Firstgear Navigator Gloves 1 5 1 1
Bad form (design of material cuts), poor insulation Ask 100 people with big hands to compare their hands to somebody else's and demonstrate how big they are. 99+ of those people will put their palm up against somebody else's and show their hand span. Measuring around the palm is generally a good proxy for this, but it is the not actually the circumference of the palm itself we are referring to when we say "He has big hands." These gloves supposedly run large. They do. Very much so. Except that only refers to the palm circumference. The fingers are not longer, meaning that the glove restrains your hands as you try to extend your fingers while they are gripping the handlebars (because the webbing between the thumb and forefinger is locked against the handle bars, naturally). These are dangerous gloves for people with big hands (large hand spans; i.e. long, though completely proportional, fingers) like me, because you have a hard time grabbing the clutch / break. Next, there is a small pad to protect against calluses. That's not a problem in and of itself. But the cut of the glove allows that pad to flip over between your hand and the handlebar grip. I feel like I always have a pencil between my left hand and the handlebar. Finally, these are NOT warm gloves at all. My fingers started getting cold once it dipped down into the 40s. These gloves are not ventilated well enough to wear when it gets up around 70, and they're not warm enough to wear down in the 40s. They are very limited in terms of comfortable temperature range. Waterproofing was fine. I bought these to replace gloves from Joe Rocket that were about half the price. In terms of weatherproofing, I found the performance comparable. In terms of comfort, the Joe Rocket gloves far outperformed these. April 19, 2015
