to online motorcycle store. I ordered my helmet on a Tuesday and received it that Thursday via free shipping -- unheard of. September 15, 2014
Treat your head I had almost forgotten what a pleasure it can be to pull on a truly good helmet. The Shoei Qwest Passage doesn't disappoint. Great feel and fit, comfortable and quiet, and the peripheral view is noticeably bigger. It does fog a bit when stopped on cool mornings, an issue I've had with other Shoeis, and it could vent a tad better but that probably helps keep the noise level down. Still, the shield has ample detent positions and the light weight of this lid makes it almost feel like it's not there. Awesome appearance, too. It's an overall great value. September 15, 2014
Good but expected more This helmet fits good, looks good, and is light. This helmet is not as quiet as I expected. The fit is good but not as comfortable as the RF1000. Also looks rather large. I would not order again. I just expected more. September 8, 2014
A nice helmet despite a little bit of noise I like this helmet. It looks great and is very well made. I do experience a little bit of high-pitched noise if I'm not wearing my earplugs. September 8, 2014
Helmet seems very solid all around, fits well, quality construction. Planned to buy a less expensive helmet, but after trying on many makes and models, decided there was no comparison to Shoei quality. Was willing to pay more for a more solid feeling and comfortable helmet. September 8, 2014
Good helmet for the Average Rider I have been wearing this helmet for 2 months. Overall, this helmet is a good all-around helmet when it comes to being in the positions of upright, 3/4, and tucked. I made the mistake of not wearing the helmet to see if the fitting is correct for my noggin and settled for the large which is a size to big for my head. I tried the medium sized helmet at my local bike shop and was pleased with the fit and comfort of the helmet. I do however wish that the helmet came with a pin-lock visor instead of having to purchase one in addition. September 2, 2014
