Dainese L2 Chest Protector 4.3 5 12 12
Bulky, cheap feeling Tried this for the protector pocket in my Dainese jacket. It puffed out the jacket and gave me a gigantic chest. The hard plastic was bulky and cheap-feeling. It's the 21st century, Dainese! Why can't you move to D3O, SAS-TEC or similar high-tech materials? I ended up getting an Alpinestars Nucleon, which is a little smaller, but significantly lighter, less bulky, and will likely have better airflow. August 1, 2015
Sizing information is critical Ordered a Large protector for my size 54 Racing D1 Jacket prior to the sizing information being published on this site. It does fit a little big and you can see the sides of the jacket bulge a little when it is inserted. Other than that there is no issue with the item and ventilation is good. I haven't had the opportunity to crash test it (fingers crossed). November 12, 2014
Dainese: Split Chest Protector coming soon! I ware size Dainese 52 Jackets and U.S. Large T-Shirts and Italian Dainese XL T-Shirts. The L2 in Size: SMALL fits me perfect! It gives way more upper body mobility then the sugested size Med. I sized down and voilà! I would feel naked riding without the Small - Dainese: L2 Chest Protector. Dainese: Split Chest Protector coming soon! Double Chest Protector is a great idea, about time! So the dam thing does not fall out of your jacket when you need to open it while walking around. Dress for the crash not the ride! October 28, 2014
Nice protector This chest protector fit nicely under my suit and jacket. It stays in place even when I'm moving around a lot. September 3, 2014
Great, easily fits in jacket pocket - quick in and out Used it on a recent trip of approx 2000 miles in 75-80 degree weather. Airflow was hard to tell as jacket has material over the protector. There are large holes which look like they will allow air movement if not covered. The protection feels substantial nd I really like how easily it came in and out. It was a bit annoying in that I would sometimes forget it when I set it down because it would not "attach" to the jacket. August 12, 2014
Another good dainese product I have the Dainese Frazer Pelle jacket. After I realized what the pocket was for on the inside, I decided I should buy a chest protector for added protection. The pocket was labeled for a "thorax" chest protector which is no longer in production. I bought the L2 instead and am happy to report that it fits perfect. The chest protector does add a little bulk to the jacket but its not that bad. And, above all, its very comfortable. You dont even notice it after a few minutes. Given that this product adds another layer, it felt rather breathable and wasn't stifling. August 4, 2014
Why not have more protection? Seriously, if you have a Dainese jacket with the pocket for the protector why not put it in? Fits in the pocket, you don't even know its there. My only grip is that when you take off the jacket, it falls out. The pocket should have a type of fastening system to hold it in. I will make something myself. I switch it from my textile jacket to my leather so I can't permanantly attach it. But it does not move or fall out when the jackets are on. Just when you take the jacket off. July 31, 2014
Fit my Alpinestars Andes Jacket I admit I had to heavily modify these to fit my jacket but it worked. Had to cut these in half and trim the entire outside fabric. Only left the hard plastic and backing intact. Wasn't impressed with the Alpinestars chest protectors so went with these CE level rated ones instead. June 2, 2014

Anthony C asked: Anyone have the actual height and width dimensions of the L2? I have a 52 jacket but am concerned about width of L2 affecting mobility. One reviewer similar in size to me said he used the small, but I want to be sure of correct size for maximum protection without compromising mobility. Thank you. Dec 2, 2014

Patrick B: Hello Anthony, I am 5'11" , 172 pounds, thin build. My dianese textile size 54 is just a slight big bigger than the almost perfectly sized 52 in debated on getting. Since I wanted to add a hard Back protector and a chest protector, I went slightly larger with the 54. It worked out well. My L2 fits well and is comfortable. The dimensions are 10" across the top and 15", on the arc, at the bottom (14" linear from side to side. The bottom width is approx 5.5" in height with the overall vertical height being approx. 11" at the most and 9.5" in the center. Remember, you can return it if your concerned about size.
Enjoy the purchase and good luck,

Richard K: I measured my L2 SIZE M and here are the dimensions. With the protector setting on a flat surface (and measuring the shortest point) the measurement is 14 3/4" across and 11" high. If you measure the protector following the curve of the protector the measurement becomes 15 1/4" across by 11 1/2" high. This "along the curve" measurement is taken on the OUTSIDE (facing the jacket), subtract 1/2" from this measurement to get the inside (side facing your chest) dimension. I hope this is clear and helps answer your question. BTW, my jacket is a 54, I am 170 Lbs, 6'0" high, average build ... the protector is a good comfortable fit. Dec 6, 2014

Richard K: Here are the measurements from my L2:

14 3/4" wide x 11" high - measured when resting on a flat surface, the distance without following the curve.

15 1/4" wide x 11 1/2" high - measured with a cloth tape following the curve of the protector.

I hope this makes sense and answers your question.

Sean M: I wear size 54 Dainese suits and jackets and use a medium chest protector. The large sits too close to my arm pits and inhibits arm movement. You could order a small and a medium, try them side by side, see which one fits best and return the one that doesn't. Dec 3, 2014

Ron F: Anthony,

I have a size 52 jacket and the medium L2 fits great for me. Try it and if it doesn't fit remember that RevZilla has free returns.

A shopper asked: Will this fit into the Dainese Super Speed C2 Perforated Leather Jacket? Jun 22, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Gus A: Hi mate. I think so.
I got a Dainese Super Speed Textile Jacket and bought this L2 Chest protector.
I would think these 2 jackets have the same cut. Having said this:
- It fits nice.
- Does not feel bulky on your chest.
- It protects the upper part of your chest and ribs.
- The Dainese Super Speed Textile Jacket does not lock in place the protector, meaning that every single time you open your jacket, the protector will fall off.
- Extra item to carry.

Hope this helps.
ps. You are choosing a nice jacket.

James H: That is exactly the jacket I used it in, Size 52. I can't remember if I used a medium or small. I know for sure I went down from the suggested size. My jacket already fit very tight. But, the chest protector still fits. It's a nice jacket. I do like armor. It really provides a false sense of security but if it gives me more confidence. I'm all for it. Jun 22, 2015

James H: To clarify an earlier answer. I have had size E52 and have size E54 Perforated Super Speed C2 jacket. I bought a size small L2. It fits perfectly. Jul 9, 2015

Ron F: It depends on how tight your jacket is. Mine is a little tight when I first insert the chest protector and then loosens up after a few minutes. Jun 27, 2015

Justin L asked: Can these fit the dainese air frame jacket? Aug 16, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Matthew H: I don't think the Air Frame jacket has a chest pocket for a chest protector. However, a lot of people will wear the L2 chest protector in jackets without a pocket for it because if the jacket fits right, the L2 chest protector won't move around much (because of how light it is). A S: I don't know as I bought it for my full piece race leathers. One thing I do know is that you should have something like this all the time having learned the hard way with a broken rib. The manufacturer should be able to tell you exactly. Aug 16, 2014

Ron F: Justin,

I have a Dainese C2 Racing Jacket. If the Air Frame Jacket is similar to the C2 then I would say yes. Note that the C2 doesn't have any special pockets for the chest protector.

A shopper asked: Is the L1 Chest Protector replacing the Thorax Chest protector? Mar 4, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Robifumi: No. Just 2 different designs. The L1 I think is more focused on track riders. Less protection but more movement for the rider. I have only seen racers use the L1, for years. Like Rossi and Guy Martin. I have never seen pro riders use the thorax. I think the thorax is more focused on sit up road riding although I have both and have used the thorax on track no problem Mar 27, 2013
Reply to Robifumi Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The L1 is not replacing the Thorax. Basically, the L1 meets CE Level 1 parameters and the Thorax further exceeds the Level 1 requirements. Mar 7, 2013

A shopper asked: Does it fit into Thorax pockets of Dainese Jackets? Nov 28, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The Dainese L1 Chest Protector is actually a little smaller than the Thorax. However, Dainese designed the L1 to fit the Thorax pockets in their jackets. So you will be able to easily fit the L1 into a Thorax pocket. Nov 29, 2012
