Alpinestars Sierra Gore-Tex XCR Boots 4 5 1 1
Good riding boot(shoe) I wore these boots (more like riding shoes) on a 4k mile, 10 day road trip. I chose them because I wanted more protection than non-motorcycling footwear, but also wanted something that would be comfortable when off the bike as well. Pros: the boots are relatively light-weight. Rode through rain on more than half the days, my feet never got wet (Gore-Tex worked great). Just make sure that your pants extend below the top of the boot to prevent water from coming in over your ankles. Rode in weather ranging from 100 degrees in the sun to 42 degrees in the mountains. Feet remained comfortable in both those extremes. I like that when you are wearing pants, they cover the strap and the boots don't look much like riding boots when off the bike. Felt very comfortable walking around in these boots. Cons: I would not recommend these as touring boots, even though that is how I applied them. I would like to have a stronger toe box. You feel the shifter on the top of your foot more than you do with real riding boots. I also found that when it rained, the sole of the foot was a little slippery on the pegs. There is a notch in the sole, but it is at a slight taper, so it doesn't lock itself to the peg as solidly as I am used to. These are low cut, just barely above the ankle. When it was raining, I had to keep pulling on my pant leg to make sure it was covering the top of the boot, to prevent rain from entering the top. I like the velcro, but the laces are a little clumbersome. The last eyelet is just below the Velcro strap. So tying the shoe laces is not as effective as it could be if the eyelets went higher on the boot to get above the strap. The strap gets in the way of tying the laces. Overall: I am happy with these boots. I will continue to wear them. They make great commuter boots. Wouldn't recommend them for long distance/tour riding. Sizing felt true to size, relative to street shoes I buy. If you are looking for an all-weather commuter shoe, these work great! September 12, 2014

James P: My wife has a pair of these and really likes them. I usually wear a more substantial boot, but for weekend trips around town or to the beach, I'd like to have a lighter boot that I can walk around in. Plus I like the fast lacing system. Jun 16, 2014

A shopper asked: I want a good boot that I can walk around all day in without compromising protection. Is goretex breathability really that good? I want to know how they compare to the alpinestars smx-2's which are beefy but hot and uncomfortable to have on a day. I'm also looking at the Alpinestars Faster vented shoe, but it doesnt seem to provide much protection. Apr 15, 2014

william c: I have only worn these boots twice since purchasing them. So far, they are very comfortable on the bike but a little stiff in the lower ankle while waking around. They may break in a little after more use, but I can't say for sure. It hasn't been hot enough yet for me to speak on how they will breathe in warmer temps. Apr 15, 2014

The Sierra is now the fraternal twin of something like the CR4 which is much more of a hiking inspired cortex boot.  The Sierra almost jokingly we call a tech commuter boot from Alpinestars because you're around $200, you're getting a good mix of protection, you're getting Gore-Tex which is waterproof breathable guaranteed for life.  The highest degree of waterproofness but if we really look at it, it's really kind of three season warm weather.  You have these mesh panels.  It's not going to be as insulated from the elements.  I really think it's a spring, summer, fall, dry and wet weather boot that has a touring flavor to it.  All in, I'm a fan of it.  It replaces something called the Africa which was part of the Alpinestars collection we saw previously and didn't quite know what it wanted to be.

This guy is much more defined in its placement as really this multi-season tech touring, tech commuting boot and it does have a less than stiff.  So I'm going to give it about a seven on the scale.  It's not really a hiking boot like that CR4 but it's going to be good enough to rock under our pair of jeans.  You could walk around it all day.  Now, fit side, no issues here.  Alpinestars gets the American market.  I find that I'm a 43 in it. I'm about a 9, 9 1/2 in a pair of Nike sneakers.  Again that's typically where I fall in Alpinestars race boots, Alpinestars touring boots.  Again, no issues there.  Remember we'll ship for free.  Let me hear your opinion too of the Alpinestars Sierra GTX.  Subscribe to us at RevZilla TV by clicking right there and leaving your comments or questions and your feedback.  Now diving into the boot itself, synthetic suede kind of pulling it all together.  You're going to see TPR at the toe moving in a lateral side along the edge.  Great low side protection.  A nice big TPR stitched on here as well on a different style with an A Star's logo.

Moving in the back, hell counter that comes up, TPR reinforced ankle and heel cockpit which is a nice touch and looking up around the ankle great malleolus hard part.  That's that Fred Flintstone bone on the lateral side, on the medial side again encapsulated with leather and you also have this big strap that's not even covering any laces that just ties everything at the top.  It's going to keep on your foot in case of a crash scenario.  Now looking at the lace, reflectivity baked into the eyelet.  They are low profile and rounded.  I'd love to see them a little bit more covered.  But again then you'd be taken away from that reflectivity.  And then moving into your shift panel, notice duel recess stitching area of TPR, great for your controls.  And it does have a decently reinforced toe box.  I think they could have beef it up a little further but again you're looking right around the $200 mark.  So again they have to make some tradeoffs.

Mesh on the inside and remember behind that mesh it's not direct venting.  It's the Gore-Tex liner so it vents the Gore-Tex liner promoting faster evaporation.  So especially if your foot sweats in the summer time, this is going to be an awesome boot that's still waterproof but isn't going to get your foot wet if you get caught in a cloud burst.  Moving on to the guts here down into the sole, it is a two way grip sole.  Again flexible.  Really kind of an on the bike off the bike commuter style sole.
