Zippers at the knees do not remain secure with riding usage. 2–3 inch creep is the usual which will be tolerable in summer, an annoyance in the cold.
The hip pads are on the lean side so expect to need an upgrade. I replaced them and used the thin pads to augment the knee pad pockets.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I am a fan of Olympia gear.
I have met the owners twice and own two full sets of their gear.
These are my summer pants. They are comfortable and breathe very well. The are well built and the ability to hem the pants without messing with the zippers is great for those of us who are wide of butt, and shorter of leg.

Pros-
Good ventilation
Half leg zipper is sufficient for wearing as an over-pant
Has Zipper for attaching to jacket
Has belt loops(in case buying as over pants but not all the time)
Cons-
They are mesh in some places so not sure how well that holds up to road abrasion
Short conversion looks ridiculous, best option wear shorts underneath and change when stopped
The zipper areas for the short/pants convert are EXTREMELY abrasive. If having to dismount bike frequently this will scrape every time so wearing over pants is nearly required.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I got a pair a couple of months back. One of the first things I noticed out of the box was a lack of hip protection. I re-checked the product description and did not find any mention of hip pads, even though this was available on other Olympia pants. I was annoyed with myself for missing this small detail. It turned me off so much that I was about to give it a one star rating, but decided to wait till I had ridden in it.
It was pretty light. My first impression was that it didn’t feel very “substantial”, with lots of mesh. But that was probably an unavoidable compromise between protection and air flow.
I put it on and tried sitting on my bike to see where I should helm it. Even though it was a bit long when standing, on the bike the length was perfect.
When I bought my older pants, I tried it on standing and squatting and it was OK. But once I sat on the bike the pants rode up high enough to be ABOVE my boots. When it rained, my feet got thoroughly soaked. So I left the Olympia as is. I tightened the Velcro around the boots so that the legs don’t drag on the floor.
However, walking to the bike and back, the zippered area which turns the pants to shorts rubbed against my skin. As it is in the area where the skin is most tender (above the knee), it caused discomfort almost immediately. That got me thinking: why would anyone choose to walk around in a pair of shorts made of rough and heavy duty Cordura? Wouldn’t it be much more comfortable to change to a casual pair? How much space would a pair of shorts take up?
I can understand the rationale for copying this design but, to me, this selling point serves little purpose.
The other day when I finally had the chance to go riding, I wore a thin stretchable pant liner to prevent rubbing. The airflow was still great even with the inner. On the move, my legs didn’t feel hot even in 90 degree Fahrenheit temps.
When stopped, a great feature is the outer zipper which allowed me to unzip the pants up to my knee. This allowed my legs to “breathe” and remain cool while my friends were sweating in our hot and humid weather. I also like to think that the pewter color traps less heat than the sea of black pants of other manufacturers.
Then there are the thigh pockets. These are indeed great pockets. Really deep and cavernous and very assessable, even when sitting on a bike. Together with my AST jacket, there are almost too many pockets!
The buttocks area doesn’t have a rough patch that stops your butt from sliding around your seat. Whether this is good or not depends on individual preference, I guess.
When writing this review, I noticed that removable EVA hip padding is now included in the product description. Mine certainly didn’t have any, so Olympia must have added this feature in their later batches. Well, good for them!
While the loose fit makes the Recon 3 comfortable, I worry if the knee guards will stay in place in a tumble, as some others have noted.
Would I recommend this? Without hip padding, I certainly wouldn’t. But since they seem to have fixed this I guess I would. But my suggestion is to ditch the pants-to-shorts feature and use the money saved on say, improving the armor? I wish mine has the hip padding… :-(
Yes, I recommend this product.

I was intrigued with the zipper to shorts capability. On a recent 3 day ride it came invery handy! Very comfortable, great airflow , not restrictive, perfect summer touring pants. I preferred wearing a thin mid layer I found the material especially around the pockets for the protectors and the zippers annoying. Easy to clean works great.

I ride year round in (mostly hot!) Arizona. I decided to try something cooler than my heavy weight jeans and more protective than light cotton pants. These Olympia mesh pants filled the bill.
They fit well, provide good protection (although could use a little better hip pads), and the air flow makes all the difference in the world. They run pretty true to size. I haven't had the inseam shortened, so they're a little long when standing, but are just the right length when seated on the bike. I think it would be a challenge to find someone who could properly hem them in spite of the special leg bottoms that are supposedly made for easy sewing.
Overall, I think they're a good value - lot's of features without looking too industrial or 'track-only' appropriate. I would definitely buy them again.

Bought the Recon Mesh 3 for a cross country trip. I really liked the extra length on the legs had them hemmed to my length. Pants fit great, ok that is all I can say good now the bad. The zippered legs that turn into shorts great idea bad execution. They do not stay zipped getting on and off the bike and normal riding they come undone. This allows heat to come in through the opening. Also this causes the knee armor to come undone you are then irritated by the stiff side of the Velcro. IMO touring pants need to just stay pants give up on the pant/shorts.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I had bought a pair of Airglide pants from a local motorcycle shop. I wanted to be able to use them as an overpant as well. I tried on a pair that had a 36" waist. It fit well, but would have been tight as overpants, so I ordered a pair with 38" waist. What I did not realize at the time, I had tried on the Airglide 2, which did not have the stretch waist, and Ordered the Airglide 3, which does. The pants are to large for me and I can't return them, I don't want to make the same mistake.

Answer:
They do have sections of the waist band that are elastic. The main method of adjustment is via the belt-loops, but the sections of elastic do help in converting from standard pants to overpants.

Answer:
I fluctuate (unfortunately) from 34-36" . I went with the 34" which I perhaps could add a belt to. Oh and yes there is some elastic in the waistband but not much.

Jacket Size Guidelines
We suggest you use these size charts as a general guide. Variables in weight distribution and height may alter the appropriate size range indicated. As a general rule Olympia Jackets are designed in America, with an "American" body in mind. As such, you will find that Olympia tend to fit more generously then European brands (such as REV'IT, Dainese, Alpinestars and Spidi). If you are in between sizes, we recommend to you to err on the smaller side.

Pant Sizing Guidelines
Olympia pants fit true to size. If you intend on using them as overpants, please go one size up.

Inseam Lengths
Olympia pants are cut with generous inseams to accommodate various riding positions. Olympia EZ hem bottoms (can be hemmed up to six inches) and adjustable knee armor help riders achieve a custom fit

Mens Pants

Men's Waist Size Inseam(in)
30 32"
32 33"
34 34"
36 35"
38 35"
40 35"
42 35"
44 35"

Olympia pants tend to run true to your jean size. Olympia Pants and 1 Piece Suits do not come in "Short" sizes, however the knee armor is adjustable and the bottoms are made to be easy to hem.

Sizing information is provided by the manufacturer and does not guarantee a perfect fit.
