review:
my previous helmets from most favorite to least fav: shoei X11, OGK FF5, shoei X12, AGV gp-tech, scorpion EXO700
i went down on my X11 and was in the market for a high quality helmet. since my x11 is extreme awesome and VERY high in quality, it became the standard (unfortunately a high one). i considered the x12 (rode with it for 2 weeks, and realized it was inferior to my x11), corsair V, HJC full CF, bell star, and the vemar.
i did my research and found out read great things about them. i even got to ride with one and found not bad (i rode with a solid black one)
ventilation: its decent. its not anywhere close to my x11 but you can feel a little bit of it on my head (i am bald btw, so every bit of air can be felt).
comfort: its pretty comfortable, im not going to lie. the helmet shape is a medium oval shape.
weight: the solid one i rode in was light, my carbon fiber one is even lighter. wearing a 14xx gram helmet is pretty amazing.
quality of the carbon fiber: it has a very stright weave. i only found two spots on top where the weave was not so good.
not so good:
quality: this is the BIGGEST down fall. the day i got my vemar CF, i was super excited until i opened the box and was wondering why my spoiler was funny looking. i realize it was CROOKED!!! if that is not bad enough, i saw a piece of grey "something" hanging out. after realizing the spoiler was detachable, i pulled it apart to realign the spoiler and realize IT WAS DOUBLE STICK TAPE holding my spoiler on. unacceptable. i understand that they are trying to save weight but this is unacceptable... SHAME ON YOU VEMAR.
another fall on the quality is the clear coat. on the side, where the visor ends (where it piviots the visor up and down) the clear coat was not fully on and you can see it ends (or where the chipping started) this one ONLY on the left side.
another fail is the "black chrome" they put on the triangular vents, spoiler, brow vents, and mouth vents. it is not evently put on, and if u are OCD about perfection like me, look close and you will see little bubbles. the problem with chrome or black chrome plated plastic is that it was do two things (in about 6 months of regular usage): one, it will fade. two it will chip.
the last fall that i didnt like was the visor system: it did not seal completely (more like only 2/3 of the visor). even worst is the end of the visor where the pivior screws are, there is sooooo much gap between there, and this makes the air buffeting evident.
last comments: if u are comming from an high end shoei x11, arai FF4RR/FF5RR, ogk or gptech...you will be finding this helmet very very disappointing.
however, if u are upgrading from a scorpion or any helmet less than the $400+ mark then you will be perfectly happy.
if you are REALLY looking for a light helmet, look into the akuma line, they are excelent or the HJC FS-15 carbon.
this helmet is not a "$750" helmet as VEMAR wants in their MSRP. heck, paying $430 (what i paied) is still, in my opinion, too expensive.
so what did i do you ask? "if it aint broke, dont fit it"
i got am x11 again. i will not review it here, but look into it. its cheaper than the vemar, and its a dream (better than the x12, ive had both).
also, if u are in the market for a high end helmet, look into the new BELL STAR helmets.
good luck and hope this has helped.
