Bell Vortex Flack Helmet

The Bell Vortex is every bit the helmet you’d expect of the Star’s little brother. Developed in Bell’s state-of-the-art Santa Cruz, Calif. design center, the Vortex borrows heavily from the Star, using its Velocity Flow Ventilation with FlowAdjust for amazing ventilation and temperature control, as well as ClickRelease— the reigning world champ in shield ease-of-use. The lightweight polycarbonate shell is molded into a stable, wind cutting shape, and comfort is in no short supply with contoured cheek pads and a plush removable comfort liner. Finish it off with a noise reducing wind collar and integrated speaker pockets and you have a complete package at a killer price.

Awesome!... but WOW it's LOUD! So first off my head circumference measurement is 23 1/2 inches. According to the size chart 1/4in too big for a L and 1/8in too small for an XL. So I ordered both and the L fit perfectly, it's very comfortable, sent the XL back of course. Secondly, for $180 this thing looks fantastic, heck even if it was $400 it would look fantastic. This helmet is very high quality, the shield mechanism as mentioned in the video is phenomenal; makes you wonder why other helmets have such complicated systems. Ventilation is another major plus, flows lots of air. The only bad thing that comes to mind is that it is ridiculously loud, like borderline unbearably loud. **WITHOUT EAR PLUGS** However if you wear earplugs, like I do, you'll be fine. And finally, bottom line if you want a comfortable, quality built, SAFE (Don't forget this thing is Snell 2010), good looking helmet for a GREAT price... don't hesitate buy it, buy it now. Also, pick up the transitions shield it works really well. October 10, 2014
Great helmet for the price I purchased this helmet about a little over a month ago. Great helmet for the sub-200 dollar price range. It's comfortable and flows a lot of air. The shield is easy to change out (even with gloves on). It comes with a chin guard (not sure what the official name of it is) which helps with keeping the wind and cold air out. My only complaint (and it's not a big one) is the noise. It's a pretty loud helmet. It's loud enough that I can't use my bluetooth on the freeway. Overall, if you're not concerned about the noise, it's a great helmet for the price. November 20, 2014
good helmet happy with helmet, plenty of airflow, just as described November 17, 2014
Great Backup or 1st "Snell Safety" Helmet The medium Vortex fits a little better than my large RS1. I bought this helmet as a backup/girlfriend helmet. The gloss white helps me mix it up if i get tired of my black helmet. The fit is right on. The inside is not as plush feeling as the RS1. And the noise is a bit louder say scale 1 - 10 this would be a 71/2 my RS1 would be a 5. My face shields are interchangeable from both helmets. The air system is not as good the RS1. I noticed I lightly sweat in it compared to not sweating at all in my RS1 with face shield down while moving. Also this helmet feels lighter than the RS1 probably due to shell size. At speeds higher than 60mph this helmet's aerodynamics are are not as good as the RS1 I give it a 2-1/2 out of 4 as the RS1 would be a 3-1/2. If I were to replace my year old RS1 i'd look into another RS1 though perhaps Medium next time... November 17, 2014
Great inexpensive helmet Helmet fits true to size, but I needed to go up one size on the cheek pads to give a more snug fit. I've got a little longer and slightly narrow face, so I needed a little more padding in the cheeks for the perfect fit. Changing out the visor is a breeze, and so are the removable liners (makes it very easy to clean). The fit is very comfortable and lightweight for long rides. I rode about 7 hours in a day and didn't have any complaints about being sore or feeling like it's too heavy. Ventilation seems to work rather well, and you definitely notice a difference in warmer months. Once I replaced the cheek pads (50mm to 55mm) the helmet fits nice and snug all the way around, and doesn't move around at all on the highway. Get yourself a smoked visor and you'll be set! Overall, it's a great helmet for what you pay, and little touches like the wind guard underneath your chin make a difference. November 17, 2014
Great bang for the buck This helmet is a super value for a DOT/Snell rated helmet. Airflow is good. Noise average. Good styling. The optional Transitions face shield makes this a versatile, quality choice. November 17, 2014
Honest Review Here's my two cents, for the doubtful customer. I bought this helmet in april of '14, and is my daily commuting helmet. Why did I buy this? Well, like any other rider, we're all biased when it comes to looks in a helmet. We all want a helmet that will look great. This one shows amazing graphics and be warned, compliments from random people will be a norm for this helmet. What made me buy this? 1. the looks, 2. the features. This helmet is Snell rated! This helmet has undergone strenuous testing that exceeds DOT and ECE, this is a track ready helmet. Even though I gave it five out of five stars, the only thing that has worn down, after heavy daily use, is the padding that makes the double d ring not chafe your jaw area. Dont get me wrong, the pad is still there, but the rubber strings holding the padding have become lose, it still hold well and this will not interfere with the safety of the helmet, and it is more of a nit pick, there are multiple fibers, and only a few have become lose. As I said this is an honest review, so that is the only thing that had caught my eye from this helmet. Besides that, the helmet is extremely solid and will do its job. The material used for the shell is light and you wont feel the helmet heavy after long commutes. The visibility in this helmet, is great, is has more than enough room for you to see left and right lanes and when you tilt your head you should have no problems on checking your blind side with minor movement. To summarize, if you want a snell rated helmet for this price with great looks and amazing features, get this. November 16, 2014
Noisy I like everything about this helmet, it is definitely looks great especially with the black visor. It is very comfortable and fits good (my head is a more oval shape). I got the large size and its just a bit big, but no issues. The major fault with this helmet was the noise level, above 100km/h the noise becomes unbearable! I recommend this product only for urban use where there are no high speeds. November 15, 2014

David S: It is the most affordable helmet that meets the higher Snell standard. I don't want to skimp when it comes to protecting my head. Mar 12, 2014
Daryn B: Number one thing? Its a BELL, been a trusted brand for many years for a good reason. Its an incredibly great price for what group this helmet is classed in considering what it offers. Plus, this blue color scheme is one of the best i have ever seen, at least for what I am looking for . Thanks Revzilla / BELL for allowing affordability, while maintaining reliability. Thats the best compromise , and a rare one at that. Mar 5, 2014

A shopper asked: Hi, I'm sure you get this question a lot so I'm sorry for not being original. I just purchased a GSXR 750 and am looking for a new helmet which is under $200, preferably under $150 though. Some of the helmets I was looking at were the Bell Vortex and the Scorpion exo series. Which helmet do you think is the best bang for the buck for around/under $150? Nov 3, 2013

Klayton L: I have 2 exo-700s (one for more than 6 years) and 1 vortex. I like them all so its up to your personal taste. The exos have a more snug fit and are a significantly quieter ride, but the vortex is a good bit lighter and does better at not fogging in cold weather. If you can, go somewhere local and try one of each on and see how you like the fit of each, since its different. I too ride a GSXR 750, and Ive spent entire days on it with both helmet models. Ears were ringing on the day I wore the vortex and did highway speeds for 5 hours. Both are great helmet choices depending on exactly what youre looking for. Some Exo 700s are still to be found on clearance, but sadly they were discontinued.. there is a newer version though, too. I bought my second 700 and my Vortex at the same time a year ago. Hope it helps. Nov 5, 2013

Steve W: I've had three helmets now the most expensive being the least desierable.I bought the bell vortex and used it all last summer and believe it to be the best bang for the buck. It's a little noisy but much better than my modular,i think the fit is very good and the graphics are really good.I hope this helps.
