Givi V47 Monokey Top Case
Ride more safely by more securely stowing your stuff
I've heard horror stories about cargo that has been strapped on then come loose, so I wanted to more securely stow my stuff and be worry free. My laptop backpack would not fit in my 2015 Versys 1000 LT saddle bags, but the Givi V47 Monokey Top Case is plenty roomy. My only gripe is that the quick release mounting hooks point rearward. You would think something with a backrest would have forward facing hooks to provide better safety.

Looks like it was made for the FJR 1300.
The V47 blends with the lines of my FJR 1300 almost as if Yamaha had designed it specifically for the bike. In fact Yamaha's own top case looks bulky and less integrated than the V47, and it's over 2 inches taller (stock case and mount versus V47 and givi SR357 mount) and the stock setup is extremely pricey with less capacity. Gave the "Durability" rating a 3 because I haven't experience enough time with the product to access how durable it is.

Looks good but causes the front end to wobble on my VFR!
This is the first piece of locking luggage I have owned. I find it's nice to be able to lock my helmet etc. in the case.
I put this on a 2000 VFR800. It looks good on the VFR and was easy to mount. I bought the VFR specific support brackets and top case mounting plate.
A couple of issues: 1) It was very difficult to get the case to latch to the mounting plate. 2) When you shut the case it automatically locks so it's easy to lock the keys in the box. 3) And the real biggie, it upsets the balance of the VFR and causes the front end to wobble. For me it happens when decelerating. I did a google search and apparently this is a common issue with the Givi top case on a VFR. Google it you'll see. I feel that since this is such a well known issue Givi and Revzilla should disclose the issue especially since it has the potential to cause an accident. If I had know about the issue I would not have bought it for my VFR.

Close but QC has some work to do.
Having bought the B 33 GIVI top case recently for my Bonneville , I decided I'd like a bigger one for the Explorer which also has the OEM side bags but I did not want a square box so I was looking at newer GIVI top cases and fell in like for the V 47......
It turns out this one has a few niggling issues. The lock and mount as new was almost impossible to mouth and close after install on the GIVI Monokee universal rack which you now have to purchase separately. This makes the actual cost of this bag well over 350 bucks so GIVI is rapidly pricing itself out of the bang for the buck category.
I would not mind so much but honestly their QC has slipped. My earlier model B33 opens and closes like a bank vault and has an overall feeling of precision but the new V47 is taking way too long to break in ....
I wanted to utilize the AltRider luggage rack for the V 47 and after much trouble and using TWO adapter kits ,one from GIVI and one from AltRIder I ended up combining the two to generate one system that would work and after all that work the V47 still would only work on the GIVI model specific luggage rack because of the ridges design of the bottom of the Top case was interfering with the AltRider model rack and it would not seat.
Once I gave up on the AltRider version and went back to the GIVI rack all is well and the system is working and the ALT rack will have to go back . I really liked that rack but it only fits top cases that have flat bottoms as it is too wide for the V47 designed case.
I am looking forward now to adding a flashing brake light kit to the case and the added visibility that would provide.
Room is good inside the case and it will hold two helmets long as one or both are not dual sport lids and fits my modular lid with Sena on the side ok . the 47 liter case holds a lot more than it looks like it would and i got a lot of soft luggage inside with no problem.
I bought the cheapest version of it and seeing as how GIVI in their wisdom has seen fit to eliminate the document compartment advertised on ALL of the site videos I really felt duped by GIVI (not Reveille) because the videos state that ALL monokey top cases come with document holders in the lid and when I called GIVI they informed me they haven't had those in two years. Hmmm. So change the dang videos please.
Anyway the fit of the lid and gasket has been an ongoing issue but hopefully will "wear in " more with time and work more like the B 33 and inspire confidence that the lock is indeed holding.
The rest of the story will only unfold in time as I see the durability of what seems to be a very cheapened locking mechanism over the other model I own.
AS for racks the GIVI rack has sharp edges and no tie down loops of any kind so you will need to shim the whole rack up to allow the tie downs on the existing tail piece to be used and you might wish to take care how you loop the tie downs (when top case is NOT in use) to insure you do not cut the strap webbing .
All in I am fairly satisfied with the install but really miffed that the ALT unit would not work . Also if you buy the GIVI model specific luggage rack for this box and need to remove the locking tab on the back to allow you to mount soft bags like the OEM Triumph and BMW bags which have loops on the bottom you will NOT be able to unscrew the back locking tab without drilling them out. They stripped very easily unable to remove them from their lock tight fitment. I have never had this problem with the blue lock tight but I finally drilled them out and used the screw which i bout with the AltRider adapter kit and solved the problem.
Reveille, as usual has been patient with my rack ruckus which made a two day affair out of a 20 minute install. If I was using the bead scale of difficulty this one would have made me look like Moses most likely.
Being retired and enjoying putzin with bikes , this was mildly amusing so I'm posting up this silly EPISTLE to help those like myself who read all reviews with earnestness to hopefully avoid
pitfalls such as this . No way to know that the V 47 has an unusual bottom shape that can not work on large footprint luggage racks like the AltRider model specific ones.

So far so good
I bought the brackets and mounting plate over time and installed them separately. Once I did, putting the case on is just snapping it into place and turning the key.
It arrived in great condition, although the key had just been tossed in the box. I thought it had been locked in the case so I starting to freak out but dug through the packing and found the key.
Only had it for a couple days, so I can't answer on it's durability. It FEELS good, but it's all plastic so any kind of hard impact will definitely scratch, crack, or stress bend it. It closes very tight and seems very water resistant.
It MIGHT hold 2 large helmets, might not. I only have one, a Shoei GT Air. In the picture i have the helmet, a rolled up jacket, a fanny pack, and my gloves. Room to spare also.

Top Case Givi
Bought this case a few month ago used for a trip from Belize to Sturgis and back did with it over 11.000 KM no problem at all.
The only defect I find on it is that you can lock the box without the keys. Which means that u may lock the keys inside the case.

Great to have
Per my son who i purchased this for his birthday- he loves it to put his helmet, extra items needed when going from his apartment to campus and has also been great to have when purchasing items, restaurant leftovers, etc. He has been very happy with it.

Perfect option for FJR
Nice top case. I had another FJR with a E56 top case. The V47 is just right, not too big and not too small. Recommend this case over the other E56 at least for the FJR. Looks great with the new design.
