Arai XD3 Helmet

  • High-flow peak channels air directly into the front vents
  • Twin-cam Shield Pivot System allows the face shield to operate fully under a peak that can be lowered for better aerodynamics. Can be configured with shield and peak, peak only (for use with goggles) or shield only
  • Fully Removable/Replaceable and washable liner with optional sizes available for custom fit
  • 4 top vents. Dual Intake/Dual Exhaust Ventilation-dual I/C top intake vents and Double Delta bridged exhaust bents designed to draw significant volumes of air from helmet interior
  • CLC (Complex Laminate Construction) shell-fiberglass composite is stronger and lighter-allows use of softer, less-dense liner materials inside for increased rider comfort
  • Efficient chinbar vent (with Interior and exterior controls) flows fresh air to the mouth area or across the shield interior to help prevent fogging
  • Large chinbar side exhaust vents draw out additional hot air
  • Meets or exceeds DOT standards
  • Snell M2010 Approved

The peak/visor supplied is not suitable for high-speed use where air striking a side or main surface of the peak may cause difficulty in returning the head to a forward and/or level position.

The reviews on RevZilla's website for this helmet are right on the money. The helmet is well built and comfortable, although the cheek pads are a little tight at first they get looser within the first few rides. The face shield is a little bit low when in the full up position, leaving it slightly in your field of view, but not enough to distract your ride. I ride a KLR650 with a tall windshield, and the airflow usually buffets my street helmet pretty badly, but for some reason I don't get any buffeting with this helmet even with the peak. It must direct the airflow more over the top of the helmet. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. Some things I'd like to see on this helmet...bluetooth integration and good quality built-in speakers. I had to bolt on my existing unit onto the helmet, and it takes away from the look of the helmet.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I really love this helmet, don't get me wrong. It looks great in the frost black, fits well, tough as nails, just wish it flowed a bit more air and did not fog up quite as easily. I run around with the visor cracked open on it a lot.

Found the XD3 fit well, but was concerned that the cheek pads were too tight (first fit). However, after a couple rides, they felt much better and would not want to change them. Used the helmet on both GS style bikes and road style bikes. Helmet worked on both GS and K1200S. The helmet had much more room for speakers than earlier Corsair models (or C2/S1). Have to go back to ear plugs with this helmet, compared to C2/S1 helmets. About the same weight as the C2, but prefer the extended bill to the drop down sun visors of the C2. Slightly dropping your head can remove all glare from low sun angles. Even with the wind noise, this helmet just became my favorite and first one to grab for a ride.

I purchased a small Aria XD-3 Hi-Viz Yellow helmet a few weeks ago and can not wait for the weather to warm up so I can take it for a test ride. The fit is extremely comfortable though the check pads may require adjustments. The finish of this Arai helmet is impeccable, all features work/snap/click/flip with positive feedback that is expected of a high-end premium product. I anticipate the protection/durability and airflow (which I did not rate) to be excellent; I will try to update this review after some riding time... Overall, Arai helmets are significantly more expensive than other less-premium helmets but the value you get is noticeable the second you get it out of the box. Highly recommended.

I really liked the way the helmet looked and appreciated the added visibility it would give me. Upon receipt I was very impressed with the helmet. Everything on it is at a level of quality I have not owned before. The fit of the shield stood out, as did the quality and ease of operation of the vents. Although I used the fit chart and video on revzilla, and my measurement put me between a Med and Large, the Large is still uncomfortably tight. I wore the helmet for quite awhile inside (because if you go for a ride you cannot return it) and just never felt comfortable in it. I'm not sure if I need an XL (out of stock) or if perhaps the shape is not right for me. I'm also not willing to pay multiple return shipping fees to keep trying helmets so I will go back to trying on before purchasing. All customer service from revzilla was fantastic, and I won't hesitate to buy items from them in the future...but I am unlikely to attempt to purchase helmets via mail order again without trying on one prior to ordering.

Answer:
If you have a windshield you may be able to adjust the airflow so it hits the helmet just above the face opening. This can keep the shield open. However, it will snap down when you do a head check. You will find different brands of helmets have better or worse shield detents. My Arai is weak, my Bell is strong when it comes to shield detents.

Answer:
The XD3 doesn't have any springs for tension so it can be one of two things. If you took the peak off and are using the same base plate cover it will not tighten down enough and will make the shield slip down, or the plastic pieces the the shield fits over are damaged not allowing it to ratchet appropriately.

If you have further technical questions or need to send the helmet in for repair give the customer service department a call and they can help you out.

Checking out the stock at bike shops, I have found only two helmets that fit: A Shoei Multitech, and an Arai Quantum II, both helmets in medium. I have not found a XD3 in medium to make sure of the fit. Can you shed some light on this?

Answer:
I use a Scorpion EXO400 and HJC AC-12 in XL and the Arai fits me fine. It is a bit more snug than these two (HJC is quite loose) but I think thats because it is brand new. I just sat wearing it for a few hours and it feels fantastic. It should fit to size. M and L have the same shell size so you should be able to change the pads if you aren't happy with the fit. I believe it will fit comfortably.

Didn't get an answer to my question, so I bought a XD3 (Snell 2005) anyway. It's a snug fit, I needed to change the cheek pads to 20mm from the 25mm supplied. The fit is now acceptable. I wish the "D" ring strap was 2 inches longer, but this seems fairly standard. GregH

I am between small and medium. My head is 56.5 cm. In looking at the comfort liners I am considering a medium with a 12mm liner, or a small with the 5mm liner. I have no place locally to try out comfort liner options. Please advise on which combination you recommend.

Answer:
My head is 59cm, which puts me in a Large Arai if you go by the charts. But, I was lucky enough to have a local shop that had the XD3 in stock, and the Medium fit me like a glove, with no modifications whatsoever. I would have been SWIMMING in a Large.

A helmet that is too large is not going to protect you as well. I would choose the smaller size, so long as it wasn't so small that it hurt you to wear it.

In case you're not aware of it, Revzilla will exchange a helmet for any reason, so long as it has not been "out for a ride." So, buy with confidence, knowing that Revzilla will help you find a perfect fit.
