Fieldsheer Adventure Tour Pants 3.9 5 8 8
You get what you pay for Bought these pants for a long road trip around Europe. Long story short, I regret buying these pants. Durability is sub par. It took under 3 months for things to start breaking apart. First the stitching around the zipper came undone. Then shortly after the belt loop's stitching came undone. I just sent it back for repairs. Getting a hold of fieldsheer is a pain. I wound up just going on their Facebook page and posted it publicly. The styling of the pant is ok. Bulky material and when you walk, you can hear the fabric brush up together between the legs. The water resistance wears off quickly as well. It looks like it's just scotch guard. Overall I do not recommend. Low quality materials being used. I'm sure the stitching craftsmanship is fine but the materials used are sub par. It's literally coming apart at the seams January 31, 2016
Not overly high quality. Comfortable and water proof Lost a button the first day, but it comes with an extra sack of them if you like to sew. The armor isn't very protective but is removable if you want to upgrade. The side zippers work well as long as you are diligent. The waterproofing is done with the inner liner. I use theses as overpants and they are nice and snug. December 14, 2015
These pants have good adjustability these pants are able to accommodate people of varying waist sizes very easily. They are amazingly warm as well. September 14, 2015
Failed my expectations We just finished our first longer ride in those pants (1,800 miles). The pants are very comfortable. There is no hip protection so that's a big con. Also, the pants are described as waterproof. However, once you remove the inner layer these pants are not water proof. I am not sure what the logic behind it was. The crotch area is made from some elastic material that leaks water pretty fast. So our legs were all wet, water got into our shoes, etc. It was not pleasant. That's why I would not recommend these pants. For colder whether when it's get cold and you need to wear the inner layer then I guess those pants will work fine. July 9, 2015
Excellent Adventure Touring/Commuter Pants Had these pants for six months. I wear 32W/30L in my jean size and I ordered corresponding size off their size chart..perfect. I normally wear just a base layer underneath-much more comfortable....they work as an overpant...but a little snug over jeans.... (but that's why I like Fieldsheer.....you don't look like a doughboy in most of their pants) So I can wear these with just a base layer – and go inside and have lunch and don't look like I've just been snowboarding! I ride every day. Commuting ....but adventure on weekends. I recently did a 3000 mi adventure trip and purchased these pants for the trip. Temps ranged from 30 to 85 (Utah in April) and these were great. Rugged, comfortable material, nice high quality liner that kept me warm and dry. Fit is typical Fieldsheer (true to size, but trim, not baggy (w/out liner ..which I seldom use) Nice style, multiple velcro adjustments and full length leg zips very convenient. Only gripes are leg zips catch on backing alot and the hip pads need an attachment at the bottom...they constantly shift so you end up sitting on them. No venting (so no H2O leaks :) but these are not a summer pant. Xlnt 3 season that could work in summer but above 85 would get warm. But anytime I need airflow I just loosen the velcro cuff around my boot and open the leg zip up at my hip- and I get all the airflow I need. I open them up even more when I stop for lunch or setting up camp...whatever....and my legs stay relatively cool- very flexible. Excellent all around pant....little pricey but you get what you pay for IMO....xlnt quality/comfort/style. (Only reason I gave the four for comfort is because of the hip pads issue- when you sit on them your butt gets a little sore (but you just move them out-of-the-way and it's fine) –solved leg zips getting caught issue with a cool iron and starch-but do that at own risk-don't melt your pants!) Highly recommend. June 4, 2015
They Are Overpants, Right? Haven't gotten to test these but I did want to comment on size. I'm 5'6" with a 29"ish waist and 29"/30" inseam. With boots on the size Small fits perfectly. The crotch isn't sagging, but the rear has a bit of drag, thankfully not enough to give me "diaper-butt" (it's heavier fabric on the seat and is covered with a standard riding jacket). They do have a bit of "puff" to them in that my legs feel about 12" bigger when I'm wearing them, but they feel fine worn over street pants. I do like the full length leg zippers, and discovered today that I can vent from the top by lowering the upper zipper down several inches, thus giving access to street pants pockets and getting some air into my hip area... This would probably also allow a space for warmer air down the leg to rise and escape. I'd say the Small would be good for anyone 5'5"-5'8" (maybe 5'9" with tall boots so you don't get any gap between cuff and top of boot), and up to a 32" waist. I have to really feed slack into the hip adjusters when I take them on and off, which only takes half-a-second, but I bet a longer front zipper would have mitigated this. Anyway, solid build, got the fit just right by adjusting the kneepads, and the labeling isn't ostentatious. I'll update once I clock some road miles with them. September 17, 2014
Comfortable and seems to be well made I like the fit and finish of the pants but it seems to lack airflow vents. I live in so cal and it gets hot will be great for winter riding July 28, 2014
Good fall, winter, spring riding pants I originally was looking at a different pair of all year riding pants but they were out of stock with no estimated time of replenishment. I went with these because they offer a similar level of protection and roughly the same price as the other pants. First and foremost, I am very confident that I would be protected if I went down. The adjustable knee armor rests very nicely over my knee in the riding position and when you find the sweet spot to adjust it to you forget that the armor is there. The hip pads were very weak however; they were nothing more than a 1/4 inch piece of foam. But I was already planning on upgrading to the Klim hip pads before I even ordered the pants. The new hip pads fit nicely into the pants and didn't require any cutting or resizing. They do seem to rest a little low for my taste, more like thigh pads as opposed to hip pads. The textile fabric used throughout the pants seem very durable and I have no issues with them not protecting me in a fall. As far as comfort is concerned, these pants are nice once you get them on. I commonly find that after a nice hard ride when I get home and start to take my gear off, I end up kind of lounging around in the pants because they are that comfortable. The zippers tend to catch quite a lot when I'm taking them on and off however which can be slightly irritating. I've been caught in the rain a few times and even without the waterproof liner in, my legs and phone in the front zippered pocket were completely dry, If you take the liner out, you can pretty easily fit a pair of pants underneath them. Since I'm on the topic, the liner is very, very warm. These pants can easily hold up to harsh winter mornings even at highway speeds. My biggest complaint with these pants is the complete absence of venting. These pants get very warm to the point of uncomfortably distracting at temps as low as 85. Summers here in Maryland are regularly in the mid to upper 90's which will make wearing these pants too unbearable for a quarter of the year. Overall, a very nice pair of 3 season (fall, winter, spring) riding pants. Once you upgrade the hip pads, the armor is very reassuring and the pants are comfortable to wear for long periods of time. But you will most certainly wish for more venting once the thermometer starts to rise. June 10, 2014
