Bell Vortex Band Helmet

The Bell Vortex is every bit the helmet you’d expect of the Star’s little brother. Developed in Bell’s state-of-the-art Santa Cruz, Calif. design center, the Vortex borrows heavily from the Star, using its Velocity Flow Ventilation with FlowAdjust for amazing ventilation and temperature control, as well as ClickRelease— the reigning world champ in shield ease-of-use. The lightweight polycarbonate shell is molded into a stable, wind cutting shape, and comfort is in no short supply with contoured cheek pads and a plush removable comfort liner. Finish it off with a noise reducing wind collar and integrated speaker pockets and you have a complete package at a killer price.

Features:

  • Velocity Flow Ventilation system with FlowAdjust for maximum stability and temperature control with minimal noise and buffeting
  • Lightweight composite polycarbonate alloy shell
  • 3 shell sizes
    • SM: XS and SM Helmets
    • MD: MD and LG Helmets
    • LG: XL and 2XL Helmets

Great helmet
The look is incredible
Great air flow
Noisy but all you to do to correct this is to block the 2 openings behind the ears, it won't interfere the air flow
For the price it's probably one of the best in the market! Plus you get the super great customer service from Revzilla and the fast shipping!!

Clean, no nonsense helmet
This is actually my second Bell Vortex helmet. I was forced to retire my last one, because my friends used my helmets at a party last summer to ram heads.

I like Bell because they're a dedicated helmet company. Their helmets come across as simple, yet stylish. The Vortex in particular exudes high build quality. It's also extremely comfortable and looks slick. When you wear this helmet, you get this satisfied feeling that all your money went towards building a solid helmet. As opposed to some other helmets, which seem like they pour too much of your money into purely cosmetic things that end up creating too much clutter.

This "band" design in particular is beautiful. Extremely simple and clean. I love the way it looks in person. I bought the White/Blue one.

NICE HAT. GREAT BARGAIN.
Runs slightly small, I measure at the upper end of the Large range and the XL fit nicely. Has both certs, DOT & Snell, nice styling but bear in mind I'm an old gink.

What a deal!
I echo the sentiment about it being a super deal. The noise I found to be fine, especially for the price point (I came from the half helmet world). But one thing I'd like to share about is the sizing... I had previously bought a medium HJC which started hurting after some riding because it was too tight. I then tried a large HJC and, surprisingly, it was too loose. The Bell dimensions for large fall in-between the two HJC sizes. And when I tried it on, it fit perfectly. So for those of you who may have struggled with HJC, the Bell sizing might be your ticket. Oh....And it is one coooooooool looking helmet!

New Lid needed
After doing some research, I realized that my previous helmet was a dinosaur and needed to be replaced. It is a Shoei RF-R circa 1999. So the hunt began for an affordable DOT AND Snell rated helmet that had a design that I liked. I like Shoei but their price point seemed high for some thing that needs to be replaced every five years or so. I reviewed a lot of helmets and settled on this Bell Vortex. The design and finish is better than the video shows. Compared to my old helmet it flows lots of air, and is a lot quieter when riding. The fit is spot on once it forms to your facial features. However, I do have problems putting my glasses on, but that is the only thing that is an issue. It's a great value.

Excellent Value, Quality Build, Fits Superbly.
Helmet buying is tricky. I spent many nights searching and searching, reading reviews, watching video reviews... endlessly. Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger and go with a gut feeling.

Initially, i was looking at much cheaper helmets. And then was quickly persuaded to spend a little more on something a bit more quality. And i figured, if i was spending a little more, why not get a color scheme i like. The Vortex Band (white), was my personal choice (i like the similar colors to the martini racing team).

Fit. You will have to go to a store and try some helmets on. Or risk it by buying what you think might be your size. Your choice. Some might find the bell mold to feel great! Others not so much. Personally the fit is great. Snug. Just enough to make talking a little annoying. Which is preferable because id rather it be a little snug than loose.

Venting is decently good. Provides enough airflow so that my head is not sweating. And ive been riding multiple times recently on those 90+ plus days. No complaints otherwise.

Noise is a little loud. I'm borderline on using ear plugs to held reduce some of the wind noise. At this time i have not actually used plugs, and i do not get any ringing even after longer rides on a rather loud bike.

If you cant afford the next level of helmets in the 400+ range (like me), id seriously consider the bell vortex series. Great paint schemes, snell 2010, dot, interchangeable cheek pads and visors, replacement parts, are all reasons why i bought the vortex.

This helmet is a steal for the price
The finish of this helmet rivals much more expensive helmets. The interior material and comfort is fantastic. The visor never fogs. It doesn't flow as much air as some of my other helmets, and is a bit heavy, but honestly having a SNELL approved helmet for $180 is such a good deal I don't even care. I mostly just use it for racing NSR50's but there are times when I pull this helmet out to wear on the street just because I like it so much. Plus, it looks effing dope, and I get compliments on the retro style everywhere. Inevitably, some old dude will say "I had a bell helmet just like that back in the 70s while I was riding my old bonnie!" and I high five them.

Good value, Great looking
Helmet is very quiet but still flows quite a bit of air. The only issue I have had is with the bottom vent being stuck open. Not a big issue for me and I am sure I can fix it easily enough.

I have gotten several compliments on the helmet as well. I love the retro design.

I haven't used it in the heat yet but judging by the airflow it should be cool enough. I will update if not.

Great styling, comfortable fit. Good value.
The latest offerings from Bell have all the features I need in a SNELL approved helmet at an excellent price. The sizing chart was spot on. If you want the very best spend more but the budget minded rider won't be disappointed with the Bell Vortex.

Needed new helmet to replace 5 year old scorpion and the bell was priced almost half its normal price. It is a good helmet for the money. It fits well and is quiet enough behind my ultra classic 10 inch windshield. Also, for me it is very comfortable. The medium fits my head perfect.

A great looking helmet that is a big upgrade over the HJC I had for a year. I picked it up on sale too, so the price really is perfect for a helmet like this.very comfortable, lots of vent options, thick sturdy plastic on the vent controls with smooth edges. What really got me hooked was the looks of it. Its a steal on clearance, and just a good deal even at the normal price.

I reviewed what seemed to be hundreds of helmets. The Bell Vortex seemed to be the best value based on its price, safety ratings and easily changed visor. In addition, the color scheme is complimentary to my 2009 Suzuki Boulevard, which was a positive.

Bell make high quality helmets. I love the retro style of this one. I also have a transition lens for it. This graphic is the reason I chose it over the Bell Qualifier DLX (with transition lens). My girlfriend owns and loves her Qualifier DLX.

I have to wear glasses. Does this helmet work well with glasses?
A shopper on Dec 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It is doable but I imagine it wouldn't be comfortable. The glasses would fit even under the visor but the problem is that the cheekpads are so tight against your face that the arms of the glasses frame would dig into your temples. I would suggest either getting contacts or buying a modular/half face helmet because for long rides this will be very annoying
What year is the Snell Cert list for this Helmet?
Wayne B on Apr 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: M2010
What's a good size for a girl?
Miguel V on Jan 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Depending on the girl I would suggest a small. I believe its an intermediate oval shape. My girlfriend has a Bell qualifier deluxe which I tried on in a shop before I purchased my vortex, so if you have a shop close by who sells the qualifier I would recommend going and trying it on. Also I highly recommend the transition lens. Hope this helps!
Are the bell logos removable like on the Bullet?
A shopper on Jul 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The Bell Stickers are not removable. Classic logo though and a great helmet for the price. Many complements on the retro graphics.
picture is dark wind shield, but youtube movie is clear wind shield. I feel confuse.
is it dark wind shield or clear shiel?
and If it is dark shield, can you change clear??

i bought a medium and its a bit to small. can i put the liner for a large in the medium?
Rob B on Feb 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The medium and the large share the same shell size, so I'm assuming the liner for both of these sizes is the same size. As far as the thickness of the liner goes, I don't believe they make the liner for this helmet in different thicknesses. I would think the only difference between the medium and long sizes would be the thickness of the cheekpads, which are removable. Replacing your pads with thinner ones will probably do the trick. Good luck.
I just purchased the medium and its a bit small for me. is it possible to buy the large liner and put it in the medium shell? are the shell sizes the same?
Rob B on Feb 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I Wouldn't the padding will break down...thats what happened to mine and its nice and comfy now..
