Beautifuly awesome gear One of the most well made jackets I've ever purchased. I'm a slightly awkward fit. I'm 5'11 with a 54 shoulder and 48 waist (euro). My shoulders are broad, waist thin and arms not quite the biggest. This however fits me the best out of most jackets and with chest and back armor inserts in made me feel more confident riding. I purchased the perforated for summer riding, with the d1 back protector slightly sweaty it actually works to cool you down after the initial heat. I added in Alpinestars Nucleon perforated chest protectors and could really feel a big difference in airflow(more). I'm loving this jacket and am really sold on the quality of Dainese. And the strong leather smell. Love it. I get all kinds of looks wearing this and am recognized by people in my city because how unique this jacket is. Even at night, with the reflective tape I'm seen. July 13, 2015
Great air flow Good jacket with all the quality from Dainese. The air flow is excellent! July 13, 2015
Great jacket! Fit is improved over C2 Racing This is an outstanding jacket (perforated D1 Racing). It is expensive, but you are rewarded for your spend. Anthony's reviews cover the details of the jacket and they are spot on. Fit: I am 5' 5" tall, 140 lbs, with an athletic build (flat stomach, bigger/muscular shoulders and arms - but not huge). I have a 38" (97 cm) chest. Unless you are disproportionately tall or short relative to the rest of your body, the chest measurement will be the primary factor for basing your size decision. By the size chart, I should go with a 48. I bought both the 48 and 50 and kept the 50. So unless you have narrower shoulders or average to smaller than average arms, I suggest going up one size from the size chart recommendations. If you have big shoulders or arms, definitely go up one size from the sizing chart!! I love this jacket but it is small in the shoulders (especially in the underarm area) and in the bicep region; that is why you need to size up. That said; the sizing has changed a bit from the Racing C2 model (last year's version) and that's a good thing in my opinion. I just bought the C2 model (perforated) last year and out grew it over the winter. Not in the belly, but in the biceps! Last year I also went a size up from the sizing chart (50 vs the 48). That is what it took to fit my shoulders and arms, but it was a snug fit for them; fine for the chest and belly. Over the winter I weight lifted a lot and my biceps got big enough that the jacket was uncomfortably tight in the biceps. My arms are no means huge. Take a look at Anthony's in the video. My arms are about that size proportional to my body. If that is the case for you. You will find that the fit will be very tight in the C2 model of the jacket, but fortunately the D1 model is now more generous in the arms so it fits bigger arms just fine now. It's not too big, just right. I wish the jacket was a bit smaller in the mid-section, but overall the fit is good. (You need to accept a little bit more roominess in the belly area and even the chest to a lesser degree, to fit bigger shoulders and arms in the jacket.) Otherwise, I like the other detail changes that were made over the C2 Racing model that Anthony covers in his review. Airflow is very good for a leather jacket. Sure, at 80F+ temps you will still be warm when moving slow or stopped, but it is still reasonable. It wold be nice if there was a bit of perforation in the mid-back/lateral region to provide airflow out the back. For cool mornings, I wear a very thin wind blocker jacket under the D1. Overall, this jacket is outstanding, stylish, and exudes quality. Yes, it has a strong leather smell and I love it! It looks good, keeps you from overheating on hot days, and must importantly provides the protection you should be wearing just in case you need it. Finally, I wear this jacket for street riding and commuting. I think this would be fine on the track paired with leather pants, but it's definitely provides good protection for the street. Highly recommended! As always, if you have never purchased from Revzilla before. Have no fear. Shipping is quick, communication is great, and returns/exchanges are a snap. June 28, 2015
What's Happening With Cut and Sizing, Dainese? I am not sure what is happening in the quality control department at Dainese but I just bought this jacket and for the third time with one of their products recently, I have had weird sizing issues. I have always been a dead nuts on 50 in all their leather but things have been getting very erratic. I had a Trickster suit which I sold, regretted it and immediately bought another one. Both exactly the same size, color and model. One I wore regularly, with back protector, from day one with no issues with size. The new one I bought a few weeks later I couldn't zip up, even without a back protector in. Same thing with Dainese boots. I recently replaced one pair with an identical pair of the same size and the right boot of the new pair was so out of spec (too small) I couldn't walk on that foot for an hour after taking it off. Now we come to the Racing D1 perforated jacket. On the Revzilla website it looks like a nice, stylish, body hugging, racing inspired street jacket with pockets for their new two piece chest protector (I always hated the old one piece which was held in place with a single sided pocket). Just what I need to go with my new 1299 Panigale. I ordered the usual 50 and when it arrived I knew something was off almost immediately. It just looked huge on the hanger. Sure enough when I pulled it on it's close to being OK across the chest but the arms are massive, especially the forearms. I have added photos of the forearm of the Racing D1 versus a Dainese Speed Naked I have in exactly the same size. I put a tape on it and the Racing forearm is about 2" wider all round. A naked bike jacket should not be tighter than a racing inspired jacket. There's no way the armor is going to stay in place with that much free play. Dropping down a size may help with the arms a little but the chest is going to be too tight. It looks like it was made for Popeye. The cut is just way off what it should be. I was also considering the Dainese Super Rider and saw that Anthony is recommending going TWO sizes down from your usual! That's wildly off what it should be and the opposite of what one would expect with an Italian product. Then I saw Dainese are charging nearly a grand for half a leather jacket and decided it wasn't for me :-) My issue with this product is that sizing and cut is getting very erratic and drifting away from how it should fit for its intended use. It needs to fit closely across the whole body of it's going to protect the rider and this one doesn't. I think Dainese need to dial back the vast number of products they are putting out and focus on quality, fit and finish on a core product range. Maybe then I can go back to having confidence in ordering a particular size knowing it will fit as expected upon arrival. June 3, 2015

A shopper asked: Two questions here: Do the 2 chest protector pockets require a different or new insert compared to the L2 or Thorax that is used for other jackets? Will there be a long version for the perforated jacket as was mentioned in the non-perforated jacket's video? Aug 24, 2014

Andrew B asked: I am confused on the measurements. I am 6' 2 1/2" and 199 pounds with long legs and arms. I wear a dress shirt with a 36" sleeve and a 40L suit jacket. I can probably wear a 42L jacket and get away with it. At my bike shop, I've tried on some Dainese jackets of various model and the 58 fits me very nicely except that the torso and sleeves are too short. I am trying to get the correct Tall size in hops that I can finally have some decent protection from the road. But a 58 size equates in the chart to a 44.9-46.5" chest. I am wondering how I could be so far off from my suit jacket size yet still have a tailored fitting riding jacket. Also, can someone tell me the difference in torso length (front and back) between a regular and tall sized jacket? Thanks! Apr 17, 2015

Paul W: I am 6'3, 205 lbs, 43"ish chest. I went with the 54 tall and I couldn't be happier with the sizing, it fits me like a glove.

The sleeve and torso length are spot on perfect for me. I am very glad that I went with the tall version. I spent alot of time looking at the different options on the sizing chart, and I can now say the normal non-tall version would be a poor fit for me. The torso length would for sure be too short on me.

It's a comfortable fit, not too tight and not too loose. I have room to layer up and/or add a back protector.

Based on your stats I would only look at the 52 or 54 tall jackets, don't bother with the normal one.

It says to expect an additional 2-3 weeks ontpp of revzillas regular shipping time for the tall sizes, but I had the jacket delivered to my front door just 8-9 days after I placed the order. Obviously your situation might be very different but I was surprised with the very fast shipping time.

Ernesto L: I'm a little smaller than you, 6', 175lb, wear a 40R suit. I have the 52 regular D1 jacket and now that it's broken in I could've probably gone with a 50 for a true, tight race fit. I can't help you pinpoint the difference between the reg and long fits, but a size 58 sounds like it would be way too big. As a race-fit jacket rather than relaxed-fit riding jacket It should fit almost uncomfortably skin-tight new out of the box. Apr 21, 2015

Khiem D: I had an A-star leather jacket before which is size 44.
However, the Dainese Racing D1 Perforated Leather Jacket which is size 54 fits me perfectly. Dainese runs very small comparing to other brands.

tsuyoshi t asked: Sizing question. I'm 165cm, 59kg, 35 inch chest. Will size 44 be ok or will this be too tight on me? I would like to put in a thin back protector but I'd like it to be a snug fit but not straight jacket tight Jul 14, 2015

SIZING INSTRUCTIONS

We highly recommend finding a cloth tape measure and taking the time to take these measurements. Dainese sizes will not necessarily correlate with fitment in other brands.

  • Chest: Measure from under/top of armpit across chest to under/top of other armpit, then across back to first armpit
  • Waist: Measure at the hourglass of your torso, (circumference measured at your belly button)
  • Hips: pelvic bone to pelvic bone, the widest part of your hips below the waist
  • Inseam: from crotch to big ankle bone
  • Outseam: from waist to big ankle bone
  • Gloves: Using a flexible measuring tape, measure around your hand, behind the knuckles, not including the thumb.
