Arai Defiant Pro-Cruise Bold Helmet

Designed specifically for the aesthetics and needs of street fighter and naked bike riders but with the added functionality of a built-in sun shade, the Arai Defiant Pro-Cruise Helmet is aggressive and feature rich as one would expect from any Arai helmet. The Defiant Pro-Cruise Helmet expands the functionality of the first generation Arai Defiant Helmets by adding the Arai Pro Shade system, which operates as both a peak and as a sun shade. The Pro Shade System is a small peak that is locked in position. Unlocking is easy; just pull the Pro Shade System forward, then it can be flipped down with a flick of the hand to act as an effective sun-visor.

Based on the fit and comfort of the Quantum, the Arai Defiant Pro-Cruise was built for the upright riding position with its aggressive, integrated chin spoiler, which was designed specifically to guide wind around the neck and to improve the aerodynamic properties of the helmet. The Hyper Ridge Bumper circles the bottom of the shell both adding additional strength and also lowering the helmet's center of gravity, while flaring the helmet opening slightly to increase the ease of putting on, and taking off.

The Arai Defiant Pro-Cruise Helmet utilizes Arai's latest faceshield design, the SAI Max Vision Pinlock Shield with Brow Vents and includes Pinlock insert lens. The SAI Max Vision shield has been widened by 5mm left and right and offers one of the widest eyeports available for excellent peripheral vision.

Features:

  • Pro Shade System for dual sun-blocking capabilities
  • Eco-Pure Liner is anti-microbial
  • Ear pockets have been redesigned to better accept communication speakers for a more comfortable fit
  • Internals are redesigned with a focus on safety and comfort
  • Organic shell shape for superb energy management
  • IC-4 Upper Intake vents seal more completely when closed
  • ACR-4 flow thru exhaust vent allows greater air flow when open and reduces drag when closed
  • FCS R (Facial Contour Support) cheek pad design has 5mm peel away micro fit layer for greater personal fit
  • Cheek pads feature contoured shape, multiple density foam layer supported by a patented spring
  • Shell shape is easier to put on and take off than previous helmets
  • Water repellent material along bottom edge
  • Pull down spoiler works with new flared bottom to increase helmet stability
  • SAI Max Vision Brow Vent Pinlock anti-fog lens insert included
  • DOT and Snell 2015 certified

Note: Cheek pads are Ecopure fabric only.

Glad I upgraded
I was hesitant to spend the premium price on a helmet. After having ridden in it for 600 miles I am glad I did. The quality and comfort of this helmet is by far the best I have ever had. The peripheral vision is excellent and I really like the pro-cruise shade, it also gives me cutouts for my speakers! The ventillation is spectacular. Best money I have spent yet!

Great helmet
I bought the helmet based on Arai's reputation for safety and their design of this helmet for naked/minimally faired bikes. Watch the video to see just how much technology is in this helmet. It is well worth the price.

Arai Defiant Bold
I had my heart set on a Simpson Ghost Bandit Carbon, 'cos it's just about the only helmet that looks as badass as my bike. Lucky for me, I decided to consult Revzilla's helmet geeks before ordering: I first e-mailed, giving all the parameters for selection. I should explain that I ride most of the year I the UAE (Middle East) where I work. I do not have a car. I ride a custom Harley Crossbones, and while it has a windshield, looks much better without. So after a couple of years riding in extreme heat with beanie and half helmets, I resolved to try full face. The team (Ben) at Revzilla advised that I should be looking at buying one of the following:
Shoei GT-Air
Scorpion EXO-T1200
HJC RPHA ST
Well, I have owned both Scorpion and HJC (still do) but wondered why the Simpson wasn't on the list. I replied to Ben's mail to ask what he thought of the Simpson, but after 5 days, and no answer (pause while I blow a huge raspberry to Ben!) I phoned Revzilla. I asked for Ben by name, but he wasn't there at the time. I instead got a guy called Justin. He was very honest, and once I told him about my requirements, he told me that he thought that the Simpson would not flow enough air for the extreme heat here. I asked him "in that case, if money was not object, and you were to recommend one helmet for safety, qualit, and insane air flow, what would it be?" He told me in that case, there was one clear choice, the Arai Defiant.
On the basis of his advice, I bought the Bold, and after a couple of weeks riding, I can't tell you the following:
Fit
Intermediate Oval, fits exactly as the tape measure indicated. Tight and comfortable.
Noise
Noisier than expected, but after wearing mainly open faced helmets for years, not a problem for me.
Air Flow
Also not as much as I had expected, but certainly the most on any full face helmet I have had.
Pin Lock
The first helmet where I have tried a pin lock, and not really useful in the desert, but I agree with other reviewers that it tends to have a little too much "starring" for night riding.
Finish
Both inside and out, this is very high quality. No quibbles there.
Accessories
I bought the extended external shade visor in metallic blue, after reading some other reviews. I needn't have bothered: the standard shade is quite long enough, and the metallic blue does nothing for the looks. The standard shade is perfect.
Conclusion
Shout out to Justin: he picked the perfect helmet for my requirements, fits my riding style, ticks all the boxes for comfort, safety, and air flow. The bold kinda matches the colours on my bike, so that is a bonus, too. Only thing I might have done divverently, is to buy the solid black, and have my customiser paint it to match.
Bonus points:
A work mate Rob, whose Dad raced TT in the '60s, and who does a lot of track days himself, stopped by my office, saw the lid, and without prompting, said "I see you are moving on up, an Arai, best helmets that money can buy" so this lid has some major cred with those in the know, too!

Great Style, Great Protection
Having owned other Arai helmets, I liked the styling and pro-shade features of the Defiant so I decided to purchase and I was not disappointed. This helmet fits very similar to the Signet Q and is very quiet on the road. The looks are killer. As Anthony mentions in his video, although the helmet is finished in mat colors, there is a hint of metallic in the finish to add more pop to the overall look. The Pro-shade works great but isn't a very dark tint and I like to wear my sunglasses under the shade on bright sunny days. The shade coverage is adequate but could drop a bit further down the mask.
Overall, this is a high end, high quality helmet that is very comfortable and quiet.

Excellent product!
I don't usually review purchases, but this helmet is remarkable. I just got back into riding after a 3 year hiatus, starting out with my 11 year-old Shoei RF-1000 (oops - to old I know). I thought that was a great helmet, but on my new bike (Triumph Street Triple R) it was bobbing all over the place and I had trouble keeping my chin down. I used the videos on Revzilla and went for this helmet since it was designed for naked bike riding. On the first ride, the difference was remarkable. Super stable at speed with no chin lift at all. It was a hot day, vents were open and I thought the airflow wasn't bad - and then I stopped and started pouring sweat. Clearly the airflow was much better than I realized. It is very light and fits my average shape head well. I went on a 150 mile 80-90 degree ride last weekend and I almost forgot I had it on until a giant bug hit me right in front of the right eye. I like the proshade system as well. From the outside it is a bit weird that it doesn't provide complete coverage but from the inside I didn't really notice. Obviously a pricey helmet, but for me the features are worth it. It also looks good and matches my matte graphite bike perfectly. Revzilla also did a price match for me when I found it cheaper somewhere else, which was awesome. Highly Recommended.

Good but not great
Helmet is noisy and doesn't cover the entire chin. Comfort is good and protection I can't say as I haven't had to use that. But from what i read its great protection. It also leaves a slight mark on my right chin not sure if the padding is un-even.
This is a good helmet but for the price I think one can do better. I will certainly look for something quieter, and lighter in future.
The quality of materials is good and construction is solid.

Why did you choose this?
RevZilla Store
I ride in the Arabian Gulf region, and temperatures are high. Ryan the Revzilla helmet geek, advised that the venting on this helmet is second to none.
Arai safety is top notch, they are all Snell rated.
The price is high, but what value do you place on your head?

I have a co-worker that rides also. He recommended the Arai helmets. After doing research I concurred and ordered one. I am very pleased with my purchase. It fits well, very comfortable. I hope I never need the protection, but am glad I have it if needed.
