Icon Airframe Construct Manic Helmet

Those of a certain age may recognize the snarling chin bar grin from the ICON archives. Gone are the fiesta of colors, the greens and reds and yellows that made the Manic such a hit with the K-5 crowd. What is left is a pure skeletal form that reveals the Manic’s true colors. A glossy bone matrix overlaid in black lines of nightmarish demarcation. Frantic scratchings of one possible future. The Construct Manic: an ICON 1000 interpretation of beast mode.

Features:

  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218(US), ECE 22-05(EUROPE), SAI AS1698(AUSTRALIA) & SG(JAPAN) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased in that country
  • Special 'Naked' Finish Fiberglass/Dyneema/Carbon fiber shell
  • Wind tunnel tested and refined
  • Imported

Note: Helmet ships with both Clear and Dark Smoke faceshields.

Nice but pricey I want to start off by saying, I do love this helmet. However, this isn't the first helmet I have owned. With that being said, for 350 bucks, I would have expected this helmet to blow my Scorpion Exo 500 helmet out of the water in every single aspect since that one only cost me about 175. This was just not the case. The liner is comfortable, but scratchy when compared to the silky feel my Exo has. The faceshield features are just cheap feeling with the "locking" mechanism just being a protruding detent which requires quite a bit of force to unlock. I basically dont even bother with it because it is a pain if I need to lift the faceshield while driving. Compared to the Exo, the shield also lifts very cheaply and clicky as opposed to a secure, more fluid motion. This helmet is definitely the winner in air flow, but at the price of being much louder. After all is said and done though, the design on this bad boy is just so freaking sexy. December 11, 2014
Good looking helmet! It looks great in person! With no side plates, in my opinion, looks even better. Switching out the lens' isn't the smoothest operation, but its ok. Large fits a medium with ICON sizing. Great venting, great look, great helmet. A little bit cheaper would be nice, but it's no too bad. December 2, 2014
great product I got this for my boyfriend and he loved it! Said it fits great, very quiet, comfortable, light weight, and has an awesome design. He uses the darker visor that it comes with and says he can still see very well out of it. November 24, 2014
This helmet is perfect I recently got hit by a car from behind and my helmet hit the hood of a car. When I took my helmet off there weren't any scratches or any sort of a mark from that incident, while the hood of the car was completely dented and scratched.. This is a very durable helmet and icon makes the best helmets. Very, Very, Very happy with this helmet. I recommend any riders to really look into and consider getting an icon. December 1, 2014
Saved My Life My first helmet was a Large in a different brand that fit too loose. I got this helmet in a medium and the fit was a lot more comforting. It was snug in the temples. On my first ride I got two compliments on the helmet. I only had this helmet for three weeks until I hit a stopped minivan in the middle of the road. The helmet did a amazing job of taking the impact. I woke up in the hospital with a concussion and a broken wrist. A month and a half later all healed up and I'm here to buy it again! Amazing helmet. Don't know why people say icon is not good. I ride mainly Street and icon is gear for street. And rest the the way it should This is and amazing helmet at a good price . I don't need a $500+ that will withstand impact at 200mph and weighs less then a new born lol. I just need a helmet that will keep me safe and conformable on the street. And the icon Airframe is that helmet. October 13, 2014
Meanest looking lid on the road I've owned this helmet just over a year now and I am still absolutely in love with it. After upgrading from my previous lid the first thing I noticed was the aerodynamics. The helmet feels planted at speed, and highway shoulder checks no longer feel like a right cross to the jaw. My one and only complaint is after normal use the rear wing is starting to crack I wish it was made of thicker more industrial plastic. Love the double d ring clasp, fits my noggin snug, and it looks absolutely GNARLY. Let's be honest, with this toothy grin people compliment it all the time. August 11, 2014
Looks great, but lacks some quality I love the look of this helmet, and I think the idea they had for the changing of the screen is cool, but it's finicky. You have to apply a lot of pressure to get the screen in and there's a lot of cheap, breakable plastic in the gears. I had the unfortunate experience of breaking some of the plastic in the mechanism, but it still functions, thankfully. I probably wouldn't buy it again myself, but now that I have it and know how hard it is to work, I'm fine with it. It's a cool design, looks great, and gets the looks. September 17, 2014

TOM P: Yes, this excellent helmet comes with both clear and smoked visors. I suggest choosing 2 sizes larger than normal. I love the helmet but it seriously undersized.

A shopper asked: I'm looking at getting one of these helmets and would like to know just how loud it is? Apr 23, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Rogelio M: Very comfortable and lightweight. It's not the quietest helmet I've used but it makes up in comfort and stability at high speed. The visor mechanism is easy for visor changes and the pin lock is a necessary feature. It works good with my Q3 bluetooth and it ventilates well. It's good for riding in the southeast in the summertime. I would buy this helmet again and would recommend this also. I also ride with ear plugs over long rides or I use my Bluetooth to pipe in tunes via ear buds. Apr 23, 2014

TOM P: Hi, it is not loud at all, however I ride an R6 with a slashcut exhaust, I only hear my bike. The vents do work great. I will mention it runs very small, order 1-2 full sizes over your normal size. I highly recommend this helmet.
Enjoy, Devin

A shopper asked: How would one compare the Icon Airframe Manic Helmet to the recently released Shoei RF-1200 Phantasm Helmet. I have had two Shoei RF-1000's in the past and love the quality. I really like the style of them both but the Icon has more of my attention. Which is one is recommended? Oct 20, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Brad P: Shoei internals are higher quality than icon without a doubt, and also my shoei has less noise than my icon by a considerable amount, that being said, the icon is still a comfortable, easy to ride in helmet. In short, you're giving up a little substance for a lot of style when choosing the Icon over the shoei, IMO Oct 21, 2013

Carlos O: Go with the Shoei!! The Icon is extremely sharp in appearance, however it is extremely loud at speeds above 50. The RF series is much more comfortable, sleek, and quiet. Oct 20, 2013
Reply to Carlos Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Chadwick C: Sounds like the Icon would be a better choice but I do a lot of traveling above 50 mph and never ride without earbuds. If anything quality is what concerns me the most. With that said my RF-1000 fogs horribly and drives me nuts. Ive also got a Scorpion for my wife. It works for her but you can tell the quality just isnt there in comparison. Oct 21, 2013

Vernen L: Get the shoei. Be the same as you as you always are. Change is not good for you.. . Oct 21, 2013

A shopper asked: I read all of the reviews and looked at the sizing chart and I am trying to decide exactly what size I should try without hopefully going through with having to return it for a different size. I am boarder line XS to SM, I measure the crown of my head the best I could and came up with 21 1/4" to 21 1/2". So just need a little guidance with getting a XS or a SM. Mar 23, 2013

Anthony A: The Icon in my opinion is more plush and a slightly tighter fit then the shoei. With the airframe in particular there is alot of ventilation above your head. The only plus for the shoei, is that the visor comes off way easier then the icon proshields. Also, the Shoei is like 150 bucks more. Oct 21, 2013
