Good riding boot(shoe)
I wore these boots (more like riding shoes) on a 4k mile, 10 day road trip. I chose them because I wanted more protection than non-motorcycling footwear, but also wanted something that would be comfortable when off the bike as well.

Pros: the boots are relatively light-weight. Rode through rain on more than half the days, my feet never got wet (Gore-Tex worked great). Just make sure that your pants extend below the top of the boot to prevent water from coming in over your ankles. Rode in weather ranging from 100 degrees in the sun to 42 degrees in the mountains. Feet remained comfortable in both those extremes. I like that when you are wearing pants, they cover the strap and the boots don't look much like riding boots when off the bike. Felt very comfortable walking around in these boots.

Cons: I would not recommend these as touring boots, even though that is how I applied them. I would like to have a stronger toe box. You feel the shifter on the top of your foot more than you do with real riding boots. I also found that when it rained, the sole of the foot was a little slippery on the pegs. There is a notch in the sole, but it is at a slight taper, so it doesn't lock itself to the peg as solidly as I am used to. These are low cut, just barely above the ankle. When it was raining, I had to keep pulling on my pant leg to make sure it was covering the top of the boot, to prevent rain from entering the top. I like the velcro, but the laces are a little clumbersome. The last eyelet is just below the Velcro strap. So tying the shoe laces is not as effective as it could be if the eyelets went higher on the boot to get above the strap. The strap gets in the way of tying the laces.

Overall: I am happy with these boots. I will continue to wear them. They make great commuter boots. Wouldn't recommend them for long distance/tour riding. Sizing felt true to size, relative to street shoes I buy. If you are looking for an all-weather commuter shoe, these work great!

Great choice for all day on/off the bike riding shoes
I purchased these for riding to work and back, with the intention of wearing them all day during work. I have not been disappointed. They are as comfortable as riding shoes get for off the bike, casual wearing. I would definitely recommend them.

Great Stylish Shoe!
So happy with the purchase, the Sierra look really awesome and very comfortable too!
I chose the Sierra because I use my bike Fireblade for commuting to home and office. I needed a riding shoe and at the sametime walk around the office in style ;)
And I also commute even during there's a light drizzle, I have yet to try the shoe during light rain.

This shoes really fits my needs! and I want to say again, It really looks good! very stylish!

I also plan to go to the twisties first very quickly before going straight to the office as if I just came from home. So I need this all-around shoe.

I get goosebumps when I stare on my feet with the Sierra on them! :)

Great all around boot/shoe
I dig these boots! I bought these as commuter boots to provide water proofing and also be on the cooler side as the typical w/p boots are not breathable generally. The soles are a bit on the stiff side and AP seems to be getting through this by having a lower ankle section at the rear of the boot to provide the ankle with enough room to travel. That being said, I am really digging these boots. They have been my daily commuters throughout this year and I have also taken them on a cross country ride of over 5600 miles and I have to say these boots were all I needed. When I first acquired these, I figured I would be putting insoles within to soften the impact on the foot. I have yet to do this and its been roughly 6-8 months. Overall these are a great buy and will get commuters through the day with little discomfort throughout all aspects of a downtown commuter/walker/rider usage. I also coach football and wear these throughout practice too. Definitely recommend!

Stylish and dry!
I got these after my last pair of waterproof shoes turned out to be too uncomfortable to wear all day at work. I saw these from Alpinestars, and since I'm happy with all the gear I've got from them, I gave them a shot. They fit the bill perfectly. I work comfortably in them all day, and come home with dry feet. And living in northern Florida, it rains every afternoon, so that's saying something. Very happy with these all around. And look cool to boot! Pun intended.

I picked these boots because they resemble hiking boots, which are just casual enough to walk around in without throwing off my outfits. Honestly, I could not find another boot that resembled this style in any brand. It was a nice plus that they happened to be Alpinestars :)

Was looking for Gore-Tex Boots. I am hoping these will be good for riding and walking around off the bike. It looks like they provide features that are good for protection on the bike similar to other brand boots I have had. It also looks like they have good tread. My previous pair of boots I have worn the tread off at the ball of the foot, but the rest of the boot is in great shape. I am hoping the soles of these hold up a little better.

Great looking, light weight sport touring boot. If you have a regular width foot these will fit you fine. If you have a wide foot you're out of luck, they'll be too tight. The TCX Jupiter is made wider than most and fits fine.

I did a lot of research for the right pair of shoes for my 30 minute commute to work and back each day. It was a hard decision between the Fastback WP version and these. I purchased the Fastback WP and was extremely happy, but coming into summer they make my feet a little warm as I wear them all day. That is why I decided on getting these shoes now. I can wear these in the hotter months and the Fastback WP's in the colder/wet months. I hope this helps someone else?

My wife has a pair of these and really likes them. I usually wear a more substantial boot, but for weekend trips around town or to the beach, I'd like to have a lighter boot that I can walk around in. Plus I like the fast lacing system.

I want a good boot that I can walk around all day in without compromising protection. Is goretex breathability really that good? I want to know how they compare to the alpinestars smx-2's which are beefy but hot and uncomfortable to have on a day. I'm also looking at the Alpinestars Faster vented shoe, but it doesnt seem to provide much protection.
A shopper on Apr 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have only worn these boots twice since purchasing them. So far, they are very comfortable on the bike but a little stiff in the lower ankle while waking around. They may break in a little after more use, but I can't say for sure. It hasn't been hot enough yet for me to speak on how they will breathe in warmer temps.
I'm torn between the CR-4 and the Sierra. I want the heel of the CR-4 but the breathe-ability of the Sierra. Being from PA, I don't ride as much in the depths of winter. I'm much more spring-summer-fall rider. I'm leaning towards the Sierra. What would you recommend?
gary s on Aug 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I haven't seen the CR-4 boots but I'm on my second pair of Sierra boots and I'm quite happy with them. The CR-4 had first come out when I bought my second pair of Sierra boots and from everything I read about them I thought a second pair of Sierra boots was the best choice. The breath-ability you get with the goretex is awesome and the boots seem more durable to me as there is more leather and durable material in the upper. One of my needs was also a more normal looking boot and the Sierras really look like a hiking boot to me. The only drawback with the Sierra that I've run into is that the laces are not very durable. The metal lace eyelets will cause the lace to come apart after about 8 months.
I'm torn between the Sierra, sp1 and the faster boots. I commute mostly with the occasional back road ride. I want good protection without being too uncomfortable. I've had the type of eyelets for the laces on my last shift boots and they literally tore apart. Are alpinestars a better quality? What would be the best boot for comfort durability and safety. I would not be walking in them all day but would like something comfortable on the bike that moves around on the pegs easily. Thanks.
A shopper on Feb 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These boots are awesome! Very comfortable to wear around, and are the first pair of riding shoes/boots that felt like a glove the first time I put them on. They have only gotten more comfortable with wear. And I still don't know how it works that they keep my feet dry in rain yet stay cool on hot days. Love them!
Was wondering how these boots are on the pegs. Can you maneuver your feet easily on the pegs or do they get hung up with the more aggressive looking soles? And how breathable are they in warm weather? Thanks, Ron.
A shopper on Feb 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hey Ron,

You can easily modulate or move your feet on the pegs. They're lightweight, and the soles are a gentle nook to place your feet.

In warm weather their quite warm and stay cozy. When your moving they'll cool a bit but they stay temperature neutral. It's all season so they're good from about 40F to 90F no problems.

If you ride in a warm area and ride into the unexpected rain, and ride through gentle southern California winters, these are great boots.

Great spring summer fall boots. Id buy them again
How is the fit on this boot? True to size, run big, or run small?
Malcolm S on Feb 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I found them pretty true to size but I actually returned them. I was not really impressed with the quality of them for the price.
Why was my question regarding where tis boot is made deleted?
John B on May 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Idk why it was but they are made in Vietnam like most alpine star gear

The Sierra is now the fraternal twin of something like the CR4 which is much more of a hiking inspired cortex boot.  The Sierra almost jokingly we call a tech commuter boot from Alpinestars because you're around $200, you're getting a good mix of protection, you're getting Gore-Tex which is waterproof breathable guaranteed for life.  The highest degree of waterproofness but if we really look at it, it's really kind of three season warm weather.  You have these mesh panels.  It's not going to be as insulated from the elements.  I really think it's a spring, summer, fall, dry and wet weather boot that has a touring flavor to it.  All in, I'm a fan of it.  It replaces something called the Africa which was part of the Alpinestars collection we saw previously and didn't quite know what it wanted to be.

This guy is much more defined in its placement as really this multi-season tech touring, tech commuting boot and it does have a less than stiff.  So I'm going to give it about a seven on the scale.  It's not really a hiking boot like that CR4 but it's going to be good enough to rock under our pair of jeans.  You could walk around it all day.  Now, fit side, no issues here.  Alpinestars gets the American market.  I find that I'm a 43 in it. I'm about a 9, 9 1/2 in a pair of Nike sneakers.  Again that's typically where I fall in Alpinestars race boots, Alpinestars touring boots.  Again, no issues there.  Remember we'll ship for free.  Let me hear your opinion too of the Alpinestars Sierra GTX.  Subscribe to us at RevZilla TV by clicking right there and leaving your comments or questions and your feedback.  Now diving into the boot itself, synthetic suede kind of pulling it all together.  You're going to see TPR at the toe moving in a lateral side along the edge.  Great low side protection.  A nice big TPR stitched on here as well on a different style with an A Star's logo.

Moving in the back, hell counter that comes up, TPR reinforced ankle and heel cockpit which is a nice touch and looking up around the ankle great malleolus hard part.  That's that Fred Flintstone bone on the lateral side, on the medial side again encapsulated with leather and you also have this big strap that's not even covering any laces that just ties everything at the top.  It's going to keep on your foot in case of a crash scenario.  Now looking at the lace, reflectivity baked into the eyelet.  They are low profile and rounded.  I'd love to see them a little bit more covered.  But again then you'd be taken away from that reflectivity.  And then moving into your shift panel, notice duel recess stitching area of TPR, great for your controls.  And it does have a decently reinforced toe box.  I think they could have beef it up a little further but again you're looking right around the $200 mark.  So again they have to make some tradeoffs.

Mesh on the inside and remember behind that mesh it's not direct venting.  It's the Gore-Tex liner so it vents the Gore-Tex liner promoting faster evaporation.  So especially if your foot sweats in the summer time, this is going to be an awesome boot that's still waterproof but isn't going to get your foot wet if you get caught in a cloud burst.  Moving on to the guts here down into the sole, it is a two way grip sole.  Again flexible.  Really kind of an on the bike off the bike commuter style sole.
