Fits It fits over my fat belly and seems to provide decent protection, but I wouldn't really know for sure since I haven't been in an accident with it. The only complaint I can make is that it seems that the top of the back protector comes up a bit too high and nudges against my helmet if I tilt my head back. Usually don't notice it though. Great product fits nice and snug This item is great. I was using a cheap field armor vest to commute around town and decided to go with this nice piece from alpinestars. First off it fit nice and snug and dissapears as you start to ride. Air flow is awesome for hot summer days. Also very stylish with the all white back protector and feels secure for a basic vest to just throw on real quick. Wearing this vest under a full suit gives great protection against your back which was my main concern. Overall would recommend everyone to try it out! July 30, 2014
Great addition I love the vest design with the spine brace built in. Wear it under my jacket, or by itself on extremely hot days. Great flexibility, really comfortable. Fits a bit tight. June 17, 2014
AlpineStars Track Vest So far i like the product. Its nice being able to take my suit off and leave the vest on. My only problem is that my suit is pretty tight so when i go to pull my suit over the vest, the vest rides up some and becomes bunched at the top, takes another person to push it back down into the correct location. I ordered a M and i am 5'11" 167lbs wear a size 42 suit. Thanks, hope this helps. May 13, 2014
So damm dope. Haven't crashed to test its performance it looks dank AF on me. The fit is wonderful and very comfortable as well as pretty light for what it is. The softer padding has holes in it to vent, and they work great. Even being a black vest, it's fairly cool in the sun. My only two recommendations are to have a cell phone pocket somewhere (like inside the zipper would be nice) and offering different color options. Oh I forgot to mention that the back protector is removable by zipper. Even just different colored back protectors would be easy for them to do, and would match up with a lot of their other products. I actually think they're discontinuing this product, and I'm assuming it's because of the price, but if u want some protection on hot summer days, but don't wanna look like robocop, it's well worth it. I may buy another one actually. In case they really do discontinue it (like I did with the alpinestars S-1 gloves) April 25, 2014
Great protection This vest is great, stays in place. I wore it first time for two days at Code's CA superbike school in WillowSprings. It fit nice under my Spidi RR Wind Pro suit. I didn't know I had it on, didn't add any weight, heat, or flexibility issues. The only minor issue I have with it is getting my arms out the suit. The back of the suit will "stick" or get caught on top of the vest's back protector. You can get out, but having a buddy just pull your suit over the back protector is easier. Other than that the vest is a great buy and versatile. I will be wearing it for street riding under my street jacket. March 25, 2014
Good snug vest for short trips or under a not so snug suit Bought the vest to go under suit for back and extra chest protection. Works well although a little snug under the leathers. Vents well and very stylish. Although don't feel great about it (always should wear full protection), wear vest for short commute to work when I take bike or around town. Very pleased with purchase. Joshua A: I needed back protection for my new jacket and opted to get a protective vest instead of a jacket-based insert. Pretty cool so far. May 7, 2014
David B: I was looking for something to augment my leather riding jacket. This vest will fill the void in padding and also be useful when the temp and humidity rise through the summer here in Bermuda. Mar 2, 2014
Alexis G: Commuting protection!!! Nov 16, 2013
Brandan B: Based on reviews and knowing alpinestars to be a top brand in motox sport science I was a kid, and didnt want to go cheap on protection. Oct 1, 2013

A shopper asked: I was looking at getting this for ATV riding, and wearing it underneath the jersey. Would this be a good choice? Or/and what other products would you recommend? Thank you. Jun 18, 2014

Barrick M: This vest is really good.

It was originally intended for racers that didn't want to move their armor from one suit to the next, where they apparently use multiple suits during a race.

But I'm not a racer. I wear a suit that doesn't have the back and torso protection this vest offers. So I wear it under my full body suit, after removing the back protector that came with the body suit. It works great.

I must tell you that I unfortunately had the opportunity to put it to a real world test. I ran into a very large male deer at 50 mph with this vest on. It totaled my motorcycle and banged me up pretty good. I landed on my back.

This vest probably prevented me from becoming hurt much worse that I was. My helmet also took a pretty good beating.

I replaced all of my riding gear and got a slightly bigger motorcycle.

I don't ride it without this vest on. I feel completely naked without it.

I don't work for AlpineStars or RevZilla. I ride in the mountains of Northern CA,
now on a Ducati Multistrada 1200. Great bike. All is well, partly because of this vest.

By all means, get one.

Andrei C: Yes, it would be a good choice. What I like about the track protection vest is that it's light, unobtrusive and offers Level 2 back protection. I wear it everywhere I ride. During the summer, I wear this on top of a t-shirt or long sleeve. When it gets cooler out, rains, or when I go on long road trips, I wear this underneath a leather jacket, and it never feels too bulky. I never ride without it. Jun 18, 2014

Todd M: I use it for track days or in addition with my armored dainese jacket for long highway trips. I'm not familiar about off road use and what is recommended as appropriate protection. I hope this helps. Jun 18, 2014

A shopper asked: How breathable is this vest? Will it make you sweat a lot on an 80 degree day with just a T-shirt underneath and nothing over the top? Aug 25, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
fahad a: This is an amazing product that offers great protection from front to back. The breathability is not a factor; the mesh allows tons of air. I have worn this in 90+ degree heat with no issues. Cleaning is very easy, the back protector can be unzipped from the vest in seconds. Please note this vest is meant to be worn underneath a leather jacket or suit, it would not be recommended to wear the vest by itself.
Cons: I did notice some stitching was coming loose when I got the vest and I was afraid it would deteriorate over time. I have had the vest for almost 2 years now and it has held up pretty well.

Mohamed M: if i want to make combine between this (Alpinestars Track Protection Vest) and (River Road Scout Jacket) to wear the vest under this jacket for more protection, so does they fit correctly together, because iam new biker and i have harley davidson street bob 2013 thats why i want to buy curiser classic jacket with more protection for me. A shopper asked: How do you wash this vest? Given that the pads are not removable, I don't know whether it can be safely soaked in soapy water. Gotta wash it good, tho, cuz it stinks! Thx. Apr 2, 2014

Dan P: That is a good question. I took off the back protector and hand washed mine and let it hand dry.

I didn't go crazy with the water or soapy. Still fits the same

Roque R asked: I just bought the tech arrow backpack. I believe it fits a medium bionic back protector but I figured if I'm wearing the back protector it would be better than having it in the backpack. I saw this vest I love the look i'm wondering if it would be as effective at doing it's job under the backpack or no to keep looking? the weather here in Texas can get up to three digits in the summer and with so many lights my leather jacket from a stars just gets too hot to wear on streets Mar 20, 2014

fahad a: I have had this product for over 2 years and its has been amazing. For maximum protection wear this product under a leather jacket. I dont believe this product was meant to be worn by itself. This product breathes incredibly well, very light weight, comfortable to wear and pretty much molds to your body over time.

To answer your question:
1. The back pack idea would be a waste of money. On impact the protection would sift too much to be effective. Even the protector inserts in the jackets are too small to offer good overall back protection.
2. Yes, if you must, you can wear the vest by itself and it will provide great back protection. At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I have gone for a quick ride with just the vest on and its been complimented almost every were I went.

Todd M: I'm not familiar with the backpack you described, but I do have the Alpine Stars track vest. I find it very comfortable in hot weather and easily fits under a jacket or sweatshirt when applicable. I removed the protective white plastic shield on the back side of the vest and spray painted it matte black.....a much better look in my opinion.

Andrei C: I bought this track vest because I was having the same issues with summers in San Diego in that I needed good back protection without overheating. What I love about this is that it's not bulky, has level 2 back protection and fits underneath my leather jacket with ease. I would definitely wear this instead of relying on back protection in a backpack. There is also padding in the front, which is more than a backpack has in terms of protection. I highly recommend this product. Hope this helps! Mar 20, 2014

Alisa J: Not quite sure if I understand your question but... I where this vest, and regardless of weather I am wearing a back pack or not, the vest will do the job. A backpack would just be added cushioning. I got hit in October 2013 while wearing this. My body felt nothing. Thankfully it was a slow. I wear this vest all summer long, I also waer it in the winter under my leather. It's great. Mar 23, 2014

Alexis G: This vest is great in terms of protection and fit....but it gets hot during Texas summer days if you get stuck in traffic... I use it for my long commute(1hour each way) but you have to note that you will be bigger, in other words, you may have to change your jacket size (if your old jacket fits really tight)... For summer you will need a mesh jacket with this vest... Mar 20, 2014

Romeo D: I use it in the summer by itself over a t shirt here in NJ. I occasionally use a pack over it and it works, but I can't speak to how much protection....air flows nicely through this. Mar 20, 2014

Kent S asked: I want some protection for my ribs as well as my back, seems like I'm skilled at breaking ribs. Does this have decent padding around the sides, do you feel protected from a good hit to the ribs? The armor looks very slim and comfortable, which is great, but does it seem well padded to you other than the CE level 2 back?

Thanks, Kent

Joshua H: Sides have minimal padding.. The front and back are most well protected areas. Not sure it would prevent ribs from breaking, but would be better than nothing at all. I love this vest and during summer months I usually wear it in lieu of a jacket. I give up arm protection, but I know my back chest will be sufficiently protected. Dec 28, 2013

Jordan Y: Padding in the chest and back area is good. Everywhere else is minimal and would not be effective in a crash. The chest padding covers all but the lower couple of ribs. Dec 27, 2013

Kent S: Thanks for the quick answers. I'm going to keep looking for better rib protection, that's all I ever break so I better get 'em covered up. Dec 28, 2013

A shopper asked: I was wondering which size to go with. I am 6'2 and 175 pounds. I usually wear a medium t-shirt. What size do you guys think i should go with? Mar 20, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Joshua H: I am 6'3 and 160... I got the medium and it's snug but in a good way. I would probably say you should go with a large seeing as you are 15 pounds heavier than me, but everyone's build can be different. I'm thinking a large would be best for you. Mar 20, 2014
Reply to Joshua Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Aris P: I'm 6 ft and 160 lbs and the medium fits well and is not confining. Sounds like a medium would work for you. Don't forget about the extra room you will need in your jacket Mar 21, 2014

Joshua H: It fits nicely under a jacket with the back off. If the jacket you buy has armor in it also then it becomes too bulky in my opinion. This is a great vest to wear by itself. I usually wear it when it's warm over my jacket. Sep 17, 2013

Luis M: I wear it under my leather suit and it fits fine. It shouldn't be a problem for you. Just make sure the vest fits you tight. Sep 17, 2013
