Icon Stryker Back Protector

The ICON Stryker Back Protector starts with a custom molded bio-foam chassis. Designed to mold to your back, air channels within the foam allow heat to escape resulting in reduced fatigue. Secured to the chassis are three layers of impact absorbing foam which are capped by an articulated reinforced plastic shell. The reinforced shell helps diffuse impact forces. In addition, the shoulder and waist straps are removable providing you with the option of installing the back protector into certain Icon jackets.

Features:

  • EN 161-2/03/AC2006 CE approval
  • Removable shoulder and waist straps allows armor to be directly inserted into certain Icon jackets
  • Custom armor plate finishing
  • Comfortable and non-restrictive
  • Custom molded biofoam chassis
  • Imported

It's so good I am buying a 2nd one for my other Icon Jacket. This is a must have upgrade for the pathetic foam insert they call a back protector that comes stock with your Icon jackets. Don't believe me? Pull yours out and see. The Stryker comes with a hard shell on the outside and bendable softer inside. There are venting holes (not bad, but better then nothing at all) to keep you cooler. There will be some fit issues as the Stryker is a bit thicker (almost double the thickness) then the stock back protector. So if you Jacket is attack fit and really snug this might be a problem. For people who aren't running a jacket with a back protector pocket, the Stryker comes with a strap system that also has a waist band that offers some support which is easily removable if you dont need it. It is also a bit heavier then the stock one but that is to be expected. I strongly recommend it and I am even purchasing a 2nd one for my Icon Compound (my first one went into my Leather Overlord). Beefed Up Back Armor I bought this back armor to replace the embarrassingly thin foam back pad that came stock with my ICON Compound jacket. This piece easily unhooks from the body straps and slides right into the armor pouch of my jacket like it was made to do it. Oh wait...it was. Certain back protection now and more confidence riding while wearing the very nice jacket. July 14, 2014
Comfortable This is a great product from icon it's really durable it's real we'll it also comes with a bunch of straps to you can wear under your jacket or suit I have a compound icon mess jacket stryker series and if it's in there nice and well May 5, 2014
Good armor for the right jacket Barely fit into my XL Icon Contra mesh jacket but pretty comfy once I got it in. Kind of feels like wearing a backpack and gives you a weird hunchback look but you can't be too safe. Since it's thicker than the Field Armor it will make the jacket a bit more snug. April 28, 2014
Great for added protection! I bought this to wear under my unarmoured leather jacket or over a hoodie/shirt for some added protection. It fits and looks great. Very breathable I can wear it for hours easily and not be bothered by it. Infact I hardly notice it at all. Great product I highly recommend it. Only thing is that because the straps are removable to be used in an icon jacket, the strap clips sometimes pop out when I take it off. No big deal just wish it clipped in snugger but not like it's gonna pop out while you're wearing it so no worries :) April 8, 2014
Rugged yet refined IMHO, next to the helmet, spine protection should be the next priority. With the Stryker on, you never question "is it adequate?" It is beautifully rugged, however the flexible scales, breath-ability and it's relative light weight make you all but forget you have it on after a few seconds. I rotate it between several jackets (pockets) with no problems. Highly recommend. April 7, 2014
Another great product from ICON Very simple to install onto of the jackets that accept this back protector. It actually makes the jacket flow air better than the dual density back protector that probably would not hold up very well in a wreck. February 28, 2014
Great Upgrade I bought this as an upgrade to the back protector my Icon Overlord Type 1 jacket came with. This is 1000x the protector it had and while (luckily) I haven't crash tested, I have no doubt that it would more than do the job. Upgrading armor is a no brainer if you like your well...brain, back, skin etc. January 28, 2014

Clinton B: Hi fellow shoppe
I believe it would but height isn't everything, eg long legs and neck. I found it far to hot in the Australian sun so I mostly wear a kidney belt. I would relate the feeling to that of a camel pack. great product and price ! thanks Revzilla

Joel S: I'm sure it will I'm 5'11'' and it fits me fine. The 4" difference isn't all in the back. Also you can put this back protector in certain icon jackets to replace the foam that they come with for a range of sizes. Feb 3, 2014

Bryce C: It should work fine, the straps are adjustable so you can make sure it lines up well. If you're using it to upgrade the protection in your jacket it' should work perfectly. Feb 3, 2014

Nathan Y: I slipped mine into the pocket of my Hooligan 2 jacket to replace the rather cheap foam one it came with.
But on to your question...it is 6 inches across the top, 7 inches across the bottom and 10 inches across at its widest spot which is 8 inches up from the bottom. The total height from top to bottom is 19 inches. Hope this helps.

A shopper asked: Would it be ok to do with stunts, like flips and falls? Feb 5, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
andrew g: Depends on who you ask in all technicality once you crash on it your supposed to replace but with doing stunting your typically slower speed if you dump i personally wouldn't have a problem with it.....one note if you try and bend backwards against the spine it locks and is very stiff Feb 5, 2014
Reply to andrew Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Mike F: I found this is great for racing, but for stunting you would want something more heavy duty. I currently use as supplemental armor Feb 5, 2014

Isaias C asked: Which would provide more protection the Icon D3O Back Protector Insert or Icon Stryker CE Back Protector? Aug 26, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
anay p: I have the Stryker CE back protector and I am pretty happy with it. I bought it to put as a replacement back protector for my icon jacket. I don't think I was aware of the D30 protector when I searching around. I know a lot of people wear the CE back protector with mesh protection (non jacket) and it works well. However, that being said, if you are just planning on replacing the stock back protection of a jacket, if the other one is reviewed well and has proper protection, might be a good investment to save $65 and go with the other one if that's an issue. Although I can't speak much about the other one since I don't have it, but the Stryker is a pretty solid/stable feeling protector. Aug 27, 2013

Bryce C: I'm unsure of the D3O insert but I really enjoy the Stryker because it can be used as an insert in your normal riding jacket or if you don't have a jacket handy the straps that come with it are more than adequate for keeping it in place. I wouldn't say it replaces a jacket or other protection but it's very sturdy and worth trying one on. Aug 27, 2013

Lydia R: I'm unable to fit it into my Icon jacket. The area where it's supposed to slip in doesn't allow it to fit. The pocket has an opening about a quarter of the way down, so I slid the bottom section in first, and then attempted to slide the top part over the back protecter but it's about 1" too short. I can't fit the top section of the sleeve over the protector - I can only fit the bottom 3/4. How can I get this to fit? Jun 10, 2014
