Excellent protection!
Got few chances to ride in strong rain with those pants. Definitely 100% protection from water. Did not ride in really cold temperature but they kept me warm while riding in about 10 degrees centigrade.
All in all great pants, really durable and serve me well.
I got the XL size and it's a bit too big but nothing to worry about.

Worked for me
Just returned from a 12 day trip through WA/OR/ID wearing the AST-1 pants. I encountered everything from monsoon rains on the I5 in Seattle to 40F temps and the AST-1 's kept me dry and pretty warm(with a thin pair of Merino long johns underneath). Didn't encounter any really warm or hot days so can't speak as to comfort in those conditions. Was very impressed with their waterproofness.

Good Value as 3 season pant, but I doubt the durability in a crash
One thing that is not mentioned is that the size runs about 1 size larger. When I bought my airflow alpinestars pants, I had to get a large or size 50, but for this when I bought a large it was way too big. Bought a small off eBay (international customer so postage would be too expensive to return) and it fits perfectly. The value is good because you can wear it most seasons except summer but it is a budget pant and the only impact protection is in the knees but if you wear full length boots it should cover up to your shins anyway. Also durability is average because it feels like i'm just wearing fabric, what's stopping it from coming off my waist in the event of a backwards slide, but it's better than jeans plus waterproof so that's why I bought it.

Nice pants that could be better given the price point and the manufacturer
I purchased these pants back in September but I wanted to hold off on writing a review until I had chance to put some miles on them. Here is what I think.
PROS:
Good solid construction and fit, basically what you would expect from a top brand like Alpinestars. Pants have sturdy feel and knee inserts and hip padding provide additional protection. Articulated leg construction allows for a perfect fit while seated but at the same time pants look fine when off the bike. Unlike many other pants that I tried they don’t have that look of baggy oversized ski pants that bunch up when you stand. Reflective piping is a nice touch. Looks are definitely strong side of these pants. Thanks to the crazy fall that we had so far in Northeast I have used the pants in temperatures ranging from high 30’s to low 80’s. Once the temperature gets pass high 70’s pants tend to get warm unless you are moving. I was fine wearing them with no additional layers underneath in 39 degree weather. The climate control of these pants is very impressive
CONS:
My biggest complaint is with the fact that these pants don’t have a zipper so if you have to answer the nature call things tend to get complicated. Second complaint is with lack of pockets. The sole pocket is flat pocket located on the upper thigh of the left leg. I am glad that they don’t have those bulky cargo pockets but it would be nice if pants had another pocket on the other leg or a back pocket. Even though pants are part of Alpinestars “City” collection color and material does not match jackets from the same collection.
I’m 6”1, 185 ponds and I got these pants in “L”. I would guess that waist size is 36 since I normally take 34 and they are bit large in the waist….
Overall I’m satisfied with the pants even though given their manufacturer and the price point I expected a slightly better product.
