Joe Rocket Phoenix 3.0 Pants 4.1 5 64 64
Great fit, comfortable, good looking. For a 36" waist and 29" inseam I ordered the XL Short. It fits perfect over a pair of jeans. Fits well in seat and legs, not baggy at all. The length is a tad too long with my thick-soled riding boots on, but the velcro closure at the cuff keeps it off the ground. Good comfort all around. The knee armor adjusts to two positions, and mine fit right when adjusted to the lower one. Thick & sturdy knee and hip pads. Airflow seemed good on rides in the high nineties. It has both a rear zipper and belt loops to attach to a jacket. Fairly easy off and on (with boots off). Minor complaints are that the velcro band for the waist closure is a bit short and so comes undone a little too easily, and it has a tendency to bunch up inside the plastic loop it goes through, the hip pads are NOT C.E. rated, and there is NO tailbone pad. Also, I REALLY wish they were available in Hi-Viz yellow. October 6, 2014
Great pants. A tad small and short. After reviewing the size chart I ordered a men's large. It fits but they are really snug in the waist (I wear a men's 34). Also, the pants are too short and hike up my boots when riding. Unfortunately these don't appear to come in a "long". Pants wear well and breathe very well. October 6, 2014
Easy to put on and off but quality and protection is lacking These have zippers that go 3/4 way up your leg so you can step into them with boots and step out of them and throw them in your saddle bag when you get where you are going. There is a convenient pocket on the front of the right leg which is perfect to hold a wallet or phone. However, it is not waterproof so it has reduced functionality. The zippers on the legs are also (inexplicably) two way. In other words you can zip them from the hem up the side of the leg but you can also zip the zipper down from the top of the leg to the hem, leaving the leg flapping open but the cuff attached. I’m not sure what the intended function of this is but if you zip them down by mistake you will ride away with no protection as I did once. The Knee armor is tiny and rides up too high when sitting. The mesh feels very flimsy and I was worried that it would tear in an accident and render the armor useless as it would not stay in place. Airflow is good though. If you do buy these, keep in mind they run small so you need to size up especially if wearing them as over pants. On my fifth or so wear, the inside mesh tore away from the outside mesh causing my boot to hang up every time I put them on. I wore them like that for a week or so and then decided to send them to Joe Rocket under warranty. The warranty department concluded that they were defective and gave me credit through RevZ to purchase another pair. I had only had these for three weeks and did not feel very protected by them so I used the credit to purchase something else. I have to give credit to their warranty but I wish they had put that level of effort into perfecting what could have been a good product. August 28, 2014
Good price and quality. These pants fit slightly more snug than I expected given the sizing charts and such. Other than that, the armor and pads are located well in the riding position and are comfortable with a good amount of airflow. I rode with them this past weekend in 100 degrees with no issues. I have not crashed in them so I cannot speak to the actual protection aspect but feel like the materials could stand up to it with minimal damage. August 25, 2014
Love 'Em I've wore this overpants several times since I received them. Several long trips in them. They wear comfortably. I wore demin shorts underneath them & once I arrived at destination I took off the over pants. My only real issue is that their a little long. I don't believe they can be hemmed. The velcro straps aren't long enough to tighten the legs up enough around my boots to keep the legs from dragging. Otherwise I am planning on purchasing another pair. August 2, 2014
Stitching could be better I bought these basicall because no one else makes riding gear for big riders. Problem is that they are waaaaay to long! If your 6ft 8 then these will be fine if your 6ft then plan on walking all over them. Worn them 5 times and stitching has come loose in crotch area. Not very happy with quality! But had basically no choice of anything else to buy so oh well. If you can find something that fits your size i recommend not buying these, If not then this discription is what you will get! July 29, 2014
Toasty I like these pants - good protection, good fit, looks. But in the summer I get too hot and take them off. They do as good as they can - they seem tough and would help if I were to lay it down. But, if it gets in the 90's I'm going back to me jeans. July 28, 2014
Great pants for the price I was looking for summer riding pants with decent protection, good quality, and a couple of convenience features, for less than $180. I already had 3-season pants (also bought from Revzilla), but they weren't cutting it in the mid-south heat and humidity. Found it right here. I'm 6'-0", 195 lbs., normally wear 36 x 32 jeans, ordered the XL size, and the fit is perfect. Even if it isn't, the adjustable waist takes care of it #one of the features I wanted#. The knee armor sits in the right place, the hip padding is larger than my other pants. I've put about 1000 miles on them and don't see any signs of quality problems - no seams opening, textile unraveling, zippers breaking. Leg zippers are another key feature to me - I like to wear shorts underneath and be able to strip my pants off at extended stops. Whereas some pants have knee-high zippers #which seems useless# and some go to the hip #very functional#, these go up to mid-thigh, which is 'adequate' but requires just a little patience to take off over boots. There are a couple of intermediate Velcro patches to secure the flap over the zipper, which is just an annoyance. IMO they should have put in 12" more zipper and left the Velcro off. I don't like that Joe Rocket uses their own brand name of fabric and rating that you can't compare directly to a denier rating, but I watched a fellow rider go down and her Joe Rocket gear did its job without a scratch on her, so it must be okay. Revzilla also did an awesome job shipping them out the first business day, and their video reviews make all the difference in buying decisions. July 19, 2014

A shopper asked: I want to make sure this is a safe option. I am not sure how abrasion resistant the mesh on the Joe Rocket pants is. Thanks for any insight. Mar 27, 2013

RevZilla: Along with the mesh panels, the Phoenix 3.0's have Joe Rocket's 600D Rock Tex‚Ñ¢ seat and knee reinforcements for better abrasion resistance where you need it most. They already include CE-rated knee armor so if an armored pant is worn underneath, it would be best to remove the included armor. Mar 28, 2013

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Firesmith: Nope, no liner. Mesh in the crotch and upper legs. Ballistic nylon in the seat, hips and knee/shin area. Not going to keep you dry or warm. Definitely summer wear over shorts or jeans. Sep 12, 2011

KLRSam: No, these did not come with a removable liner. That would have made these pants absolutely perfect though. I'm looking for a pair of rain pants for the not so clear days. Aug 22, 2011

I read so many questions here, that would be better answered by calling customer service, than posting questions to the community.

Nancy K asked: Are these sized as an overpant, or should I buy a size up? I'm a 29 waist, so I assume the small would be the best fit even with jeans/cargo shorts underneath. Aug 21, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Todd S: I'm a guy, so not sure if the same fit would apply. But I have a 33 waist and went with a large. I can wear these with or without jeans underneath. I often just wear just a pair of black LD motorcycle underwear underneath because I really got these for summer riding (the LD underwear are black and reach to the knee--which is good because the pants could be a little revealing otherwise!). I sometimes wear medium in riding pants but think if i had gone with the medium in this case they would have been too tight. Aug 22, 2013

Katherine C: I purchased these pants for my husband. He said the waist was a little tight but there was plenty of room in the thighs and calves. He only wears riding underwear under them because he is always hot. The only real complaint he had was the length of the pants. They are way to long and he has had to get pieces of Velcro to wrap around the bottoms to keep them from dragging. Other than that he loves them and wears them every time he rides! Aug 22, 2013
Reply to Katherine Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Jin P: Not sized as overpants. I got a large and it's too tight over my jeans. I'm 5'10", 190lb. Size large in almost everything, including gloves. Like other people said, it's tight in the waist but very baggy in the legs. I think they made a design error but the tags came off so I'm keeping them. May 9, 2014

John H: These are pretty true sized and work as overpants. So if you are a 29 waist, the 29 pant should fit over your jeans or shorts. If you are like 29.5+ then I would go to a 30.

Revzilla has great exchange policies if for some reason you don't like the fit and want a size down or up.

Joseph W: i am a 33 waist and I wear the Medium size pant. I wear shorts or long underwear underneath, but have not tried jeans although I think they would fit ok. Overall great pants with plenty of adjustment. Aug 26, 2013

Jeff R: The Phoenix 3.0 pants are sized to fit over shorts or jeans. I have been wearing them over shorts this summer and they are very comfortable.

Alvaro H: No, they are not sized as an overpant, if you want to use it as an overpant you should buy a size up Aug 22, 2013

Anthony F: These are not sized as an over pant. I wear a Large and there is room in the legs. Aug 22, 2013

A S asked: Looking to buy pants soon!!! Do not know if these would protect me from road rash if I ended up falling? Please let me know. Thanks Mar 12, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Symon B: Since I've not taken a fall in these, I can't really answer this fully. I bought these as a good compromise since I use my CBR for commuting and live in CA. I've used these for nearly 2 years and I like them. In standard street traffic, I'm pretty confident, for freeway use, I think it would depend on the fall. But considering this is a mesh overpants, I think there pretty good. Primarily I wanted something that I can wear over work slacks or jeans when visiting friends, be cool in southern California Weather, be comfortable and easy to take off and on, and also offer enough protection to put my mind at ease in most situations. These do the job. Mar 13, 2015
Reply to Symon Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Belmar D: They should protect you better then the "Denim Jeans Style Pants". They have soft padding in the knee and hip areas, stitching is solid, and flows a ton on air. There is no mesh in the areas where it is common to get road rash so they should work great in a "Low Speed Crash (<40 mph)", but I haven't had a chance to test that theory. May 7, 2015
Reply to Belmar Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Joseph K: I believe that they will. I have worn them for a year and there is padding and leather in all the right spots. Fortunately, I have not had to prove this by experience to date. Good luck. Mar 13, 2015

A shopper asked: i'm looking for something that will fit me... i'm usually wearing a 31x32 jean but want a bit more length because on a sportbike the cuff rides up. will a size S fit? the sizing chart only specifies for a ballistic and alter ego pant Apr 16, 2011

dekaliber: I'm 32x32 in most jeans/pants and these fit me extremely well. The length is a little long standing up but are absolute perfection on a bike with my Sidi Blade (short) boots. Apr 17, 2011
