Mark S: What I loved most was the styling. After looking at all the sport bike helmet this for me was the best. Then the color scheme (RED) was fantastic, just enough red not to drown the design. A shopper asked:Thinking about buying this helmet. I need a little information on the fit. I'm a woman with a head size is 55 cm/21.5 inches. I'd say my head is longer than it is wide. I recently had bought a Shark Vision helmet but had to return it because the chin guard was only a fingers width from my chin/lip. How is the sizing on this helmet? What size do you guys think I should go with? Any help would be absolutely wonderful!!Mar 31, 2014
Emily H:I tried on a friends Airframe and based my decision off of the fit of hers as well as wearing a different size of a different brand all together. I wore a friends medium and tried on my friends XS and that's how i based my decision to get a small. I think that the two should fit very very similarly and you should have no problem. :)Aug 27, 2013
Juan I:I have found that the Salient is very tight around the cheek area at first. It's a bit snug to put on but after a few times the pads start to mold and soften up a bit. If your unsure of your size, just go with Revzilla's chart. I have found it to be spot on when it comes to finding what size to go with. Aug 19, 2013
Vietsana S:The fitment should be the same if you have tried on at a local shop. Unless you are going with a totally difference brand/make and model. Because S/M/L/XL comes different in fitting. And remember there is a break in time frame depending on how often you wear it. Aug 19, 2013
Patricia S:My experience was using the size chart, which it will be a tight fit to put on. I believe the snug fit helps with the noise quality. If you were closer to the higher end of the size, you may need to determine whether you need the next size up?Aug 19, 2013
Casey S:Yes they should fit similar...however going from a airmada helmet to let's say a airframe they may not fit the same because of the different shell sizes they use. Airmada helmets do fit to the sizes on the chart...enjoy I sure am with mine! Aug 20, 2013
CHRISTOPER S:They should or you can get the size you think will fit and exchange it if it doesn't.. If you measure your head they run true to size. I love mine its light flows a lot of air.Aug 19, 2013
Chris M:Sure does! Absolutely love mine. I used the Sena Bluetooth and it worked GREAT! Definitely a great helmet. It's a third the price of my Shoei RF1100 but better in EVERY way. One thing to consider though, you definitely want to order a size bigger than you're probably used to. I wear a small in the Shoei, but this is snug in a medium (or I could just have a weird shaped head) Apr 9, 2014
GREGORY D:Yes. I wear two different types. Plastic Ray-Bans which have thicker construction and metal ones which fit even better. I ware my helmet tight and its fine. By the way the Icon Salient is a better helmet than my Arai or Shoei. Better construction and so much quieter. Best Greg de Marchi.Sep 23, 2013
Brad B:I know it's not sunglasses friendly, since it is very snug fitting and there isn't a slot for glasses in the side padding. It would have to depend on how small and flexible your glasses are.Sep 22, 2013
Alec M:Don't know the weight. Wasn't a factor for me. However, I no longer use this helmet since I commute and the helmet is a really snug fit. Getting the helmet on and off becomes an annoyance if you commute a lot. Once on, the helmet fits fine but the opening is much smaller and it's a tight squeeze to get it on and off. It's a slick-looking helmet though but it's not very practical for everyday commuting IMO.Mar 18, 2014
Jonathon F asked:My question is not about sizing, since I'm sure I will be a medium according to the size chart. My question is in regards to the shell size itself. Would it be considered a bobble head size like the Bell helmets, being large and chunky and possibly interfering with your gear (such as a speed hump)?? Or is it on the more compact and sleek end of the spectrum like the Arai helmets? Thanks in advance!Feb 19, 2014
Chris M:Definitely NOT a "bobble head" helmet. In fact, quite a bit more narrow than my Sheoi that cost 3 times more! Actually, in my opinion, superior to the Shoei in pretty much every way. I will tell you though, in my Sheoi and other helmets before that I wore a size small. In the Icon I wear a medium. The opening in this helmet is much smaller than the other helmets which helps keep the wind noise down quite a bit. The interior of this helmet in a medium fits like my size small Sheoi. Seems to be the most fog free helmet that I've had so far. Has vents all over it. For the bang for buck, I definitely won't feel the need to buy another $600 helmet again! Get it, you'll like it Feb 19, 2014
Santo O:Its more like an Arai helmet. I am a mdeium in all other helmets and i bought this in medium and wouldn't fit had to exchange it for a large and that was very tight at first i hope this helps. Feb 19, 2014
Casey S:Defiantly on the more sleek compact side as far as helmets go. I've had this helmet for a year now and love it. No bobble head feeling like bell like you mentioned. I will let you know that they are a snug fit getting on until they get broken in but it becomes a non issue. You will be happy with this helmet, I was.Feb 20, 2014
A shopper asked:Looking at the size chart, I see some discrepancies. If I use hat size, I should get an XXL. If I use head circumference, I should get a L... I'm assuming I have a pretty long oval head. I can't find any stores close to me that stock this thing to try it on... which one should I try first?Oct 14, 2013
Alec M:The Salient is a much different fit. I had the Alliance previously (medium: based on head circumference) so I got the Salient in medium.
Tradeoffs: Salient, as advertised, has less mass (shell size) and is a cool-looking helmet. Good peripheral visibility as well. However, it is a snug fit and getting it on and off takes a lot more effort. The shell opening at the bottom is much smaller. On short rides, the fit seemed right but as I found out later on longer rides, the pressure from the snug fit made my head hurt. This didn't happen with the Alliance (same size).
I think the head circumference measurement is most reliable. I measured out on the high end of the medium scale range. If you measure out similarly high on the large scale range, perhaps an XL will be more comfortable. If your measurement is on the low end of the large scale range, then a large may work for you. IMO, the Salient is a medium-oval fit so if it's too snug and you have a long oval head like I do, you may feel the effects of the pressure on longer rides. Your ears will also take some punishment when you take off the helmet.
Another option, if you can afford it, is to consider Arai's Signet-Q which claims to be a true long-oval shape. I got the medium and the fit and comfort level is much better for my head shape. Obvious tradeoff: a couple hundred bucks.Oct 14, 2013
Matthew K:I went by hat size. I wear a 7 1/2.and I bought a large. Fits perfectly. This helmet definitely fits long oval. Tough on and off but that's the style. I love this helmet. Vents awesome and is fairly quiet. Oct 14, 2013
I just bought an Icon Airmada Salient Size Medium. I chose that size because I also have an Icon Alliance M size so I'd thought it would fit about the same.
The helmet feels pretty comfortable once my head is in but while I'm trying to put it on or when i take it off, man its tight!!!!! I know the helmet is new and not broken in but it's nowhere as easy to put on and take off as the Alliance.
Should I order a size large or go with a different helmet, maybe the Variant Construct or Airframe Construct?
Alec M:Yes, getting the helmet on and off is a challenge. That's the main tradeoff of this "minimalist" helmet. I had an Alliance previously and gave the Salient a shot because of its scaled-down design. However, over time, I began to dread getting the helmet on and off. I also noticed that on longer rides, the pressure from the snug fit would make my head ache. I also wear sunglasses when I ride and the snug fit made it harder to insert the stems over my ears. It's a slick-looking helmet but it wasn't the right fit for my head.
As a commuter, I needed something more comfortable and practical so the Salient was replaced with a discounted Arai Signet-Q - perfect for my long oval-shaped head.
Sorry, I can't comment on the Variant or Airframe Construct.Oct 30, 2014
Andre W:I've had a Salient for little over a year now. Once broken in, it definitely becomes easier to put on. Taking it off, however, is a different story - still tight! Not as tight brand new, but still tight none the less. If it bothers you that much, just go with a different helmet, but I definitely wouldn't change sizes. I bought a cheap Speed and Strength helmet as a spare, but the thing came off as easy as a baseball cap! Returned it asap! I'd rather stick with the helmet that's tough to take off, cause you'll know it'll stay on should you go down. Hope this helpsOct 29, 2014
Casey S:No the salient does not come with a chin curtain nor does it fit like the alliance helmet...the salient helmet is defiantly a smaller helmet outer shell wise and does not have as much room from your face to the breath guard. Hope this helpsMay 22, 2014
A shopper asked:Does the ICON Salient helmet come with a chin curtain?
And what is the fit like?
I have previously owned a ICON Alliance Tyranny helmet that fit XXL which fit perfectly, and it came with a chin curtain (unfortunately I sold it with my old bike), and currently own a BELL APEX XL which also fits perfectly, but is sans curtain (Unfortunately I received this with my new bike. Kidding, the helmet isn't that bad.). So basically I want to know if this helmet will fit like the Alliance?
Patricia S:I do not have a chin curtain for my Icon helmet, but I do believe you can get one for the Airmada Salient. This helmet is much more sound resistance than my old Bell Helmet , although when shield is locked in place it can be difficult to unhook.May 29, 2014
Matt S:This helmet comes with a clear face shield only. I purchased the very dark one when I bought the helmet with extra shield end covers, and it works awesome on sunny days but too dark for night. I have recently purchased the Chrome mirror face shield and love it, perfect for when I ride to the gym after work and sun is going down and can see well enough when It is dark as I am riding home. Plus looks badass! Little kid made my day yesterday complimenting the helmet. Hope this helps your decision. -MattApr 11, 2014
