Dunlop Sportmax Q3 Front Tires

The Dunlop Sportmax Q3 is the next-generation sport bike tire and successor to Dunlop's popular Q2 tire, featuring Dunlop’s new Carbon Fiber Technology (CFT) which incorporates carbon fiber reinforcements into the sidewall. The Dunlop Q3 Sportmax also features an updated tread pattern with longer grooves to better evacuate water which helps wet weather performance and rear tires boast Dunlop's Intuitive Response Profile (IRP) for phenomenal handling and steering grip and feel.

The new Sportmax Q3 represents yet another direct benefit yielded from Dunlop’s AMA Pro Road Racing involvement. As the control tire supplier for AMA Pro Road Racing, Dunlop invested in new tire-producing machinery necessary to accommodate race tire production at Dunlop’s Buffalo, NY, manufacturing facility. These same high-tech machines are used to produce the all-new Q3 rear tire.

Features:

  • Dunlop’s Carbon Fiber Technology (CFT) uses carbon fiber reinforcement in the tire sidewalls for exceptional cornering performance and feel
  • Aggressive new Q3 tread pattern uses fewer grooves that are longer in length to enhance wet-weather performance
  • New Q3 tire compounds were derived from road-race compounds to yield maximum sportbike performance
  • The Dunlop Sportmax Q3 offers superb grip, stability, steering feel and longevity on the street and on the track
  • Designed, tested and manufactured in America, the Sportmax Q3 sets new standards for high-performance sport tires

Awesome tire
This tire is incredible! Grip is amazing, I never have to worry that I'm going to lose traction. The q3 inspires confidence and might even make you push your bike and yourself farther than you thought you could.

Sticky as F****
I have a 2013 R1 that I just replace the stock tires after 5000 something miles. I have the front and rear tires mounted on, and the difference between the tires is great. I have more confidence taking a corner now. I recommend this tires. However, I am coming from stock tires which are not the best.

Awesome TIre
Ive used 2 sets of these tires so far on the street and at the track. Super grippy which inspires a lot of confidence while cornering. They lasted me about 1000 miles of canyon carving and 2 group C trackdays. The rear is at the wear bars but after all the that the front is still good. Excellent tire! Wow! Much grip!

Great tire
Changed from my long time favorite pp3 to these q3. Feel like they warm up faster and get stickier. This is my third pair between two different bikes. Very confidence inspiring.

Makes cornering a snap
These tires have been everything but disappointing. Once broken in and warmed up you can ride like a motogp rider. Even for the inexperienced these tires are sticky that they will definitely help you corner and ride with confidence. Definitely recommend!

track day rubber
Started 2016 track season with fresh rubber, first pair of Dunlops in more than a decade.

Very pleased, confidence inspiring, affordable and simply let me go faster around the track. Best of all, they're warm after only one lap - who needs warmers!

Great addition to my SV650
I recently put a Q3 front and rear tire on my 2006 Suzuki SV650 and since have been really impressed with the amount of grip these tires have to offer.

My Tech guy also had no trouble installing them. Dunlop includes a nice colored dot to let you know where to line the tire up with the valve stem. Tire was also perfectly balanced right out of the box.

Out performs Q2
I commute and weekend ride, this tire works great!.Easy to correct in mid corner with confidence. Have put over 500 miles on it so far and the tire does not even looked scuffed like a Q2 would be at 500 miles.

These are some of the best tires I've used to date. They grip like none other, but only last about 2500-3000 miles. I wouldn't run these if all I'm doing is commuting, but for the track or spirited riding, they are top notch.

Rowdy M on May 31, 2016
Durable and grippy. Just get them warm and you can trust them. Takes a minute more to warm up in comparison to a Bridgestone R10 or similar but it'll grip just as much and will last longer due to the harder compound in the center. Track approved, road approved.
Alex V on May 9, 2016
I've been using Q3's on the track for a couple of years now. It has great traction in wet and dry conditions. Once I'm close to the wear indicators on the side, I'll put them on my streetbike.
william o on May 7, 2016
One of the best sport bike tire in budget price.
Qaiumuzzaman K on May 2, 2016
I wanted something a little more aggressive for the street so I went with the Q3. I only got 1400 miles out of my oem rear tire so I figured how much less miles could I get out of a tire that could be on a track. Right out of the plastic they were sticky to the touch.

It seems that the front tire tread pattern is such that it will draw water into the contact patch instead of away. Is it just me or am I thinking it wrong?
A shopper on May 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: That's weird - I've never noticed before. But that is indeed the direction of tread travel. I have 6k+ miles on my Q3 fronts, with 60% commute and 40% canyon twisties, and have ridden in light rain a few times. No issues with traction in the rain, but I also don't push it when it rains either. Lots of very favorable test reviews available on the internet of the Q3 on the track in the dry and in the wet. Not sure why the front is designed that way, but Dunlop has an engineering reason for everything they put into a tire, including tread design.
I understand the middle number (sidewall height) in the tire size designation is percentage of the first number ( tire width) such as in a Front Tire 120/70 where the sidewall height would be 70% or 84mm. How does a higher or lower sidewall height such as 120/70 vs. 120/60 affect hard corning handling ? ( aka Tail of the Dragon ) Have 2013 RSV4 Factory in East Tenn.
A C on Jul 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: With a taller profile tire it will want to turn in quicker and easier. The top of the tire will be more round vs the flatter profile on the 120/60. I had an 03 R6 that came stock with a 120/60, and I wish I swapped to a 120/70 sooner. It felt more lively on twisties. Definitely a good change for riding on the dragon!
I currently have the Q2. I must have bought an old set as they dry rioted quickly! However best tire I have ever been on! Felt extremely comfortable on this tire. My only problem other then the dry riot, is the center wore out way to fast as I do a lot of commuting! I have more then plenty of side tread left, but I am at core at the center. I lean pretty hard and if I had pucks I would be on my knees so I like the grip the Q2 advertises and gave me, but I guess I do to much straight commuting for the life of the center. Is there a tire that will give me longer center tread life but the same multi tread and grip of the Q2/Q3. I do not get on the track or tail of the dragon but maybe once a year, I do hope to get on a track much more often this year once I get track gear but not sure if the Q3 would still be right for me as its designed as a 50/50, Id be more 10 track, 30 to hard on street, 60 1 hour plus commuting trips. Also need to consider price. I want the Q3 but is there something better for me for the price?
Thank you in advance for any and all input.
A shopper on May 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I ride 70% commute and 30% canyon twisties. Started with Roadsmart (OEM stock), then Q2, then Q3. I have 6k+ on the front - no flat topping. I have 4k+ on the rear and just now am noticing the start of flat topping (and I weigh 220 + 50 lb backpack of work gear). A couple of earnest days in the canyon twisties and that rear should round out just fine. Tread life has been good for me Traction and feel is far superior to road/commute oriented tires. There are road/commute oriented tires that will last longer, but you will give up that feel and grip of the Q3. Classic trade-off. If two sets of tires (one for commute, one for track/canyon) is not an option, and feel/traction is more important than tire life, then Q3 is an amazing all-around tire for the price.
