Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket - 2009 4.5 5 34 34
Plain but functional this flows enough air to keep me cool through indiana summers. i've never like the liner though, it doesn't fit like an integral part of the jacket. so this is my summer only jacket. the pads in the shoulders and elbows really like to float around too because of the soft shell of the jacket. i'll be looking for something with a little for substance next time, although it may sacrifice airflow. better liner and stability of armor would make this a better match for me. Not bad but needs improvement Compared to my other summer jacket this does not have that good air flow. The mesh is rather dense and a lot of area inside covered by pockets that stop the flow. I had to remove those alltogether to impove the flow. The jacket does fit relatively comfortably but feels a bit large for its size. It must have zippers on the sleeves or at least velcro flaps. The good thing is that in silver colour it is siver all around including shoulders. Therefore it reflects a lot of direct sun heat while stationary. January 14, 2013
Great jacket for texas Very good airflow, comfortable jacket, lots of interior pockets. the fit was a little tight in the shoulders, but perfect everywhere else. January 14, 2013
Firstgear Mesh Tex jacket Jacket design is very comfortable, functional & stylish. It offers a good complement of pockets. The liner pockets are mirrored in the jack should the liner be removed. The padding and protection incorporated in this jacket gives me piece of mind and a sense of security against road rash. November 5, 2012
Where is the Velcro First off I want to say that I do like this jacket. I have been purchasing First Gear products exclusively since the mid 90’s. I don’t mind paying a bit more for a First Gear product even knowing there are less expensive options out there as First Gear always provided superior products that were well made with the rider in mind. But this jacket is produced with snaps on the cuffs and waist. Really, working a snap with a gloved hand? Where is the Velcro and the infinite adjustments that go with it. This is a letdown for me and why I gave this jacket 4 stars instead of 5. It’s not that I won’t buy a First Gear product again; it’s just that I will perform a closer inspection of the amenities and I will no longer by on faith alone. August 15, 2012
Nice fitting jacket for the right price I ordered the hi-viz version of the jacket because, as a new rider, I wanted to be seen by traffic. The fit of the jacket is good and the protective pads still allow for good flexibility. I fell well protected in this jacket. This is not a jacket to order if you want to be "cool and hip". My wife gave me a hard time about the color, until she followed me on a ride. Now she understands why I picked hi-viz. July 24, 2012
Great warm weather jacket, but... The jacket definitely fits a bit large. I've never worn a mens medium in anything since Junior High and now that I'm more middle-aged with an expanding middle, I'm usually between a Large and an XL in shirts, hoodies, and jackets. This is one of the only jackets I've tried that has more of an "american" cut, vs. the tall skinny model of most motorcycle wear. I really wish Firstgear didn't equate to gear for beginners. I'd really like to buy a more refined version of this jacket even if paying more to do so. What isn't apparent in the product photos is the cuff closure. It's just single snap that bunches up the sleeve. The grey wedge is just a different color, it's not a pleat. It would be much nicer and better interface with different gloves if it had a zipper or something. there also isn't a lot to keep the sleeve from shifting around as there's no adjustments/straps by the elbows. My biggest disappointment with this jacket is the back protector. Firstgear used to say you could put in an upgraded back pad/spine protector, but no-one makes a small enough pad. It appears the description here and on their site has been updated now. I really wish it offered better back protection. The liner, the pockets, pretty much everything else about the jacket is great. It's a good jacket with a great fit and if they make a version 2.0 of it, I'll buy another. July 23, 2012
Good Quality mostly wear it without the CE inserts as it has additional padding sewn into elbows and shoulders. has become my primary riding jacket July 19, 2012

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
B U: First motorcycle jacket purchase. Fit good and was comfy on hot summer days. Mar 16, 2014
STEPHEN B: Product name, the price, and needed a summer jacket. Nov 20, 2013
A shopper asked: Looking at the charts, I guess I'm either a "large Medium" or a "small Large" -- what do you recommend in terms of size selection? Also, I notice there are no straps or snaps to adjust the snugness of the arms; I have average to thin arms for my size, so wonder if there'd be trouble keeping the armor in the right place? Same questions apply to all Firstgear jackets, I guess... Aug 8, 2011

Chris L.: This Firstgear jacket has a standard fit. If you normally wear a medium, purchase a medium. If you normally get a large, then get the large. As far as the armor goes, I have never experienced any problem with the armor not staying in place. It is an excellent jacket, and with the liner in place, is comfortable down to the low 60's with just a shirt on underneath. It is great during the warmer months and allows plenty of air in to cool your body.

If this does not answer your question about size, I would recommend that you by the medium size jacket since you are a large medium.

Kris T: I normally wear a Large jacket (like my Joe Rocket), but found the medium was a good fit with this particular Firstgear model. I am more of a barrel shape, so I was really surprised when I slipped into the medium. I hope to not find out how well the armor stays in place during a crash, the jacket is a lot more flexible than a textile or leather jacket, but during regular riding, everything sits nicely in place. baconpocket: I wear a medium and my main complaint is the fit of the armor. it tends to float a lot in the elbows.
go for the smaller size and exchange it for larger if you need to.

A shopper asked: Does this jacket have the zipper to match up with the Firstgear riding pants? Aug 5, 2012

CruzinDR: I don't know for certain if it will fit with riding pants but if it helps there is a zipper towards the bottom of the jacket. It's about 5 to 6 inches long. Jan 3, 2013

A shopper asked: On the product page it mentioned that a CE rated back protector could be added to replace the foam pad that comes with the jacket. I have a size medium and love the fit, but would like to upgrade the protection. Thanks Sep 22, 2011

AliB: The size and shape of the EVA foam back protector found in the Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket is a very specific long thin shape that does not accommodate the majority of aftermarket back protectors. When checking Firstgear manufacturer specifications, I was not able to locate any specifics for upgradeable protectors. For added spine protection, you can wear a separate back protector such as the Teknic Speedstar Spine Guard or the Joe Rocket Speedmaster Back Protector. Oct 7, 2011

CruzinDR: The Klim D3O Viper T5 Pro Back Protector will fit this jacket. :) Jan 3, 2013
