Wanted a quiet, high quality helmet For the most part this helmet satisfied my requirement for a high quality helmet, quiet, good vision. I have a roundish head, 22" exactly, high cheekbones, a square jaw. While I have broken this size Small helmet in, it is still a small shell, and it squeezes my temples when I put it on. I removed the extra foam on the cheek pads, not a lot of difference. Also, the strap is short and I have to fiddle with it to get the flap snapped. It seems to be made for a tiny person. Once it is on, it envelopes my head firmly, without squeezing, and I no longer notice it. Good ventilation, shield doesn't fog much. I read somewhere that the velcro on the Sena speakers doesn't stick very well. This is true, I had to stick them on with the adhesive that came with the Sena kit. I have small ears, and sometimes they get folded against the speakers, ouch! So, from the classic head size fitment advice, Small should have been the one - but I wish I had tried the medium. Great touring helmet, not for sport bikes. I bought this because of it being marketed as a touring/sport helmet and the "street version of the Corsair V". The helmet is super comfortable and stable at all speeds. It looks great and would be the perfect helmet if not for one issue... The helmet is very loud over 65 mph unless you are sitting straight up. If you like riding sport bikes your ears are going to bleed without proper ear plugs. June 29, 2015
You get what you pay for After researching helmets for a few months, my search was narrowed, thanks to Revzilla's exceptional detailed product breakdown videos, to the Arai RX-Q and the Shoei RF1200. I like the shape and look of the Shoei, and the price is reasonable, as are the safety ratings. However, after watching all the detailed breakdowns of the Arai RX-Q, and watching the Isle of Man YouTube videos and seeing Arai as the primary helmet on the riders, and the price being a bit more steep, which can lend itself to appeal to less of a crowd than the Shoei, I found the Arai to be most desirable helmet. My father, whom I admire and miss dearly, rode in an Arai Helmet. And I just like the look of the Arai helmets better. As for the quality of the helmet: the paint/powder coat is fantastic. So much so, in fact, I could put it in a glass case in my foyer and display it as art. The materials have a high-end feel, and we're very carefully crafted. It's a very round helmet shell. As for fitment: Revzilla has made it almost too easy to find the correct size. I measured my head, and learned that my head measures to require a size Small helmet. (I'd been wearing a size Large Shoei RF-800... Quite a difference) The size Small fits my head perfectly. It is snug on my cheeks, but not too much that I can't chew gum or speak. Trust the size chart!!! As for while I ride: Road noise can be loud at times, no question. It's not a very sound-deadening helmet, but it's considerably quieter than the helmet I was used to (see above) At highway speeds it sounds windy, because it is windy. You'll really feel in tune with the weather, which in many ways is a gift. Head checks: when looking behind you the helmet doesn't feel like it's parachute has deployed, it is so round and uniform that it's almost no different from looking straight on! What a blessing! Visibility: is very good. Only limitations are my natural periphery, the helmet exceeds my periphery. Style: you're gonna look cool. You will likely be the minority, wearing such an expensive helmet, so that's cool. People who are in the know will see you wearing an Arai helmet and think, "whoa that's a sick helmet, they must really be into riding." That's pretty cool. Safety: it's got the highest ratings possible. Another feature that is cool. If you take a tumble, your head is going to be as safe as possible in this helmet. I trust this helmet and recommend it. I have the diamond black color with a gold mirror visor. And I've really come to enjoy both. June 17, 2015
RX-Q matches the Corsair At the end of the day it's really quite simple. We are RX-Q matches the performance of the Corsair the difference being that you're riding in a much more upright position. If you never owned an Arai helmet, you should know that while it's the most expensive but it is quite simply the best helmet if the fit is right for you. My first ride with it was around Lake Superior in Canada with varying conditions in terms of heat and cold and rain and during the entire trip of 2400 miles, I never once experienced an issue with fogging Taking off and putting on the face shield does require a little bit of practice. I have seen more intuitive systems for taking off and replacing a shield, but the extra work is definitely worth it. If your unconvinced look at the other helmets over the last several years many of their improvements are based off of Arai including vent in the shield its self. July 20, 2015
Fits Round shapes well I bought this helmet primarily because this was the only helmet I could find that was shaped for round heads (Asians commonly have rounder heads). I can't really comment on noise level because I had tinnitus to begin with (so take this with a grain of salt), but while wearing this helmet noise just kind of seems to get amplified, so earplugs of some kind is mandatory for me. In short, this helmet is LOUD. As far as range of vision goes, there was still maybe 5% of my vision range obscured, but that shouldn't really matter. For the most part I can see very clearly. The faceshield will fog up sometimes, but as soon as I get going it disappears. This mostly occurs in the morning though. I never figured out how to use the locking mechanism that they showed in the booklet that tells you how to crack open the shield WHILE it is locked in, and iirc it was supposed to help with the fogging though I might be wrong. Just a little trivia regarding the graphic for this helmet, in case you guys didn't know: it is depicting the story of the Dragon Gate in Chinese Mythology, where if a Koi (or Carp) could jump over the waterfall (the Dragon Gate) they would transform into a Dragon. Great looking helmet Looks good and feels good with great vision. Would recommend. June 29, 2015
surprisingly loud Very comfortable right out of the box. Great visibilty. Surprised how loud it is compared to my old Bell Vortex. June 28, 2015
comfortable with glasses I had an old Shoei RF 700 from back in the 90's that I never really used & broke it out when I bought a new 2013 Aprilia Shiver since my Bell half helmet from my Harley riding days wasn't quite appropriate to wear on the Aprilia... I knew the Shoei was too old & should be replaced so I drove over to Philly to try on new Shoei's & other brands. The staff are great at the store... I tried on a few Shoei full face helmets but they were uncomfortable with my glasses on. I could always get contacts but that is another hassle... I tried on the Arai & then put my glasses on & it felt fine... no pressure points resulting in killer headache... Sold! Plus I got a $25 credit which I just used to buy a Fly tail bag so I can store a few things while I ride.... I also bought the tinted Arai shield... the salesguy at Revzilla was a pro at installing & removing the shield but it took me a few tries to get the tinted shield on.. but now that it is, I really like it... no need for glasses & sunglasses... Plus the Aria has a détente that keeps the shield locked shut but open slightly to let more air in. Overall, a really good, high quality helmet! May 4, 2015

Also Diamond black color loooook sooooo goooood! it was impossible to find here in Canada.

Thomas K: because Arai's Crystal White helmet matches my bike :-) And Arai helmets are very well made. Jul 1, 2015
William J: Arai, so you know it is the very best quality. I love the fit and finish of this helmet, I have one and my wife has one as well. The RX-Q is comfortable to wear and you don't even feel it as it is so well balanced. Arai is the very best in Helmets. Jun 14, 2015
John H: Because it is a world class safety rated helmet to protect my life! May 27, 2015
tak hon c: quality May 11, 2015
John M: Purchased to replace an aging Arai RX7RR4 which has served me well. No other helmet I looked at fit me more comfortably or well. Also, Arai's reputation for producing an excellent and elegant product is well deserved. It will be great to start a new riding season with a new bucket. Apr 21, 2015
William G: My daughter is going to be riding her new Honda CB500F with us on both day to day rides, and family day trips. We wanted to get her a solid comfortable helmet suitable for the upright riding position of the Honda. Apr 19, 2015

James E: Replacing my Arai Quantum/F. Great videos you post too! Feb 13, 2015
Wesley T: Arai has excellent research and development with focus on rider's comfort and needs without sacrificing safety. The finish is flawless and the comfort liner and cheek pads are the most comfortable of any helmet I've tried on. Feb 2, 2015
Steve M: I've worn only Arai for the past four years because of the overall quality and fit. I dropped my Vector 2 in my garage and busted it, and decided to move up to the RX-Q as a replacement. Jan 4, 2015
Richard V: Arai has a good name in the market and the RX-Q is designed for the type of riding I do. Dec 29, 2014
David D: Quality, safety rating, riding style. I ride a Caponar, fairly upright, commuting and long distance riding in all kinds of weather. Dec 24, 2014
R U: We own two of these helmets, very comfortable with a very accurate fit. Dec 6, 2014
Jeff M: I liked the style of the Bell Bullitt, but at $400 it was all looks and no substance; plus it gave my forehead hot spots. Similar to the Bullitt, the RX-Q has clean lines and simple design - but the fit and finish and safety of the RX-Q is far superior for the added $$. This helmet fits my melon like a glove. Nov 29, 2014
Howard B: Perfect fit to my long oval head shape or perhaps medium long oval. I tried the Signet Q but it was just a tad long. Kudo's to ARAI for designing the RXQ and Signet Q for the more long oval medium oval heads out there. Snug but not to tight padding. I have enjoyed the helmet for over two years now. Oct 13, 2014
David G: After speaking with the guys at RevZilla and reading many, many reviews I chose the RX-Q over the Corsair V as I will be riding upright and 3/4 and the venting really only work on the Corsair in a full tuck and at speed. Arai was the only choice as I wanted the best quality and best safety features available in a helmet as it guards the most important part of the body. Aug 22, 2014
Jari W: I like arai helmets. Did my research on sizing and the fit is great. Really like this helmet. Aug 20, 2014
William B: I owned a black frost Arai Vector-2 and then picked up an RX-Q for my wife. At one pint I ended up using that RX-Q as my primary helmet and I liked it better. Despite being the same size, it felt a lot smaller and had noticeably less wind drag. It was also more comfortable and seemed like it was a better quality helmet. When my Vector-2 later stolen, I decided to upgrade to an RX-Q for myself. I couldn't be more pleased. Aug 11, 2014
DMILO H: It Fit. Jul 15, 2014
Giff N: I chose this helmet because of previous experience with Arai. They are truly high-quality, superbly-engineered helmets, expensive but worth it. I bought from Revzilla because they, alone out of all the other Arai dealers I contacted, took the time to research a question I had about this helmet and needed answered before I bought it. Jul 11, 2014
Alexander K: safety, arai name, the existence of arai's comprehensive sizing guides, i thought this would be a good first helmet choice, and this seemed to match most of my planned street riding. Jul 8, 2014
Gregory H: This is more a intermediate oval shape which would fit my wife. We wanted to have the exact color in helmets. Arai allowed us that with the RXQ and SIgnet. Jun 21, 2014
daryl c: I feel I've bought the safest helmet from the best co. in the business.... a necessity with the interest of my family in mind. The expense is secondary. I say "Buy as much helmet as you possibly can". You don't have to go Real fast if you don't want, Just don't go Half assed! Jun 6, 2014
Nathan P: Arai = Awesome! Such great helmets. Comfortable, super safe, and also quiet. Love 'em even more than Shoi. May 26, 2014
M S: Based on RevZilla team recommendation. May 15, 2014
Margaret K: present Apr 26, 2014
Laurie M: I've always been an Arai helmet wearer but the video reviews convinced me that this was the helmet for me. It has great visibility and the inside is entirely removable. It is also styled for an upright vs. racing profile. I prefer graphics on my helmet but I didn't really see anything in the graphics line of the RX-Q so I went with the solid color. Apr 25, 2014
Adam V: Snell and DOT approved Apr 22, 2014
John S: Great product video review. Loved the convience of PayPal. Love the free shipping. Will shop with you again! Feb 24, 2014
CHRISTOPHER G: I HAVE A 2014 HARLEY DAVIDSON SPORSTER 1200 CUSTOM AND MY BIKE IS ACTUALLY BIG BLUE PEARL I AM HOPING THAT THE COLOR WILL MATCH Feb 8, 2014
Gary P: The Arai RX-Q is the best Helmet Ive ever had. Fantastic product, Beautifully made, Perfect fit. Jan 27, 2014
David R: The pic shows a solid black helmet. I bought the diamond white.

I chose diamond white because of visibility, and the Arai because of it's reputation as the safest helmet available.
Jan 27, 2014
Rejean H: great helmet overall. comfort.price Jan 21, 2014
Gregorio V: Fit and quality. Went to the 2013 Progressive Motorcycle show in Long Beach and of all the helmets I was able to try on, the Arai RX-Q (and Defiant) fit me the best. The materials and craftsmanship were also impressive. Jan 14, 2014
Kyle S: Was trying to decide between the Schuberth SR1 Tech, the Shoei RF 1200 and the RX-Q. I was trying to justify $1000+ for a helmet and dark visor, but just couldn't bring myself to it. The RF 1200 looks great but none of the graphics impressed me (not a fan of flashy skulls or looking like darth maul) and none of the solids blew me away either. Owned several arais before, can't go wrong and the diamond blue really impressed personally. Its flashy but clean looking and at an affordable price. Jan 5, 2014
L U: Arai Quality and fit. I have owned Arai helments before - great fit for my intermediate oval head. Price is not bad for such a quality helmet. You only have one head - protect it with the best helmet you can afford. Sep 8, 2013
Donald A asked: I've had this helmet for about 3 months or so and I've noticed a major wind noise that completely blocks me from hearing my bike or any other noise from that matter at a mere 20mph+. How can I eliminate this noise or at least cut it down? May 18, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
Kevin L: For me the comfort of the RX-Q outweighs the wind noise on the highway, so I grabbed a pack of the orange "squishable" earplugs and pop a pair in my ears loosely before a ride. That way, it cuts out the noise without the underwater effect of completely blocking out all sound, and they are also very comfortable. Just a thought... May 18, 2014

Phil V: I don't notice any whistling. It's a really great helmet, and probably the safest one you can buy. It's comfortable, super quiet, and the field of Vision is excellent.

That being said, in brutal honesty, if I had the opportunity to spend that much on a helmet again I probably would buy a really nice modular. I'm a big guy and probably take up more than my fair share of oxygen. I have a huge problem with my visor fogging up. In cold weather, it fogs then freezes. Full face gets so warm and smothering too that I never wear mine anymore. I always wear my skid lid (half helmet).

This is probably the safest helmet you can buy, but it ended up dangerous for me as I never wear it. Before I had the skid lid, I would just go helmet-less. Not good!

If you're used to wearing full face and you don't fog up too bad, this is THE BEST of the BEST!!! Great ventilation too with no whistling. Only full face helmet I could find that when all vents are open, you can actually feel the wind in your hair.

Mark R: No, it does not "whistle". Does it make some wind noise? Yes, but for the most part it is a very comfortable and quiet. This is my second Arai RX-Q and I love this helmet.

I also have a Schuberth C3 which is a helmet I use on 300+ trips as it has my BMW Communications System. This helmet is probably the quietest helmet I've owned....BUT also the most expensive.

You can't go wrong with the Arai!!

CHARLES H: I am not familar with the Vector helmet in that I have not tried one on. The Arai line uses the same head demensions for determining the size for each of their modles. The Difference comes in the different modles fit different head shapes. I went from a Quantum 2E to the RX-Q and its a great repalcement as both helmets are for a round/oval head shape. The Vector is more intermediat oval and though the circumference of the XL Vector and RX-Q may be the same, the fit won't be the same. I tried on lots of helmets on multiple occassions and though the Arai Defiant is supposed to fit the same head shape as the RX-Q I found it to be more oval in shape and not as good a Fit for my Quantum 2/RX-Q head. If you ride a in a 3/4 to uparight riding position the Defiant might be a better choice for you. I loved my Quantum and the RX-Q is even better. Mar 21, 2014

Per K: Hi, I've owned the RX-Q for a couple of years now and absolutely love the fit. I got it for a cross country ride (east to west) and couldn't be more happy with it for the rare 8+ hour days. Great air flow, lightweight, & quiet at 70mph.

I can't comment on the fit of the Vector, but I have a pretty round head which The RX-Q conforms to well. The cheek pads support upward nicely for even balance around the whole helmet. Hope this helps. Revzilla has awesome customer service!

Rafal C: Hello there,

The best way to answer this is to try on the helmet and then but online. I can tell you that it is significantly lighter and more aerodynamic than my Arai quantum2.

Good luck!

A shopper asked: Can I purchase the RX-Q with the thinner cheek pads or do I have to buy the helmet with the thicker ones and purchase the thinner ones seperate? Feb 9, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Racer04: To directly answer your question, I don't know. I know they can be ordered as an accessory.

Mine came with the standard cheek pads. However, the stock pads are easily made thinner by removing different thicknesses of foam from them. The cheed pads are made so that this is an easy adjustment. The first thing I did was disassemble the helmet. I believe the first section of foam that can be removed is 5 mm thick.

For what it's worth, I initially thought my pads might be too tight. I left them as delivered. Don't know if I just got use to them or what, but almost 2000 miles later, they are still stock.

Great helmet, but I will be buying pinlock shield with insert to handle fogging in this cold weather riding.

Chris K: The RX-Q comes with a certain type of cheekpads for each size that you would buy. Unfortunately, you can't order one with anything other than "stock" cheekpads.

The good news is that the stock RX-Q cheekpads come with a 5mm peel-off layer. Just take out the cheekpads and remove the cover, and you will see this layer available to remove. This simulates going one size down in cheekpad.

Jkenny: You can fit them yourself, just peel a layer or two of foam off the cheek pads. They are made so you can self adjust without ordering additional cheek pads. I peeled 1 layer off on mine and it fits great! Jul 8, 2012

A shopper asked: I noticed that "TommyHolly" reveiwed the Arai RX-Q Helmet and mentioned that he uses the Sena but not how he has it attached. Thanks. Aug 1, 2011
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
TommyHolly: I have a Arai RQ-Q helmet (and an older Shoei RX-700)... I also recently bought a pair of Sena SMH-10 Bluetooth Headsets and they fit great!

The clamp on the side easily will fit the Arai helmet and pretty much any other helmet you can think of. There is a slight 1-2mm gap at the top of the headset where the helmet starts to curve in but that doesn't affect wind resistance, noise, or anything else. Attaching the earbuds inside of the Arai helmet required the supplied sticky velcro pads that came with the Sena because the material the helmet is made from doesn't work that good with velcro. The Shoei material worked fine with velco and I could attach the headphones anywhere without a stickypad.

Doghouse: ! used the adhesive pad that came with the SMH-10 on both helmets. 130 miles in the rain and no problem. the clamp sets into the helmet. I had J&M and love this system. Jul 16, 2012

A shopper asked: Does the RX-Q have molded speaker pockets? Other reviews on the web seem to point to the removal of the cheek pad and then they "appear"? I have taken one apart (from 2015) if it makes a difference and see no molded pockets? The Sena 20S has bigger speakers so this could be a problem. I hope I am just missing something. Feb 23, 2015

ROBERT L: I replaced some J&M speakers in our RX-Qs with 20S sets. I had carved out cheek pad foam and stuck a velcro fuzz pad on the EPS. Pulled out the old speakers and installed the 20S pair. No separate connector for each speaker, so everything has to be inside before you start attaching but it is done and we have enjoyed a number of rides. Apr 2, 2015

Steve F: I've had to modify the foam in my RX-Q for proper fit. So I've had them in and out a bunch. It would seem that any pocket for speakers would be created by the owner by modifying the foam. Hope this helps. Feb 23, 2015

Please advise.

A s: The Diamond white is the metallic. It isn't as showy as one would think, but if you are dead set on flat white, the "white" is the way to go. Jan 5, 2014

Rey I asked: Can the retractable chin spoiler be used effectively as a chin curtain? I'm looking for a relatively quiet helmet that will prevent dust and debris from coming up into my helmet on the road. Sep 23, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Steven R: Not really. I have used the chin spoiler to keep my chin warm on chilly days, but from my experience the chin spoiler is there to settle an aerodynamic instability in the helmet. At some head angles, you can get some minor buffeting and lowering the chin spoiler settles this out. It won't keep dust out of the helmet. This helmet needs to flow air to keep the visor from fogging, and to keep you breathign; so there is no way to keep dust out. In terms of wind noise, I wouldn't call this a particularly quiet helmet, nor would I call it a noisy one. Pretty much average in that regard. Always wear ear plugs. Sep 23, 2013

Scott S: I ride a KLR everywhere with this helmet and have never had issues with dust or debris. I use a foggy mask when it's needed and goggles when the visor is up. I don't think the chin spoiler makes much of a difference in either position, but I'm not traveling at speeds over 50mph much either. My fiancée tried three helmets and ended up with this model as well. We are happy. It's the quietest helmet I've ever had, never found a need to use the earplugs I carry. Hope that helps, ride safe. ROBERT L: We had J&M systems in our RX-Qs hard wired into the bike. Just switched to Bluetooth this year after some poor connections. Jun 19, 2015

Rejean H: I don t know about the Goldwing intercom system but I did install my Sena intercom system and it s been very easy to do. There s lot of room to put in place the set of speakers and the mic just fit in also.
This is and excellent helmet and I m very satisfied with.

Hope it s been helpfull.

Jennifer B asked: Regarding helmet size/profile, is the Arai RX-Q helmet smaller than the Shoei Qwest? Thanks! Mar 12, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Rejean H: Hi Jennifer, I only used Arai helmet because the're the only one that fit me right. I have a Arai XXL and it's very comfy, no pressure point at all and I think that the most important thing. The fit in a matter of your head shape vs the helmet shape more than the sizing only. You sould go to your local store and try one on before ordering . Mar 12, 2015

A shopper asked: Is the shell size for Medium and Large identical, leaving the difference between the 2 sizes purely to the paddings/linings within? Oct 24, 2014

Mark I: I believe to qualify for the Sneal rating a helmet shell has to have 5 sizes not just 3 like lesser quality helmets. Not sure where the break down is but this a great helmet. Oct 27, 2014

A shopper asked: I'm a little confused since I am seeing the RXQ listed as both an intermediate oval and a round oval so which is it ? I see where the Vector 2 is listed as an intermediate oval but it says you can change it to a round oval by removing padding from the temple and cheek area. I have tried both of these helmets on and give the Vector 2 the edge as far as comfort. What I don't like is that the Vector 2 doesn't have a chin curtain, I read where HJC makes one that will fit the Vector 2. The difference I noticed on the fit of the RXQ was that the tip of my nose touches the breath guard and my glasses didn't slip in quite as easy. In all of my research I still am not sure of the difference in shape between the Vector 2 and the RXQ, they appear to be very close. Anyone else that has compared these two I would appreciate your thoughts. I'm thinking I will either buy the Vector 2 and try adding the HJC chin curtain or buy the RXQ and trim the breath guard so it doesn't touch my nose. Aug 25, 2014

Mark I: My head is small and more of an oval shape, the RXQ is a really nice fit. Changing the shield does take lots of practice though. Aug 25, 2014

Ricky C asked: Hi, what is the difference between the RX-Q and the Defiant helmet? And which one would you recommend someone who rides a ninja 300. Thanks May 25, 2014

Steve M: Really doesn't matter what you ride. How much do you value your "squash"! Get a helmet that fits correctly with the most protection. Jul 18, 2014

A shopper asked: Hi,
Is it true that generally Arai shells are more compact than Shoei's for the same size helmet?....
Also, I have a round head and 56 cm. Do I go by the chart and get the small RX-Q?
Thanks

James123: It depends because I ordered the Qwest before this one. The small shoei felt like it was a bigger shell size because there there is more space in the front of helmet. Also the small shoei uses the same shell size as the medium so it kind of felt bigger. But honestly the shell sizes are relatively small compared to other helmets I looked at to begin with. A shopper asked: I know that Arai has manufacturer's dates and a 5 year warranty but could you tell me is the 5 years from the date of manufacture or first use? I have an RX-7 Corsair I need to replace and was curious about the helmet lifespan. Sep 6, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: Arai's warranty is 5 years from the date of purchase or 7 years from the manufacture date - whichever comes first. Sep 6, 2012

A shopper asked: In Australia, a helmet must have a DOT Approved sticker (red with four black ticks) in order for it to be used on state owned roads. Do your helmets that are DOT approved have this sticker?

Thanks
Aug 17, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: While all of the helmets that we sell are DOT approved, they do not come with the AS1698 sticker. Helmets with the AS1698 sticker can only be purchased through an Australian dealer. Aug 17, 2012

A shopper asked: Dear Reader;

I have an ARAI Profile (in Large-size) helmet that needs to be replaced. I'm interested in getting another ARAI brand helmet but I noticed they no longer make the Profile model. Is there something else in their product line to replace the Profile?

Thank you,
Ray
