Saved my life This helmet saved my life. Wrecked when I hit gravel on an S curve in rural farm lands. Was knocked unconscious and slammed the living heck out of my head. Had I been wearing an inferior helmet I would have died that day. Already ordered another one to replace it as I loved the look but more importantly I loved that it more than did its job. When you look at the way it absorbed the impact its quite incredible, I regret not taking a picture to share. On impact it spread the damage across the entire helmet instead of cracking it open where my head hit the pavement, The visor is nice in summertime, along with excellent airflow. These helmets also offer quite a bit of cusomization as you can change the guts, shield, and add a breathguard and/or chin guard. Never fogged on me the entire time I had it, my only gripe is the sticker on the under side of the visor started peeling off almost immediately. All in all a great helmet, my only thing is this is a very oval shaped helmet, so if you are a rounder head person you may need to go up a size but since Revzilla offers free returns for sizing I would not stress it too much. Great for warm weather overall it's a great product. Great airflow, pretty comfortable once it's broken in and the style is second to none. I've rides in about 40 degree weather with this thing and i think it catches too much air for colder weather riding. It's amazing in 90 degree summer heat though. This helmet runs a little small because of the narrow profile (I'm a medium in HJC and Shoei and a large fit perfectly for the variant). The first few weeks it was a little uncomfortable but once the padding is softened up and broken in, it's actually one of the more comfortable helmets I've worn. I would definitely recommend a mirrored visor over the smoked visor if you're going for that type of look due to the fact that the mirrored visor is a lot easier to see through at night than a mirrored visor. I would also recommend using the chin curtain that comes with the helmet because the large opening at the nose tends to catch a lot of bugs and debris at faster speeds. The indents for comm. speakers in the sides of the helmet are also a huge plus. Overall, I really enjoy the helmet and would absolutely recommend it. July 6, 2015
Great helmet, make sure to order one size up Great helmet. Looks great, plenty of room for speakers / microphone if you're using a Sena Bluetooth system or something similar. Air flow is fantastic and so is the field of vision. Some complain about the visor catching the wind and tugging on your head but I've never had that problem. Definitely consider ordering a size up. I'm usually a size large. Ordered a large, when I got it, it went on okay but was painful to take off. It's since worn it and it's better, but I wish I had gotten the XL. Still rubs my face and can get uncomfortable on several hour rides. I don't think I'd be complaining about the comfort with an XL. I also like that it comes with the clear and dark tinted visors. July 3, 2015
Great style This helmet is a sexy beast, yet it has its flaws. The fit is amazing for an intermediate oval head shape. Very comfortable fit on the inside. It is a little on the heavy side though. Air flow is the best I've ever seen, does a great job keeping your head cool on hot rides. The down side to that is the noise level. By far the loudest helmet I've ever worn. I installed a Sena smh 10r for music and phone calls, any speed above 50 and it is extremely difficult to hear. The sun visor is a bit of a chore to get use to. I have a 2 hour daily commute and it gets to be a strain on the neck at times. Looking dead ahead is not that big of a deal but when you turn your head you get a bit of a whip once the wind catches it. The construction is a bit of an issue. The gaskets around the visor and bottom of the helmet came off within a few weeks of use. It may have just been the helmet I got, but its quite an issue for the amount of money spent. On the bright side, Icon is a pleasure to deal with when it comes to exchanges on the warrantee, no sweat return and quick shipment for the replacement. Over all it is a solid helmet. Decent price and a sexy beast. July 28, 2015
Great Helmet!! This helmet is sick, has good ventilation, was able to stay cool in 90+ degree weather. May get a little cold during early spring and late fall but haven't tried it in under 60 degree weather yet. The wind resistance took a little getting used to at highway speeds but I don't really notice it anymore. It's a great looking helmet and is really comfortable on the inside. The only real downside to the helmet is the price point but I had my mind set on it so I had to get it! July 27, 2015
My favorite helmet I love these helmets, this is my second one and wear it every single day. It has great visibility and looks incredible. The visor on top doesn't catch as much wind as you may think. It is certainly manageable for city and highway riding, although track use where you're going 115+.. you may want a different one as you will DEFINITELY notice that visor unless you are fully tucked in under the wind screen. First week review! I just got this helmet recently, so this is more of a first look review. This helmet is a drastic improvement from my old one. It's quieter, more snug, has much better airflow, and is super light comparatively. Out of the box it was tight but so is every helmet you get if you get the right size. The cheek pads are still a bit tight even now whereas the rest of the helmet has broken in nicely, but my cheeks don't hurt after a long ride or anything, but I'm assuming those will loosen up. I was very pleased when I found out that this model has a defog position for the face shield which will come in handy when it gets colder. I immediately changed to a gold mirrored lens and boy, it was a lot more of a pain than I thought it would be, but the gold mirrored has great night time vis as well so I don't really need to switch anymore. I've ridden at highway speeds and higher and can say that the peak is not a huge factor. I actually like the way it keeps my head straight. When head checking, you can feel that it is there but it in no way tries to rip your head off. You learn to head check a certain way with time that makes it even less noticeable, and looking up isn't a problem at all. Over-all a great helmet so far! I absolutely love the way it looks! Everyone who compliments it says I look like master Chief! Anyway, I will be back later for another review. June 24, 2015

David P: This helmet is awesome! I bought the charcoal color and it changes color with different lighting. I added the Gold Mirror shield and even rode with it and night and the visibility was fine. The wind noise is minimal but the visor does catch in the wind with high speed but its not that bad. I wear a size 7 1/8 hat and ordered the helmet in medium. Its a bit tight but eventually it will break in but for now my ears feel like they are going to rip off every time I take the helmet off. Mar 21, 2014

A shopper asked: I want to get a third party Bluetooth but the guys at my motorcycle shop told me that the visor will collect a lot of wind and create a lot of wind/road noise and so I should go with something different. Is that true? How does the helmet do with wind and road noise in terms of bluetooth communications and etc.? Nov 17, 2013

Kyle C: The main idea of this helmet was to bring a lot of air into the helmet. But each air vent has a close switch. As far as a Bluetooth goes. The padding inside does not separate from the shell like most so you have to make sure you can crunch the padding enough for the mounting bracket. I have a scala rider q2. It took some engineering by using longer bolts w nuts to crunch the padding so I could use the bolts that came w the unit. The combo is great and the headset has a noise filter. My wife hasn't complained when we talk on the phone so I think you'll be ok. Good luck. And ride safe. Nov 17, 2013

Shane D: I have the Scala rider G9 which works really well even at 70mph+ speeds while on phone calls. Audio is also great for listening to music and the corded option is great for saving battery on a longer trip.

However you cant mount the unit on with the screw compression backing. You are left with the stick on option which given the shape of the helmet requires adding new adhesive strips even few months!

Great looking helmet! with the dark visor you will get lots of looks stopped at the traffic lights

Payam S: The Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet is a fairly quiet helmet. I would compare it to the noise level of a shoei Qwest. It is very comfortable and well built. The Visor surprisingly does not catch too much air. I ride a sport bike and I commute around 1 hour to work and back at highway speeds. My only issue with the helmet is that the face shield does not go far back enough so it obstructs my field of vision when riding with face shield up.
Overall great helmet, with great looks.

Alain J: I shoud say that the wind shield install on your bike will make the difference. I have the Givi Airflow (2 parts windshield) on my Tiger 800 XC and the wind is no more a problem at any speed. Nov 18, 2013

Ulrich B: An inner shield? Not sure what you mean. It has a great shield, and you can use the clear or the the dark one. I have been using the dark one for about a year now, mostly off road, and other than sticky vent controls it's been a great helmet for me. Nov 15, 2013

A shopper asked: I currently measure at a 22in (rounded) at the circumference of my head (my forehead). It says 22in maxes out at a small, though once the helmet is broken in, would it be pretty snug?
I wore a sevenzeroseven (707) helmet, at a medium- which is about the same measurement at 22in for a medium, but the helmet is broken in for a good 4-5 months and the fit is starting to get ugly (it IS a cheaper helmet).
How are your sizing compared to other helmets like the shoei and arai? (I tried shoei and arai at my local MC store and they all seem to fit really good, but I'm just a bit skeptical on once it is broken in.

james b: In my opinion icon does not fit the same as shoei or arai. Otherwise I would have one of their adventure style helmets. The icon is snug at first but loosens some with wear. I have 2 variant helmets and the older still fits snug but the padding is obviously broken in. Hope this helps May 29, 2014
Reply to james Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Scott B: The helmets size pretty similar to the 707 line, and will break in, though I've found not as much as the cheap 707 liner. The liner for the variant is firm but plush. I would go for the small, though ordering without wearing the helmet first is always a crapshoot. Good luck. May 29, 2014

steven w: It is very similar to Simpson helmets... I went off the size I used to wear in simpson helmets and it was a perfect fit. I used to wear shoei... like this helmet a lot more.

A shopper asked: I'm looking into buying one of these and the size chart recommends to take a XL. I have one street bike HJC helmet and on dirtbike HJC helmet and they're both XXL. So I wonder if the size between the ICON and the HJC are the same? Apr 19, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Guy C: I had an old Arai helmet it was a Large. I stuck to Large even though I was really tempted to go XL. And I didn't regret it, the first couple of rides the helmet was more than snug, but did fit. After a week of daily drive, everything squished into place and the Large is perfect for me.

I don't know about HJC, never had one. But in your case I'd recommend going XL, try it out, (without riding) if it's really too small, you can exchange it, Revzilla is great for that...

my 2 cents.

Joseph T: Icon sizes a bit smaller than others I've found. I wear a large with Shoei and Bell but the large Icon when I first got it was almost painful to wear. Now that it's broken in though, it fits fine, if still just a little tight. Jun 2, 2015

RevZilla: There shouldn't be any complications when mounting a G9 to the Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet. There is more than enough space to fit the clamp and microphone.

If you run into any trouble, give our Gear Geeks a call at 877.792.9455.

HOWARD B asked: Hey all!
Just wondering if anyone could compare sizing of the Variant to a Shoei RF-1100? I wear a medium 1100 at the moment (fits very well albeit could be tighter) but I could fit a small 1100 for a snug "race" fit.
Thanks!

Dave S: Sorry Howard I can't help you there. All I can say is that when I purchased my Variant it fit smaller than expected. Jody M: I cant comment on the UCLEAR HBC100 specifically but I attached my Sena to it with ease. You can either stick it to it with the 3m tape mount or use the clamp and it works perfect. The liner you can just pull out and right where your speakers would go the variant already comes with velcro on it so all you have to do is stick the speaker on. No modding necessary. May 10, 2015
