Schuberth SR1 Helmet

The Schuberth SR-1 helmet is one of the most technologically advanced helmets available. The Schuberth SR1 is a super-sport helmet which has been developed for optimum performance on the racetrack, and is both ECE and DOT certified. Thanks to its advanced aerodynamics the helmet is at all times stable in the wind and even at high speeds creates no upward lift.

Outer Shell:

  • The outer shell of the SR1 is offered in three shell sizes and combines an aerodynamically optimal shape suitable for racing with excellent protection
  • Shell material: S.T.R.O.N.G. fiber and carbon
  • Special glass fiber reinforced special duroplast matrix with an additional carbon layer to ensure extremely low weight
  • The glass fiber-carbon compound is compressed in a vacuum at a pressure of 4.5 bar to form a helmet shell which is exceptionally sturdy

Inner Shell:

  • Made of specially optimized EPS foam
  • Used exclusively by Schuberth
  • Complex multi zone foaming allows optimal shock absorption

Inner Lining:

  • In addition to its excellent fit, the pad system of the SR1 also stands out on account of the complex ventilation and extraction system
  • Double-coated Coolmax suspension, skin-friendly with very good warming properties, transports moisture
  • Variable for effective ventilation
  • Fully removable and washable
  • Ergonomic design for maximum wear comfort
  • Anti-allergenic / antibacterial material

Faceshield Mechanism:

  • Extremely quick replacement of the visor shield with Schuberth's push-release system
  • Simple and convenient handling
  • Visor shield is installed and removed without tools
  • Face shield is Pinlock-ready
  • Pinlock is guaranteed condensation-free thanks to its double glazing technology

Schuberth A.R.O.S.:

The Anti-Roll-Off System (A.R.O.S.) especially developed by Schuberth is provided as a safety feature in every Schuberth motorcycle helmet. It ensures that provided the chinstrap is closed and correctly adjusted:

  • The helmet cannot pivot off the head from behind
  • The risk of contact between the chin section of the helmet and the chin or neck of the rider is minimized due to the small angle of tilt
  • The consequences of the helmet coming into contact with the chest as the result of an accident are reduced
  • Race-proven double-D fastener system enables the chinstrap length to be set easily and precisely

Aerodynamics:

  • Aerodynamic shape
  • Upward lift = 0!
  • Directionally stable
  • No oscillatory tendency
  • No buffeting
  • The D-Force spoiler enables the SR1 to be adjusted to the riding posture in such a manner that ideal behavior of the helmet in the air flow is guaranteed at all times

Acoustics:

  • Schuberth motorcycle and racing helmets are developed and optimized under scientific conditions in the Schuberth wind tunnel
  • Installation of a wind deflector enables the aeroacoustics and consequently the noise level to be improved still further
  • Approximately 88dB(A) at 100 km per hour (with closed machines)

Ventilation:

  • Visor vent to reduce face shield fogging
  • 2 head ventilation inlets (adjustable)
  • 2-way chin vent for targeted distribution of the incoming air in the helmet
  • Variable pad system
  • Visor vent
  • Head vent
  • Ventilation and cooling of the cheek pads
  • Active air extraction system

DOT and ECE-R 22.05 certified.

Wow sums it up
So I decided to take a big step and buy what to me is one of the best helmets ever made. Out of all the other brands I have never put a helmet that fit so snug on my head.

Schuberth thought about all the little details on this one. The padding is top notch, the face shield is of excellent quality and the overall finish is impecable. On top of it all it's very light, never fatiguing your neck after even the longest rides.

I wear glasses and the helmet even has small channels that makes it comfortable to wear this helmet without having constant pressure on my glasses that usually makes for an uncomfortable fit.

As a little plus it comes with a padded bag to keep it protected when in storage.

It might be on the expensive side of the helmet market but I don't regret one penny I put on this. Thanks Revzilla for keeping in stock an awesome product like this!

Re-experience what it was like to be born ...
...Every time you put on and take off the helmet. As the other reviewers have commented, it's a tight squeeze getting into the helmet. I tried both the L and XL. XL was slightly easier to get into but it was too loose once it was on. The Large ... well it would be easier to #2 a whole watermelon. But once the helmet is on, it's pretty awesome. The airflow is great and the aerodynamics are awesome. I also own a Shoei GT Air. The Shoei is way easier to get on, but it has nowhere near the aerodynamics and airflow of the SR1. Despite the fit, I really do like the SR1. I'm hoping it gets easier to take on and off, as the other reviewers have said. The only other thing I miss from the GT air is having a sun shield. But the SR1 beats the GT AIR for aerodynamics and is great for bikes with a minimal or non-existent fairing. I was able to get a comm system in the SR1. I used the Cardo SHO-1 which fit surprisingly well. Anyway, the SR1 is a great helmet and even better now that it's on sale (as long as you don't mind the fit).

Hot Spot on Forehead
I fit perfectly in Shoei and other slightly round oval helmets but this one just really burns my forehead with a hot spot (even with +1 sizing). I had hopes (for months) and it never came close to breaking in. Tried using the spoon trick to press on the foam to create a bit more space and even that didn't get it working right. It does flow air nicely, but the vents on top are pretty stubborn to move once they get a little use and grime on the mechanism. Sorry, I really had hopes for this helmet. It is quiet, but not worth the pain at any price.

I wish I had two of them
Going from a Shoei Qwest, this helmet is lighter, has more air-flow and seems to have a better fit. In general if feels like a superior helmet and worth the money. The visor feels solid, the pads feel like they are in the right locations, and getting air flow through this thing is great when it's 103 F out. My only complaint is the neck strap is a little hard to snap secured, but that's minor.

I like it, plus what Elfsolo's review said!
Ok, its snug getting on and off, but has a wonderfully secure and light feeling while worn. This thing is awesome in this summer heat in Florida. This helmet has great airflow. With the tinted visor I also purchased at Revzilla, its as awesome as helmet a can get. I usually wear Shark Speed R helmets because they fit my head shape well and have a drop down visor. I have always wanted an SR1 but the price of admission was to high for me. I find the SR1 to be a great helmet that fits snug like my Speed R but has a lighter aerodynamic feel with a more airflow and no drop down shield. I really like it and feel it was a deal on closeout. It's great on both my Hyperstada and the Monster821!

Fantastic!!
This is absolutely the best helmet I've ever put on. It's light, quiet, and extremely comfortable. Aerodynamics of this helmet are absolutely amazing. Feels extremely stable when at highway speeds. Make no mistake, this is a quality helmet, and is worth every penny.

I cannot think of enough synonyms for "amazing" when describing this helmet.
The Good;
- Fit and finish. The first thing you notice is how well made this helmet is. Nothing is half assed, everything is tight. This is a really nice change coming from a rattle-y HJC
- Weight. It is definitely a noticeably light helmet. It's not carbon or anything, but light. I hear the Euro version is really light though... thanks DOT :(
- Vents. It doesn't have many, but boy do they work! The front vent is adjustable between chin venting or cheek venting. Normally, I think "selectable" vents are kind of a gimmick. However, Schuberth really delivers; you can feel a big difference when you hit the switch.
- Seal of visor. Seem like a small issue, but when you close the visor, there are NO leaks. Again, nice change from HJC.
- Ear holes. Same as the vents, the open/close sound holes at the ear actually work. Open is nice around town for hearing traffic and such. Closed is perfect on the highway. (note: I ride with ear plugs).
- Spoiler. I thought this was a gimmick of the highest order... but those German engineers don't mess around! The stability of this helmet at speed is mindblowing. It makes my bike feel slow again. In the up position, my head felt like it was on rails while sitting upright on my FZ09. In the down down position, the stable point is tilted up for sport bikes. I tried it out on my buddies CBR600RR and definitely didn't hit triple digits with zero wind buffeting... that would be illegal.
- Glasses/sunglasses fit very comfortably into the pads. Those Germans really think of everything.

The Bad:
- The pads are very tight. It gets a little uncomfortable after a few hours, but hopefully it breaks in. It feels very secure thought...
- This helmet is round, not oval. If you have a narrow head and buy this, you will be sad.

The Ugly:
- None. This helmet is exceptional.

All others are obsilete
WOW.

Looks- awesome. I got the gloss black, no fancy logo. But still looks awesome.

Aerodynamics- They weren't kidding, NO BUFFETING OR LIFT! The rear spoiler helps a lot and is adjustable. Very cool.

Airflow- Awesome. You really feel it around your head and has tons of vents you can open and close. Here in cali i leave all of them open.

VIsion- Great. I thought the lens was up while i was riding. Nope, it is just that clear.

Sound- It is actually quieter than my shoei. Suprising.

Fit- Very tight at first, once you get your head in there, don't worry about it falling out, it wont. Once your noggin is inside, it is comfy. I am looking forward to breaking this helmet in for sure.

Weight- Wow, less than i expected, way less. Awesome.

There is also a warranty of you crash, schuberth will pay (help you pay) for a new one!

Overall, wow, my expectations are just blown away. With my other helmet (shoei) i was having huge buffeting issues, and the airflow was directed right at my eye balls. No good. The schuberth is worth every penny.

GO GET ONE!

This thing is STUNNING!!!!! I ordered an XL per my sizing. When I tried it on, it felt like a MEDIUM. If you order this helmet, I'd go up a size to be safe. I'll reorder this again.

For the ergonomics, vision and protection. What I really like about this helmet is that It's easy to put on and hard to take off. In an accident you never want your helmet coming off of you. This is the best helmet I've owned to date and worth the money

I used to ride Fulmer, Bell and Shoei. I wanted to try a different helmet so I was shopping for an Arai when a friend told me about Schuberth. I looked into the product and found a local dealer who had one (not the correct size for me) I could see. I was very impressed with the quality. I decided that Schuberth would be my next helmet.

Hi guys!

I'm wondering how this helmet would fair if I was commuting to and from work everyday and if I wore it for the occasional 2-6 hour long distance ride? I'm just looking for the best helmet I can get in terms of comfort and safety.
Aytac i on Nov 11, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I've owned this helmet for about 6 months and have to say that this is the most comfortable helmet I have ever owned. Good thing too as it sure costs a fair bit of coin.

All kidding aside, I have commuted with this helmet in NYC traffic and ridden all day. It has two locations where I cane feel the helmet pushing or pinching, my forehead and the back of my head. The strange thing is that with this helmet these pressure points NEVER develop into hot points as I've experienced with Shoei or Arai products. If the helmet fits your head the. Go for it.

FWIW. The other Schuberth offerings did not work and the pressure points those helmets created created a burning sensation within 10 minutes that I test wore the helmet.

As for safety I have no first hand experience but comfort and light weight add to less fatigue and this safety.

You said Schuberth offers 3 outer shells in the SR1. Can you tell if the outer shell is different in size between helmets L and XL
A shopper on Oct 22, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The shell sizes for the SR1 are as follows:

(XS-SM) (MD-LG) (XL-2XL)
Riding a Harley Road King is the SR1 going to work in such an upright position?
george K on Sep 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I ride a Heritage Softail snd the SR1 works well. Probably don't get as big a benefit from the adjustable spoiler as being on a sportbike, but it's a nice helmet.
Much has been written about how good the ventilation is. My question is how are the top vents in particular. How close to "wind in the hair" does it get? How do the top vents compare to other Scuberths like the S2 or C3 Pro?
Steve P on Mar 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This is my first Schuberth. I've had a series of the Corsairs from Arai over the last decade, so I'm not going to be any help making comparisons to the other Schuberths. That said, I won't be going back to the Arai. The SR1 is stunningly light, acoustically very quiet (better than the Corsair) and the ventilation is very good. I don't think any helmet is going to give you "wind in the hair" - "Wind in the hair" ain't gonna protect your grey matter... but, I certainly feel a good draft through my hair when I've got the vents open. Enough, that on cool nights, I shut the vents.
What would you recommend for daily commuting (and short trips on weekends): SR1 or C3Pro? C3Pro has a more convenient modular form-factor, sunshield and allows to integrate some bluetooth headsets while SR1 is lighter and safer (4 points in Sharp Test against 3 for C3Pro). Any other considerations?
A S on Apr 27, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Sorry to take so long getting back to you on this, but I hadn't had a chance to use the helmet because of our late spring here in MN. After putting some miles on this helmet I give it 5 stars. It fits me well, it's light and the optics on the shield are great. I bought the 80% shield as well and use it most of the time.

The C3 Pro is a great helmet and I'll buy one of those for my girlfriend.

It works of for trips of all lengths as long as you don't use the chin piece for noise reduction. The helmet with that piece installed becomes a bit aggravating to get off. The helmet is pricey, but worth the bucks. After all it's only your head!
is the sr1 and the sr1 technology the same helmet with different graphics?
A shopper on Mar 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The sr1technology is the same helmet as the standard sr1. To me, this helmet is a definite upgrade from my Shoei x12.
So it says this helmet is below 88 db at 100km/h but most people are saying it's loud. Which one is it. I always wear ear plugs so is that the deciding factor?
Colby H on Jul 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I remember reading the reviews and asking myself the same question! The noise level is not as bad as the reviews claim to be.

When I wear earplugs with the SR1, it's incredibly quiet... Almost too quiet sometimes. When I take them out, I personally find it to be a sweet spot where there's just enough noise to feel connected to my Ducati.

Just a quick note: when the reviews say "Race Fit", they really mean it! Right out of the box it's too tight, so give it a chance to break in.

I wore my SR1 around the house for 20 mins a day and it was the perfect fit by the end of the week. I have ZERO regrets about purchasing this helmet.
is the "white/black" version matte white or glossy white?
Dirceu M on Jun 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hey Dirceu,

The white/black SR1 is a glossy white. I thought it was matte as well, but it's glossy. Still looks great!!

I went on a group ride last night and everyone was checking it out and stopping by to give compliments.

Daniel
Is there a chin curtain that comes with the helmet?
Pedro Cerveza on May 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Nope. But the pads around the bottom of the helmet are larger/more covering than usual.
Hi, I drive a Harley and I am looking for a light weight helmet to travel with. Will this work on a full seated position? Can I instal a bluetooth on it?
Marco Cesar R on Apr 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I ride a Harley and use this helmet. It works well in the upright seated position.
Schuberth has their own bluetooth device for their helmets. It's called the SRC-system, and installs as the neck roll, so you don't have anything hanging off the outside of the helmet.
