The ICON Stryker Back Protector starts with a custom molded bio-foam chassis. Designed to mold to your back, air channels within the foam allow heat to escape resulting in reduced fatigue. Secured to the chassis are three layers of impact absorbing foam which are capped by an articulated reinforced plastic shell. The reinforced shell helps diffuse impact forces. In addition, the shoulder and waist straps are removable providing you with the option of installing the back protector into certain Icon jackets.

I Bought this back protector to replace the foam insert in my Icon Contra jacket. Switching it out was simple and it fit perfectly in the jacket. Wearing the protector with the back pack style straps it comes with keeps it lined up perfectly and it articulates well to conform to your back. Putting the protector in my jacket weighs down the back a little bit but doesn't hinder riding at all. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to beef up their Icon jacket or for more protection in general.

I bought this back protector for my Icon Overlord Jacket, so I have not used the built in straps at all. This fits perfectly fine into the jacket. Most of the straps come off, but there are two loop plastic points that remain on. I do not feel them while they are in the jacket, but it would have been nice if the jacket utilized these to secure the back protector. The protector seems to just float inside the slot in the jacket. It seems secure enough, but an opportunity seems lost for "locking" it into place.
Comfort is fine enough. You can tell the back protector is there, but there is no discomfort. The rigidness is felt a bit mid back with some slight pressure. I can see this inhibiting airflow a little bit since it always seems to be pressed against my back.
