Gaerne GP-1 Racing Boots

The all-new GP1, the latest product from Gaerne’s research and development centre, is the ultimate racing boot! Close collaboration with Champions, technological innovation, attention to detail and comfort, Italian styling and fifty years of passion and experience characterize all Gaerne products.

  • GAERNE FLOATING SYSTEM:

The unique Gaerne Floating System, made of carbon composite, allows the foot to move naturally and prevents ankle twisting without compromising flexibility. At the back of the boot, and fixed at two points, it runs inside two slots that limit movement in both directions preventing hyper extension or compression.

External polyurethane protectors minimize the impact of a fall and facilitate sliding.

  • SHOCK ABSORBING HEEL CUP:

Non-deformable polyurethane heel cup is protected by a replaceable low-friction magnesium slider. Anti-shock heel features an internal comfort-enhancing decompression zone, located between the insole and sole; the inserts are highlighted externally in red.

  • ADJUSTABLE CALF CLOSURE SYSTEM:

Adjustable and replaceable “micrometric” carbon-look buckle enables a custom-fit around the calf area.

  • SLIDER:

High- wear-resistant magnesium toe slider allows for totally free foot movement. Attachment points are well away from the areas that normally suffer from abrasion.

  • FRONT SHIN PLATE:

Made of PU and anatomically shaped, it is easily replaceable via two screws. The nylon front slider is also interchangeable.

  • CLOSURE SYSTEM :

The internal zip is protected by a rubber strip. An elastic insert in the ankle area facilitates the closure of the boot.

  • UPPER PART:

Made of Lorica, a supple, comfortable and breathable high-tech material. Elasticized instep with polyurethane inserts ensure a snug fit and a high level of comfort and durability.

  • GAITOR:

Air-vented polyurethane collar is resistant to heat and fits the calf perfectly.

  • GRIP GUARD:

Two rubber inserts (inner calf and heel) provide additional grip and protect the leg from engine/exhaust heat.

  • SOLE:

Variable density, oil and wear-resistant, rubber sole features a unique design that provides excellent grip.

  • INNER SOLE:

Fully removable and washable anatomically designed foot-bed ensures even weight distribution and provides full support to all parts of the foot. The heel is reinforced with a special shock absorbing material and the toe-area is perforated for improved air flow.

  • SHIFTER PROTECTION:

Anatomically shaped polyurethane protector provides maximum feel when gear-shifting and additional toe protection.

  • INNER LINING:

Antibacterial and breathable pre-shaped inner lining for enhanced comfort and fit at shin, ankle and heel areas.

Best boots for the (sale) price I looked at boots for quite a while before ordering a pair of Sidi, but ended up sending them back because they were too flimsy; that's when I came across these boots. Wow, what a difference! Much more protection and lateral support, not to mention they look as well as they protect. I've had these boots for nearly 2 months and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. On the negative side, the rubber cuff at the top of the boot does rub you if you're not wearing tall socks. This is only noticeable when walking and not on the bike. Secondly, they squeak at the pivot points when walking in them. At first I didn't notice or care but it increasingly got worse, so I put a little silicone lube on them and the squeak is gone. One area of concern that I'm keeping an eye on is the zippers. I don't have big ankles but when pulling the zipper up there is a lot of stress applied on the zipper. Because of this I always make sure to bring the two parts together as close as possible to reduce the stress. One last thing, there isn't much cushion in the soles so I put a Dr. Shoells massaging gel insert in and it made a noticeable difference...it also took out all the vibration from the bike transmitted through the foot pegs. OK boots for the sale price of $279.95 but... First of all, Revzilla is the absolute best place on the web to shop, period! The Gaerne GP1 boots are a decent deal at the sale price but at full price this would be a purchase disaster. The boots are fair at best. When I first put them on I could tell they were no SIDI Vortice or a Astars Supertech R. The GP1 simply doesn't offer the protection, comfort or style of their competitors. In fact, these boots have already been relegated to just casual street rides. No way...NO WAY would I feel comfortable in these boots on the track or on very spirited street rides. The only positive thing I can say about the GP1 is that they are very easy on and off. If you're looking for a serious race boot I would pass these by. Spend the extra money and get the Vortice or the Supertech R. Gaerne missed the boat with the GP1. July 1, 2012
Great boots, extremely comfortable and functional. I previously owned a pair of Dainese Torque Pro's and felt like trying another boot. I researched a ton of other ones and stumbled across the Gaerne GP-1 Boots. I was a little turned off by the price because they were almost $500 and for a boot I have never tried before that left me a little skeptical but I found a lower price on another website and Revzilla price matched it down to $350. So I ended up picking them up for 350 shipped. 3 days later I was pulling them out of the box and I was highly impressed by the detail they put into the boot. I put them on they they fit perfect. My Dainese Boots were size 43/10us but these are size 43/9us. They actually feel like a size 9.5us. The foot bed is extremely comfortable and walking around in them is not a problem at all. So next I threw on my leathers and used them what they were intended for. The adjustable calf closure system ensures that your pant leg stays firmly secured inside the boot. I have skinny calves so this came in very useful. So I went to the canyons and the rubber at the insides of the tops of the boots lets you grip the bike very well and the toe lets you 100% feel the each shift. I rode for about 2.5 hours and when I got home my feet weren't sore or too sweaty. The boots allow for enough wind in to keep the temp comfortable inside. They also offer a perforated version if you need more air in. I truly like everything about this boot but the only thing I would add is a couple more colors to their selection. That's really it. I highly recommend these boots. December 19, 2011
AMAZING FIT High technology I just received these in the mail and could not wait to try them on. I was EXTREMELY skeptical because I purchased them without trying them on. I purchased my shoe size and they foot more perfect then I could have imagined. Extremely well put together. The patented floating system makes it feel like Im wearing a regular high top with the performance and protection of a MotoGP boot. There is only one minor flaw. When I put on the boot without knee high socks, the very top rubber portion of the boots seam is pretty prickly im pretty sure a sock would negate the feeling. Otherwise Im extremely excited to try them out on my Ducati Superbike. December 6, 2011

How does the GP-1 fit compared to the GR-S?

Different entry and closure system entirely, I was wondering about how this boot will fit compared to the GR-S. The GR-S was not only sized for the typically wider American last (!), but also accommodates a larger circumference calf. These features made the GR-S a very comfortable boot for me. Also, my GR-S are labeled US size 10 and Euro size 44-1/2 (really, that's what the label indicates). I wear an 11 street shoe, but the 10 fit me perfectly. OK - back to my original question: will these new GP-1 fit in the same way?

The GR-S have proven very durable and crash resistant at the track, with no injury to date in several shunts. I'd love to be able to just order up another pair! I too was looking at the Dainese Torque line as a replacement, but hope that the GP-1 will be comparable fit to the GR-S.

Any insight on fit that anyone can offer, would be welcome.

Answer:
I just received these boots and I cannot tell you how impressed I am with them. The technology, fit, finish, and style are amazing. I to was looking at the torque but the technolgy on the Dainese boots are subpar to these. I would highly recommend these boots. Also, I wear a 9.5 street shoe. Alpine stars boots I wear a 43 and they fit perfect, The sizing chart for these said a 43 was a 10. I got the 42 which is closer to my size, It fits perfect and am extremely happy that I went a size smaller then what the gaerne sizing chart says to get.

Answer:
Personally, I think that the Dainese TRQ Race lineup is more bang for the buck. These Gaerne's look like they will be a great boot, but without having a pair in my hands I'm partial to the rear-entry zipper on the TRQs and their overall comfort since I am currently wearing a pair.

Answer:
I have owned these GP1 boots for awhile. I to was looking at the torque pros but decided to go with these because I thought the technology on the Dainese were sub par to these. I am SO glad I made the decision to purchase these. I love them, the fit, finish, technology, and looks are fantastic. Order your shoe size or just a tiny bit smaller than your shoe size. DONT GO OFF THE SIZING CHART. I wouldve gotten a size to big if I did. Im a 43 in Alpine stars which is the equivalent to a 9-9.5. The Gaerne sizing chart says 43 is a 10, I went 42 and it fits me perfect, I found a video on youtube by competition accessories(only one thats not in Italian). Heres the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mr3ILdaVeM
