Great helmet for the price Can't go wrong with this helmet. If you want a helmet that will look good and keep you safe, without having to take out a second mortgage on the house, than this helmet is for you. With that said, there are only two minor issues that I have come across that aren't really flaws but personal preference. First, wind noise is a little loud especially at highway speeds, but it is not exactly unbearable either. Second is that the air vents are pretty much unnoticeable when they are closed or open. Despite these two issues, I would definitely buy this helmet again. October 21, 2015
Pretty standard price, above average helmet A great helmet for the price. Kinda blown away this price point is double endorsed, which is why I took it in the first place. The graphics are awesome and I like the amalgamation of modern shape and aerodynamics with retro styling. Airflow is good enough to keep you sweating only moderately in hot days and none in temperate days. Cold days see the vents closed, which makes a bit of a differences, just enough to be appreciated. Vent controls are a bit difficult to manage with gloves on, but at least they work when you get a hold of them. Field of view is average, as is the weight and the strap. Liner is tight on the cheeks but is loosening up with time, as with most helmets. Remember, if you have a big head like me, go with the bigger helmet chassis, and order an XL or XXL (thinner liner). Looking for a bad@$$ helmet? Look no furhter! This helmet is awesome. The graphics are unique and reminiscent of the WW2 flying tiger theme. The helmet fits comfortably with great airflow during the south Florida summers. It's a tad noisy but not a deal breaker by any means. I also equipped it with bluetooth speakers which have integrated pockets inside which made it a breeze! For a sub $200 helmet you receive a DOT and SNELL certified helmet so you're ready for the track. November 5, 2015
Sharp I was worried this was a gloss finish, but it's matte and it looks AWESOME. I was getting looks riding through the neighborhood, more so than usual. Fit is true to size but does feel a bit tight right now after only wearing it once but I'm confident it will break in like other reviewers have noted. Not as much flow as my Dual Sport helmet, but that's to be expected. As for noise, this thing is a dream compared to my Fly Trekker DS. Vision is also much better. The quick change visor feature is a nice perk too. October 23, 2015
Best first or passenger helmet In my humble, beginner rider's opinion, Bell knocks this one out of the park with the Vortex. I looked around, and this guy seemed to be the "just right" in a sea of "I guess that's okay" and "I don't need all that yet." With the additional Snell rating, I feel very safe with my helmet and I'm sure it'll hold up in an emergency. As of now, I haven't had the need to test it out first hand *knock on wood.* As for the fitment, it is an intermediate-oval shape with replaceable cheek pads. I strongly recommend going to a local stealership to try on various helmet shapes before buying online. It'll save you a big headache. The features of this helmet are about as standard as they come, but that's not a bad thing. The vents vent and the shield clicks into place with assertiveness. The helmet does not have the shield lock you see on the RS-1 or Star, but that's to be expected as this is not really the helmet you'd want to take to the track on a regular basis. If this were everything about the helmet, it wouldn't stand out to me in the slightest. Luckily, that is not the case. What makes the Vortex stand out is not about this specific helmet at all. All of Bell's helmets of this style use the same face shield and super easy-to-use shield swap system. This makes so much of a difference because any additional shields purchased (like the Transitions shield) will fit into another Bell helmet. So when it comes time to upgrade to a Vortex to an RS-1 or Star, all of your shields come with you. October 5, 2015
Wife Approved Finally got my wife to agree to ride with me, and we needed to get some gear for her. Aside from a $500 Shoei she really liked while trying some on in a store (can't fault her for liking that one more!) this was a great second choice since she didn't want me spending that much on a helmet for her. Nevertheless, she really likes the matte black color, and had no complaints about weight, noise or anything else. Will probably pick up a bluetooth set for her helmet as well so we can talk while riding. Anything that gets your wife/girl to ride with you gets my recommendation. October 5, 2015
Loud, Excellent Protection. Crash Tested Helmet is loud, you will get a lot of wind noise on the highway. If your going out on long sustained high-speed rides be prepared to pop in some earplugs or lose some hearing. Ok, other than that its an excellent helmet. Airflow is great, I used it through a central Alabama summer and it was just fine. I have crash tested it and would say the protection is excellent. I high sided at around 60mph, give or take 10mph, and landed on my head and shoulder. No concussion and no doubt in my mind that the helmet worked. I ordered another one despite the noise for that reason alone. If you don't have a lot to spend on a helmet, want maximum protection, and can deal with the extra noise, this helmet is an excellent choice. September 28, 2015
I bought this helmet because it matched my car Perfectly The helmet is ok, you get what you pay for. It's a little loud but other than that quite solid. September 24, 2015

Mark B: No one else had this helmet it locally. Much appreciated, color and shape was wife approved! Sep 11, 2014
Kevin w: I love the classic look, quality behind the brand, and many ventilation options. Like others have said its a little loud on the highway but for the price point I believe its the best you can get. Go ahead and grab a 600$ helmet if you can afford it and you will get less volume at high speeds but if you don't have the funds you will still enjoy the vortex :) Sep 8, 2014
Christian A: Love the look and had great reviews. My wife says it's comfortable and quit. The ventilation is good too. Sep 2, 2014
Brandon G: I was going to buy a SHOEI GT air but for the money this is a perfect helmet. I couldnt justify the money for the SHOEI for the amount of time i ride. Aug 20, 2014
Michael L: awesome looks, good price Aug 19, 2014
Grayson W: Classic slick look. Great bang for your buck even though tis a little noisy. Good first helmet Aug 18, 2014
Lori M: Read the standards and safety good price for a safe comfortable helmet Jul 21, 2014
Anthony B: Needed a good everyday commuter helmet. Chose the vortex Rally for its classic styling, great price, and because it has everything I need and nothing I don't. Will wear the RS-1 for more spirited jaunts but for headed to work I think the Vortex will be ideal. Jul 10, 2014
Mark W: Just received this today. Love the fit and the look. My bike is shipping next week so I can't say much else about it yet. Revzilla is awesome though. Jun 27, 2014
Andrew M: Loved the styling and trusted bells safety Jun 19, 2014
Regan D: Needed a helmet for my upcoming MSF course & first motorcycle purchase. The Shoei GT AIR & RF1200 fit me perfectly but were a bit pricey for my first helmet. Even tho I haven't tried on the Vortex yet, from what I've read, it'll probably fit my intermediate oval head. So i thought it was worth the gamble. Plus I can always return it to Revzilla & trade up for the Shoei if it doesn't fit. But I hope it does cause I love the classic looks, and price. Not expensive, but not cheap either. Jun 2, 2014
Michael P: Timeless May 27, 2014
Jonathan E: Snell Rated for the price
Video segments decribing intermediate head shape helped me pick this helmet over the HLC FG-17 which was described as round face shape. Thanks Revzilla for those!
May 23, 2014
Joshua F: Needed a street helmet for commuting purposes and needed something not too pricey and with good ventilation since I live in a warm weather environment. The rally graphic seemed to be a good choice style wise. Snell certification was a plus as well. May 20, 2014
Ryan S: Snell 2010 rating is an absolute must have, correct size/fit type and awesomely classic style. Fantastic! Apr 17, 2014
Daniel B: 1. SNELL

Thomas W: Yup. Clear shield, mine had the button strap (not magnetic). Awesome product, highly recommend. Some users say the Vortex is loud, I think it's fine, but since it's my first lid I don't have anything to compare it to. Apr 12, 2014

Daniel B: Hey bro, gimme a chance to get home and get my measuring tape out and double check which size I purchased. In the meantime, I can give for some other more esoteric info regarding this helmet.

The first thing is that I love it on several different levels.
I wanted a real helmet that would actually protect my second most valuable asset and fit the image my bike and jacket suggest. Check and check.

Another factor was the shape of my head coupled with the fact that I wear a ginormous pair of Maui Jim - 9 Palms glasses with prescription lens. So the helmet needs to be snug, but I also near to slide these glasses on once the helmet is on. Check and check.

The helmet fits the shape of my head (oval). This is important as my wife is Japanese. Her freakin' head is a totally different shape (round) from what I perceived as normal. Until I learned how many Asians actually make up the total global market. Now, I can't image how she can see the shape of my head as anything other then Geiger's Alien.

The sizing videos on Revzilla are great at describing this phenomenon. My head so closely matched the Oval head model's that I knew this helmet would fit fine. Because of Revzilla's return policy, I considered purchasing two different sizes and returning the one that didn't fit. But the sizing tutorials gave me the confident to take a leap of faith and just order the one. Bingo!

fernando l: The holes or cutaways for the ears are pretty generous all helment designed bluetooth speakers should acomodate most sena's clamp from the side of the helmet and there is enough space besides the interior is removable so putting speakers is just a matter of reading manufactures instructions and a little ingenuity. I installed some sena H10 in less than 20 minutes battery life is okey and the sound is not super high def but solid hope i helped May 29, 2014

Joshua F: There are MANY options to choose from. I personally use a scala q3 on mine and it works great. The helmet does have a non removable collar around the bottom opening that leaves an unavoidable bit of wire exposed for the speakers but it doesn't get in the way. Other than that the setup looks great. This helmet also features ear hole cutouts under the pads making speaker placement much easier. May 29, 2014

Brenden E asked: I'm just getting into motorcycles do you think this is a good starter helmet? Oct 28, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Sean V: I've had this helmet for a year or so now, and I really like it. It's comfortable, even on very hot days here in NC. The vents work well to create airflow. The visor opens a crack to let in air. And I have not had trouble with fogging.

The only downsides I have discovered are that (1) the helmet is very large, which sometimes makes me feel like a bobblehead, and (2) the helmet is not particularly aerodynamic. At highway speeds over 70 mph, the airflow yanks my head up and around quite a bit, and it's difficult to turn my head. Leaning into a tucked position doesn't seem to matter.

Good call on the full face helmet. Protect your melon.
