Bell RS-1 Gearhead Helmets

The Bell RS-1 Gearhead Helmet comes in either a red/black or black/white color scheme. Regardless of the color you choose, the graphic on this lid has depth and detail and a high level of reflectivity.  Part of the Bell RS-1 Helmet line, the Gearhead bridges the gap between the top-of-the-line Bell Star and the value-minded Vortex with an amazing blend of mid-line price and high-end performance. The shell is a lightweight Kevlar/fiberglass composite making this helmet lighter than both the Star and the Vortex. The fit is a race fit, so more snug but still very comfortable due to the Contour Cut Cheekpads and a plush, removable, washable liner. Packed with features, it’s one great helmet at a modest price.

Features:

  • Contour Cut Cheekpads
  • Integrated speaker pockets for audio speakers
  • Removable/Washable Liner
  • Agion (R) Antibacterial Liner
  • MagnaFusion Strap Keeper
  • Snell M2010 Certification
  • Velocity Flow Ventilation
  • Super Stable Aerodynamic Signature
  • 3Mode Shield - Lock, Ratchet, Crack
  • ClickRelease Shield Mechanism
  • NutraFog II Anti Fog Coating
  • Kevlar/Fiberglass Shell
  • Comes with clear face shield only
  • Five-year Warranty

Great helmet Had this helmet for a few months now. great fit and comfortable, also has good airflow. Made even better with the transition lens. Matches my bike perfectly. Another great product from Bell, well worth the price. April 30, 2013
Great Buy! I got this product to replace a helmet I'd had for years. I'm not disappointed, this is an awesome helmet. The fabric inside is very soft and comfortable. Also, the pockets for your ears are a great feature so they don't feel squished on long rides. Noise level is low. I can almost not hear my little 250. It is a little stuffy on hotter days but I suppose removing the chin curtain would help with that. Last but not least, it looks awesome! October 15, 2012
you get what you pay for! great design, removable parts are easy to remove, wash, and re-install. love the magnetic chin strap, only issue is it sometimes disconnects at high speeds (120mph+) September 24, 2012
My first premium helmet Fit's like a glove. You can tell that it's expensive over the 100-200 dollar mark. Had a HJC helmet around that price range does not even compare. Bell rs1 is really good quality, feels good on my head, very easy to change face shields. The material inside helmet is soft, the straps are of good quality. This is the best helmet I ever wore and will keep it for a long time. August 29, 2012
Good light and well featured helmet You have to like the light weight and features of this helmet. The ventilation is adequate and the liner is comfortable. I have received complements on the graphics. The only con is on a naked bike it is slightly louder than normal. August 1, 2012
overall I am very happy with this helmet! Air flow is a night and day difference compared to what I had before as well as comfort! Great helmet at a great price July 9, 2012
very comfortable After reviewing tons of differnt helmets i was stuck between the bell star and the rs1 both are great helmets but the helpfull team at revzilla informed me that i would me more comfortable in the rs1 cause the shape of my head it fits great and flows good air and is still quiet i would recommend this helmet to anyone July 2, 2012
Awesome value for sport/streetfighter city riding I bought the RS-1 following an over-the-handlebars crash in a Bell Star. The Star held up great and so did my head, but following the rule of never tempt fate in the same piece of gear twice I had to let it go. As somebody who doesn't hit the track much, I decided that while I wanted to stick with Bell based on my excellent experiences with the Vortex and the Star, that the Star was a bit of an excessively expensive option for a street fighter like myself. Enter the RS-1. Comparing this helmet to the Bell Star I had prior, I think that saving some money on the RS-1 is an easy decision for almost anyone to make who doesn't regularly compete at the limits of performance in closed circuits. It feels almost (not quite) as light and the quality of materials, especially the extremely comfortable inner lining, doesn't seem to have been compromised in the least. In addition since the RS-1 was designed after the Star, you can see some practical improvements... the tab for locking the visor is now a dense plastic that is easier to switch and requires less maintenance then the previous aluminum one, which came with lubricant drops. The air vents are easier to activate all around, and there is now only one tab to control both of the vents on top of the helmet. Air flow is actually better then before, which is astonishing. I haven't noticed a particularly different fit in the RS-1 to the Star, but haven't ridden a whole lot yet in it. I gave a point down on Features because the helmet bag that the RS-1 comes in isn't as swanky as the Star helmet bag, which rocks and is still an amazing bonus. Fortunately I still have my old Star helmet bag, which is where the RS-1 now resides! June 8, 2012

I have read that the Bell RS-1 seal around the eye port does not completely seal the gap between the faceshield and the helmet allowing water to leak inside the helmet, has Bell fixed this issue?

Answer:
We have never heard of that issue before for the Bell RS-1 helmet. It is probably a specific case that was taken care of by Bell as a warranty issue. We never had a return issue about that specific problem.

Answer:
Actually, I do have the leaking problem. Perhaps it's limited to the Large and X-Large sizes? I'm going to try to adjust the fit of the shield using the screws, as another RS-1 owner suggested. I haven't found the helmet to be very quiet either, and most of the noise seems to eminatate from the top of the visor, so hopefully the adjustment will address that issue too.

I purchased a 2012 model RS-1 back in march, i have had no issues with the shield. it blocks air and water very well. It sucks up nicely to the helmet.

Answer:
I just rode in a surprise rain storm yesterday with my brand-spankin-new RS-1 and I had no issues with water inside the helmet... Not so much with the jeans I was wearing though... lol
