Great air flow Having used this jacket now for 500 miles, I believe it was money well spent. This jacket is very versatile from 40 F to 80 F My only hit on the jacket is the collar, it rubs when turning my head for lane changes. All in all Great Jacket September 24, 2015
First Gear Mesh Tex Hi-viz jacket Great fit true to size, well made. Good armor, zippers, comfortable. The mesh is tight but air flow is good. My older other brand mesh jacket had better air flow but insects would penetrate it, not so with jacket. Great purchase super fast shipping. The Hi-viz is a definite safety advantage. August 31, 2015
Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket, great price' good protection and fairly comfortable. I'm 6'5" 230 got a XL Tall August 24, 2015
Awesome warm//hot weather jacket! I purchased the Firstgear Mesh jacket to be more comfortable in warm/hot weather while still having decent protection. This jacket fits the bill perfectly. I bought a L(Tall). The fit is great overall, though I wish the cuffs could be adjusted a bit tighter. This does not cause me any issues, but is a slight nit pick. The jacket is comfortable, air passes very well through it without being too much. The armor is good and stays in place very well. The jacket pockets are very useful and all the items I need if I do not wish to bring a tank bag. August 21, 2015
Jacket saved my life! My Firstgear Mesh Tex jacket is an older one, before they had internal liners, and styled a bit different than the new ones. After at least 10 years of using this jacket, I went down on I-40 at about 75 MPH due to debris scattered by a truck in front of me. Initially I managed to stay on my Royal Star Venture by climbing to the high side as it slid on the side with 2 flat tires. Then the front tire started bouncing and the back started coming around, and I realized it was about to catch both tires and flip, which would have thrown me like a catapult. So I bailed off to get into a slide and let my safety gear work. I hit hard and flipped, and then slid head first, feet and head up, sliding primarily on my right chest and shoulder with arms stabilizing me. When I stopped, I was still in the right lane but my motorcycle was in the median after flipping, going airborne, and tangling with the divider cables and posts - completely destroyed. Once stopped, I rolled to my right, to the grass, and started checking for injuries. I had no road rash, except for a spot about the size of a quarter on my right knee. But the heat from friction as this jacket took the slide caused some minor burns on my skin, with the outline of the armor and the stitching clearly visible for about a week. I did have many very colorful bruises, a crack in my shoulder blade, a cracked pelvis, and 6 broken ribs. But I am certain that without this jacket on I would have died from tissue and blood loss. Now, as I recover, I am shopping for new jacket and motorcycle. I shall ride again, thanks to Firstgear jacket, Alpinestars gloves, and HJC helmet. Buy good safety gear and wear it every time you ride! August 17, 2015
More High Viz than others This replaces an older mesh jacket. Riding a touring bike behind a faring blocks visibility of the torso area, and many designs had black sleeves with High Vis torsos. (Hello Designers?) This one is so bright you need sunglasses. Cooling is good. Sleeves fit a little loose, but seems like would stay in place during initial impact if needed. Armor does not ventilate (no holes), which kind of defeats the purpose of a mesh jacket. Yet its still cool and comfortable for riding in hot weather. August 10, 2015
Excellent Choice for Summer Love this jacket. The mesh, although small to look at, lets tons of air through. I love the clean look of the coat, too, nothing fancy, just classic styling. With the liner in, can easily be a 3-season jacket. Fit is boxier rather than snug through the chest, and that's a big plus in my opinion. Overall, I'm very satisfied. August 3, 2015
Excellent Phoenix Arizona Summer Commuter Jacket Ventilation & Protection I purchased the Firstgear Tex Mesh Jacket primarily because a) it was a mesh jacket, b) it was the most hi-viz with lots of reflective strips, and c) it had a longer torso than the Joe Rocket Phoenix 3.0 that it replaced. This jacket really grabs people's attention. It is bright. It is significantly brighter than my Arai hi-viz helmet. This jacket really “pops.” You will be seen. It is slightly less ventilated than my Joe Rocket Phoenix 3.0 because a) the armor is larger and more protective, b) the pockets have a water protection barrier that was not present on the Joe Rocket Phoenix, and c) the weave of the Firstgear mesh is slightly tighter and almost certainly more protective. It still passes an amazing amount of air. Why did I not by a Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0? Too little hiz-vis, too little reflectivity, and too much black. Also, my Joe Rocket 3.0 was always too short in the torso (I have a long body). I replaced the foam back-pad with an armored back-pad. Yes, the back-pad is hot in Phoenix. All the armor is hot in Phoenix. Everything is hot in Phoenix. Fit My Joe Rocket Phoenix 3.0 was an Extra Large, the Firstgear Tex Mesh is a Large. I am a little porky at present, mostly in the middle, at 5”10' and 215 lbs. The Firstgear has velcro tabs at the sides of the waist for adjustment (although this isn't advertised). The Firstgerar also has a covering flap at the base of the zipper that snaps. I put my right arm in first, then my left. I pull the armor onto the left elbow because I have short arms. The armor isn't going anywhere—it stays in position over both elbows once in place. Suitability My daily commute is approximately 1 hour in Phoenix on the highway. Part of the trip is fairly fast, part of the trip can be stop and go. The typical temperature in the mornings is in the 80s to 90s, and the temperature on the way home is typically in the high 100s to low 110s. During monsoon season, July and August, we have some humidity to go with the heat. I took the liner out of the jacket as soon as I opened the box and put it in the closet to stay. It is well attached with both zippers and snaps. The liner has an iPod pocket. There is another one in the jacket for use when the liner is out. I can slip my phone (3” wide, 6” tall, 5/8” thick with the protective cover) into it but the top of the pocket, but the phone sticks out more than an inch—it is a tight fit. The jacket itself has a generous left breast pocket that easily swallows the phone. There are two generous hand-warmer pockets. All of these pockets have rain protection in front of them, a feature not found on my Joe Rocket Phoenix 3.0. All have zippers. All the zippers are high quality and feel very solid. The jacket shows high quality workmanship. It is made in Vietnam. July 30, 2015

Mike V: Nice styling and protection for a 3 season jacket at a decent price point with a good variety of color options to choose from. Jun 9, 2015
Mark R: Lots of tall sizes and looks to be a great jacket. Jun 5, 2015
DANNY L T: needed summer jackets/price Jun 1, 2015
J R: I've loved my previous Firstgear Mesh Tex jacket for over 12 years now. It's been great in the Deep South summers. But I've grown a bit and the jacket has not. It's time for a new version. I love the snap sleeves because I like the additional airflow that you cannot get as easily as with velcro closures. The Neon Yellow/Black is also the right choice for me. Looking forward to this jackets arrival. May 12, 2015
Keith M: Large fit and good brand name. May 1, 2015
John R: I needed a summer riding jacket that will fit me comfortably at an affordable price. Apr 22, 2015
Chad B: it's getting hot Apr 20, 2015
T. A. A: Few manufacturers offer tall sizes and I'm tired of riding with short sleeved jackets. Revzilla offers much more product information than any other vendor I've found. The videos are great and the on-line help was first class. They earned the order. Mar 31, 2015
Thomas E: The right look in a high air flowing mesh jacket. The right size to, a 4xl for the shoulder room I need. Mar 16, 2015
Ken B: Syle and pricing, but as it turns out the collar is terrible, rubs your neck raw, and I will be Craigslisting it. Feb 26, 2015
Ray L: Jacket is very comfortable except for the armor, its hard to get it in the right place. There are pockets with velcro and can be moved into position with a bit of work. I have ordered D30 armor replacement pads for more comfort. Arms are a bit too wide and can't tighten wrist straps beyond a single snap. Velcro would have been better here. Can't say anything about ventilation as it's still winter here in Massachusetts but it has LOTS of mesh. Can't wait to try it out this spring/summer! Feb 21, 2015
Travis J: Because I like the brand, and I am tall. Feb 11, 2015
Joseph P: I chose this jacket as I realised that I currently have only a black jacket with black pants and am often not seen on my bike. Wanted the high visibility yellow jacket, in mesh so I wouldn't roast in the Aussie sunshine! Feb 9, 2015
Wesley B V: This jacket after looking at all of the others in this category I seemed to gravitate back this particular product. I liked the styling of the American Cut over the Euro Cut for the room and extra back length. After looking at the videos of various other jackets that peaked my interest. I settled on the First Mesh Tex Jacket. The price was good for the quality of this jacket in the Hot Weather category. Dec 31, 2014
Austin S: Big to layer clothes for cold morning and meshy for hot evenings. Oct 1, 2014

Allan T: I chose this jacket based on the availability of Tall sizes, it's at a good price point and there were a lot of positive reviews that touched on the information that I wanted to hear about. Jun 23, 2014
Shawn C: need something cool.. but size is american.. nice to be able to reorder and return the wrong size.. Jun 21, 2014
Lewis S: style and sizing options for tall men and not a bunch of labels like Joe Rocket Jun 21, 2014
Scott D: Because it was one of the few that came in a size that would fit me, and was mesh. Jun 19, 2014
Bryan B: It came in bright yellow in my size, 4XL. I already have a black and silver one and I just love it too... Jun 19, 2014
Jackson E: Price and features. After a year of having this jacket I am really impressed. I ride year round in colorado and used this most of the year except for the coldest days ~45 and below. I have been able to wear some layers underneath to stay warm, vents pretty good in the summer. Jun 18, 2014
Marcus K: Ratings, reviews, safety. Jun 6, 2014
Bob R: In a couple of words High-Vizibility. I need a summer weight jacket that helps me be seen by the otherwise distracted drivers here in Northern Virginia. May 7, 2014
T O: I have many Joe Rocket Speedmaster pants, jackets. Have had two Joe Rocket Phoenix 2.0 & 5.0. Firstgear Mesh Tex is a top end mesh jacket!! Materials, stitching, fit, reflective strips front & back, inner zipper pocket, inner smartphone pocket, pulls on external zips. Run it through front loading Whilrpool Duet when buggy and looks new!! I appreciate Joe Rocket Phoenix but, Firstgear Mesh Tex is on another level!! Apr 16, 2014
Joseph k: I chose the Mesh Tex jacket because it was available in silver with very little black and had the option of upgrading the back protection. , I would have chosen white had it been a color option.. Apr 16, 2014
Gary Z: Suggested by operator. I explained my size and needs, and this jacket was recommended . Apr 11, 2014
Luis V: Good Jacket, good Air Flow. The Collar a bit rough on the neck, would be better with softer material. Apr 5, 2014
Marc O: Trusted brand name and good reviews. Available in silver without black on chest and shoulders. Decided this would aid more in less sun heat absorbtion. Most other brands/models had black areas I didnt want. Apr 4, 2014
Bryce W: Like First Gear Products (own a Jaunt2) because it fits me well. Im 6.4 and hope this will do as well. Looking for a hot weather jacket that I can commute in and not show up at home or work drenched in sweat. Mar 16, 2014
Kenneth H: I like the quality of Firstgear products. This will be my second Firstgear jacket. Mar 11, 2014
ryan r: Hi-Viz, style, airflow and armor. Feb 23, 2014
Matts-Ola I: Safety is nr one issue when I purchase a jacket. Hi-viz was therefore the most important reason when I chose this jacket. Jan 10, 2014
M A: High visibility, and firstgear stuff is usually very good quality. Dec 30, 2013
Gregory G: At 6' 5" & 200 lbs I've been looking for a warm weather riding jacket in Hi-Viz. Nov 28, 2013
DAN H: Right price, right style, right fit. No way a European style would fit me. Aug 14, 2013
A shopper asked: Hi there, I am interested in buying this jacket.
The weird thing is the sizing chart. There is a gap of 2 inches between every size and my chest measurements fall in this gap.
I am rather tall and slim. My chest is 40.9', sleeve (from the front of my neck to my wrist) is 32.6' and sleeve measurement from shoulder to wrist is 25.6'
Can anybody please advise?

Craig H: These jackets seem to be on the small side. I'm 5'10, 145 pounds, and normally wear a size 40L Aerostich riding suit. I bought a small based on the size chart and the video review. It turned out to be far too small. I traded it for a medium, which fits fine when wearing just a t-shirt underneath. If I were to wear anything even slightly bulky, it would be tight. (Of course, I bought this jacket for when I ride in the tropics, so I'm never going to wear anything like a polar fleece sweater or something like that underneath.)

Depending on your actual size and what you plan to wear under it, you might want to consider getting a large. The chest might be fairly loose, but at least the sleeves and length wouldn't be 2" too short.

I should point out that the risk of getting the wrong size isn't horrible with RevZilla. I had to pay to return my original small jacket, but even including that cost it was reasonably priced and the jacket is pretty great for warm-weather riding when you want massive ventilation but also want protection.

Jack S: I have had mine for a year now. Works great as a summer jacket. Lots of air flow when riding and keeps the sun off my arms. To answer you question, should fit well on a slim person but you may find the sleeve length on the shorter size. Fits me fine but others say they would like longer sleeves. As most motorcycle gear rule-of-thumb: buy a little large. More room to move around and on those chilly nights you may want to have a sweatshirt on under the jacket or even a rain liner (rain liner as a wind breaker is great on cool summer rides.) Ride Safe. lance h: I think this jacket and other Firstgear apparel are more of an American cut (loose fitting) than anything. I have this jacket in a XXL and it fits loose. This comes in handy on the cold days though, you can wear a rather big jacket underneath this. My only complaint about this jacket, is the sleeves are very long. But I am 5' 10", so maybe a taller person will have a better fit.
Overall I love this jacket, would recommend that the stockier the person to go a size up and the smaller rider go with their size or the next size down.

Paul D: I got this one and it fits very well in the compartment, just enough space for it: Klim-d3o-viper-t5-pro-back-protector May 10, 2014

Scott B: Well I bought two Firstgear jackets, a Mesh Tex and an Adventure Mesh, both size medium tall. The movable shoulder and elbow pad pockets were the same size in both jackets. The D30 shoulder and elbow pads available here, either the T5 sold by Icon or the T5 Pro XT sold by Klim, both fit the pockets very well. The back pad pockets though were different sizes. I was very surprised that the back pad pocket in the Mesh Tex jacket was alot larger than the one in the Adventure Mesh even though the jackets were the same size and the Mesh Tex is a much trimmer jacket. The Viper Pro back pad sold by Klim is a size large D30 product and fit the medium tall Adventure Mesh perfectly. The Mesh Tex will need a size extra large Viper Pro or Viper Stealth D30 back pad to completely fill out the back pad pocket properly but Revzilla doesn't carry an extra large D30 back pad that I can find. Craig H: Although I can't recommend specific armor to fit inside the back pouch of this jacket, there are plenty of great back protectors that can easily be worn underneath. Just remove the silly thin foam pad that comes with the jacket (to provide enough room), strap on your own comfortable segmented full-coverage back protector, put on the jacket, and you're all set. A shopper asked: Does this jacket have belt loop keepers? I know it has a longer drop seat than most jackets out there, but I have what I like to call a "crack" problem, by that I mean, if I am in a riding position I am usually showing some butt crack, and I need a long drop seat with belt loop keepers. Ron W: I just went and inspected my jacket....
It has a zipper that would connect to the First Gear pants
and some snaps for the liner

But the jacket has nothing else in the back panel

tom b: No belt loop keepers but it does have a long drop seat. The best thing to do is get a matching pair of pants and Zip them together in the rear with the jacket provided zipper. No more butt crack and much safer in a get-off. Jun 4, 2014

Norm S: The jacket does not have belt loop keepers but they have supplied a flap on the lower back area which has a zipper on it, The bottom half of the zipper could be sewn onto your riding pants to keep every thing together. Jun 4, 2014

Ken B: No, it doesn't. It only has the zipper to attach First Gear pants. But the new Klim Induction does, which I just replaced my neck scratching Mesh Tex with. Jun 4, 2014

A shopper asked: I would like to know if this Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket has pockets on the zip-out liner and/or on the interior shell. I noticed what I believe is an interior pocket on the wearer's right after Anthony unzipped the wearer's right side portion of the liner. Also, does the wearer's left side have an identical pocket on the left side of the shell after the liner is unzipped? I much prefer dual interior shell, dual liner and dual exterior pockets - 6 pockets total.

Henry C: Inside Pockets-

Main jacket Inside Left- 2 pockets, 1 large with zipper closure, 1 smaller with velcro has a phone icon.
Main jacket inside right - 1 very large horizontal pocket with a velcro top- I use it for a map.

Liner inside left- Has the same phone pocket in the same place.
Liner inside right- Has the same large horizontal pocket with velcro in same place.

Both have the company 800 number stitched in the label.

Great jacket!

Dave R: The Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket has 2 pockets on the zip-out liner and 2 pockets on the interior shell. However, the pockets are not identical; the left side pocket
has a flap enclosure to secure contents (perfect for a cell phone) while the right side pocket has a Velcro strip. The 2 exterior pockets are identical and have zippers.-6 pockets total.

The airflow is excellent , I have used it several times in 90 plus heat and been very pleased with the jacket. I planned to purchase one for my wife.

A shopper asked: I have a First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket, will this fit be the same? Something in the video sounded like the mesh tex may fit different than the other First Gear jackets. Apr 25, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Mike V: I tried on the Kilimanjaro to gain understanding of how First Gear products fit and used this knowledge to decide on the size I needed for the Mesh Tex. I can tell you that First Gear makes the most generous fitting jackets and the Kilimenjaro waseven more generously fitting in a 3xl than the 4xl Mesh Tex I purchased. Jun 19, 2015

roadfly: no loops.... now that you mention it, belt loops could be useful because I use the inside of my jackets to carry stuff and without a way to chinch up the bottom of the jacket, my cargo has been known to shift around or even slip out a few times. Sep 24, 2012

Andrew D asked: I see this jacket has the CE rated armor, but how abrasion resistant is the cloth material? Thanks. Sep 24, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Craig H: Fortunately I haven't had to test the abrasion resistance, but the material appears to be hefty enough to withstand a "gravity test" at normal speeds even though the weave is relatively loose. It's nowhere near as robust as my Aerostich, of course, but it's a fair compromise for hot-weather riding. I bought this jacket specifically for a ride in Costa Rica, and it worked very well.
