Speed and Strength SS1600 Cruise Missile Helmet 4.2 5 29 29
Edgy but still sexy SS1600 Great helmet if you're looking to keep a sleek but sexy look to your helmet. Diffenently sticks out from the other helmets I have owned in the past as far as looks go. Only down size is the sizing. I did read reviews before buying and noticed a lot of peoples were fitting small and they recommended buying a size larger than you needed. Even doing that it still fit rather snug but I'm hoping after some time wearing the helmet it will start to fit better. Besides that I have no complaints other than it didn't come with a clear windscreen like the pictures portray. Come with a clear one but can easily be replaced to a all black one from picking on up off this site. Still recommend the helmet and very glad I picked this one over some of the other ones I was looking at. Hope this helps! Ride safe! January 19, 2016
Love this style I love this helmet, it's got just enough attitude to turn heads but its not over the top. Vision is great, it's fairly comfortable. The only issue I had was sizing. I wear XL helmets and hat but had to return it and get a XXL, so it runs fairly small. Still great product and even better service from revzilla. November 24, 2015
Great helmate Love it... Love the drop down visor.... Use it night and day withiut having to change out visors... Best bang for your buck November 19, 2015
Speed and Strength - Not so promising I've had the helmet for a week now and would have to say: I am deeply disappointed. Even with the cost being so low, I would of gladly paid extra for a better helmet. Yes, the graphic design is great and the finish for the helmet is there, BUT there are too many cons that far outweigh the pros. 1 - The helmet runs SMALL and tight. I got a large and it's still too tight. The foam inside the helmet creates HARD ridges that press against your head. When you first put it on, you won't notice, but after 20 minutes, it becomes painful. 2 - The whistle when the visor is up is very noticeable. And it doesn't do that much better when the visor is down. It doesn't cancel the noise. 3 - The "D" Ring strap is flimsy. It's far thinner than the other helmets I have worn. If you are new to riding or ride very few minutes around town, than I would suggest this. But if you're a serious rider and commute daily like I do, than seek another helmet. $200 bucks towards a Shoei, Arai or even a Shark helmet would be better use. I don't recommend this product, sad to say. November 6, 2015
Awesome helmet for the money The only downside I have found to this helmet is the noise level, especially when the visor is up. It whistles pretty loud when its up but quiets down when the visor is down. For the price though I wasnt expecting it to be engineered to be super quiet. The fit is nice, style is awesome, and it has very good range of vision. November 2, 2015
Can't beat this helmet for the price! After years of riding w Arai and Shoei helmets I have to admit that I wasn't expecting this helmet to have the fit and finish that it does. Very comfortable helmet w a more round shape. Sharp looking as well. I purchased the black w the silver stripe. Good ventilation and excellent visibility. My favorite feature though is the retractable sun visor. A quick flip of the lever is all that is needed for those bright days w no worry about taking a spare face shield in your back pack. Best bang for your buck out there. October 10, 2015
Love this helmet This is the first helmet I have bought. I love the full face helmet and the drop down visor. The drop down visor helps a lot especially when riding into the sun. The helmet comes with a clear visor. I would suggest they come out with a yellow or amber visor for this helmet. I have not had the issues other riders have had with the drop down visor. Awesome Lid! I've been using this helmet for roughly three weeks now. I initially wanted a modular, but the shape and graphics on this lid were simply nuts, and I ended up going with it. I went with the black and silver graphics because I didn't want the orange stripe; although I loved the matte on the orange. The black is glossy and the silver stripe has a rainbow effect on it almost like a fishing lure. My head measurement was 22 7/8", which is right on the upper limit of size M. I chose a medium and am very happy that I did. The helmet fits remarkably well, with little to no movement even when looking backwards or sideways. Another note on size: I attempted to put music ear buds in my ears and then slide the helmet on. This did not work at all, and the helmet pulled the ear buds out of my ears. Maybe if the helmet fit a little larger it would work, but it did not for me since it's basically the perfect size. Not a big deal.. When I was looking for a helmet to buy, mandatory on my list was an internal sun visor. The one on this helmet is great for my needs. I noticed the tint could be slightly darker, but I never have any trouble riding in bright sunny days in Tampa Bay. The venting is OK - this is really the only street helmet I've ever had, so I don't have much to compare it to. I noticed some air flows up between the chin of the helmet and my face, which at times is slightly bothersome, but still is not a major detractor for this lid. I get compliments on this helmet all the time. The radical shape (especially at the rear) and the graphics scheme is really aggressive and cool. The helmet is pretty quiet. Not loud in an annoying sense at all, but ambient sounds can still be heard easily. I did my best in this review to be honest and explain all my thoughts about it. I found these reviews helpful and I am very happy with my purchase. If you are considering this helmet, I hope my review helped you decide one way or the other. It's an awesome lid. Cheers, kanyedian August 17, 2015

Welcome to our detailed breakdown of the new Speed and Strength SS1600 helmet available at revzilla.com.

This is the new SS1600. It came along and it said SS1500 we're going to tie you to a tree and we're going to bash you with a shovel because we're awesome. Have a peek at it. You're sub-$200 starting right out of the gates with this bad boy. It's aggressive, it's nasty, and it really follows an angular line that we haven't seen in very many flavors in the helmet market. You are getting polycarb. It's a completely redesigned helmet. You're going to have the drop down sun visor system, very, very sport oriented.

For this year we saw the new SS1400 which is going to be Snell rated and tricomposite. It's a little bit of a different flavor. Plays in the same pool but isn't such a statement piece. This bad boy, this is the cruise missile graphic which comes in a couple of flavors. Definitely different graphics available, definitely going to be solids at some point we see from Speed and Strength. Just a complete redesign. If we really look at it, super super aggressive.

Now that you know what they've changed, which is really just starting from the bolts and working your way back up, let's quickly note fitment as we dive into the rest of the features. Fitment on this bad boy's going to be intermediate round. That's right, I said round. You don't hear me say it a lot. It's going to be very oval in its shape. It's going to have a lot of room on the sides. Think Arai RX-Q. Think some of the HJCs we've seen in the past. Intermediate oval is what we typically see for the American market. A little bit longer front to back, but in a rounder shape. It's not going to fit everybody. You guys are going to know when you're round head shape, so keep that in mind.

Diving back in, let's start from the outside and work our way in. Remember, polycarb shell, 3 pounds 9 ounces. Polycarb is not as exotic as fiberglass or some of the other resins we see. It carries a little more weight with it, but I think that they came in at the 3 pound 9 ounce mark. I'm actually pretty happy just over the three and a half pound mark.

We look at the vent scheme. On the front here you're going to see a big chin vent. We went out and road with it. We loved the air flow we got from this chin vent. It's aggressive, it's nasty, and it ties in. You can see it. The cruise missile graphic is absolutely great, and they got the RevZilla orange. Moving up into the chimneys, two chimneys on the top. We found that they did not perform as well as the chin. That's okay. Again, you're looking around that $200 mark. It wasn't break the bank type of performance, but again we'd love to see them flow a little more air in the future.

As I rotate this bad boy around getting another shot of this big sweeping angular attack, it reminds me of some of the aggressive dirt helmets we've actually seen on the market here as it sweeps to the back here. It almost looks like a goggle ridge. Two big sweeping Venturi vents that are integrated into the back profile. Great aerodynamic profile. Again, we went out and rode this in sport scenarios and three-quarter scenarios, and we found that it really didn't whistle. It was a helmet that had some wind noise to it. It's not engineered to be lack of wind noise, but nothing to get in the way. The aerodynamic profile worked for us. You can see how it sweeps in down here along the bottom. Nice big ridges. You have these little winglets. Again, a little bit of extra extraction going on. Remember that air coming over the top's going to suck that warm moist air out of the helmet away from your head keeping you comfortable and keeping you cool.

If we swing around to the front, remember Speed and Strength, it's a UV resistant polycarb anti-scratch shield. Basic here in its construction. It's a new style visor release mechanism. You can see it on the front. Watch my finger here. I'm going to pull this bad boy down. It pops off from the side just like that. If I put it back on the front, I snap it in and I'm good to go. You can get dark smoke. You can work with this. It's got a nice big gasket sealing around the outside that's going to give you a good amount of protection from Mother Nature.

If I look down here, my breath guard is removable as well. I can pull that bad boy out. Some guys like breath guards, some guys don't. Some gals, too, are wearing this helmet. I don't want to be sexist.

If I move it around to the front, you're going to see my big gaping viewport. That's a good thing. If I click down right here...Actually, they moved it to the side here. I'm going to drop down my DVD system, the drop visor design, anti-scratch, anti-fog. Redesigned for this year. The way that they're producing it, nice good coverage, nice line across. It's nice that you don't have to get that dark smoke shield if you don't want to get that dark smoke shield. Rock solid in its construction. A lot of bang for the buck going on here.

If we look on the side, this is a locking mechanism right here on the side that you're going to see. That's going to integrate with your face shield here. You'll be good to go.

If I turn it on its side I'm going to tell you that I'm special. I got this right off the line. They're actually making a rolling change. The model that you're going to buy from revzilla.com is going to have double D-ring for the American market. It's not going to be a ratchet strap, so keep that in mind. I'm calling that right out.

If we look at the bottom, everything's removable. You're going to have a removable washable interior that's going to have a nice soft feel to it. There you go.

I'm going to remove my non double D-ring. I'm going to pull it out here. Notice the contour. It has some room for a speaker pocket here in the back. They're being nice and forward looking here, that's the word I'm looking for, in the fact that they're giving you the ability to integrate an outside vendor or third party communicator system. They're baking in some reflectivity down here in the neck roll. They're stepping up their game.

I'm going to remove the other side and pull my strap through here. Give me one second.

We can begin to expose the interior. It's wicking. It's antimicrobial. It's a nice touch from Speed and Strength. If I break into my guts, you're going to see my liner has a 3D element to it. It's going to have the appropriate cut aways to flow that air channeling to the top of your head. My snaps are right down here along the bottom.

What I'm also going to show you is that notice here up top it's not connecting with snaps at the forehead. It's connecting with plastic at the brow, which I like, which means that it's not going to give you that pressure point that you might feel if you had two snaps up here along the forehead. Notice, nice big comfort liner done in 3D material. If we open it up to the back here, nice big padding along the back. Staying in line with really what I would consider table stakes at this point. It's what you would expect.

If we open up the guts, this is where my nitpick came into play. You're going to see small vent holes in it. The chimney vents and the Venturi vents are going to be a little smaller than I was expecting. I would love to see them bake some ridges into that EPS. But, nothing that's a complete deal breaker here from Speed and Strength.

In that sub-$200 range there's a tremendous amount of bang for the buck. I can only imagine this helmet with a blacked out face shield as well as a matte black design is really going to turn some heads when it goes full on fighter pilot Top Gun.

Remember, this is the cruise missile graphic. There are other graphics available. This guy is going to be a different flavor but very equivalent to something like the SS1400, which happened to be Snell. This guy's just going to be DOT and ECE. Remember, that other 1400 version doesn't have the drop down visor system.
