The first upgrade most people look to make when they buy a motorcycle jacket is the addition of a back protector. While some manufacturers do include a CE back protector in their jackets by default (rare), we have found it is much more common that a manufacturer simply includes a piece of temperfoam and leaves the option of upgrading to a more beefy protector an option to the customer. This foam pad will not in our opinion provide an adequate level of protection and thus most customers do opt to upgrade their back protector. Whether it's a third-party licensed motorcycle back protector, such as the SAS-TEC or Knox protectors that fit REV'IT! jackets, or a proprietary option such as the Alpinestars RC back protector, you'll be taking a big step up from the included foam pads that come with most jackets. Taking the next-step beyond a back protector insert is the option of a stand-alone 'harness' style back protector. While commonplace on the track, these back protectors will typically provide more coverage then a standard back protector insert and many safety-conscious riders wear them on the street.
