HJC CL-17 Mech Hunter Helmet 4.6 5 253 253
Ear pockets not for speakers. I switched over the orange cl-17 Mech hunter from a Scorpion r-410. My decision was based primarily on the protection factors and the looks. First thing to note is the ear pockets are shallow. If I put speakers in them from my sena, it is very difficult for me to get my ears unfolded. I have to put the speakers under the cheek pads and have a hard time hearing them. Wind noise is pretty bad. If you want a chin curtain, do not use the one for the cl-17, it is poorly designed and ineffective. Instead you should purchase one for a cl-16. I can ride with all vents open and barely feel a breeze. November 14, 2015
Snug, quiet, comfortable. This helmet fits very well, has a great range of view, and is quiet yet does not drown out needed traffic sounds(i.e: sirens). The open/closeable vents allow adequate airflow for a comfortable ride. Overall this helmet is great and is worth the price. November 23, 2015
Good replacement for a worn-out Vortex. Bought this helmet to replace a Bell Vortex that was beginning to wear out. I've worn is for about three months now, including a ~1500 mile multistate trip. The overall quality of the two helmets seems very similar, although the fit is quite different. The CL-17 has thicker internal padding, but is still noticeably larger than the Vortex. The Cl-17 also rounder, which in my case means that it forms a pressure point on the center of my forehead that can become uncomfortable on long rides. Finally, the Cl-17 is noisier than the vortex although the noise was at a lower, much more bearable pitch than the Vortex's shrieking side vents. I've since added the optional chin curtain, which drops the Cl-17's volume to lower than the Vortex. I've also added the optional Pinlock insert, which I HIGHLY recommend if you ride in a climate where fogging is routine. It's a good helmet overall and a great one for the price. November 23, 2015
Great value for a very good helmet. I have never owned a $600 helmet, and as a cruiser rider I may never own one. My requirements are a Snell safety rating and a good bang for the buck. My first "real" helmet was a $200 HJC FG-17 that had a lot of nice features including Snell and pinlock visor capability. It was extremely comfortable and quite quiet. While up on the Blue Ridge Parkway, my bike slipped on some loose gravel and my helmet impacted the roadway enough to ring my bell. I needed a replacement and didn't want to spend $200 if I could avoid it. HJC had been a great manufacturer for me, so I decided to give this one a chance when I saw it on clearance. I have been very impressed with the CL-17. It's a little bit louder and the visor is a little less UV-resistant. I can tell this because my auto-darkening glasses get more tinted in the sun. This is actually a plus for me though, because they remained perfectly clear in the FG-17 and didn't function as sunglasses. Overall I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would buy another on in a heartbeat. True to fit, good value, very happy. November 10, 2015
NIce helmet and fits well. I am very pleased with this helmet. It is comfortable and pretty. The shield is easy to remove and you can buy different colored shields to put on the helmet to customize it for you. I purchased the rainbow colored shield and it looks great on my helmet. November 9, 2015
Why Pay More Why pay more just to impress someone. This helmet has everything a $500 helmet has at a 1/3 of the price. It also has Snell rating, can't get any better than that in a safety rating. I love the quick release face shield, I can go from smoke to clear in just about 15 seconds. I ride a bagger so I carry my extra shied with me. November 9, 2015
Get one, at least as a spare. My 2nd CL-17, love this helmet. Jumped on this Mission helmet from Revzilla on closeout, bought the matte gray in large and 2 smoke shields for what I paid for my 1st CL-17 last year locally. Bought that one in medium thinking it would break in but it never loosened up, gave it to my wife she loves it, she plans to use it for her winter helmet with a balaclava. My new large fits snug but great, the larger shell gives me more face room and for some reason cuts down the updraft coming up from the frame of my Buell Ulysses. Wish it had more shield detents but no regrets, excellent quality/performance and Snell 2010 for a bargain price. I could go on and on but simply put the CL-17 for me is stable, well made, reasonably quiet (we wear ear plugs while touring anyway), excellent shield clarity, versatility of fit within the shell size, and my large isn't Chinese (!). Revzilla comes through again with great value and fast shipping, thanks guys. November 5, 2015
Great Helmet My new HJC CL-17 Mission Helmet has been great so far, I love the styling, love how light it is, its so quiet and fits extremely firmly on my head (If you have a round face you might want to by a little larger size). I have only one gripe in that I wish the chin strap would have been a quick connect/disconnect ratchet type. I would take a star away for that but honestly its a nit pick. I have a cheaper older helmet with a quick connect and I thought that it was awesome so why put a simple buckle and snap chin strap on such an awesome helmet I don't know. November 3, 2015

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Weston T: Best Bang for the buck being a first time rider it seemed like a sound choice. Safety is 1# priority when looking for a helmet and this has it. Aug 6, 2015
Jameson N: Best bang for the buck I could find. and I also love the reviwes May 1, 2015
Colt M: Bought a motorcycle that was green wanted the helmet to match Jan 9, 2015
Heath L: Because the other helmet FG-17 Mambo is apparently a smaller XXXL fit compared to the CL-17, so trying this one as it didn't fit. Dec 3, 2014
Justin B asked: Does it have cutouts for speakers to go in for something like Sena? and Does it have a chin guard? The last full face I had did not have one, and always felt like the helmet was trying to be ripped off. Apr 24, 2015

Steven C: No specific cut outs for something like a Sena. Not really sure what you mean by the chin guard question. It is a full face helmet (as you can see) with a full frontal impact protection...including your chin. Aerodynamically it does very well on the highway and does not pull on the strap (therefore your neck) as long as you aren't looking at the sky doing 90mph :). If you are referring to the chin strap comfort, I find it to be very comfortable. Doesn't pinch or choke, just keeps the helmet in place if need be. Although I think if you have the right fit, you shouldn't really need to rely on the strap. I found this helmet to be an enormous upgrade from my year old Bell. Highly recommend this helmet. Justin B: Thanks for the info! My current helmet has what I guess is actually called a wind screen that cups the chin. My old one did not and it made it feel like the helmet was being pulled off. Do you think Sena speakers would fit comfortably in there? Apr 24, 2015
Steven C: Listen to Andy L I guess lol. Had no clue there were cut outs for speakers and such...guess i need to explore my helmet more haha Apr 24, 2015
Logan T: It doesn't have the wind breaker. I sort of wish it did though. May 4, 2015
Justin B: Looks like you can buy one for it on the site. May 7, 2015
Andy L: Justin,
Revzilla just asked me to help you with your question. I just purchashed the HJC CL-17 Mech Hunter (Black and Yellow) a week and a half ago. It fits perfectly and it snug all the way around. There are cut outs for speakers but I'm not sure if Sena will be the right fit or not. Also there is a chin strap with two D-rings and a button to fit the end of the strap to so it doesn't blow in the wind. Other than that the colors are what they look like and the visor gives great visibility. I bought the Black Smoked visor for replacement (HJ-09) quick release works wonders. Best of Luck!

Justin B: Hi Andy, thanks for the information. How are the cutouts? Do they have a decent Depth, and does the padding have a net over it? And apparently the word I was looking for was Chin Curtain, does it come with a chin curtain? Apr 28, 2015
A shopper asked: I got the medium, and it is way too tight- what concerns me is that all of the larger sizes all share the same shell. How much bigger is the bigger shell (L+) than the smaller one (XS-M)? I don't want to look like the great gazoo :) Mar 26, 2015

Sean F: I got the XL and it fit just a tad tight the first week or so, but after wearing it a bit it's extremely comfortable. If your helmet is flat out too tight then you might want a larger size, but in my experience it took about a week to break in and really fit. Mar 27, 2015

James S: Thanks. Even the large is pretty tight, I can't close my mouth without biting my cheeks :| Looks like I might need to go with a bigger size (still), or try a different brand. Was the XL the one that the size chart indicated for you? Apr 4, 2015

A shopper asked: My head measures 22 1/4". This puts me right between a small and medium sized helmet. What size should I go with? Jul 18, 2015

Jofferson G: I wear a 7 1/4 inch baseball cap size. A size large is a snug fit for me and still breaking it in. Jul 19, 2015
