Icon Variant Ghost Helmet

Stepping up and out of the Variant lineup, the Icon Variant Ghost Carbon Helmet takes everything that makes the Variant a top dual-sport helmet and adds a super light and strong hand-laid carbon fiber shell, translucent supervents and a yellow Icon Optics face shield.

Comfort, vision, protection. A wind tunnel refined shape, executed in a Carbon Fiber/Kevlar/Spectra shell construction matrix, along with an dual-density EPS core provide critical impact energy management. Extensive venting and a removable HydraDry wicking liner provide increased comfort by reducing rider fatigue. The anti-lift visor directs and channels airflow as it reduces the glare from an unyielding UV assault, while the extended eyeport and zero distortion optics provide an unrivaled field of view. If the streets are your area of operation - equip yourself for the fight with the Icon Variant.

Features:

  • Carbon Fiber/Kevlar/Spectra shell construction
  • Long oval headform
  • Multiple oversized intake and exhaust ports
  • Molded EPS nose reduces shield fogging
  • Wind tunnel tested and refined
  • Optically correct anti-fog, quick-change face shield
  • Removable and washable HydraDry moisture wicking liner
  • Rear spoiler for reduced helmet buffeting
  • Removable chin curtain
  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (EUROPE), SAI AS1698 (Australia) and SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased from an authorized dealer in that country

Note: Ships with yellow face shield only.

Mil-Spec and Sexy
As my wardrobe is utterly filled with Revzilla products, I am on a mission today to be helpful and provide an up-to-date review of as many products as possible. As such, this review will be current (as of late January 2014), quick and to the point.

First off, I am a street/custom rider, so the brand's approach is dead-on for me. Might not be for racers and what have you, but to each their own.

I wear a "Medium" in practically everything ICON, including this product.

The "Ghost Carbon Helmet" is unreal - in the best possible way. Pictures don't do it justice. I'm coming from an Arai Corsair V, and LOVE this thing. The fit is what it should be, but still manages to seem "roomy." The field of view is wide, which I love. The yellow visor was different for me, but works really well on the road. I needn't say anything about the styling, cause it speaks for itself. SEXY, Spec-Ops style. Can't speak to the protection, hope I never have to. Seems very solid though. Very satisfied. 5 out of 5 stars for these reasons.

Some people feel ICON is a "bargain-brand" of some sort, but I disagree entirely. My closet is filled with their stuff, and I wouldn't spend my hard-earned money on garbage - repeatedly. Their quality has vastly improved, and the ICON 1000 line is a true winner.

Ride safely.

Great Helmet
Very pleased with the Icon Variant Ghost Carbon. I followed the size chart and got a size large however the fit is slightly too big so I ordered the Medium Cheek pads/liner. The S/M/L share the same shell FYI. The field of view and air flow are fantastic. The weight feels good and is lighter that most other helmets I have tired. The look of the helmet is awesome and paired with the Gold RTS shield looks even better.

My only complaint is changing the face shield. You have to use a screwdriver, or small tool that is included, to remove 2 screws and the slide the shield out from under the visor. Be Very Careful! I pulled the visor out too far and caused a small hairline crack where the visor peaks meet. It does not effect anything and it is still solid however it was annoying. It was mostly my fault but I think it is definitely a weak point in the design.

What a great helmet - Master Chief
If you want to look like the Master Chief from Halo this helmet is for you. When you are not slaying the Covenant with your big blaster gun thingy; this bucket doubles as a perfectly good motorcycle helmet. Pretty darn quiet for a helmet with a peak and the hydra dry lining is some kind of sweat wicking witchcraft.

Awesome helmet. Highly recommended.

awesome helmet!
I just got this helmet in today, and it was definitely worth it! I was on the fence at first about spending the extra money on this helmet, but I'm glad I did.

I've read a few different things about the drag from the visor and it got me a bit worried, but it feels fine, even at higher speeds(over 120mph). The airflow feels amazing and keeps you cool. The yellow visor is nice and it does enhance your surroundings, but I switched to a mirrored visor for aesthetics, and it took it to a whole new level of badass!

Pros: looks AWESOME!! Good fitment, wide view, lightweight, great airflow

Cons: none

On a side note, the symbol on the back doesn't mean "ghost" it means "shadow" which still ties in with the helmet.

Amazing helmet
Got this helmet for christmas with the intent of riding it for Snowmobiling AND riding when riding season came around.
Along with the helmet I got the gold mirror lens (which looks absolutely amazing) and the breath box to help with fog in cold weather. My buddy got the battlescar with a dark smoke lens and wishes he would've spent the extra money and just gone with the Ghost CarbonXD

In the cold it works ok, The helmet does quite well for a while and never does fog but condensation builds on the inside of the lens after about 30 minutes. If you crack the lens it creates enough ventilation to stop it. The vents work fine, If your head gets too hot you can always open up a couple of vents and when they're all closed your head stays toasty.

Haven't got a chance to ride with it in the summer but so far this springs its worked great. Its very light and the visor doesn't create any extra drag like you might expect. At freeway speeds when turning your head to check your blindspot you do feel the wind but that can be expected to some degree with all helmets.

Overall I absolutely love the look and feel of the helmet and am very happy with the purchase.

Great helmet but the wind is noticeable around 75mph. Other than that, it's an all around good helmet. Looks great, light weight, good venting, very comfortable.

Totally impressed by the helmet
The helmet has totally impressed me. It has really aggressive styling. I was expecting the helmet to be a little noisy and it's quite the opposite. The wind does grab the visor a little at highway speeds when you look around. But it's not obnoxious. It's very stable. I love the rubitone finish. The yellow visor takes some getting use too. It's nice not having to worry about changing visors for at night. Lots of ventilation. I got a size small and had to order a set of medium check pads.

Kickass helmet! Looks awesome and fits great on my giant head! The yellow lens make low-light conditions make everything pop. I am very happy with it!!!

Looks, fit and design. Great helmet. Have logged more than 12,000 miles in it. Very comfortable. Wish it had an internal sun shade. That's the only thing keeping this from being the PERFECT helmet.

I *Love* the look of this helmet. Ever since I first saw one I knew I had to get it. After spending the better part of a year with this helmet, I'd buy another one without a second thought. I ride a Suzuki Gladius, (Naked Sportbike) and I have no major problems with drag. Not to mention I've never seen another one of these on the road. Great Helmet, Great Style, All the Compliments.

Well, this was going to be my new main helmet and my Icon Variant Construct the backup for NEXT year, but the Construct failed before reaching even a year old. Hopefully the screws on this one don't strip so easily otherwise can't condone buying a Icon Helmet again.

How is this helmet in the rain? I'm an all-weather rider on a GS Adventure and looking for something aggressive like this, but want to keep the rain out. Leaking shields and soaked cheek pads tend to put a damper on things. (no pun intended)

Can anyone report on the peak's effectiveness as a sun shade? Is the angle of the peak adjustable?
A shopper on Dec 12, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The peak works well as a sunshade as long as the sun is at a high angle. I would estimate the effective angle of the shade as about 50º-60º. That is, it will work as long as the sun is 50º-60º above the horizon. The peak is a translucent grey and let's some light through but no direct hot spots and nothing that causes any distracting glare.

As an aside, I purchase the gold mirror shade which cuts out a enough sunlight during bright days. But when the sun is low and direct direct I had to augment the shade with sunglasses.
I am looking for a bag for this helmet. Does anybody have a bag, used a bag, or can recommend one? I don't want to take the sun visor off :)
SokSa on Feb 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It comes with one. Just get a helmet bag for a dirt bike helmet. It should fit.

BEST ANSWER: I bought the helmet and weighed it. It's 3.2 lbs.
is the visor removable? for example, the Arai Dual-Sport. and if so how much of it?
