STYLE OVER PROTECTION
Definitely a jacket more focused on style then anything even remotely resembling "protection".

Had a lowside going around a corner at ~40mph and I swear I would have been more protected in my carhartt. I had the jacket zipped with the collar snap in place and as soon as I hit pavement the whole front zipper tore open, shredding up my stomach and chest and causing the jacket to lift so I could shred my back too when I rolled.

Same story with the sleeves, my right sleeve ripped off at the elbow and took the armor with it, and also tore away at the shoulder as well. The left sleeve also tore at the elbow but didn't separate completely, not that it helped much as my arm was hanging out of the coat through the tear and was completely unprotected by the armor.

My $30 Levi's fared better than this excuse of a "motorcycle jacket", I think the only seam on the whole jacket that didn't let go was the decorative stitching around the breast pocket.

To it's credit, the jacket was comfortable and looked nice, but for $200 this thing is an absolute joke. It's been over 6 months since my slide and I'm still in disbelief over how quickly it just fell to absolute pieces, spend your money on something better than this, your life is worth more.

NICE!!!!!!
What a terrific jacket. It has a removable liner, plenty of pockets in the right place , even on the sleeves!! The sizing is right on, I'm 5'9''. 155lbs and a medium fit me perfect. The armour that comes with the jacket is great, it doesn't slide around and I think i'll keep it, no upgrade necesarary there. The jacket looks casual enough for a saturday nite out with the girl friend. Its a late fall to early winter jacket mostly but that fine , i can layer up. Even comes with its own hanger!!!

I'm not sure how the fabric on the jacket would hold up in a crash, i hope i never have to test it

Phenomenal Jacket
S&S has a winner with this jacket. I had originally ordered the Dogs of War jacket in a 2XL, which did not fit (I have a 52" chest), and the 3XL was not available, so I exchanged for the Rust & Redemption in a 3XL, in black. I'm quite glad I did.

It's a very comfortable jacket. The outer shell feels tough, and is beefy and well constructed, but surprisingly light. Texture of the poly/nylon material is reminiscent of a canvas jacket (not quite a waxed canvas, but still fairly similar). I love the heavy-duty brown contrast stitching throughout (everything should have contrast stitching). The armor feels solid, but is slim, light, and flexible; once the jacket is on, I don't really notice it's there.

Styling is simple, but hits all the right points, with some nice details in the quilting, accordion panels, and more. This jacket has enough of a mix of modern and retro flair, that it would be at home on riders on just about anything other than motard or flashy brightly colored sport bikes. Obviously, it's meant to appeal to the cafe, Euro, and bobber crowd, though.

Airflow is much better than I expected, and much better than other jackets I own. A bit stifling in the heat when you're at a standstill, but the perforations in the arms and back really shine once you start moving. I was thoroughly impressed, and think it'll hold up to Texas heat better than I was anticipating.

Honestly, in terms of fit, though I would disagree with the general consensus that S&S jackets run generously cut. I'm 6', 250 lbs., 52" chest, and the 3XL is a snug, but perfect, fit. I normally wear XL-2XL shirts, so this is a bit off for me. Not a big deal, though; I don't care what the tag says, just as long as the actual fit is good, and it is. The way this fits, plus my experience with the Dogs of War jacket, which I ordered to my size based on the size chart, would indicate that the 2XL would fit. Luckily RevZilla's returns and exchanges are a breeze, and I couldn't be happier with the Rust & Redemption jacket.

Nice jacket with cheap detailing
Overall this coat is great, especially at the price. If you're looking for a alternative to leather, this is a good choice.

My complaint about it though is in the detailing. All the hardware used is cheap. The zipper gets stuck a lot. The buckles bend and get inverted. One of the belt loops broke almost right away.

Cool jacket... really cheap hardware.

An amazing jacket at a reasonable price
Just for reference, I've worn a $55 Xelement mesh jacket for the last 4 years. Yeah. It was definitely time for an upgrade.
I bought my Rust and Redemption jacket on eBay instead of Revzilla (despite Revzilla being an amazing vendor; the price was just cheaper on eBay), but used Revzilla as my resource for sizing, reviews, and the fantastic YouTube videos they include with every product, which I find useful for any motorcycle product I purchase.
I'm just a hair below 6', 200 pounds (I enjoy my beer) and ride an XV750 - the jacket fits absolutely perfectly on and off the bike, especially in a cruiser style riding position, and does not restrict movement.
The arms reach just down to my hands, and are just tight enough to hold the elbow and shoulder armor in all the right places. There are gussets at the wrists to allow for easy removal.
The material feels thick, tough, and extremely durable, yet light and comfortable enough to wear casually. The perforated arms and back provide plenty of airflow, and without the liner air passes right through. I was slightly disappointed by the vest liner, but after wearing the jacket realized a full liner would restrict movement with such a form-fitting jacket; definitely layer up if you're riding below 45-50 degrees (depending on your tolerance). The back armor is molded in a rib-cage like fashion, which allows air to pass by it, unlike most back armors that are a solid piece and provide zero airflow. There are gussets at the shoulders and elbows, allowing for easy movement, along with extra gussets at the bottom sides of the jacket behind the buckle-style adjusters. Admittedly, the buckles feel lose and I could see them coming apart, but so far they've held up well.
The jacket has 6 pockets; 3 on the front exterior, one in the liner, one small pocket just inside the zipper, and one extra small pocket on one of the wrists that could easily fit a small pocketknife or other utility.
One of my favorite features about this jacket is the lower back, which hangs just down to my jean pockets, and I feel will provide adequate lower back protection if I hit the ground; and better yet, it covers my crack if I've forgotten to tuck in my shirt. Additionally, there are two buckles that you can strap to your belt to keep it from riding up.
All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. It's well styled, fitted, has plenty of pockets and adjusters, and without a doubt will provide adequate protection if it hits the street. Grab it while it's on closeout; you won't be disappointed!

Great jacket, may run a bit small
Bought this for my dad who normally wears a large, sometimes an XL, in most shirts and jackets. It was a little snug so we returned it and ordered an XL with no problems at all.

Looks and fits great!

another good review, worth every dime
Got this for Xmas. I am 5'7", heavy build plus gained some weight and the large is perfect. Elbow, shoulder, it all fits. Perfect for city riding but performed really well at freeway speed too where my Dainese summer jacket blows up like a balloon at high speed. I don't understand why they put a vest liner instead of a full liner but I will deal with it I guess. My wife loves the stile, she got me the brown one. Can't beat it for the price.

Nice looking jacket
I bought a brown medium and it fits spot on. It gets great air flow. Not heavy and bulky. I have gone through 5 different jackets to finally be happy with this one. I got compliments the first day I wore it out. Really happy with my purchase.

More perforations than expected.
The sizing is spot on except for when wearing the liner, that's when it gets a bit tight. Overall jacket is nice, wears well when it's warm but the perforations are ample down the arms. The liner works to block out that cold air but I felt it due to lack of sleeve length liner. Otherwise not bad jacket, features are decent. Buckles on the side leave a lot to be desired - with the liner in, I had to almost max them and they don't stay buckled very well. Otherwise great 2 or 3 season jacket.

Love it!
I ordered this on a wednesday and it made it to New Orleans by Friday. I was shocked considering I had placed an order a week before that still hadn't arrived yet(UPS fault, not revzilla).

Fit: I'm 6'2" 225, 46" chest and I ordered a Large. It fits snugly but i wouldn't want it any other way, the pads are right where they should be, and if i put on a few pounds over christmas i just have to give the buckles on the sides a little relief.

The style is classic but modern. People think it looks really sharp.

Could see it being a little chilly on a really cold day but with the liner in I was comfortable in 45 degrees. I was warm unless moving with the liner in on a humid 70 degree day.

The zippers are sturdy and smooth. I love the little pocket on the left wrist because I can just put my monthly parking garage card in there and just tap it to the sensor. Hand warmer pockets are easily big enough to get in with my gloves on.

My only complaint is the buckle at the top of the zipper digs into my neck a little but not too bad.

I was looking for a lighter jacket for the warmer months in brown; this one kind of reminded me of the jackets the viper pilots used in the original Battlestar Galactica, and I couldn't really resist the price (owning 5 motorcycle jackets already, it's hard to justify why I need to spend more on another). Looking forward to seeing if it fits snugly enough in a medium for me (40", 5'8" and 165 lbs.).

If I wanted to replace the armor on this, what would fit/work with this jacket?
I'm especially interested in back protection that's more breathable, but interested in the shoulder and elbows that are less bulky as well.

Is this or any Speed and Strength jacket made in USA ?

How does AR 700 compare to leather in abrasion resistance?
MIKAEL H on Nov 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It's really tough to compare the two, but here goes:

- leather is skin; it has oil and layers and is a flexible non-woven fiber.

- textile is woven and the fibers are dry.

What that means for abrasion resistance is that leather will "move," with the friction and the oil and layers will glide more easily over a surface. Textile material will more likely break- since they are dry goods. If we're talking road-rash; leather will protect you more. It won't breathe as well, and a lot of leather jackets don't offer quite the same padding as the textile jackets. It's a tough call to make, but the best news is that there's room for both. If you're riding a lot you'll might want a few choices in your closet for different climates and situations.

Hope that helps!

-Desi
Wondering if I should go with the medium or large size? I'm 6'0 and 195lbs with a 43 inch chest, decently broad shoulders built more like Anthony for reference? I watched the video and if the large fit Buzzsaw that well I'm wondering if it will be big on me and if a medium would be better suited?
A shopper on Apr 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I'm 5'7 and 150lbs, unknown chest size, would not call my shoulders broad or use "built" to describe myself at all; people have called me "wiry" and compared me to "fit tweakers". I bought the medium, this jacket adjusts quite a bit so I think the only thing that looks off when I wear it is that I'm fairly thin at the waist and the shoulder armor makes me look like a linebacker. I would recommend getting the large, at my size with the M, the arm length is just right and it just barely lands where it should on my waist (from it being too short). I think the M would be too short and land around your belly button... I had the same doubts between S and M, found a local dealer that carried them and went to try them out, later ordered from Zilla. Great jacket for the price btw, really good for hotter climates.
this does come with protectors?
shad w on Sep 10, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. Elbows, shoulders and back. I'm surprised the product description doesn't mention that.
how is the air flow with this? I live in a very hot dry area (central CA) and need something that'll breathe.
shad w on Sep 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The ventilation isn't very good. The front openings are small, and the sleeve openings are short (safer though). It's OK for warm weather, but not hot weather. It's more of a spring, mild summer, mild winter jacket.
How do you wash/clean this jacket?
A shopper on Jun 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hand wash cold. Rinse thoroughly
do not wring
do not bleach
hang to dry
do not iron
do not dry clean

That's what it says on the jacket word for word. Hope it helps.
