HJC FG-17 Force Helmet
Great, sharp looking helmet
As a new rider I was looking for a comfortable helmet that wasn't horribly expensive. I really like the look and feel. I'm glad I bought this helmet as my first, it sets the bar pretty high for value, comfort and quality.

This is a nice helmet
This helmet is a nice helmet. I think my head is a little more oval than this helmet is designed for. But it fits well enough. Air flow is good. I have around 250 miles on the helmet with no fogging issues and it seems to be breaking in good. The fit is better than when it was new.
The service from Revzilla is second to none. There guys know their stuff and are willing to take time to discuss your needs and help you pick out the right equipment. The customer service will keep me returning to Revzilla.

Good basic helmet
I bought this as my first helmet because of the price and the Snell rating. No complaints so far. Chinstrap feels like it rides on my throat a little, but nothing too distracting. Decent airflow and I haven't had a problem with the visor fogging. Don't have any other helmets to compare it to, however.

I haven't worn helmets in years, but this helmet is sure more comfortable than I remember them.
The fit was just as the size chart described for me. The ventilation system seems to have good air flow. And the locking front shield is very convenient to locate if you want to open it for a little more air.
Overall I am pleased with the purchase.

My first helmet. I like it because it is very visible and it has enough room that I can wear my prescription glasses with it. It also has great air flow so I haven't felt hot in it in over 80 degree weather.

Best so far.
This is my fourth HJC in 9 years. Bell and Shoei had been previous purchases. HJC provided a high quality product for a reasonable price and have continued in that vein. For whatever reason HJC also seemed to be one of the only manufacturers whose products I could wear comfortably with my specs.
This FG17 is light, comfortable, provides pretty good air circulation/cooling ( a 160 mile ride in 90 degree temps just this last weekend proved that), is the quietest HJC I've owned so far and looks pretty cool too.
I'm particularly impressed by the aforementioned quietness and the new RPHA derived visor locking mechanism which is located front and center now.
Couldn't be happier with this lid.Under 200 bucks too!
What's not to like?

Great for the price!
All in all this helmet is amazing for a sub $200 helmet. You get a fiberglass shell that is also SNELL rated, not bad if I do say so myself. But to be honest no one reads reviews for what people like about it but rather what they don't like about it. I have two complaints about this product. The first being more of a minor annoyance. I have found that when you have the visor all the way down but not locked in place that it will actually create a high pitch whistle inside the helmet. It's obviously an easy fix because all you have to do is lower the visor but still notable. The second being my only real complaint. The chin strap is in a HORRIBLE position! Unless your neck concaves into itself the chin strap will rub your neck raw. The only solution I have found to this is by loosening the chin strap. This doesn't bother me because I like my helmet tight but for all the 'loose' riders out there this could be an issue. All in all it's a great helmet for the price. For sub $200 you really can't ask for anything else... except a new chin strap placement. :)

4.5 star helmet with a couple of nitpicks
Noob street rider here, first street helmet. Besides safety, ventilation was my primary concern. I didn't think the little top vents would do much, but to my surprise, the helmet ventilates very well. I can actually feel the cool air passing over my head as heat is sucked out. I ride an upright naked bike and the ventilation is more pronounced if I tilt my head just slightly forward. While it's still comfortable slightly tilting my head, it's not the natural riding position of my bike, but the helmet has still done its job remarkably well. I can still feel the air passing through fully upright, and tilting my head just slightly forward provides a cool breeze. I kinda like that. I have yet to break a sweat in the Georgia summer heat and humidity. I am very pleased. The chin vent channels air up the face shield and onto your forehead and face which has kept me really cool with the shield fully closed. I really like this well thought out design.
It is extremely comfortable and the helmet looks to be well made. It's light and I have had it on for hours without any signs of fatigue. I'm really glad I opted for the FG-1 7 over the CL-17. It comes with the pinlock anti-fog insert, so by the time I would've bought it for the CL-17, there would've been a $15 difference. This is the better deal for sure. I got the Force in matte black and it looks great. Very classy, not flashy at all. I think I can use this helmet for a few different style bikes, so that is a big bonus.
The helmet is very quiet at speeds under 60. Over 60, things get loud, but I don't have anything to compare it to. On a naked bike, wind is going to be a factor so I'm sure there are much louder helmets out there. The face shield is exceptionally clear and seals up very well. I got the optional chin curtain though I haven't had to use it. The airflow does not come under the chin at all. I have not used the pinlock anti-fog yet either and I have not had any fogging issues. Although, i imagine it's more so a problem in cold weather.
I also wear my Rayban Aviators with the helmet and they fit perfectly. They stay in place and now i don't have to buy a dark faceshield. I can also ride with the face shield up on slower streets and still have eye protection. I love the versatility of this combo.
As for gripes - the helmet shell is bigger than I would've liked thanks to its SNELL rating. I could do without SNELL to make the shell just slightly smaller. That would've allowed for a drop-down sunshade too. Oh, well. It's not larger than comparable helmets, don't get me wrong. I'm just new to helmets and I realize they are all HUGE for a reason. I guess I have to spend some real money to have it all. It's certainly not any bigger than a dual-sport helmet I tried first. That thing was massive. The FG-17 I can live with as it looks really good! Anyhow, I'm also not a huge fan of the D-ring strap. I'm getting more used to it and am getting pretty fast at on/off but I still prefer the Euro style ratchet type that I can operate with gloves. That's just a preference, though.
Overall, i am quite pleased with this helmet and would recommend it to anyone on many different style bikes. Hopefully, some of this info will help you decide which helmet to buy. I know it took me a few weeks and a few returns to find mine. Thanks to Revzilla, it was quick and cheap to do so ($7 per return shipping). And when you call them, the people answering the phone actually know what the H they're talking about! These guys are top notch! As far as fit, I wear a Med in AFX and GMAX dual sport/MX helmets, but got a large FG-17 and the fit is perfect! I have a roundish head that measures right at 22.5-23" (57-58.4cm) so I think they run just a tad on the small side. Ride safe!
