Bought the jacket last winter and have some miles on it. It's respectably dirty now, frayed just a bit. Without a doubt the jacket is 100% waterproof, with great wind protection in the cold. The jacket fits great and is easy to work the vents while riding. I agree the back padding is a tad lame. If I wear this one out I'll look for one just like it. Well done First Gear. This is a versatile jacket you can depend on.

I tried a couple of other jackets including the leather ones and finally decided to settle for the Teton. It has lots of features, well ventilated and very comfortable. The removal inner jacket is stylish and warm on its own. The great thing I love about this jacket is that it is stylish and yet waterproof making it something I could wear all year round.
One thing though the D30 armor sounds great but I am not sure how much protection it provides in time of need. I am am sure it does but I don't want to find out, some of the other jackets you can feel the armor but in this one it feels squishy until you hit it with a lot of force. But it does allow a better range of motion.
One thing though, hence the 4 star review, you definitely have to upgrade the back support. For $$$ I am not sure why First Gear would provide such a flimsy backsupport.

Outstanding jacket. Expensive, but worth it. Comfortable in cold temperatures. Have not tested in warm temperatures with the liner out. Only negative point is the lack of velcro on the collar so it can be folded back when not buttoned.

I live in SOUTH Florida and from May until Sept the Humidity climes above the 50% from our winter to near 90% and with temps in the high 80s to mid 90s, it is Hot - as quoted in Biloxi Blues ... damn Its hot damn its Africa Hot here... So finding a SAFE jacket for summer riding is not as easy as it sounds. To much safety and you have a heat stroke to little - no protection why wear. This jacket is fantastic. I will still wear with some temp control but fantastic Summer Wear product

First, the size is a little tight with the liner, but spot on without. The First Gear sizing chart is accurate without the liner. Measure yourself, then go one size larger if you need the liner. During winter, you will want the liner, so be aware.
This jacket is absolutely waterproof (and with or without the liner, unlike almost ever jacket out there). I'm not a big fan of the arm adjusters, but I might get into them. The pockets are 100% waterproof. It has great venting for the summer.
This is an expensive jacket, but it really exceeds the competition by a lot. Similarly priced jackets from BMW, for example, require you to buy a gore-tex liner if you want real waterproofing. I'm skeptical of an internal waterproofing being of any real value, especially if you have stuff in your pocket, like cell phones, that shouldn't get wet.
I've worn all kinds of jackets, mesh, leather, textile, from most of the major manufacturers. This is my favorite by far.

This jacket does not come with a CE back protector and FirstGear unfortunately does not make one to fit the back protector pocket. The best solution for a jacket like this would be to take a SAS-TEC, or similar product and cut it to fit.
