Shark Race-R Pro Carbon Helmet
Second Shark Helmet
This is my second Shark helmet. I have grown to like and prefer Shark helmets over others, not because I had a bad experience with another brand, but because this was the first brand of helmet I owned and have been in a high speed accident and my head always felt safe. The helmet is light weight and SORT of quiet at lower speeds, at higher speeds it does tend to get a bit noisier and has a lot of wind noise. My head in it though felts likes its in a chamber of its own and safe at all times.

excellent race helmet
First off this helmet will pass tech with the AFM . I believe a guy had problems with getting through tech with WERA because the US models only have DOT marked on outside of the helmet. I had almost zero fogging in the morning at Buttonwillow and at the same time my eyeballs weren't getting blow dried. So the vent system on this helmet works very well. The fit is tight but comfortable . No excess movement. The magnet for the chin strap is useless so I just tucked it in . My only real complaint is the tab for the visor was a little hard to find and takes a bit of force to flip up . When rolling back into the pits I like to flip up the visor and about half the time I couldn't get it. I could pop the visor up once I stopped on the grid after the warm up lap . So it's not all bad . Overall this is the best helmet I have raced in so far . If it fits your head it's a very good choice.

Great for the 3/4 tuck or full tuck, quiet
I purchased the Race R Pro in black. Great helmet, very quiet on the freeway and even quieter in the full tuck position. Great air flow through out the helmet. Only thing I really wish Shark would work on is the chin strap, the magnet always pops off when I look over my shoulder to switch lanes, it flaps around quite a bit and its difficult to attach it again with gloves on. Shark needs to just add a button to keep the end of the strap put other than that the helmet is perfect.

Long Term Review
I have had this helmet for a while now with countless number of rides. I feel like I can give an honest feedback to the Shark Race-R Pro Helmet.
Looks: The helmet itself is beautiful, i get compliments on it constantly. The carbon fiber is top notch and the subtle lines with gloss black look great. Its light and pretty quiet for being a race helmet.
Air Flow: The front chin vent flows crazy amounts of air, and is adjustable for airflow. The top and forehead vents not so much. It has only reached about 85 here in texas and i already know its going to be a hot helmet come summer.
Visability: The visor on this thing is very thick and does not distort vision at all. If your in tuck, 3/4, or straight up i feel comfortable in all viewing positions. The visor itself doesn't have notches for staying open at different positions but all you have to do is tighten the visor locks and it stays at any position(A plus in my book)
Fit: to be honest i am a long oval head and the front does feel tight after long rides, not to mention the air holes in the liner will leave two mosquito looking bites on your forehead. The bamboo liner is very comfortable. Cheek pads are tight but after a couple of rides you get used to them and it actually feels safer to me to have them tight then loose.
Other pros: i have a SENA 10R and the battery pack fits in the shark bluetooth versions cutout in the helmet, as well as the speakers, was actually breezy to install. The chin curtain is great and the neckroll is reflective, lots of good little details. The visor change is so easy to do and actually works very well. Took me three times to master it, visor has to be cracked , just play with till you find the sweet spot. The locking of the visor down remains locked. When at high speeds this helmet is very stable in the 3/4 or tuck, big change from my previous scorpion helmet.
Cons: The magnetic lock on the chin strap for this helmet is a joke. Its constantly hanging off and flying around hitting the helmet in the wind. The thing comes loose with every head turn, bad QC by shark on that one. The mirrored visor is way too expensive. The visor opening tab. <-- let me explain this one because this is both a good and bad. When i first used to try and open my visor i couldn't get it to open for the life of me without taking off my glove and putting some effort into it. I eventually got it down to where i can open it with gloves but it honestly shouldn't be that difficult where you have to practice at opening your visor. the visor change mechanism requires some screw tightening every so often (mine was so lose that the screw and spring popped off, easy fix if you were able to find the spring) they do include the hex for it keep it close by.
The cons do not outweight the goods on this helmet. I honestly love it. I also know that if i do go down in this helmet, it will protect me and thats a big factor for me. Would i buy it again.. (fix the chin strap).. yes i would lol and I would recommend anyone looking at this helmet to pull the trigger.

Very good helmet
This helmet is very good. Very light and the air moves around the shell very well even at speeds over 100mph. With the chin vent open at speeds over 70 it is very loud and you have to close the vent or slow down.
The little black rubber piece around the bottom of the chin came off and had to be super glued within two months of riding. The helmet feels best in at least a 3/4 tuck. you can run headphones in the helmet as well without any discomfort. The air is pulled out of the helmet at the top very well and is cool.
I was between the L and XL and should have went with the XL because the large is small but still fits nice. Leaves the cheek pad marks on my face after only 45 min or so.
The carbon fiber matches my black '11 GSXR 750 very nicely. Even though the carbon fiber did have some marks and white streaks in it, it looks nice

Great helmet but watch your ears
I got the Race R Pro Carbon Race helmet and love the build quality of it. Everything is well made.
The size is right for my head but is a bit tight around the cheeks. (Bought some smaller cheek pads to see if it fit better) I know this is a race fit helmet but to put in on and off, the narrow opening scrapes my ears every time. I'm hoping that the material or foam will break in?
Once the helmet is on, it is comfortable. The noise is slightly quieter than my Shoei Qwest. I thought the weight might be lighter but I think it is about the same.

Best Value for Money
The extremely high quality of the Shark Race R Pro Carbon Skin is eminent, from the moment this helmet is in your hands.
It has the finest finishes.
It does everything you'd expect from a Top Class Moto GP level helmet, and the price is what really helped me to make my decision to buy this helmet.
It goes on your head like a glove, it's extremely comfortable, and once you ensure it's positioned on your head properly your vision is clear and wide.
If you keep your head still and look furthest left and right, you have optimal vision with no obstruction. If you look forward and vividly observe your peripheral vision, you'l notice there is still no obstruction at all.
This allows you to notice things beside you easily.
Ventilation is phenomenal when you get all vents opened up on a hot day.
The visor in particular was a huge selling point for me, it's the thickest in the market as far as race helmets go and comes with all the bells and whistles as far as the tech side of things go.
I'm an oval shaped head, I'm from Cape Town South Africa and this fits excellently for me.
In person this helmet is absolutely stunning.
The only trouble I've had with it, is taking it off.
It's not a terrible experience, it's a rather tight ejection off from your head.
But all of that makes pretty good common sense when you start thinking about what this helmet was made for, +300 KM/hour...
Easy on, superbly light and comfortable, you will quite literally forget this helmet on your head when you're focused.
I feel that this was the best decision I made so far, against everything else that is available.
When it's time to look at purchasing another helmet or I have more money to blow, I'll certainly purchase another one of these.
Common sense alone, has dictated me buying two of these over a full carbon AGV PISTA.
This helmet is like a dream that has come true.
I hope my review helps the oval head shape community of the world.
Ride Smart everyone!
