Super comfortable!
I found this item while searching for a back protector and all I can say is... I love this vest! I am 5'8" 155lb and ordered this in size M. The vest is made of a comfortable, elastic mesh material so it should stretch to accommodate anyone with a bit of a heavier build. In fact, I think if I were 5 lb. lighter I ~might~ be able to fit in a size S comfortably (I have never tried size S on so I can't say for sure).

I wear it under my A*s Stage leather jacket (size 40US/50EU, back and front foam padding removed from jacket, quilted liner still in!) which was a snug fit to begin with and can barely tell the difference! When I look in the mirror while wearing the vest+jacket, the back protector is not noticeable. My jacket does however have a back protector compartment. My chest does appear to be larger. The pieces of foam used in the chest area of the vest are relatively thick compared to the others.

If you do not have a back protector compartment you might not like the feel of this under your jacket. I tried this on an older Teknic jacket I had (size 44US/54EU) and the back protector was very noticeable (and the jacket was larger than what I normally wear). It also changed the 'feel' of the jacket to a point where I would be slightly uncomfortable.

Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone with a suit/jacket that has a back protector compartment.

exactly what you'd expect
I got this vest primarily to replace my heavy leathers for brief day-trips. It's low profile so you can wear it under a spring jacket or sweatshirt. No opportunity to test protection (thankfully) but it seems to fill the gap between full leather jacket and, well...nothing. Also works well under a riding jacket for when you need extra protection. Snug fit, but in this case that is what you want. I am 5'8" with 32" waist, medium build and the large fits perfect.

Best for short rides or a hot day
I have been wearing it here and there for a couple weeks now and I have no complaints.
The air passes right through it and it doesn't feel like it is going to fall apart from heavy use over time.

Excellent Product, best looking vest without looking like its meant for dirt bikes
I love the style of this vest, I like it because of the exposed back armor looks awesome, and it goes down to the waist in the front unlike other vests available with armor (and looks like it doesn't belong on a dirtbike). The size is a bit small so I'd suggest ordering a size up however it is stretchy material so I was able to stretch it over my gut.

So damm dope.
Haven't crashed to test its performance it looks dank AF on me. The fit is wonderful and very comfortable as well as pretty light for what it is. The softer padding has holes in it to vent, and they work great. Even being a black vest, it's fairly cool in the sun. My only two recommendations are to have a cell phone pocket somewhere (like inside the zipper would be nice) and offering different color options. Oh I forgot to mention that the back protector is removable by zipper. Even just different colored back protectors would be easy for them to do, and would match up with a lot of their other products. I actually think they're discontinuing this product, and I'm assuming it's because of the price, but if u want some protection on hot summer days, but don't wanna look like robocop, it's well worth it. I may buy another one actually. In case they really do discontinue it (like I did with the alpinestars S-1 gloves)

Great protection
This vest is great, stays in place. I wore it first time for two days at Code's CA superbike school in WillowSprings. It fit nice under my Spidi RR Wind Pro suit. I didn't know I had it on, didn't add any weight, heat, or flexibility issues.

The only minor issue I have with it is getting my arms out the suit. The back of the suit will "stick" or get caught on top of the vest's back protector. You can get out, but having a buddy just pull your suit over the back protector is easier. Other than that the vest is a great buy and versatile. I will be wearing it for street riding under my street jacket.

Stylish Protection
This Track vest is perfect to wear under a un-armored jacket out in the city. I prefer to wear this under my leather jacket that has no padding; rather than purchasing an entirely new leather jacket designed for riding that comes with pads. Fits well and is not bulky.

AlpineStars Track Vest
So far i like the product. Its nice being able to take my suit off and leave the vest on. My only problem is that my suit is pretty tight so when i go to pull my suit over the vest, the vest rides up some and becomes bunched at the top, takes another person to push it back down into the correct location. I ordered a M and i am 5'11" 167lbs wear a size 42 suit. Thanks, hope this helps.

Great air flow and comfortable
This vest has been a great purchase so far. I bought a large based on the staff recommendation. I'm 6'1", 215lbs and it fits very nice. Not too snug. The airflow is great and keeps me comfortable during the 80+ degree rides. The back plating isn't even noticeable during rides. Great product!

It can go under many different jackets, but be prepared to look like a hunchback when you're off the bike. It provides the best back protection and has extra harder padding on the chest. It is worth it.

I was looking for something to augment my leather riding jacket. This vest will fill the void in padding and also be useful when the temp and humidity rise through the summer here in Bermuda.

Does the vest come with the white bionic back protector or the black one?
A shopper on Sep 7, 2011
BEST ANSWER: It does come with a white bionic back protector. If you plan to wear it under a jacket, which I recommend, the color shouldn't be a problem.
I was looking at getting this for ATV riding, and wearing it underneath the jersey. Would this be a good choice? Or/and what other products would you recommend? Thank you.
A shopper on Jun 18, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This vest is really good.

It was originally intended for racers that didn't want to move their armor from one suit to the next, where they apparently use multiple suits during a race.

But I'm not a racer. I wear a suit that doesn't have the back and torso protection this vest offers. So I wear it under my full body suit, after removing the back protector that came with the body suit. It works great.

I must tell you that I unfortunately had the opportunity to put it to a real world test. I ran into a very large male deer at 50 mph with this vest on. It totaled my motorcycle and banged me up pretty good. I landed on my back.

This vest probably prevented me from becoming hurt much worse that I was. My helmet also took a pretty good beating.

I replaced all of my riding gear and got a slightly bigger motorcycle.

I don't ride it without this vest on. I feel completely naked without it.

I don't work for AlpineStars or RevZilla. I ride in the mountains of Northern CA,
now on a Ducati Multistrada 1200. Great bike. All is well, partly because of this vest.

By all means, get one.
I was wondering which size to go with. I am 6'2 and 175 pounds. I usually wear a medium t-shirt. What size do you guys think i should go with?
A shopper on Mar 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I am 6'3 and 160... I got the medium and it's snug but in a good way. I would probably say you should go with a large seeing as you are 15 pounds heavier than me, but everyone's build can be different. I'm thinking a large would be best for you.
How breathable is this vest? Will it make you sweat a lot on an 80 degree day with just a T-shirt underneath and nothing over the top?
A shopper on Aug 25, 2013
BEST ANSWER: This is an amazing product that offers great protection from front to back. The breathability is not a factor; the mesh allows tons of air. I have worn this in 90+ degree heat with no issues. Cleaning is very easy, the back protector can be unzipped from the vest in seconds. Please note this vest is meant to be worn underneath a leather jacket or suit, it would not be recommended to wear the vest by itself.
Cons: I did notice some stitching was coming loose when I got the vest and I was afraid it would deteriorate over time. I have had the vest for almost 2 years now and it has held up pretty well.
How do you wash this vest? Given that the pads are not removable, I don't know whether it can be safely soaked in soapy water. Gotta wash it good, tho, cuz it stinks! Thx.
A shopper on Apr 2, 2014
BEST ANSWER: That is a good question. I took off the back protector and hand washed mine and let it hand dry.

I didn't go crazy with the water or soapy. Still fits the same
I just bought the tech arrow backpack. I believe it fits a medium bionic back protector but I figured if I'm wearing the back protector it would be better than having it in the backpack. I saw this vest I love the look i'm wondering if it would be as effective at doing it's job under the backpack or no to keep looking? the weather here in Texas can get up to three digits in the summer and with so many lights my leather jacket from a stars just gets too hot to wear on streets
Roque R on Mar 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have had this product for over 2 years and its has been amazing. For maximum protection wear this product under a leather jacket. I dont believe this product was meant to be worn by itself. This product breathes incredibly well, very light weight, comfortable to wear and pretty much molds to your body over time.

To answer your question:
1. The back pack idea would be a waste of money. On impact the protection would sift too much to be effective. Even the protector inserts in the jackets are too small to offer good overall back protection.
2. Yes, if you must, you can wear the vest by itself and it will provide great back protection. At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I have gone for a quick ride with just the vest on and its been complimented almost every were I went.
Does it limit how much you can curve your back? I'm looking into this for endurance horseback riding and while riding we curve our back in to keep looking up while staying centered in the saddle.
A shopper on Sep 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: With my experience with this vest I haven't run into any limitations bending forward like your picking something up. Now bending backwards like your gonna do a back flip could be and issue but as far as curving your back to stay more in a straight position to look forward no problem at all. I've done this comfortably on the bike. At first it feels a bit weird because of the design of the vest but you get used to it pretty quick, it's light, breeds air really good ( depending on your speed ???? ) and offers a lot of protection. Hopefully I've answered your question. Good luck
fit under tight track suit?
A shopper on Jul 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Depends on how tight of course. When I take the back protector out of my Dainese full leather suit, I can just fit in it with the vest on. My suit fits like a custom but isn't. If you have a "little play" in an off-the-rack suit, then it probably will.
if i want to make combine between this (Alpinestars Track Protection Vest) and (River Road Scout Jacket) to wear the vest under this jacket for more protection, so does they fit correctly together, because iam new biker and i have harley davidson street bob 2013 thats why i want to buy curiser classic jacket with more protection for me?
Mohamed M on Sep 17, 2013
BEST ANSWER: It fits nicely under a jacket with the back off. If the jacket you buy has armor in it also then it becomes too bulky in my opinion. This is a great vest to wear by itself. I usually wear it when it's warm over my jacket.
