Pretty standard price, above average helmet A great helmet for the price. Kinda blown away this price point is double endorsed, which is why I took it in the first place. The graphics are awesome and I like the amalgamation of modern shape and aerodynamics with retro styling. Airflow is good enough to keep you sweating only moderately in hot days and none in temperate days. Cold days see the vents closed, which makes a bit of a differences, just enough to be appreciated. Vent controls are a bit difficult to manage with gloves on, but at least they work when you get a hold of them. Field of view is average, as is the weight and the strap. Liner is tight on the cheeks but is loosening up with time, as with most helmets. Remember, if you have a big head like me, go with the bigger helmet chassis, and order an XL or XXL (thinner liner). Looking for a bad@$$ helmet? Look no furhter! This helmet is awesome. The graphics are unique and reminiscent of the WW2 flying tiger theme. The helmet fits comfortably with great airflow during the south Florida summers. It's a tad noisy but not a deal breaker by any means. I also equipped it with bluetooth speakers which have integrated pockets inside which made it a breeze! For a sub $200 helmet you receive a DOT and SNELL certified helmet so you're ready for the track. November 5, 2015
Sharp I was worried this was a gloss finish, but it's matte and it looks AWESOME. I was getting looks riding through the neighborhood, more so than usual. Fit is true to size but does feel a bit tight right now after only wearing it once but I'm confident it will break in like other reviewers have noted. Not as much flow as my Dual Sport helmet, but that's to be expected. As for noise, this thing is a dream compared to my Fly Trekker DS. Vision is also much better. The quick change visor feature is a nice perk too. October 23, 2015
Great helmet for the price Can't go wrong with this helmet. If you want a helmet that will look good and keep you safe, without having to take out a second mortgage on the house, than this helmet is for you. With that said, there are only two minor issues that I have come across that aren't really flaws but personal preference. First, wind noise is a little loud especially at highway speeds, but it is not exactly unbearable either. Second is that the air vents are pretty much unnoticeable when they are closed or open. Despite these two issues, I would definitely buy this helmet again. October 21, 2015
Great buy for the money. After getting my first bike, I wanted something great for good value, and this helmet delivers. Fit is great and graphics are just as cool and catches people's eye (hard to miss). Airflow is awesome, living on the gulf coast it's pretty regular to have 100+ degree days; with this helmet your head doesn't get hot.. great price and great helmet.. August 31, 2015
Best first or passenger helmet In my humble, beginner rider's opinion, Bell knocks this one out of the park with the Vortex. I looked around, and this guy seemed to be the "just right" in a sea of "I guess that's okay" and "I don't need all that yet." With the additional Snell rating, I feel very safe with my helmet and I'm sure it'll hold up in an emergency. As of now, I haven't had the need to test it out first hand *knock on wood.* As for the fitment, it is an intermediate-oval shape with replaceable cheek pads. I strongly recommend going to a local stealership to try on various helmet shapes before buying online. It'll save you a big headache. The features of this helmet are about as standard as they come, but that's not a bad thing. The vents vent and the shield clicks into place with assertiveness. The helmet does not have the shield lock you see on the RS-1 or Star, but that's to be expected as this is not really the helmet you'd want to take to the track on a regular basis. If this were everything about the helmet, it wouldn't stand out to me in the slightest. Luckily, that is not the case. What makes the Vortex stand out is not about this specific helmet at all. All of Bell's helmets of this style use the same face shield and super easy-to-use shield swap system. This makes so much of a difference because any additional shields purchased (like the Transitions shield) will fit into another Bell helmet. So when it comes time to upgrade to a Vortex to an RS-1 or Star, all of your shields come with you. October 5, 2015
Wife Approved Finally got my wife to agree to ride with me, and we needed to get some gear for her. Aside from a $500 Shoei she really liked while trying some on in a store (can't fault her for liking that one more!) this was a great second choice since she didn't want me spending that much on a helmet for her. Nevertheless, she really likes the matte black color, and had no complaints about weight, noise or anything else. Will probably pick up a bluetooth set for her helmet as well so we can talk while riding. Anything that gets your wife/girl to ride with you gets my recommendation. October 5, 2015
Loud, Excellent Protection. Crash Tested Helmet is loud, you will get a lot of wind noise on the highway. If your going out on long sustained high-speed rides be prepared to pop in some earplugs or lose some hearing. Ok, other than that its an excellent helmet. Airflow is great, I used it through a central Alabama summer and it was just fine. I have crash tested it and would say the protection is excellent. I high sided at around 60mph, give or take 10mph, and landed on my head and shoulder. No concussion and no doubt in my mind that the helmet worked. I ordered another one despite the noise for that reason alone. If you don't have a lot to spend on a helmet, want maximum protection, and can deal with the extra noise, this helmet is an excellent choice. September 28, 2015

Paul V: I love the look of this helmet! It doesn't come with the shaded screen which is a little misleading but luckily I watched the video wish explained that before I purchased. Prob would have been pretty frustrated if it just arrived that way. Of course that's not revzillas fault that's just the pic bell gave I guess. My bike is yellow and this is an exact match! I love the other fetures as well. Bells quick release is the best out there! I'll write a full review after it arrives! That's revzilla! Jul 11, 2014
Benito M: After looking through many of the helmets that were offered in this line by Bell, I found it to be the most visually intriguing and interesting out of them all. Jun 2, 2014
Eric N: Wanted a hi-viz helmet with plenty of features, good graphics, and solid rider reviews. The gear review also spoke very well of this helmet, Anthony's "Tron meets Darth Maul" may have subconsciously committed me to buying this helmet too, ha. Considering price and performance it seemed like a great selection. Apr 27, 2014
Steve B: Bell Vortex is a good helmet for it's cost, the last Bell I had was a Tourstar, great helmet . Apr 26, 2014
Breck R: The high viz seems a good safety feature. The design is 2014 design, and polycarbonate deteriorates slower than any other material. Mar 20, 2014
A shopper asked: can glasses be worn with the shield closed ? Jan 17, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Adrian C: I'm assuming that your wondering if your glasses will fit comfortably. The answer would be yes. If you buy the correct size helmet your glasses should have a nice snug and they shouldn't move around. As far as your glasses fogging up it shouldn't be a problem. The ventilation on this helmet is very good and unless your at a stand still for to long it shouldn't be an issue. Also if you happen to buy a dark shield bell makes a very nice tint which isn't pitch black so you should have good visibility while wearing glasses. I hope my feedback was helpful. Jan 18, 2015

Mark S: Glasses or sun glasses are no issue. Like most helmets, helmet goes on first, then glasses. You have to "thread" the ear pieces in past the phone. I routinely wear sun glasses. Jan 17, 2015

Neal F: Yes if you do it in the following order.
1. Take off your glasses
2. Put Helmet on
3. Open face shield
4. Put glasses on

A shopper asked: Does this have room for speakers inside for my Bluetooth communicator? Apr 20, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Mark H: I have the Sena SMH10 and it works fine,, although the only thing inside are the speakers. The main unit has two methods of attachment and either one will work with the helmet. I prefer the clamp method because it seems more secure. Apr 21, 2015

Matthew J: The helmet does come with pockets for speakers. I've install the Sena S20 in mine. Only downside is there isn't a way to run the wires under the neck roll. Apr 21, 2015

A shopper asked: Does this helmet come with the dark and clear shield? May 25, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Adrian C: Unfortunately it only comes with the clear shield. I don't know of any helmet brands that come with a dark shield. You always have to purchase colored shields separately. Most colored shields should range in price from 30 to 70 dollars. Hope you find a good deal. May 28, 2014
Reply to Adrian Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Gary J: The helmet comes with the clear visor as standard. if you want the tinted visors, then you need to order them separately. They are very very easy, and quick, to change over, though. May 27, 2014

Breck R: No, you need to purchase the dark shield separately. It is worth it though if you live in places like California. May 27, 2014

A shopper asked: Is the Hi-Viz yellow on this helmet reflective like the Bell Qualifier Hi-Viz Rally (and most street signs) or is it just neon yellow? Apr 19, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Adrian C: I think that the yellow on the helmet is basically a neon color. I don't think that's it's very reflective. What I can tell you is that the helmet really stands out. I go into work at 6:00 in the morning. So the sunlight is barely coming out. A friend of mine who drives to work often sees me on the freeway and makes fun of being able to see me about a mile away. And he's not being sarcastic, he says that he can really see the helmet from a good distance. I hope my answer was helpful. Apr 19, 2014
Reply to Adrian Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Brian C: It's neon. It doesn't have the reflective characteristics you're talking about from when light hits it at different angles. It's just brightly colored. Apr 24, 2014
Reply to Brian Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Gary J: It's not reflective, but it is a lot more hi-vis than appears on the pictures. Apr 19, 2014

A S asked: I'm new to riding and unsure of which helmet to buy. My head measures at 56.5 cm. Small is 55-56 while Medium is 57-58. Which helmet do you recommend? Nov 9, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Adrian C: A if you are a newbie my advise to you is to go to a nearby dealer and try on different helmets before you order anything online. Regardless of your head measurement I would suggest that you buy a helmet that fits very snug on your cheeks and forehead. I see to many riders that buy helmets that are to loose. If you ride constantly a helmet will always break in and mold to the shape of your head. Also if you become a dedicated rider you will find that the more aggressive that your riding becomes the more you will need a stable helmet. Since you are new to riding make sure that you go with a full face. And remember that I said SNUG not TIGHT!!! Best of luck I hope my tips were helpful. Nov 13, 2015

Richard H: According to the size chart, I was at the upper limit of the medium helmet. I ended up with the large. Nov 11, 2015

David C asked: My head size is 58 cm. Should I get a medium or large? Feb 2, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Richard H: I measure just over 58 cm and I wear a large. As I searched for the right helmet, I found that shape mattered as much a sizing. Helmets ranged from almost round to very oblong. The Bell is a mid-oval shape. Feb 5, 2015
Reply to Richard Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
David C: Yeah, I was worried about the shape; but the medium fits just like my Arai that was made for oval. I agree, shape and sizing have to be worked out together. Thanks. Feb 9, 2015
Jose Pablo M: Hi David.

I had exactly the same problem as you, I'm 58.0 cms, so I fall right between a medium and a large. I went for the large, unfortunately it proved wrong.

Go for the medium, at first it's going to be a bit tight but after a couple of days of continuous riding it's going to fit perfect.

A tip, medium and large sizes on the bell vortex are exactly the same shell size, so if you find that it's too tight, you can replace the linner and/or cheek pads with the large size and have a perfect fit.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

David C: Thanks. I did exactly the same thing as you, bought a large and then returned it for a medium. Perfect fit now, and very happy with the helmet. Feb 9, 2015
A shopper asked: I am after the best helmet i can find, for under $400. This helmet seems good, but i have a question about shape (not size): What shape is it? I require a long oval shape, sadly none of the manufacturers list what shape each helmet is. Its arguably more important than circumference. May 8, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
William J: I am also a long oval. Going by the size chart I was at the upper range for large but had to send it back for an XL. I find it to be comfy and am very pleased with the fit. You will be hard pressed to find a SNELL/DOT rated lid at this price. The Arai would be my choice but at $570 or so I say Bell Vortex all the way & put the rest in the tank or accessorize the bike. Anthony's review states this is an intermediate oval......Revzilla Rocks May 14, 2014
Reply to William Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Steve B: This Helmet is a Long to intermediate oval, just make sure you follow the size chart for this helmet . RevZilla can help you with this . I'm happy with this helmet . my last Bell was a TourStar ,the Vortex is lightyears ahead of the TourStar. riding at 75 mph with 30 mph winds .The Vortex did great ! low noise ,and my head didn't bob around. A shopper asked: I have a 2006 Black and Yellow R1. Is this helmet's yellow close to that kind of yellow or is it more of the florescent yellow/green color? I ordered a Bell Hi-Vis Rally Adult Qualifier Full Face Motorcycle Helmet - Black/Silver/Yellow and the color was not very "yellow". Thanks Feb 21, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Breck R: This helmet has a greenish/yellow similar to an 80's style neon yellow. Hi-viz tends to be this color as a standard on most hi-viz products. If you want to go more yellow check out the Bell R-1 airtrix speedway helmet. Mar 23, 2014
