Not too bad I was surprised how little airflow these do have. That could be a good thing in the sense a person could wear these pants when it's cooler outside then a pair that vent very well. I haven't had any issues with over heating even at temps over 90. As far as fit, they fit true to size but expect to have to mess with the armor to get it in the right spot. That process could be easier. Not very simple to move that armor around inside its pocket. With comfort I found the pants to be very comfortable on the bike but not very comfortable walking around. They are somewhat clumsy and clunky when you are off the bike so if you are wearing these thinking you can walk around like normal for extended periods of time, you might want to rethink that. These do have zip off legs to turn them into shorts and they could improve the comfort quite a bit. I haven't tried that so I can't comment on that aspect of these pants. They seem to have a good amount of protection. Like all protection you hope you'll never need it and really don't know how it'll hold up until you do but I'm pretty confident that if I need these to protect me in an off, they will do the job well. Length is only problem I have with the pants. Pants are well built and vent well but are way long! I'm 6' 1" and they are 4-5" to long. June 30, 2014
faulty zippers the connecting zipper has a different tooth than my Olympia jacket so it bunches up awkwardly. The zippers holding the legs on have pulled apart when my feet get hung up on the knee armor and one has broken at the plastic pocket where you put the two halves together. I dont think the leg and the knee pad would stay on in a slide. June 9, 2014
Excellent buy Durable, fit good per sizing chart, look good - not baggy, comfortable, good ventilation for warm weather riding, Velcro and zipper legs, so easy to put on over boots. But, most of all, great price. I wear them over Levi's for cool weather riding and over riding shorts during the summer. June 9, 2014
FINALLY A FULLY PROTECTED PANTS EXCELLENT PRODUCT 34 WAIST WITH STRETCH WAIST BAND & ROOM TO GROW, HAS BELT LOOPS, BEST OF ALL HIP PROTECTORS. QUALITY MATERIALS, & EVERY THING ELSE IS AS IT SHOULD BE WITH AN EXTRA PERK THE OPTION OF ZIP-OFF SHORTS. WILL RECOMMEND TO ALL RIDERS. June 2, 2014
They're.. really the only convertables out there. I've been wanting convertable pants for a long time, when these came on sale I went for it....RZ was helpful in a couple of questions I had on fit, I got the right pair. There was an issue of length I was expecting, I like an inseam of 36", I'm a normal 34"x 34" inseam for street clothes, most bike pants for some reason max out at either 32" or at most, 34", these max at 34". If these came in a 36" or longer length to alter to where I wanted it, I would have given 5 stars. They do allow shortening from 34" without removing zippers, so if you're looking for short, you're in luck. I HATE pants cuffs riding up my ankles over my shoes, my Kawa ZG1000 has an upright, legs bent riding position. I had a specialty sports clothes tailor, "Marina's Stitch in Time" add 3" of length (got the matching OEM cloth Olympia), and now these are perfect, standing normal they bunch up at the ankles, riding they stay completely down at the tops of my shoes, velcro cuffed, snug, perfect. Between the sale price, and the cost of alteration, I'm about where I would be without the sale price, I'm happy. These pants are well made, good armor, as shorts they feel good, I'm wearing my cycling shorts and seperate leg warmers under them so I don't have to strip down to add a thermal layer on the lowers. My REI ultralight waterproof breathable pants fit under these as well as another layer, in summer riding I can use these convertables with my optional gear and not carry heavier pants. (I find I get more use out of seperate layers that work outside of pants as normal outerwear rather then the buit - in OEM layers that work in some pants but not out of the pants, like my Sliders 3-layer mesh pants) May 5, 2014
Great warm weather pants with some protection. Nice pair of summer over-pants. Fits well over light jeans or athletic pants. This summer I will try them over shorts, which should prove comfortable. The protection is fairly light, but much better than a pair of jeans. April 22, 2014
NICE PANTS Pros: Lightweight, mesh helps airflow, can be used as overpant, Cons: The knee and groin still get really hot. Thoughts: these pants are a good, light weight choice April 19, 2014

david h asked: What is the OUTseam on the shorts in a size 36 waist? What is the overall pants OUTseam? I am tall and dont want to look like a dork while wearing the short shorts. Oct 1, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Felix D: Hey David!
I can only answer your question partially as the Recon that I purchased are size 34 not 36. So anyway on the 34 the outer seam on the shorts is 21 1/2 inches and the overall is 45 inches.
The other thing I will add is, if you're not happy with the way they fit ZLA has a great customer service and they will bend over backwards to make you happy with no hassle returns or exchanges. Go for it they are great pants.

Hope this helps you!

Mike L: Hey, just came back from 8,650 mile x country trip. These pants fit well. bit loose for me on the waist but perfect when sitting on bike. The length is great, I am 6'2" with long legs. If your riding in a lot of heat get the light color version otherwise blk is cool. The pockets are perfect for holding wallet, rags, ect.
Good luck.

A shopper asked: I had bought a pair of Airglide pants from a local motorcycle shop. I wanted to be able to use them as an overpant as well. I tried on a pair that had a 36" waist. It fit well, but would have been tight as overpants, so I ordered a pair with 38" waist. What I did not realize at the time, I had tried on the Airglide 2, which did not have the stretch waist, and Ordered the Airglide 3, which does. The pants are to large for me and I can't return them, I don't want to make the same mistake. Jul 26, 2011

Zensai: I own this pair of pants. No elastic nor those adjustable velcro straps.

I had the same issue too as wanting to use it as over pants. I usually wear 33" jeans so ordered 34". It was too small as over pants and needed to order 36".

To make it stay, I had to put belts on which works really well.

My opinion is, you can't really have a pants that works well as commando AND over-pants. It would either be too tight or too loose. Not just the waist but the entire fit along the whole leg.

Chris K: They do have sections of the waist band that are elastic. The main method of adjustment is via the belt-loops, but the sections of elastic do help in converting from standard pants to overpants. Jul 29, 2011

Grifftoothjockey: I fluctuate (unfortunately) from 34-36" . I went with the 34" which I perhaps could add a belt to. Oh and yes there is some elastic in the waistband but not much. Aug 17, 2011

Josh K asked: Any advice for hip pad upgrades for these pants? I was wondering which ones fit into the hip pockets for these pants.

Thanks!!

Andre F: Josh,
I am not aware of any hip pad upgrades for the Recon 3. Probably a good idea to check with Olympia for options...
If you are looking for better protection, anything else is better than the stock hip pads! I would definitely go one size up if you are going to put more substantial pads in...

Jacket Size Guidelines
We suggest you use these size charts as a general guide. Variables in weight distribution and height may alter the appropriate size range indicated. As a general rule Olympia Jackets are designed in America, with an "American" body in mind. As such, you will find that Olympia tend to fit more generously then European brands (such as REV'IT!, Dainese, Alpinestars and Spidi). If you are in between sizes, we recommend to you to err on the smaller side.

Pant Sizing Guidelines
Olympia pants fit true to size. If you intend on using them as over pants, please go one size up.

Inseam Lengths
Olympia pants are cut with generous inseams to accommodate various riding positions. Olympia EZ hem bottoms (can be hemmed up to six inches) and adjustable knee armor help riders achieve a custom fit
