That is correct. The topcase kit required for your 2002 VFR, Givi part# 166FZ, uses the same mounting points as your factory Honda side cases and, thus, is not compatible. The 166FZ can only be used by itself or in conjunction with the PL(X/XR)166 side case

Yes, to mount a Mono-Key Case such as the Givi E55 to the Kymco Downtown 300i, you will need the Givi SR92 Mounting Kit(SKU780840). The Givi SR92 will provide the mounting plate and all the mounting hardware required to add a Mono-Key Case to your Kymco Downtown 300i. The Givi SR92 is available by special order only, please call Customer Service to place an order 877-792-9455.

To mount a Givi Top-case like the E55 Maxia III, to the Triumph Street Triple, you will need Givi's 727FZ Monorack Side Arms and the Givi M5 Monokey plate for FZ series.

Answer: 
The mechanism INSIDE the case, which releases the lock when the (battery operated) remote is depressed, is "hard wired" to the vehicles battery. This "hard wiring" incorporates a quick-release system that you barely notice when removing or attaching the luggage.

I have the E52, Great bag. Same concept. Givi sells brake lights as a kit you easily install. The lights are not LED they are small incandescent bulbs in an array. I have had no trouble with my kit install or operation.

Currently, GIVI does not make any mounting topcase or saddlebag plates for the Honda Stateliner. In order to put a top case of any kind on this bike, you will need to mount a luggage rack of some type and then mount a universal plate to that rack.

Givi seems to indicate that the rack for that model bike will preclude the use of the factory side cases, but I'm not certain what mounting options I have for the top case.

The correct mounting hardware is the 166FZ. From there you would purchase either the MonoKey or MonoLock Top-plate. Unfortunately the hardware is out of stock currently, but I've linked the product for you below:
