The fit seems right on. Tjhe quality of the leather is very good. Supple, yet heavy enough that it should take lots of use and abuse. It is the middle of winter so I don't know about day long comfort, but I have been wearing them in the house and they seem very good. It appears that not much break in time will be required. I am anxious to ride with them in the rain to test their waterproof claims. So far, I am very happy with the purchase.
Pros Comfortable, Fashionable, Rugged

Don't know on the long term use yet as I just got them, but litterly put them on and went out in a down pour and they did great, not a damp sock on either foot. Great boot if you need to wear at work as and not look like a biker. I usually wear 10.5, but got 10's based on other review and a little snug but I'll stick with them.
Pros Fashionable, Comfortable

Answer: 
The company claims inner protection, but stops short on actually saying "shin guard." Remember, these companies will brag about anything to sell the product. Gaerne is a great boot company and I have a feeling that you want a boot that doesn't look so much like a motorcycle boot when you're off the bike. Good luck with that one. You see, in order for then, "even the Italians," to make a protective boot, they have to add reinforcement, which will make it ugly. Gaerne and Sidi will come way closer than most in making it look good too.
