Great Hard Back Protection
The fit and finnish is great. As well as adjustability. I purchased XL and I'm 6' 210lbs, with a relativly flat mid section and bigger chest. It's mesh so the air flow is ample. The back protector is similar if not identical to the other "bionic" back protectors offered by AS. The back piece un-zips but can not be worn seperatly. The chest pieces are a thin plastic with foam behind them and do not come off. The so called kidney pads are nothing more than thin foam.

So, what's my opinion? It's a really good product to wear under a leather race suit. Very comfortable and easy to get on and off. In between track sessions I can easily unzip my suit front to cool off. If it's really hot I can remove my one piece leather suit top (let the top hang) and I don't have to mess with my back protecter since it is not connected. I've worn it all day at the track without taking it off and had no issues and stayed cool.

I didn't want to hassle with the other AS offering with bottom strap and odd top "button" that connects into my leathers. Mainly since it seamed complicated to get on and off. Also I didn't go with the suspenders option since the price is so close to this model and I wanted the extra (if any) chest protection the vest offers as well as easy on/off capability.

Great vest!
Cons: The back protector unzips, BUT it does not unzip to the point where I can insert it into a jacket (the side velcro panels stay attached), which is a big downside. In fact, unzipped, I don't see any use at all for the back protector. This is inconvenient mainly because I want to be able to zip my pants and jacket together, but can't do so if wearing the vest.

Pros: Protection. The chest and back protector are top notch. The mesh fabric seems very durable. The foam inserts for added hip protection are a nice touch. The quality is what you would expect from A-Stars - always first rate. And the customer service at RevZilla is unmatched!

Great vest
This thing is great. Let's u wear all your jackets without a back protector and ads the chest and side protection too. The mesh is a great touch. U forget u have it on and the airflow is excellent. No cons for me, just a big thumbs up. I'm 6'6" 245lbs muscular build, bought an XL and it fits perfect, not too tight, not too loose. I like the protection and feel without the bulk. Perfect.
And obviously, Zilla is by far the best on the market so no doubt i'll be back for more stuff

Great protection filler under jackets and suits
i could've gotten away with one size smaller, but this is a nice piece of armor to fill a slightly loose jacket or wear under your suit for racing. The profile isn't too think (atleast not as thick as my last A* back protector) and the hard-shelled lung shields are a nice touch. I was hoping for more kidney protection, but there isn't much there. This fits fairly tight, but it's flexible and stretches easy to fit various body types.

Great for summer and winter seasons
For the overall price, the item is great and provides solid protection for the back. The front could use a little bit more beefing up, though. As for size, I would say it fits true to size. The adjustable straps make it universal depending on the build of the person wearing it. It works great for the brutal hot summer days when a jacket is not tolerable. This vest provides just enough protection and the mesh is great for airflow. Likewise, this vest works great for the cold winter days because you can literally wear it under your winter coat/jacket. It is slim and wont be visible while wearing.

Great product
I was happy to upgrade my back protector to the Bionic SP Vest. The protection feels solid yet versatile via the zip ups built into the unit. Excited to wear it under my track suit soon!

Why did you choose this?
RevZilla Store
I need some back protection for my old A* SMX jacket. I figured the added chest protection and maximum airflow of this would be a better choice than the floating inserts otherwise available.

I want back protection; the back protector wasn't very comfortable and the front velcrow would come apart easily. This vest is much nicer and adds protection to chest and collarbones. I love it.

Good protection, minimally bulky, lightweight, breathability, can wear under jackets without feeling stiff and ok pricing.

Hi there,

I'm interested in the Bionic SP Vest, I'm 5'9" tall, 156 pounds, chest 40", what size would suit me better?

Thank you very much.
A shopper on Oct 16, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Definitely get a Medium. I'm 5'11, 165 pounds, chest size between 39" to 40", it fits very well and it's just a little snug. Perfect size for me. Hopefully this will be good information for those who are planning to get this vest but not sure what size to get.
Does this use the same ce2 rated back protector as the A* track protection vest?

Thanks,

-A
A shopper on Jun 14, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it's zippered on so you can remove it.
I an wondering if this vest can be worn under light clothing without looking like robocop? Also, I am a woman bust size 34, 140lb and 5'4". What size would be a comfortable fit? Thank you.
A shopper on Mar 13, 2012
BEST ANSWER: IMO it can. It wouldn't look "stupid" but u take away a lot of protection- elbows, shoulders and forearms. Ride as protected as u can bud, just ask someone who had crashed already or watch YT videos with gear crash reviews. But to answer your question, yes, it would fit under a loose t-shirt no problem
Would it be possible to swap out the included back protector for the bionic air back protector insert? thanks!
triplemushroom on Nov 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, the back protector is down in.
What size do you recommend? I am 5'8'' and 150lbs. Would a small fit?
I currently wear a Alpinestars Motegi one piece suit in a size 40US.
A shopper on Jul 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I am 6'1" and 170lbs and wearing M, I think small would fit you.
can you buy this vest without the back protector and use a prior model back protector with it (Alpinestars)?
A shopper on Aug 23, 2011
BEST ANSWER: No, but you can purchase just the chest protectors separately.
Would a size small fit me? I am 5'8'' 150lbs.
