RevZilla's Opinion of the The Bell Vortex Helmet

The Bell Vortex Helmet has grown to be one of the top selling and more ubiquitous ~$200 sport helmets in the RevZilla family. The light weight, Snell Rating and ability to use the Bell Photochromic shield allow the Bell Vortex Helmet to cover a lot of the bases the typical sport or track day rider is looking for in a reasonably priced helmet. Many times we see this type of functionality only available in helmets over the $300 mark. In the 3/4 or tuck position the Bell Vortex Helmet will provide a great solution in just about any spirited or sport riding scenario. If you find a graphic or color that suits your taste and you have an intermediate oval head shape, the Bell Vortex is a great option.

all around great helmet It's easy to take apart and clean or replace parts gets great airflow on the freeway or the street minimal noise amazing graphics in my opinion. The fit is on point for a round/oval shaped head. I ride a 2006 zx6r which can be pretty loud at high rpms and this helmet blocks out majority of the engine noise as well as wind noise leaving enough sound for me to hear my shift points clearly and for the price you can't beat this helmet. Super unique and nicely priced! I work in the aviation industry, and so when I realized Bell made a Vortex that paid tribute to the P-40 and the Flying Tigers, you bet your butt I snatched it right up. I wear a 7 1/8" fitted ball cap and went with the helmet size Medium. It's a perfect, snug fit. Styling wise, I wish the shape of the helmet was a bit more aggressive, but the more aggressive models like the Qualifier begin moving up in price. Again, the Flying Tigers theme and price point is what really sold me on the helmet. With the face shield closed, wind noise isn't too terrible. I don't need to wear ear plugs and my ears are not ringing or anything when I get off the bike. It's quite tolerable. Air flow is pretty great.. I don't really sweat much inside the helmet. The one feature the helmet lacks that would just make it a 100% winner in my book, is a retractable sun visor. You only get the clear face shield with the helmet, so be prepared to drop a bit more cash in order to get the sunlight protection and enhanced styling that you'll want. I went with the Dark Iridium Silver face shield, and I keep the clear one in my pack should I encounter a night ride. The artwork definitely turns heads and gets me compliments! June 15, 2015
Very comfortable Helmet is very comfortable. Purchased it and wore it to MSF class, which was about 8 hours every day for 3 days. No complaints on comfort, however, when it rained the visor did fog slightly. Wasn't a big deal and it didn't really affect vision. Overall, a great helmet for the price. June 15, 2015
Size chart spot on for Crown size. The helmet is everything that I was looking for in a helmet, with a few side notes. For $150 you can't beat a snell rating. The sizing chart was spot on for the crown, however the 50mm cheek pads were very snug to the point of discomfort. I have an average jawline(not too narrow but not square)and even after wearing it to break it in, it still bothered me. On the plus side, the cheek pads are replaceable and I went with 40 mm cheeks. Fits like a glove now. If you buy this properly sized to your head, sunglasses may be too uncomfortable for also wear, so do yourself a favor and buy the transition face shield. The auto-tinting in full sun matches my Oakley SI dark smoke sunglasses quite closely with similar clarity(atleast as far as my eyes can tell. June 15, 2015
Not bad Does what it needs to do, no frills but not bad! Good price. June 15, 2015
Great sub-$200 SNELL helmet The online images do not do this helmet justice. I was a little hesitant at first because the graphic looked too cartoonish online. I read some reviews, and others had said the same thing; that the online pictures don't do justice. So I gave it a shot, and I'm glad I did. The details and colors in this graphic are sick. Besides the cosmetics, this helmet has an overall great quality for a sub-$200 SNELL certified helmet. The fit is snug but still remains comfortable. The cheek pads seem a bit tight, but I'll wait to change them after a few more wears, and I've broken it in a bit more. The road/wind noise seems about average, but I also think it depends on your riding position and angle of the helmet. My only complaint right now is that at highway speeds (65mph+), the wind pulls on the helmet quite aggressively. Overall, I highly recommend this Bell helmet if you're looking for a cool graphic, SNELL certified, and sub-$200. May 31, 2015
Incredibly designed helmet! After going to Pearl Harbor earlier this year, I got obsessed with the WWII Flying Tiger planes, and this helmet really does it justice. As a graphic designer, I can assure you that as good as the photos look, the actual helmet looks even better! The graphics are incredibly detailed, and even the matte-finished color makes it look like it's from the 1940s! And to make it even more versatile, I paired it with the Bell Transitions Photochromic Shield... definitely worth the extra money. May 27, 2015
Good Helmet This is a good helmet. I live where the weather is usually warm so airflow is necessary. This helmet has great flow. Fit is as expected. Comfortable fit. Visibility is good. All in all a great product. Product arrived in perfect condition. May 25, 2015

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Todd J: Duh, just look at it... and I'm a believer in bell. Apr 19, 2015
megan w: I like the sleek contours of the helmet and the flip up visor. I wanted a helmet with a design, but not too ornate. I like that the liner is antimicrobial, detachable and washable. The anti-fog, anti-scratch and UV protected shield was a good selling point as well. If the helmet fits well with my glasses I'm thinking of getting the transition shield. Apr 14, 2015

Chi-Ho L asked: Anthony mentioned in the Monarch video that the pinstripes are reflective. Does he mean that it is actually reflective at night? Oct 17, 2013

Richard B: We had to take a look at it at night before answering. My husband doesn't think it is very "reflective". The pinstripes are small and the glitter seems more reflective, but not really at night. I wouldn't rely on that. It is a beautiful helmet and the fit is snug. Very comfortable. I love it! Kirk P: I havn't checked the reflectivity of the helmet in the dark, but I believe that Anthony was referring to some glitter applied along the pin striping. Again, I am not sure about any reflectivity for safety's sake, but the helmet looks great! Oct 19, 2013

Reid H: It is not reflective at night. There's inlaid 'glitter' on either side of the white pinstripes, but they are definitely not reflective at night --I just tested it out in the garage with only a flashlight and nothing. By the way, it's my wife's helmet, kind of a cool touch perhaps, I guess it's a chick thing. Hope this helps. Oct 21, 2013
