Beautiful jacket...could use reflectors I love the styling on this jacket, nice mix of leather and fabric. I also like that the logos are low key; people focus more on the jacket than the brand. It does bunch a little in the front when riding but not so much as to be uncomfortable. The one thing I think is missing is reflective materials, ICON could/should do better by adding reflective piping and stitching. August 8, 2015
Previous reviews are spot on! I received this jacket last week and feel that the previous reviews were very accurate and helpful in my purchase decision. In particular: - the jacket looks great! Really sharp. - the exterior fabric is high quality but pretty stiff. - the leather arms are also high quality and are soft and a nice flat color (not shiny). - the interior liner is lower quality than the exterior (some loose threads, etc.). I will need to be careful removing/cleaning the liner. - the arms are a little tight around the forearm. - the armor is nice to have and isn't too noticeable. - the fit follows the sizing chart. I am a 38" chest and 32" arm and the medium fits well. A couple of additional comments on fit. First, the fit and sizing chart seem to include the liner. So on my jacket, it fits nice and snug (not too tight) with the liner in. It's a little looser with the liner out (not too loose to be annoying, but not as nice of a fit as with the liner in). So you might want to adjust your sizing decision based on whether or not you intend to use the liner. Second, I have an athletic build with a 32" waist, and the shoulders/chest fit better than the waist. There's some extra room in the waist. The jacket doesn't have a drawstring to tighten up the waist. June 11, 2015
Classic style, unbeatable price. I purchased this jacket as my first riding jacket and I am so glad I did. I initially had purchased an Icon Textile Overlord jacket because it was the best value jacket with full 5 protection pads that I could find. I ended up not liking the style and overall fit so I went with this beauty. First off, it is incredibly well made. I can see that it is hand-stitched at points and the attention to detail is second to none. The leather used for the arms is thick, soft and pliable. The style is amazing and to my eye would work on any bike or in my case, 2 wheeled conveyance. The bang for your buck factor is off the charts. I looked at many other jackets similarly and higher priced that were not as well made. Second, the protection sits right where I want it to. On the textile Overlord I found the elbow pieces to be too free-floating and it bothered me enough to return it. On this jacket they are all snug in the right place. I can't even tell there is a back piece when I'm wearing it. For sizing reference I'm 6'3", 225 and muscular, broad of chest and shoulder. I found XL to fit as perfect as I could hope for. Awesome Jacket Great jacket! In the review video it says the model is 6'1" 195 lbs and 43" chest and wearing a medium, I am 6' 195lbs with 42" chest so i ordered a medium, and it was too small. I returned it for a L and it fits perfect. I can squeeze a hoodie on underneath. Awesome jacket!!! June 2, 2015
Great protection, comfortable and stylish. Bought it about a year ago, decided to write an overview after yesterday's accident, which I had with my CB600F7 and a guy on Mercedes ML, he just forgot to keep the distance and as a result I had to slide the asphalt about 10m. So the protection was great and I didn't notice the hit on my left shoulder at all (for info: I had almost stopped before the car hit me to the rear wheel), thanx to good leather sleeves external damages are hard to see after the slide. Concerning the air flow: I used to wear it during last summer city riding in Kiev Ukraine, so it wasn't very hot while I was moving with no heavy traffic, but I would offer Icon designers to add 2 ventilated false pockets as they were on the predecessor - Strongarm model. Some words about waterproofness: this modes wasn't declared as a waterproof, but during this spring I caught a small rain while riding, and the only thing that was poorly wet after 30min riding was my chest, all the rest of the jacket was dry. Recommended I use this for daily commute, its a great jacket. I wear it mostly without the liner as it gets very hot in brisbane. Leather sleeves are very nice and the textile chest is a great contrast. The green version is much nicer than expected. This product is quite water resistant but i do not recommend riding in this if it is forcasted to rain. Will definitely recommend this product for someone who wants something that looks casual. Great jacket! The body of the jacket is a bit rigid and I hope that it will break in over time. It's very solid material though. Based on the size measurements I should have been an XL. Which fit great in the body but I have broad shoulders and long arms so I had to bump up to a 2XL to really get the fit I wanted for riding. Overall a very solid product and looking forward to owning it for years to come! March 2, 2015
If you have bigger arms and shoulders than average get one size up from chart. I went off of sizing chart and jacket fit was tight around my arms. Had to get the next size up for jacket to fit properly around my arms and shoulders. So, if you have tooth pick arms follow sizing chart. If you have larger than average upper body get one size up from sizing chart. November 20, 2014

LUKE JOHNSON L: Ordered a Medium based on the video, but it was too small. I'm 6' 190 lbs and the forearms were extremely tight. I couldn't have worn anything but a t-shirt underneath it, and that was still too tight. Awesome jacket though, can't wait to get the right size. May 4, 2015

A S: Because it looks great, and i already survived a crash in one... the insurance company wants to replace all my gear, so why not the alternate colour? Aug 26, 2014
John R: Modern tailor with a classic cut. The herring bone nylon adds texture and subsistence. Leather arms provide additional strength and protection along with armor throughout in all key areas. Jul 29, 2014
Rich H: A stylish jacket that comes in plus sizes! With a mix of textile and leather and plenty of armor, this jacket manages to not make you look like a spaceman off your ride. Very comfortable jacket with plenty of venting and a great removable liner. Love it. Jul 15, 2014
Hugh J: its the only jacket that doesnt make you look like a douche Apr 24, 2014
A shopper asked: Hi I am 6'2 and 160 pounds. quite slim with broad shoulders and long arms. My experience with most of the "american fit" jackets is that they tend to be bigger in the waist area which causes it to bunch up in front of me when riding and allow wind and dust in. Is this the case with this jacket? Also I live in Beijing where it is hot and dry in the summer and cold and dry in the winter, is this jacket suitable for this climate? May 9, 2014

Hugh J: This jacket is a lot warmer than the review might indicate. In California we get pretty chilly (in the low 20s) at night during the winter, this jacket would be good for about 40-50 without needing a sweater under it. I think its actually going to be to warm to ride in it during summer.

The jacket still bunches up, because of the nylon chasis, its very stiff. Trying to break it in, but so far its still pretty rigid.

JORGE R asked: Hi all,

I'm comparing this jacket to the s and s band of brothers one. My questions is more on the side of fitting for chopper style cruising. Are these two the same cut/style? from the pictures I get the feeling that the icon is a bit longer on the waist (meaning it won't come up on you if you lean forward or back a bit, beer gut aside), and the band of brothers one is longer on the arms (and seems to be shorter on the waist from the pictures and the video).

I've never own a dual material riding jacket, only waterproof textile, but I"m very interesting in this one as it provides the coolness of denim/or similar and the leather look, but I'm also concerned on how you wash this??? only dry cleaning? or you go with leather treatment for the arms, and a sponge and soap for the body?

I know both are close $ wise, so it's a close call, which one would you say is better on quality (material).

Thanks in advance for your helps, and ride on or rock on!

Paul K: It is longer in the torso and covers your back good when leaned over or upright(I ride a naked bike). Also I'm usually a large or x-large but got a medium as reccomended by the demo vid and glad I did. Cleaning hasn't been hard. All I've done so far is what you mentioned (sponge and soapy water). The textile part is stiff. It doesn't stretch. It only gets a little more flexible.

Quality wise it's pretty good. It had some loose threads that needed trimming but not bad for the price. It's a cool looking jacket.

Steven F: I like the length of the body. As far as cleaning, I'm not sure but need to figure out soon. Probably dry clean only. I've never seen the s and s one, looks great though. I feel your pain, I would have had to make the sme decision if I knew that was out there. I know that's not a lot of help, but I can tell you I'm happy with the icon and I would buy it again. A shopper asked: i really like this jacket. i was set on the triumph mcqueen classic, but this one has a lot more features. just curious on your opinion between those. or one similar in that sub 300 price range, with good venting and protection and a decent look.?
thanks for your time

Steven F: The only thing I didn't like is the fabric makes a noise like it's made from a tarp. The more I've worn it the better it has got. The liner by the arm has torn too, but no one will ever see it but me. The look is very cool, my buddy didn't even think it was a riding jacket when he saw it. It has decent ventilation and is pretty warm by it's self. The arms are a little too tight to wear a hoodie under it, so I may cut the sleeves off of one just to get that little extra warmth. Overall, I'm really happy with it and would buy it again. Nov 26, 2014

Andrew M: I think this jacket looks fantastic. I wear it commuting to work every day I and often get comments from colleges about the jacket. The leather is very soft. The material on the front and back is stiff so it would offer plenty of protection. I haven't used it in extremely hot weather yet but so far it has provided enough ventilation through the under arm vents.
Hope this helps.

John R: I think that the McQueen has great style and looks like good construction. I can only speak from its description, haven't owned it. It's a heritage jacket that calls to the triumphs and the cafe culture. I personally ride an R9T, not a triumph so I went neutral. The VIgilante leather arms and accents are superb. I prefer the multiple textures of the Icon. Nov 27, 2014

Clinton Y: I cannot really give you a comparison between the two jackets because I am not familiar with the McQueen Classic but I must say that the ICON 1000 is a great looking jacket and will keep you protected and stylish. I like mine very much. Nov 25, 2014

A shopper asked: I know that the dropout version comes with patches. Will the material of this jacket allow me to add my own patches or is it too thick? Thanks Mar 20, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Paul K: It is pretty stout material. I would say you'd need a heavy gauge needle on a sewing machine to punch through. I don't think one could do it by hand. The leather sleeves are soft enough that a leather working needle would work just fine Mar 20, 2015

dwight j: I added patches to mine, it's a heavy fabric but the local seamstress pulled it off. Just have to watch positioning of them to avoid zippers, pads etc Mar 20, 2015

A shopper asked: I live in Vegas, so year 'round riding is pretty much a given. I'm wondering how this jacket will fair during the summer and the winter especially. I know when sitting at a light it tends to get hot, but once your on the move, things cool off pretty quick. Is that true to this jacket? As for winter riding, it's gets to the low 30's on occasion 29-28 degrees tops. Along with the vest liner is, is it possible to fit a hoodie underneath to maintain warmth?

Really digging the look of this jacket, and while I'd like to go full on leather with the 100 Chapter Jacket, it's just a bit out of my price range currently.

Clinton Y: Hello,

I have the jacket and love the look and quality. I live in San Francisco so it does not get really cold but I wear a sweater underneath and the jacket keeps me very warm. I did a ride on a Saturday night and it was around 52 and the jacket kept me warm.

Now my jacket fits a bit snug as the larger size up is too large so a hoodie does not leave enough room but the jacket fits snug hence it keeps the heat in when riding in cold weather.

On hot days you can take the liner out and it should be fine but I have not had to do that. I did a ride and it was warm and the jacket was warm so I took off my sweater that I use with the jacket and I was cool when riding. Be very careful about the size of this jacket. I don't have your measurements as I had to reorder this jacket three times as the first time it was way too tight and the second it was snug so I ordered a size up to compare and the size up was way too large.

The video is deceiving so play careful attention to the jacket size. Once you get the right size you will love this jacket. One of my riding partners loved the jacket as do I. I hope this helps. If you wish send me your size, height, etc and I can help direct you to the correct size.

Steven F: I bought it with the same intentions. I've ridden in high 20 degree weather with a t shirt under it. Not really warm, but I didn't freeze. I think if you had a slightly undersized hoodie it may fit, but my jacket fits pretty snug. I also bought the icon 1000 neck warmer to help when it's cold. In the heat it seams to breath pretty nice, but like you said it gets hot when you stop. The looks are awesome. Hope this helps Jul 1, 2014

A shopper asked: I ride a cruiser, iron 883... just wondering what you guys are riding with this jacket... does it matter? will this sit right when on a cruiser bike? i mean, i guess i shouldn't care how it looks while i'm in motion, more concerned with how it'll fit and if I'll be comfortable with no bunching, and enough material to comfortably reach the 12" apes i'm looking to add to my bike. Eli J: Riding a yahmaha fjr1300. Good jacket so far. Arms are good quality leather with good enough length. Rides just below the belt in front, a bit lower in the back. The liner to this jacket is light materiel and holds the armor in place with pockets, not to bad in the heat, pit zips are good. Feb 23, 2015

Lou J asked: Hey! How does this jacket fit compared to the Oildale? I tried the Oildale and it's very short. Is the Vigilant cut a bit longer? Also, is it cut as roomy as the Oildale? Is it that Icon boxy fit? Thanks! Apr 18, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Steven F: It's a little roomier than I expected it to be, but very comfortable after you get used to the pads. Not sure on the length compared to the oildale. I would say its a bit longer than the sport bike jackets I've had before. The only thing I don't like about it is how noisy the material is. It's probably a strange complaint and maybe the longer I wear it and break in that material it will go away. But I think the looks and protection from falls and weather are pretty awesome. Good luck! Justin L asked: The video model is 6"1' and has a 43" chest, and according to the presenter wears MEDIUM.
However, the chart says M is for 38-40"...Can someone please clarify if I'm missing something? SHouldn't this dude be an extra large?
Also, where is the XS size that the chart lists? Its not an option here.
Thank you

Hugh J: The sizing videos are pretty much BS. I based my size off it as well and bought an L, when actually on my bike, it was tight around the gut, rode up my back and the armpits were really tight. I sent it back for an XL, sleeves are longer than I need, but it fights like a true XL should on my frame. 5'9" 225 46" chest Jun 25, 2014

Welcome to our detail breakdown of the new Icon 1000 Vigilante jacket available at RevZilla.com.

Classic chopper cut from Icon 1000 this is a new edition to the lineup I almost think of it as the baby brother to something like the Outsider. This is going to be the Vigilante.  There's also the drop out version which has almost letterman style patching  done in chenille which is a very unique flavor.

This is your stock version sub $300.00, three season operability here.  So you're going to get Spring, Summer and Fall.  There's a removable thermal vest liner and again you're getting kinda the best of both worlds. You're getting that classic chopper style, it's going to be the Icon sport cut and the nice part about Icon 1000 is again, you're getting a mixture of textile and leather with a lot of hand done stitching, but D3O armor in the shoulders, in the elbows as well as in the back, that is fully removable.

Before I go through the nuances, let's talk about sizing. Philip is 6'1'', 195 about a 42-43 inch chest. This guy fits very similar to something like the Icon Chapter, he'd be a medium in that, he's a medium in this. Keep that in mind, he is a medium. Has a little bit more room to it.  Again it's going to be that Icon sport or relaxed cut so it's going to have a little bit more room.  Remember if you're concerned about shipment, we ship for free. You can always give us a shout if you have any questions.

Subscribe to us at RevZilla TV and our Youtube channel.  It's up to date with the latest Icon 1000 gear reviews we're constantly rolling out.  But more importantly join the conversation, let me know what you think.

Diving back into the jacket, here with the Vigilante.  This is the black version, there's a dark Earth version as well, both versions are going to have this PU coded hounds tooth textile in the center, along the body.  And again you can see, there's this texture to it, has a really unique style to it.  It's going to be beefier than something like the Oildale, which is that highland or that waxed coated canvas. But it's not, obviously, going to be as abrasion resistant as the leather that you see in the arms or the leather you might see on the chapter side of things.

Now, you'll see with Icon 1000 the devil's in the details. Brazilian. Drummed dyed cowhide here.  Accents on the pockets.  Accents along the zipper pulls. Metal oxide YKK zips.  You're going to see, again, more drum dyed cowhide, again, along the collar and then these full beefy sleeves that have that really nice premium feel to them and that tie in well with the Icon 1000 accents.

Turn and face away from me. You can see how the line of the sleeve comes all the way down, remember D3O molecular armor, meaning it's going to get rigid on impact, but it's very pliable and very comfortable to wear. Shoulders, elbows and forearm; going all the way down.  And notice this big gusset here on the back.  It's going to give you range of motion.  Allow you to move when you're sitting on the bike; if you're reaching for your apes, but again you're going to have room to work with here.

One of the other things to see here, is I call this three season warm weather jacket and it is pretty heavy.  The reason being is there is monstrous pit zips on both sides that are mesh backed.  They're going to allow you to get great air flow through it.  Now I will say this, it does have leather and it is not water-proof, it's water-resistant, but I'd stay out of the rain on this bad boy.  It's really not designed for that.

Remember, D3O Viper CE level one back protector, beefed up and built in. It is removable.  It's coming with the jacket.  And notice the high collar here in the back as well.

Come back around in the front for me.  Let me unzip it and show the guts. So as Philip unzips this bad boy down, remember, I've walked you through the line here check out that Icon 1000 Outsider jacket too, which is kind of that iteration on this bad boy.  Notice you're going to have this big flap that's going to block wind from behind the zipper. As you open it up, again, finishing details on the inside.  It's Icon 1000.  There's your satin thermal vest liner. Lots of pockets here and if you move the right side of it, you're going to see we have it unzipped already.  This is when you remove it.  You'll see the satin liner which has those brass knuckles on it, lot of pockets and mesh built in to keep you comfortable.  Also has this Napoleon pocket here, with the grommets, you can run your ear buds up if you so choose.

Next up in you journey is the click right here, read other rider reviews of the Icon 1000 Vigilante version and also make sure you check out the drop out version as well.  Remember we will ship for free and if you want to talk to a gear geek, give Philip a ring.
