great helmet I have had this helmet for years and I love it. I originally bought it because I had a DRZ400sm and it did awesome with that bike but now I have a victory cross country and this helmet is way more comfortable and more stable in my opinion than the scorpion helmet I just currently bought. It currently is my go to helmet and very comfortable. It is on the loud side and when the weather gets cold it can get chilli with this helmet but overall I am very happy with this helmet. The one thing I would like to see from Icon is to get Snell testing done, I just feel for the price you pay for their products they should be willing to get a Snell rating for their customers. Great style This helmet is a sexy beast, yet it has its flaws. The fit is amazing for an intermediate oval head shape. Very comfortable fit on the inside. It is a little on the heavy side though. Air flow is the best I've ever seen, does a great job keeping your head cool on hot rides. The down side to that is the noise level. By far the loudest helmet I've ever worn. I installed a Sena smh 10r for music and phone calls, any speed above 50 and it is extremely difficult to hear. The sun visor is a bit of a chore to get use to. I have a 2 hour daily commute and it gets to be a strain on the neck at times. Looking dead ahead is not that big of a deal but when you turn your head you get a bit of a whip once the wind catches it. The construction is a bit of an issue. The gaskets around the visor and bottom of the helmet came off within a few weeks of use. It may have just been the helmet I got, but its quite an issue for the amount of money spent. On the bright side, Icon is a pleasure to deal with when it comes to exchanges on the warrantee, no sweat return and quick shipment for the replacement. Over all it is a solid helmet. Decent price and a sexy beast. July 28, 2015
Great Helmet!! This helmet is sick, has good ventilation, was able to stay cool in 90+ degree weather. May get a little cold during early spring and late fall but haven't tried it in under 60 degree weather yet. The wind resistance took a little getting used to at highway speeds but I don't really notice it anymore. It's a great looking helmet and is really comfortable on the inside. The only real downside to the helmet is the price point but I had my mind set on it so I had to get it! July 27, 2015
Loved it at first Loved the helmet at first even though it arrived with a minuscule scratch on the shield and the top left vent doesn't close despite application of a small amount of silicon lube. I've had a chance to put about 500 miles on using it on both my 2013 GoldWing and 2015 CRF250l. Now either the shield or visor rattles so loudly it's distracting me from enjoying my ride. If I can't figure out how to get it to stop rattling it's a deal breaker and will be going back to ICON. Too bad because of all my 20 or so helmets I liked this one best at first J August 24, 2015
Great helmet! I purchased the Battlescar helmet while on closeout, and I'm very happy I did. The day I got it, I took it right out and did a 150 mile ride through the mountains to really see what I got into. Pros: Awesome design! I was getting compliments from someone every time I stopped for gas about the helmet. It's really a unique look! It's also light and very comfortable. I rode for about 6 straight hours with no problem. Other helmets I own will start to hurt after a couple hours, but this Icon was comfortable all day. Next, visibility is great! Much better than a standard street helmet, and finally the airflow is just fantastic, and probably the best thing about it! I rode on a very hot/humid day, and while cruising with all the vents/slots open, it honestly feels like sticking your face out a car window. There is so much airflow into, and out of the helmet that when moving I didn't sweat at all. You can easily control how much air you want into/out of the helmet as well because Icon made the vents big enough that you can operate them easily with gloves on. Cons: The helmet is a little loud, but not more than my other full face HJC or Scorpions. The visor does cause lift when turning your head. I will hand it to Icon, when facing into the wind, there is almost no lift at all, and I can even look up without discomfort, but once you turn your head you can definitely feel the visor act like a sail as it pulls with the wind. I noticed that after doing over the shoulder checks for traffic, I'd have to slightly readjust the helmet by pulling it back down. It's not terrible, but definitely a bit of a nuisance. Finally the visor is not quick change, so you basically need to chose what you're going to wear for the day. For me, I generally ride day only, so the smoke visor is a permanent fixture for me, but for those who commute and need a clear lens for early mornings or evenings, making the switch requires a tool (Included in the box) and a few minutes of your time. Overall I'd definitely recommend this helmet to a friend. It's light, comfortable, great airflow and looks great. I ride a motard so I think this helmet is a perfect accessory for it! August 18, 2015
Air flow, Comfort and it just looks good. I bought this one for the high air flow, living in Las Vegas and commuting daily in 100+ heat I find this helmet is one of the better ones at circulating air. I am not disappointed in this helmet in any way August 17, 2015
Visor lift? No problem here I've had about a dozen various helmets and this one is my favorite, hands-down. So, there's really no aero-effect from the visor at really any legal speeds (75 and below) for me on my R1, and around the century mark and a little over, it's still ok, no neck injuries :-). Keep in mind this greatly depends on your bike (windscreen?) and your riding position, but I can't understand guys saying its a problem. Touching high speeds for a few seconds is one thing, but If you're sustaining speeds of around 100 or more, you need to be on a track and you need a track helmet with no visor... Airflow...just fantastic. I'm bald and I still get hot with pretty much every helmet out there, until I got this one. It really flows air like crazy in the face/forehead/chin area, so much so that I actually close vents around 65 degrees or cooler. In 90 degree/90% humidity weather, you're getting 90 degree/90% air flowing through, so it's still hot and no helmet is going to "air condition" its own ventilation. I wear size L in everything I've had, and there was no surprise here when I bought mine. There's no quick-release for the visor, and yeah, that kinda sucks but I'm ok with it. Just don't sneeze, and keep your nose clean if you do, and you can just wipe down the outside of it still attached. This isn't really a dirt-bike/off-road helmet, but that never stops some from using it as such. I can't speak to that. You should definitely buy one. August 15, 2015
Great helmet with a few flaws I love the design of the helmet, for me the visor on the dual sport design helps when riding into the sun. The airflow is superb on this helmet, not overly noisy but I do wear ear plugs. Came with dark and clear shield plus a chin skirt. I went with the Icon due to it being more of a true street helmet as I am not going to be using goggles with it. My only real complaint with this helmet is changing the shield. More than likely most people who purchase this helmet might not have to change the shield twice a day like I do during my commute. But Icon really came up short with not having a quick release system for this helmet. My Airframe I replaced this one with could be changed with my eyes shut or in the dark. This is the fist helmet that I have had that uses screws to retain the shield in over 8 years. But overall I like the helmet. August 15, 2015

Alexander L: The reason I got this item is because I was looking for something with a newer style. May 13, 2014
Jonathon G: Lets be honest, first off the helmet looks sweet. Has a great field of vision, never have any problems head checking. The helmet does flow pretty good with the venting system. The only down side to this helmet is the visor at high speeds(100+), and on really windy days when you head check the visor catches the wind and pulls your head a bit, but for regular riding at highway and city speeds the helmet does great. I got the all white version, and looks awesome, but get dirty easily with bugs. Apr 22, 2014

Anthony M: I just weighed mine at 1875 grams, but that includes my Scala headphones and and intercom base piece, so it will be a little bit lighter than that. Mar 7, 2014
Reply to Anthony Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Jared M: I literally just sold mine to a guy in Norway otherwise I would weigh it on my home scale for you right now.

I will say is incredibly light. To compare it to a common home object it is about as heavy as 2 fullsize pumped basketballs. (Im holding one in my hand now). Much of the cost of this helmet goes into safety, weight reduction and aerodynamic functionality.

I have been 190+ with mine. Very good visibility.great craftmanship and precision has went into every detail.

I will miss this helmet. And my old cbr 1000.

Hope this helps!

A shopper asked: How well does the icon variant accept bluetooth communication devices and speakers? Sep 7, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The Variant is not a helmet that would easily accept a Bluetooth system. There are no cut outs in the ears to hold the speakers, and the space between the helmet shell and the EPS is limited and does not leave much room for any kind of clamp to slide in. Some Bluetooth systems come with the ability to use an adhesive mount, which would allow you to mount the system to the side of the helmet shell. However, the user would still have to find a place for the speakers and they would likely be touching your ears regardless of their position. Sep 11, 2012

Rick C: Well I have had my Icon Variant (Rubatone and Gold Shield for over a year now, ordered from here at Revzilla, and the Sena SMH10 fits perfectly. And I use the clamp.

The Helmet and Sena's work so well, this summer my son got the Icon Variant (Black Etched, Smoked Visor), and Sena SMH10 attached.

I can also report that just this afternoon at work, a fellow who rides a black and gold speed triple was in my office checking out my Variant and will be ordering the identical setup to mine, Rubatone, Gold Shield, SMH10s.

Jason B: An update to my own question.. I've had my etched variant for a year now and have been using the Uclear HBC100 bluetooth headset. It fits just fine and was very easy to install due to the boomless mic technology. Sounds pretty good and the battery life is excellent! Sep 28, 2013

PAULO M: Jason, how did you install the speakers? Could you please attach some pics? Thanks Oct 15, 2013
Kody W: I had a Cardo Scala Rider G9 set up on mine using the clamp that slid between the liner and the shell. Ran the wires under the liner and placed the speakers in opening of the padding around the ear. Had to do some adjusting to keep it from it pressing on my ears but other than that it worked well, especially with the boom type microphone. I also stuck a small microphone in one of the openings on the inside of the breath box and ran it under the lining to hook up to my GoPro, the sound came out easy to understand. Can't provide any photos as threw away the helmet after a 50MPH crash with a deer last June. I wrote up a review after that. Mar 13, 2015

Bryson W: I just installed the SMH10-R and it fits in the Variant perfect! Because you can remove the "gutts", it makes it really easy to position and attach the speaker and hide all the wires. In fact, the piece of "loose" material across the ear cut out actually covers the hard plastic speakers perfectly. A friend has the Aria and had to mount the speakers against the material so he has the hard plastic speaker right against his ear.
And of course the low-pro design of the receiver looks really nice on the exterior as well.

Cheers

Sutto: It works very well with the SENA SMH-10 bluetooth unit. The clamp mount works perfectly and allows for good mic placement. It's a bit of a tight fit with the speakers..I have to use my finger to adjust my ears after I put the helmet on or they get pinched by the speakers. Overall I'm happy with how it works together. Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Craig B: It is more of a medium oval size and a bit tight right out of the box, but this helmet has the best for outside and full span visuals when riding. I have more people tend to not pull out in front of me because its an unusual looking helmet with the silver and gold shield. I own the Rubatone Black and White Carbon Cyclic. I would recommend them if you can find a size that fits. Apr 5, 2014

Josh B: I do not believe so. You can purchase different size of pads to find the correct fitment but the shell is the same. For example I purchased a medium last year, all I would have to do to make it a small would be to buy the proper inside pads. Oct 20, 2013

A shopper asked: there is a gold visor for this helmet.. can you get that..? Apr 23, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jason B: I am currently using the Gold shield for my red-etched variant. It looks awesome! The only complaint is that the gold shield seems to flex more while opening and closing. It is not as rigid as the stock clear shield and does not seal as well around the bottom of the helmet. This might be due to using a thinner material or its possible that I might have an ealier production run. When it's time for me to replace it I hope the next one fits a little better. Sep 28, 2013

Michaelsantos91: Yes you can. I actually own some gold lens for this helmet. It is great if you dont want to be seen completely. The tint lens under bright conditions allows your face to be seen. All tinted/mirrored lens are not intended for night use, but from my personal experience its fine. I see pretty well at night with these lens. Nov 28, 2012

Josh3: Yes, there is a gold visor. I actually have it installed on mine and love it. As someone posted earlier, the gold visor does reflect your own face back at you in some light conditions. I don't find that this is distracting and the visor looks great on the helmet. Jul 11, 2012

A shopper asked: Wearing glasses with this helmet. Is it hard to get the glasses on? Will it be uncomfortable? I'm currently wearing a hjc cl-16 in a XL and with glasses it fits perfectly and feels comfortable. May 10, 2014

Henrik G: I've worn both sun glasses and prescriptions with this helmet and don't have any complains. I wouldn't say it's a perfect fit like it has been with another helmet I have, but it's by no mean uncomfortable. The cool thing with this helmet is that everything is off your face more than a racing helmet May 11, 2014

James C: I wear an ESS Crossbow protective sun glasses in this all the time. The frame is thick plastic, contours to my upper cheeks and forehead, but the glasses fit fine in my helmet. If you're wearing corrective lenses, I don't see why they won't fit while you're wearing the helmet. May 22, 2014

JASON F: I myself have purchased the xl size and found that the inner helmet liners play a great role in the fit of this helmet. In my initial wearing, l found the cheek regions a bit tight. But as time went on, the liner contoured to my head and now it fits perfectly.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The face shield can be lifted while riding via the tab on the left hand side of the face shield. If you zoom in you can see the tab we are referring to. Or are you referring to the visor? That can definitely not be lifted/moved while riding. Sep 7, 2012

DancingDolphinsCindy: The visor lifts, there is a small tab that fits over a metal knob to lift. It can be difficult to get the first time, but it is just the plastic visor that lifts and not the chin guard. Sep 14, 2012

A shopper asked: In particular I'm wondering about the sizing in comparison to HJC (on/off road helmets). They are the only brand I've ever owned before, but it's time to move on. According to HJC's sizing, I should be a SM according to their size chart (just under 22cm head), but I ended up getting a XS because of the loose fit I felt with the SM helmet on. So, I'm wondering what difference in helmet shape makes in sizes. Oct 5, 2011

A shopper asked: I ride an FJR 1300 with a tall windscreen and get alot of wind noise and buffeting with my HJC Symax 2 and need a quieter helmet Jun 11, 2012

Longhauler: I wear custom ear plugs so every helmet is quite for me! But one feature with this helmet is that if I push my jaw forward it opens a airway under my ears! Right now in Texas it 101 and I just love this unintended feature along with the air flow is excellent over all. But to answer your question about the other helmets I can only say that it is just a quite as my Aria XD 3. Jun 24, 2012

If I bought the Variant matte black helmet would your store be able to paint it the color id like or give me detailed instructions to do it myself? Aug 1, 2011

A shopper asked: Anyone have any issues with the rubatone finish? It looks great! Just worried about peeling or something after multiple cleanings and the hot Florida sun. Jun 19, 2015

Dustin R: I've had multiple spills in the woods and used the helmet almost every day for the last two years. The finish is marred from rockes and stuff, but there's no peeling whatsoever. As far as I can tell, the finish is either very high quality, or there's no finish and that's the plastic.

Also, from falling in the woods, the visor doesn't snap easily. I've dropped the helmet onto the sun visor and it just bounces.

A shopper asked: Can you wear goggles with this? Feb 27, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: While you could potentially remove the shield and wear goggles with this helmet, this helmet is technically not built for that purpose. It is meant to be worn with the shield, on the road, in an aggressive riding scenario. Feb 28, 2013

A shopper asked: I've been searching this helmet and can't seem to find a place where they sell them, what happened to this version? was it a limited edition? Feb 22, 2012

RevZilla: The Icon Variant Speedmetal was a new graphic first introduced with the Icon Alliance helmet. The Icon Variant Speedmetal was a closeout item and is no longer available for purchase as it will not be re-stocking inventory for that product. May 2, 2012

A shopper asked: is there any of these helmets in stock? Apr 20, 2011
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Chris K: You can see our current inventory at any time by selecting the size and color you are interested in from the product detail page. Once you have selected your options, the website will tell you whether that item is available, or out of stock.

Any helmets purchased from RevZilla (or any other US dealer) will not have an Australian certification sticker. If you need this sticker, than you would need to purchase from an Australian dealer.
