A very good jacket with great protection I finally was able to use this jacket. 1st, fit was as expected. I 'm 6'3", 270lbs, 40" waist, ordered 2XL in red. Spot on. 2nd, It comes with CE rated back protector (a must for me). Many at this price range do not. Read descriptions carefully. Have not been in the rain so no info on it's dryness. 3rd, this is a 3 season jacket, no doubt. Has good air flow when moving even with a full windscreen. I ride in a full up right position. But around town in slow traffic on a sunny day you will get very warm. 4th, for me the zippers were fine, but some complained about them so I used silicon spray on them, no problems. Looks good, fits fine and has lots of protection. Can't ask for much more. On hot days you need to remove the liner. August 4, 2015
A 1000 miles in it. The arm vents are much better placed than typical cuff-vents; so opening these vents and then loosening the upper zippers of each of the front vent-panels provided more than enough airflow during VA & WV's June 2015 weather. Jacket tailoring isn't Italian, but the size Large fits me (5'11, 190lbs) as well as it needs to in an upright riding position. Elbow and shoulder pockets are big enough to support larger replacement armor inserts. Sleeve adjustment snaps do a great job of holding the elbow armor in place. It needs a map pocket... And a phone pocket. Front slash pockets could be a little deeper. No zipper issues for me, but snapping the collar closed pulls the top of the collar inward against my neck; so the seam at the top of the collar saws on your adam's apple to the point where a 14-hour day resulted in a scab (I am going to have the tailor trim a millimeter or so off the exterior of the collar to ensure the microfiber liner curls over the lip of the collar). The almost spine long, CE rated back pad is a great standard item on this jacket, but the Held SAS-TEC back armor insert is rated CE2 and it is the only back armor replacement I could find that is large enough to cover the outline of the included Knox armor pad. The rain-proof liner does not feel breathable but I have a rain-suit so that part was thrown out. Logo branding waves the word "speed" around so much, it is almost like you are trying to turn yourself in. Summary: Since I was not looking for rain-proof, this jacket should be an exceptional summer jacket once the collar is sorted out. June 27, 2015
No really, the zipper is evil. Maybe i got mine too big but it makes me feel fatter than i am. Im more on the slender side so that could be it as well. But man it looks good. Listen to the reviews about the zipper. There is a waterproof?(i guess that's what it is) flap behind the zipper. If you don't pull the flap away from the zipper much... well it gets caught. This happens a lot.... and this makes me want to throw babies. Very roomie i fit three subs in it once. For how large the vents are i cant tell a much a difference over my joe rocket but i keep cool in New Mexico heat as long as i keep moving. When i lowsided my bike at 20 Mph It shrugged it off as if i just fell. No damage. If i can ill upload pics later. June 9, 2015
Good jacket, with a few issues... This is a good all-season jacket. Vent panels will allow tons of air through, yet when all zipped up, with an added insulating layer of your choosing, it should keep you warm enough all year. A few minor issues.... As other reviewers noted, the zippers could be better. The front does sit a bit short. The neck is not as tight as I'd prefer, and air rushes down my back. Good for summer, not so good for the rest of the year. Wearing a neck warmer helps. Heavier than I'd imagined, but that's probably a good thing. The velcro attachments at the wrists for the liner are ridiculous to reattach. I'll either be keeping the liner in or out. It's not something you'll want to play around with too much. An exterior chest pocket would have been nice, somewhere to hang a pair of sunglasses when walking around. But now I'm just being high-maintenance . It's a cool jacket, and should serve me well. Excellent I love the product. Excellent choice. The product satisphy the needs of security that requieres motor racing. Protects the racer ang gives him the confort of race comfortable. March 9, 2015
That darn zipper... Like the other review say, it's a great jacket but that zipper really is low quality, really bothers me sometimes. Overall the jacket breathes incredibly well and feels great. Only two complaints are the zipper and how the front of the jacket feels a little short. All being said I still reccomend December 22, 2014
Fantastic Jacket, Crummy Zipper For a first motorcycle jacket, I think the Chain Reaction is awesome. It looks fantastic, comes with armor which really makes the jacket feel more protective, and the ventilation is great. I rode in 85-90 degree weather today and with all the vents open the only time I felt warm was when caught at traffic lights for a few minutes but that's unavoidable in the nuclear Texas sun. The one downside is the zipper is absolute junk. At times it can take a bit of effort to get it to catch and zip up. Its a real shame because if Speed and Strength used a better zipper this jacket would be a grand slam. October 25, 2014
Good ventilated jacket I'm not a person who's into jackets that has their branding all over it. So this one is perfect. It's comfortable and very well ventilated. The detachable inside lining is key for summer rides. Highly recommended. October 12, 2014

Anthony Z asked: Two quick questions. Does anyone know if the liner is actually windproof, as stated in the video review, or is it only water-resistant? Also, has anyone tried riding with the front chest vents partially (half-way) unzipped? Would the velcro be strong enough to keep them attached? Thanks. Jun 3, 2015

Eddie W: Liner is wind resistant,
As far as the vents to, I opened front ones about 1/3 of the way and tucked the loose ends inside themselves. Air flow was good enough to keep from sweating. Back vent was opened 1/2 way. The Velcro at the top held vent in place.
Hope this helps.

Gabriel S: Not wind proof, on cold nights I'll wear a vest under the jacket. I have ridden with the bottom zippers on chest half open and it works fine. Over all I like the jacket a lot. Perfect for San Diego weather. Jun 3, 2015

Welcome to our detailed breakdown of the new Speed and Strength Chain Reaction Textile Jacket, available at RevZilla.com. New for this year, Speed and Strength is broadening their multi-seasoned textile line. The Chain Reaction is really more sport oriented, but I'm going to call it sport touring and sport commuter. If you think about the Urge Overkill that lived previously in the S and S line, it was three quarter length. It was a little bit of a different more multi-seasoned touring and adventuring configuration.

Here in the Chain Reaction, we're getting a jacket that has a sport flavor to it. Four colors. You can see the style and a scheme on this AR600 Textile Frame and you're getting that water resistant wind proof liner that's fully removable. So no thermal here, you have the ability to beef up your protection from Mother Nature. So I'm going to really give it that three season warm weather rating; think spring, summer, and fall.

Now one of the reasons why I really dig what they've done here, again, just over that $200 mark so it's not going to break the bank, besides the fact that it's RevZilla orange, four colors available, is they give you the ability to really flow a ton of air to this. So if you're taking out that wind proof water resistant liner and you really want to open it up for summer time riding, think about a half hour commute to work, what you have are these big panels.

So you have massive panels along the front held in with Velcro and auto locking zippers. I'm going to spin that back and pull that off. And you'd see that we'd have that on both sides here. So both sides have this panel meshed back. And what it's going to do, it's going to flow a ton of air through the jacket itself. On the sleeve, on both sides again, another auto locking zip that's going to flow air in through the sleeve and it's going to exit out the back, and not yet Buzzsaw there.

But when I turn Ed backwards, you're going to see there's a massive removable panel on the back as well. So that's what I really dig about it. The fact that it's sport oriented waist length, but it gives you that multi-seasonality and it is going to breath really, really well because you have the ability to expose mesh as you see fit as the temperature starts to climb. And we look at some of the other guts here on the front, basic hand warmer pockets you're going to see a nice, at about an inch, inch and a half, collar that does have neoprene lining as well.

Quick note on fitment; Ed is 6'5. I'm sorry you're six foot, 215 lbs., 45, 46 inch chest. He's wearing a size large; it fits spot on within the Speed and Strength collection. I would consider this maybe a sport fit but not overly aggressive. Again, built for an upright riding position, but you could easily spin it into the three quarter or tuck position, it's going to play well there as well. Keep that in mind. Consistent within the Speed and Strength line, American cut.

If you're not sure about sizing, we do ship just about everything over $40 for free. And I'd love it if you'd click right here and subscribe to RevZilla TV our YouTube channel, leave me your comments, your questions, your feedback on the Chain Reaction as we move through. Now getting back into the nuance of the jacket, we talked about the AR600 frame. Let's talk about the CE-rated armor. Vault armor comes stock in this bad boy shoulders, elbows, forearm. You're also going to have a back protector that comes included. That's a nice touch they're giving you that out of the gates. And again, you're coming in just over the $200 mark, a lot of bang for the buck there.

Turn your face away from me there Ed. Other creature comforts, we talked about the neoprene roll at the collar. Again, for flexibility to keep that especially if you're getting rained on, keep it from chaffing against your skin if it gets wet. Notice the elastication in the back of the shoulder, elastication at the top of the elbow. And if Ed moves his arm, you could see just how far back that big vent panel went that we removed from the front.

Now moving down the arm itself, or down the jacket itself, you're going to see at the bottom Velcro with a TPR there, easy to find with a gloved hand, allow you to cinch it in across the waist and it is going to have an eight inch connection. Meaning, you're going to be connected to any Speed and Strength pant that's got that eight inch connect zipper. I would love to see them do a Chain Reaction pant at some point too on the textile side of things.

Now turn backwards for me there, Ed. If we look at the back, you're going to see the reflectivity start to pop in, right? So you see our Speed and Strength logos. You see at the top of the back. You see it in some of the writing that's reflective. You're going to see this black watch piping that goes all the way down the backside of the piping there. So I come down here along the back, you're also going to see the rabbit pouch, which is awesome. That rabbit pouch is going to be great for stowing any of these removable panels and you have that with an auto locker down here along the bottom.

And last but not least, as we move into really what is the hero here of the back of this jacket is this mega vent panel that's fully removable, which is a really nice touch. And you're going to notice that we're going to unzip it down to the bottom, it's going to fully remove. Velcro comes off across the top. There's my panel, now it would be stowed in the pouch. Now, I'm exposing a large area of mesh all the way down the back that is backed with a back protector, really completing the set here giving you that full flexibility.

Again, for textile, for multi-seasoned riding, but really covering you well into summertime riding scenarios. Come around front and let's open up the guts. So if we pull down the guts here, you're going to see nice big, beefy zipper pole from Speed and Strength. And if we open it up, you're going to have this gator and this rain gutter system behind that's going to try to guard against any water getting through the zipper. And opening it up, you're going to see a few things going on. Here is our water-resistant, windproof liner.

You can see how that works and if you expose behind that, you're going to get these mesh panels that are going to be great over a t-shirt and that's going to be what allows you to flow the air through the jacket for summertime riding. Notice also up here towards the collar, that you're going to have a nice fleecy material. It's a micro fleece, it's not going to add warmth but what it's not going to do is, it's not going to chaff you just like that neoprene won't chaff you if it starts to get wet.
