Icon Airframe Construct Manic Helmet

Those of a certain age may recognize the snarling chin bar grin from the ICON archives. Gone are the fiesta of colors, the greens and reds and yellows that made the Manic such a hit with the K-5 crowd. What is left is a pure skeletal form that reveals the Manic’s true colors. A glossy bone matrix overlaid in black lines of nightmarish demarcation. Frantic scratchings of one possible future. The Construct Manic: an ICON 1000 interpretation of beast mode.

Features:

  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218(US), ECE 22-05(EUROPE), SAI AS1698(AUSTRALIA) & SG(JAPAN) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased in that country
  • Special 'Naked' Finish Fiberglass/Dyneema/Carbon fiber shell
  • Wind tunnel tested and refined
  • Imported

Note: Helmet ships with both Clear and Dark Smoke faceshields.

Very aerodynamic helmet; Awesome airflow! After considerable research I sent out a link for the black, solid color, ICON Airframe as a gift suggestion for Father's Day. I've had a Shoei RF 900 Blade for about 13 years and it was time to put that helmet out to pasture. My wife and kids did not let daddy down, as I knew the wouldn't, and I got my helmet for Father's Day. Boo-yah! First off, this is a great looking helmet. The Airframe looks even better than the photos and I could not be happier with appearance of the helmet. Also, the fit was absolutely spot on. I have a small, narrow, oval head and the size small fits like a very comfortable glove with no excessive pressure on my head or cheeks. Where I think this helmet truly shines is aerodynamics. The Airframe was rock-solid at highway+ speeds with little to no buffeting, even when riding upright. I was even more impressed when doing head-checks. I could not feel any discernible change in pressure on the helmet (or my neck) even when my head was turned 90 degrees. The airflow on this thing was fantastic, much better than the helmet it is replacing. I was riding in 97 degree weather today and my head was cool on the highway. So refreshing! Uh, this helmet is effing LOUD! Did I mention the awesome airflow? The airflow/noise issue is a natural give and take and you have to compromise one to get the other. In the summer I will gladly take the airflow and wear some additional hearing protection as I think is warranted. I have had a number of helmets and brands over the years but the RF has always been my favorite primary. I think that is about to change. I really, really like this helmet. June 25, 2015
Icon Airframe I am an asian with a very round head. This helmet was recommended to me by an customer service representative from revzilla. It fits slightly longer than my head but it is a good and secure tight fit. I cannot complain. I have to say that I like it very much. It fits my round head quite well, despite that it is slightly longer. It is quite comfortable except sometimes the chin strap sees to feel tight around my neck, but when i'm riding i don't notice it. Great Helmet!! Something popped into my head and was all about safety. Previously riding with a 3/4 helmet i knew i wasn't getting full protection in case of an accident. I wanted a helmet that fits just right without feeling claustrophobic inside neither looking like a bobble head. This helmet fits just right!! I'm 5'3 and this helmet doesn't look bad on me despite the fact i'm wearing a large! It's not as easy as my open face but I can still wear my glasses inside. I can turn my head without any trouble. The vents work great! You can feel the air stream through your head and the front of your face. Though the top vents DO work better when your face is tilted than when its up straight. My only complain about this helmet is noise level. There is a LOT of wind noise! I was expecting less noise than my open face, but it's opposite. This helmet does way more noise! Over all great helmet! If you don't like the noise wear ear buds ;p May 24, 2015
Best looking helmet on the market I absolutely love the way this helmet looks, you can see the fiberglass through the clear coat. I get compliments on the helmet just about every ride I do. My only complaint is the wind noise is fairly loud in this helmet. It would get 5 starts all around if it was a little quieter. That being said, I would buy this same helmet if I had to do it all over again :) April 6, 2015
Great flowing helmet I chose the Icon Airfame in the Rubatone finish as it matched my matte black bike. I previously owned an Icon competitor which was a great helmet and served its purpose in a bad accident hence my new purchase but I must confess the Airframe from Icon flows a tremendous amount of air and for a guy like me that sweats a lot in the Miami sun; it keeps my head cool especially with this huge exhaust ports. The Airframe also won me over as the overall look/style of this helmet is great and gets a lot of compliments. The only negative comment I have is the amount of time to swap the visor because the extra time you take to replace the side plates from visor to visor so, I solved this problem by purchasing another set of side plates to keep them on each visor. May 18, 2015
Great field of vision, solid construction The Airframe is light weight and has a great field of vision. The construction is solid and design is on point, just as you would expect from Icon. Airflow is exceptional, although a little bit too much on those cold morning commutes. Noise level is average, the helmet is not quiet but at the same time it's nowhere near loud. I find the fitment to be pretty true to size with my XL fitting just as it should based in Icon's size chart. All and all, the Airframe is a great helmet at a great price. I have recommended this helmet to friends and would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying one. April 6, 2015
Protect your melon friends! This helmet is miles above my old one... Let's break it down. Pros: Very light (compared to my old one), can turn head all the way around (little to no buffeting on a sport-standard seated position "upright"). Vision, The range of view is crazy good. and you really gotta work to fog this guy. (gasket forms a great seal, but it's relatively new still so this opinion may change) Controls, The controls are very friendly to operate with a gloved hand Except the internal chin vent dials. (Caveat: That pin-lock is really tough to pop open the first dozen or so times) Cons: Changing the visor... Have you ever attempted to open a can of beans using a cooked noodle, and your bare hands? That's about what this process is like friends. Step 1: remove visor, "alright those orange release tabs are built for tiny fingers made of magic, but done." (elapsed time: 5mins) Step 2: removing side plates... HAHAHAHAHA "bare hands Fail, a credit card to slide under there FAIL, pair of pliers to push the plate off from the back FAIL, Spray with visor cleaner for possible lubrication FAIL AGAIN! (Considering the use of hair dryer on the sideplates) better check youtube"...(Elapsed time: 23mins) "REALLY, got it with his hands on the first try!" (Elapsed beers: 2) 2nd attempt: got tip of finger between plate and visor, pulling, pulling, pulling, "POP" "Oh my god did I break it, sounds like I just broke it... NOPE that was my fingernail it's now bent the wrong way. (Elapsed beers: 6) 3rd attempt: Time for the big guns... "Hey babe, can you pull this plastic plate off of this visor?" "Sure"... "pop..pop" "Want me to do the other side?" "GAWD, REALLY?... Yes, I would like you to do the other side please" "pop..pop" "here you go." so that's how that's done. So far it's been a great helmet, looks great (rubatone for the win) the cheek-pads are a bunch thicker then you'd imagine and you can get a little snug in there, but they are breaking in just fine, I'd say the helmet runs small but not a full size small, if you're on the cusp in sizing, consider replacing the cheek-pads to compensate. -I would buy again March 16, 2015
Cool helmet I've been looking for a good women's helmet that is stylish without the pink and purple butterfly's and stuff like that. This helmet is fierce! I love it! February 16, 2015

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Benjamin F: Because I highsided at the track in my old icon ravenous and it did a brilliant job protecting me from impact. It was also the best helmet I've owned in terms of fit and comfort and I figured I'd get a step up from that. May 1, 2015

A shopper asked: I'm looking at getting one of these helmets and would like to know just how loud it is? Apr 23, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Rogelio M: Very comfortable and lightweight. It's not the quietest helmet I've used but it makes up in comfort and stability at high speed. The visor mechanism is easy for visor changes and the pin lock is a necessary feature. It works good with my Q3 bluetooth and it ventilates well. It's good for riding in the southeast in the summertime. I would buy this helmet again and would recommend this also. I also ride with ear plugs over long rides or I use my Bluetooth to pipe in tunes via ear buds. Apr 23, 2014
Reply to Rogelio Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
TOM P: Hi, it is not loud at all, however I ride an R6 with a slashcut exhaust, I only hear my bike. The vents do work great. I will mention it runs very small, order 1-2 full sizes over your normal size. I highly recommend this helmet.
Enjoy, Devin

A shopper asked: Hey I purchased this helmet yesterday. Does anybody know what all comes with it,other than the clear shield ? For instinse a helmet bag or wipes anti fog spray? Any other extras? Mar 11, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jonathan V: It comes with a clear and dark smoke shield. It also comes with a helmet bag that converts to a sling backpack, and a wipe cloth and a cleaner spray. The Icon visors are some of the best out there for anti fog. Mine never fog up. Unfortunately my Manic gives me a bad hotspot on my forehead, so I only use it for short trips. It is a sick looking helmet though in person. Mar 12, 2015

A shopper asked: How would one compare the Icon Airframe Manic Helmet to the recently released Shoei RF-1200 Phantasm Helmet. I have had two Shoei RF-1000's in the past and love the quality. I really like the style of them both but the Icon has more of my attention. Which is one is recommended? Oct 20, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Brad P: Shoei internals are higher quality than icon without a doubt, and also my shoei has less noise than my icon by a considerable amount, that being said, the icon is still a comfortable, easy to ride in helmet. In short, you're giving up a little substance for a lot of style when choosing the Icon over the shoei, IMO Oct 21, 2013
Reply to Brad Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Carlos O: Go with the Shoei!! The Icon is extremely sharp in appearance, however it is extremely loud at speeds above 50. The RF series is much more comfortable, sleek, and quiet. Oct 20, 2013
Reply to Carlos Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Chadwick C: Sounds like the Icon would be a better choice but I do a lot of traveling above 50 mph and never ride without earbuds. If anything quality is what concerns me the most. With that said my RF-1000 fogs horribly and drives me nuts. Ive also got a Scorpion for my wife. It works for her but you can tell the quality just isnt there in comparison. Oct 21, 2013

Vernen L: Get the shoei. Be the same as you as you always are. Change is not good for you.. . Oct 21, 2013

Gery R asked: does this Icon Manic comes with Inked liner & cheeks pads or comes with standard hydra dry liner & cheeks pads ??! ... Apr 5, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Justin K: It comes with just the standard hydra dry liner/pads however they are styled to look like black with white spots. I can assure you the dye does not run in hot/sweaty conditions, and is very comfy and absorbs sweat marvelously. Apr 7, 2015

Thomas H: Only comes with the standard hydra dry liner with black and white spots. Liner works well and colors do not bleed. Apr 27, 2015

A shopper asked: I read all of the reviews and looked at the sizing chart and I am trying to decide exactly what size I should try without hopefully going through with having to return it for a different size. I am boarder line XS to SM, I measure the crown of my head the best I could and came up with 21 1/4" to 21 1/2". So just need a little guidance with getting a XS or a SM. Mar 23, 2013

Anthony A: The Icon in my opinion is more plush and a slightly tighter fit then the shoei. With the airframe in particular there is alot of ventilation above your head. The only plus for the shoei, is that the visor comes off way easier then the icon proshields. Also, the Shoei is like 150 bucks more. Oct 21, 2013
