I was a bit skeptical about how cool a mesh jacket would be in warm weather, but after using it for a while I'm a big believer.

Not to contradict myself, but this is actually my second jacket, but i definitely wish it had been my first. great airflow after 10mph. as far as sizing goes, im a big guy, so it was a little tight across the belly and a little short. (i am 6'3 and 345lbs) i got the 4x. lots of space up top tho, for i am broad in the shoulders. i would most defiantly recommend the jacket to any new rider. the armor falls where it needs to be, though i wish there was a little more padding on the back.

Im 6'5'' and 200lbs so i ordered an XL Tall. The jacket fits great!.Its very comfortable. The sleeves, however, are a little short when hands are holding on to the handle bars; this is no problem. I'm used to this as I have some long arms. So that may not be an issue for others. Overall, I would highly recommend this jacket to others.

I wear a size 54 Tall athletic cut suit. my fit issue is chest, not belly. Everything I tried would not fit my chest. This jacket does and seems to do what it sats. We had a day that reached 80 while I was riding, took out rain liner and air flow made it very comfortable. A good value overall.

This was the first (and only) jacket I have purchased so far. I'm pretty new to riding, so the price was a big factor for me. I've had the jacket for about 2 years and it has held up exceptionally well.
I bought black, but I wish I hadn't. Sitting in the Florida sun in traffic is brutal. Once you are moving, even at 20 mph, you get excellent air flow. After riding for a couple of years, I'm more concerned with being seen, so if I could go back, I would have chosen either silver or hi-viz.
I only have two complaints about this jacket.
First is that it is a bit loose or baggy. With the liner in, it isn't so bad, but it still is really loos in the arms. Admittedly, I have lost about 15 lbs since I bought this jacket. I am 165 lbs, 5' 9", 40 inch chest. All of my other non-bike jackets and shirts are Medium. The jacket just feels a bit too loose for me.
Second, and this is pretty minor, is the elbow pads. They seem to get caught on things. If I put on a backpack, I am always fighting the strap to get it around the elbow pads. This is probably because of the loose fit. They feel bulky and loose. I would hate for that pad to slide around if I ever go down.
Overall, the price is hard to beat and the air flow is excellent. It is easy to clean the bugs off and I've never had any quality issues (tearing, stitching, etc).

Summer ventilation is great. I use the jacket year round for all my local rides...market, post office, hardware store, etc. I use the liner when needed (Northern California). Takes about 90 seconds to put in liner after some practice. For my long distance (multi-day) rides I use a full featured gore-tex touring jacket as it doubles as a rainsuit if needed. For the frequent local or day rides this is my grab-and-go jacket. Pockets have zippers and there are enough pockets to carry essentials. I got the silver color so I would be more visible on the road, and cooler in the summer. Nice style, and the price IMO matches the quality of the jacket. Very satisfied and no complaints.

Jacket sleeves are way too loose and protection pads will not stay in place...no way to tighten. Cuffs are also too loose and will not tighten. Body too big. I am 5'9 weighing 130 lbs and a small is way too big.

Have used this jacket in temperatures up to 35C; good airflow (as long as you're moving!) . The jacket seems to be well made. With the liner in, and with additional layers, the jacket is still good for cooler days, say down to 15C or so. I bought my appropriate size and the fit is good. Highly recommended!

On the product page it mentioned that a CE rated back protector could be added to replace the foam pad that comes with the jacket. I have a size medium and love the fit, but would like to upgrade the protection. Thanks

Answer:
The size and shape of the EVA foam back protector found in the Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket is a very specific long thin shape that does not accommodate the majority of aftermarket back protectors. When checking Firstgear manufacturer specifications, I was not able to locate any specifics for upgradeable protectors. For added spine protection, you can wear a separate back protector such as the Teknic Speedstar Spine Guard or the Joe Rocket Speedmaster Back Protector.

Looking at the charts, I guess I'm either a "large Medium" or a "small Large" -- what do you recommend in terms of size selection? Also, I notice there are no straps or snaps to adjust the snugness of the arms; I have average to thin arms for my size, so wonder if there'd be trouble keeping the armor in the right place? Same questions apply to all Firstgear jackets, I guess...

Answer:
I normally wear a Large jacket (like my Joe Rocket), but found the medium was a good fit with this particular Firstgear model. I am more of a barrel shape, so I was really surprised when I slipped into the medium. I hope to not find out how well the armor stays in place during a crash, the jacket is a lot more flexible than a textile or leather jacket, but during regular riding, everything sits nicely in place.

Answer:
This Firstgear jacket has a standard fit. If you normally wear a medium, purchase a medium. If you normally get a large, then get the large. As far as the armor goes, I have never experienced any problem with the armor not staying in place. It is an excellent jacket, and with the liner in place, is comfortable down to the low 60's with just a shirt on underneath. It is great during the warmer months and allows plenty of air in to cool your body.

If this does not answer your question about size, I would recommend that you by the medium size jacket since you are a large medium.
