HJC FG-17 Force Helmet 4.5 5 152 152
Overall, a good intro helmet This is my first helmet so I don't have a benchmark to rate it against. I've had the helmet for a little over a year now and have put about 10k miles of riding on it including 7200 mile trip this summer. The helmet fits great and the interior has kept up well. However, the exterior yellow paint has faded quite a lot since my cross country trip. The helmet feels really bulky but doesn't weigh enough to make it awkward. The helmet is very noisy at high way speeds even with the chin curtain (sold separately). I'm not sure if the majority of helmets are this loud but it was deafening without ear plugs and I could barely hear my Sena 20S at full volume (without plugs of course). The upper venturi vents provide a noticeable cooling effect. The front vent blows directly up and into my eyes. Since there are no screens on the front vents, small bugs and dirt can be blown directly into your eyes if you are not wearing sunglasses underneath. The visor has a very well made front latch that is easy to open and close. It makes an audible click when locked. The visor does not have very secure base plate positions between fully open and fully closed so it will begin to close in high winds. Finally, I dropped the helmet about a third of the way into my trip and the visor broke out the locking clip on the base plate and the visor was scratched up pretty bad. From Texas to California and back to North Carolina, I stopped at every cycle shop and dealer along the way; not one of them had the base plates or visors in stock. Most brick and mortar locations do not carry HJC parts or accessories. Overall, I am happy with the price paid and the overall build quality for a first helmet. August 17, 2015
Works for me This is the first full helmet I have owned so I waited a year to review. I have a 55 mile commute and no issue with helmet when I arrive. I think it is very comfortable, and lightweight. A little noise at 70 mph on the road but again I have nothing to compare it to, I now wear ear protections and noise is not a problem. Bottom line I like this helmet. August 13, 2015
Protected my head during a crash :) What else can you ask for? This helmet did what it was advertised to do and protected my head during a crash (took a turn too wide [target fixation]). This was my first helmet so I don't have anything to really compare it to but it fit snug, if not a little small. Slightly heavy and large but all SNELL helmets are similar. Considering the price of this, well worth the smaller issues. I also bought the pinlock to go with for the anti-fog, highly recommended. I'll probably buy an ECE rated helmet next just to see if I prefer the lightweight better... would buy again! July 12, 2015
Looks Sharp! And performs well. Out of the box, the helmet is mint! Design is sharp and very cleanly done. inner padding is removable (big plus). And is also fairly light. Aerodynamics are pretty good, for this price point. They definitely improved upon previous models. Good ventilation, but will still fog ever so slightly in the morning dew hours. However, they do provide a Fog lense insert with the purchase (big plus). And it works as it should. Only negative: I have sharp facial features, and find the strap a little uncomfortable when i first throw it on. But once I jump on the bike and get going. It either adjusts to the right location, or I'm just enjoying myself too much to notice. August 18, 2015
Great bang for the buck Very comfortable. Somewhat loud but I generally wear earplugs anyway. Very happy for the price point. August 13, 2015
Great helmet, great value, Snell rated Very light. Good ventilation. Wind noise less than my HJC IS-17. Seems to have better aero. Snell rated for track days. Interior cushions feel firmer and not as plush feeling as my IS-17 but may be because helmet is new. Big plus for me: The way the cheek pads join the padding in the crown leaves a nice slot for glasses just like my IS-17. If you wear glasses either helmet is a good pick. August 6, 2015
Pretty darn good. I chose this helmet because of the HJC reputation, confirmation from Revzilla folks that's it's a good helmet for what I was looking for, the price point and the positive reviews. I can't speak for true safety because I haven't had it in a fall yet. I hope I never do. But it is also SNELL approved as well as DOT (of course). I am right in the middle of two sizes so I sized down (small). I'm glad I did because I think the size up would've given too much wiggle room. I wanted a snug comfortable safe fit. This "fit" the bill. It's snug and when I first wore it for a full weekend (5 hrs at a time, in the rain both days) it had a hot spot by my ear. I've worn it numerous times since and that spot no longer exists. I don't find an issue with venting or the weight. I've ridden it in 85+ degree temps in the summer with no heat issues at all. I crack the shield open a tiny bit when at 45 or lower speeds to increase airflow (sometimes nice just to feel the breeze). When I was in the rain, the visor did fog up. But I think something to reduce fog if riding in the rain might be good to have. I'm having difficulty finding sunglasses to fit that don't pop up onto the ridge of my brow due to the padding and making the glasses uncomfortable. I'm not willing to adjust the great padding just for glasses so a tinted visor or screen might be next on my search to deal with sun glare. I haven't had to switch out the visor yet so I can't speak to the ease of doing that at this time. Visibility is good. At high speeds (70mph+) there is a bit of noise (sans windshield). Nothing major but I'm sure on really long drives it won't be good for your hearing/noggin. I opted for the silver for cager visibility and well, I just like it. :) I prefer to be seen so I can ride another day. I really like this helmet and would suggest it to the average rider with average sized/shaped noggin. PS: I can't wear earrings with it. It's too snug and will just pull too hard when taking it on/off. In photo also from Revzilla: Jacket (AGV Sport Women's Lotus Leather Jacket); Gloves in my hand (Joe Rocket Women's Cleo Gloves). August 2, 2015
First Helmet For being my first helmet, other than the promotional one I revived from the dealer. It fits me perfect I love the look and the feel. It's not super heavy good airflow over when I need to go air-o on my FZ-07. The only two things that I may not necessarily love is the fact it gets a little hot so I ride with the visor up during traffic but with speed flows well. The second thing is the chin straps. My Acne breaks ouy because I can not remove the straps to wash them. Liner comes out and goes back in relatively easy. It's just the straps July 25, 2015

JOHN GRILLI J: Mainly the price point along with the features offered! I did get to try it on in the Philly store a couple years ago and it wasn't as comfy as the Arai but then again its not $600 either. Apr 3, 2015

Mark P: Great reviews and compared to the CL-17 much more "bang for buck." Oct 15, 2014
Christian N: The video was extremely helpful along with the customer reviews. Ultimately, it's got a great price for a dot & snell approved helmet. A lot of positive feedback from other customers that purchased it and of course nice design/look. Oct 13, 2014
Steven P: returned to revzilla due to conflict with glasses Oct 10, 2014
Dan C: upgrading my cl-16 Oct 3, 2014
Carl B: It had a great look and it is also Snell approved so I know that it provides great protection. All this for under $200, that is a steal! Sep 10, 2014
" ": Because i wanted a safety first helmet with little frills and a good price, after using it for a couple off weeks i would say it fulfilled that role well, vents could be better at moving air but I think the field of view is better than my rf1000. Sep 6, 2014
Jeffrey S: Cause it's badass yo Aug 21, 2014
Matthew W: Based on months of research for products within a similar price-point, this helmet seemed like the biggest bang for the buck and it came highly recommended from the RevZilla team. Thank you! Aug 5, 2014
Christopher L: Good fit, light weight, right price. Jul 21, 2014
Martyn C: It cost less than 200 dollars. It features pinlock anti fog technology and I love the ease of visor removal and replacement. It will be my fourth HJC. These helmets present no problem for me as a specs wearer. I have an FS15 Surge, and AC12 Carbon. My First HJC is so old that I've forgotten the model name. It is very "chromey" and doesn't get used anymore. The AC12 is nearing the end of it's life so the Surge is about to become a workaday commuting lid and the FG will be "for best". Jun 17, 2014
George M: I like HJC . I have been buying there helmets for years. Jun 9, 2014
Emile N: 1. DOT and SNELL certified 2. In my price range May 30, 2014
DEXTER H: Only fiberglass AND Snell M2010 rated helmet under $200. Also fits my head shape, and is comfy. May 28, 2014

Wesley C: price point and pin lock Apr 15, 2014
Matt F: Matte-Black done well. Pin-Lock included in the box. Price is right! Feb 1, 2014
Jonathan M: From what I have seen this is the best bang for the buck. Has all the bells and whistles of a much more expensive helmet and it looks good too. What is not to like about this helmet? Jan 22, 2014
Tim v: One of the few high-viz helmets that isn't ugly :-) Jan 15, 2014
Jim M: Snell rated, low cost. Nov 14, 2013
Michael P: I use the same helmet on my race bike during track days and events. Excellent quality and protection. Oct 16, 2013
Adrian A: looks dope Oct 12, 2013
"" ": it's fiberglass kevlar matrix with Snell approved for a great price. I would have paid more for other well known brand helmets for the same features. It fits my head snuggly. Sep 29, 2013
Aaron F: I chose this helmet because it's high viz but still has style. I ride an all black bike, so visibility has to come from my gear. Haven't gotten it yet, but I'll leave a review when I get it! Sep 18, 2013
Tasma H: Reasonable quality f/glass composite lightweight helmet for my son on the track Sep 9, 2013

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Donald S: I purchased the HJC FG-17 Force Helmet about 9 months ago and It was well worth the money. I purchased a Sena Smh10 universal Bluetooth headset dual pack. That included a microphone and speakers. The arrangement fit perfectly. You cannot feel the speakers and the microphone does not get in the way. The wind noise is not a bother. I would recommend this helmet to everyone. Jun 30, 2014

Cesar O: A place for that, it doesn't has, but you can put them stuck inside the helmet, but it can be uncomfortable.
About the soundproof is great, I've got other helmet as Shoei and at the moment HJC is better. All the structure of this helmet is great!

Dan C: You r better off calling a revzilla geek but here goes. I don't use a Bluetooth device so wouldn't know. Anthony's video review I believe says,"no."
Noise is moderate. I try And use earplugs when ever I ride on the highway or for extended distances anyway. and I think I would with any helmet

Diego R: Hey unfortunately we returned the helmet and never tested it out beyond the fit. So I took my wife back to try a Shoei RF1100 and even though she was an oval to begin with, the RF-1100 was a much more refined fit. Truth be told it cost more but but it couldn't be more spot on despite the $150.00+ price hike. I don't remember this helmet having the pockets for speakers. My Suggestion is give Shoei a try, Yes it's more expensive but you won't be disappointed. Noise is somewhat irrelevant because you should be riding with ear plugs if you exceed 45-50mph or have a louder aftermarket slip-on or full exhaust. Jun 30, 2014

Aaron A asked: Is it a good upgrade from a cl-17? Oct 9, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Dan C: I upgraded from a CL-16 which was my first full face. Not a big leap. Slightly lighter but otherwise the same. I like the fit. The FG uses a piece on the center of the face shield to lift up versus left side for CL. I got my FG for the hi viz color. And when I went in the Revzilla boutique store in Philly, Bobby showed me I needed a XL not an XXL. When I replaced the cheek pads and liner for my CL I got XL which worked because there are the same size shell.
Hope this helped. I have never had any other helmets so u can't compare to other brands. I do like the pinlock system. Before I got an MX helmet I would take the face shield on and off easily for off road riding.
Basically I can't tell much difference but I don't concentrate on my helmet much cuz it fits and does its job.
