Bell Vortex Flack Helmet

The Bell Vortex is every bit the helmet you’d expect of the Star’s little brother. Developed in Bell’s state-of-the-art Santa Cruz, Calif. design center, the Vortex borrows heavily from the Star, using its Velocity Flow Ventilation with FlowAdjust for amazing ventilation and temperature control, as well as ClickRelease— the reigning world champ in shield ease-of-use. The lightweight polycarbonate shell is molded into a stable, wind cutting shape, and comfort is in no short supply with contoured cheek pads and a plush removable comfort liner. Finish it off with a noise reducing wind collar and integrated speaker pockets and you have a complete package at a killer price.

Features:

  • Velocity Flow Ventilation™ system with FlowAdjust™ for maximum stability and temperature control with minimal noise and buffeting
  • Lightweight composite polycarbonate alloy shell
  • Contour cheek pads (by means of stacked foam, not hand cut)
  • Removable and washable interior for maximum comfort
  • Padded Wind Collar to drastically reduce wind/road noise
  • Integrated speaker pockets for audio speakers

Awesome!... but WOW it's LOUD! So first off my head circumference measurement is 23 1/2 inches. According to the size chart 1/4in too big for a L and 1/8in too small for an XL. So I ordered both and the L fit perfectly, it's very comfortable, sent the XL back of course. Secondly, for $180 this thing looks fantastic, heck even if it was $400 it would look fantastic. This helmet is very high quality, the shield mechanism as mentioned in the video is phenomenal; makes you wonder why other helmets have such complicated systems. Ventilation is another major plus, flows lots of air. The only bad thing that comes to mind is that it is ridiculously loud, like borderline unbearably loud. **WITHOUT EAR PLUGS** However if you wear earplugs, like I do, you'll be fine. And finally, bottom line if you want a comfortable, quality built, SAFE (Don't forget this thing is Snell 2010), good looking helmet for a GREAT price... don't hesitate buy it, buy it now. Also, pick up the transitions shield it works really well. October 10, 2014
Great helmet for the money My old helmet was a Shoei Multitec, and I've used Shoei for decades. Shoei had always fit me comfortably, but at high speeds, the chinbar would get close enought for my lips to touch. After watching the Bell Vortex review, I decided I needed to switch to a longer/narrower helmet. The Vortex fits perfectly. I had to go from the large I normally wear to an XL, but it fits like a glove. A large view port, light weight, and plenty of airflow. It doesn't fit well with glasses. The cheekpads push the glasses off my ears, but a couple stitches at the top of the pad fixed that. It's a very noisy helmet, but I always wear earplugs, and I'd rather have the airflow than quiet anyway. All in all a very nice helmet for the price. September 26, 2014
No mistake Great looking helmet, fit is true and the airflow is amazing especially that brow vent. It's very snug at first but it contours so well. Its a little on the bulky looking side but that's to be expected with the lower cost helmets. Face shield removal is crazy quick and easy and it has great protection. Wind noise is a little high at 120+ but very bearable. October 13, 2014
Comfortable fit for a round headed individual like myself Comfortable, fairly lightweight, good visibility and love the flying tiger military styling. Very pleased with this purchase October 7, 2014
Great Helmet, but it is Loud The Bell has all the features you are looking for, great ventilation, awesome shield system, best safety ratings. I like the fit, and look of the helmet. It seems fairly large, not sure how many shell sizes Bell is using. My main con is it's loud, my wife's HJC cost less, is much quieter, and a more compact helmet shape for the same head size. I still like the Bell's shield and look better, but wish it wasn't as noisy. October 6, 2014
Love it! Great helmet for sub-$200. Good airflow and great graphics. Easily removable liner and shield for cleaning / replacement. Cheek pads were a little snug on arrival, and I considered ordering replacement from Bell, but decided to keep the originals and after 3 mos / 3000 miles they are perfect. Highly recommend. Quite satisfied I'm very happy with this helmet - for the price, you can't beat the features. Pro - good fit. I was on the line between L and XL - I went with XL and it fits fine. I like the styling and the pad design. Vision is great. Con - as noted in other reviews, the wind noise is quite loud, especially from the vents on top. Also, the vent above the face-shield blows directly on my forehead - so much I have to close it down a bit. The other surprise is that the helmet itself is very large - I've always been able to keep 2 helmets in my top-box, but with the Vortex I can only fit 1. Overall, these are minor complaints, and I'm quite satisfied with the helmet. October 6, 2014
Can't beat the price! With such a low price tag, I was able to get this helmet AND a transitional face shield! Plus, the helmet is very stable at speed...even when I turn my head to check my blind spot. The visibility is great and the fit is very comfortable. September 29, 2014

Christopher W: Fantastic helmet for the money!!! Only complaint is vents don't flow as well as I would like and a little on the loud side but a world of difference from my old Fulmer that was just in need of retirement... Aug 4, 2014
David S: It is the most affordable helmet that meets the higher Snell standard. I don't want to skimp when it comes to protecting my head. Mar 12, 2014
Daryn B: Number one thing? Its a BELL, been a trusted brand for many years for a good reason. Its an incredibly great price for what group this helmet is classed in considering what it offers. Plus, this blue color scheme is one of the best i have ever seen, at least for what I am looking for . Thanks Revzilla / BELL for allowing affordability, while maintaining reliability. Thats the best compromise , and a rare one at that. Mar 5, 2014

A shopper asked: Hi, I'm sure you get this question a lot so I'm sorry for not being original. I just purchased a GSXR 750 and am looking for a new helmet which is under $200, preferably under $150 though. Some of the helmets I was looking at were the Bell Vortex and the Scorpion exo series. Which helmet do you think is the best bang for the buck for around/under $150? Nov 3, 2013

Klayton L: I have 2 exo-700s (one for more than 6 years) and 1 vortex. I like them all so its up to your personal taste. The exos have a more snug fit and are a significantly quieter ride, but the vortex is a good bit lighter and does better at not fogging in cold weather. If you can, go somewhere local and try one of each on and see how you like the fit of each, since its different. I too ride a GSXR 750, and Ive spent entire days on it with both helmet models. Ears were ringing on the day I wore the vortex and did highway speeds for 5 hours. Both are great helmet choices depending on exactly what youre looking for. Some Exo 700s are still to be found on clearance, but sadly they were discontinued.. there is a newer version though, too. I bought my second 700 and my Vortex at the same time a year ago. Hope it helps. Nov 5, 2013

Steve W: I've had three helmets now the most expensive being the least desierable.I bought the bell vortex and used it all last summer and believe it to be the best bang for the buck. It's a little noisy but much better than my modular,i think the fit is very good and the graphics are really good.I hope this helps.
