The jacket fits true to size and gets compliments every time i've worn it. The new out of the box "plastic" smell goes away after a couple of days. Overall a great jacket!

I couldn't be happier with the jacket--fits well (especially on the bike), feels very durable with heavy fabric and good armor, very weather resistant, and the zip-out liner makes it quite versitile. If you already have a good summer jacket, this should take care of you for the rest of the riding season.
Only complaint: it has taken weeks of riding in the wind and rain before the horrible smell of petroleum or whatever it is has finally begun to fade. Seriously, this is one rank-smelling jacket fresh out of the box.

So far I'm very satisfied with the Messenger jacket. It is the first piece of Alpinestars gear I have bought and I am really impressed with the build quality. The shell is a thick, durable material, and the bio-armor offers confidence-inspiring protection without being cumbersome. I don't think I would ever wear this jacket and expect to get away with it looking like a normal jacket as the video review suggests, but it is close enough. Don't expect to get a ton of airflow either; being wind/waterproof it isn't very breathable, and is definitely an early spring/late fall/winter jacket. For me the biggest selling point was the style, I ride a Triumph Bonneville, live in the middle of DC, and have always been a fan of the retro/classic/urban look, something the Messenger has in spades. I'll probably be ordering another piece of apparel from Alpinestars' City collection in the near future!

I have purchased this jacket in order to be able to ride as long as I can so I needed something that will keep me warm/dry in the upcoming months. Jacket color is a nice olive/green tone combination. It is slightly different color then it appears to be on the website but I loved it none the less. Design and workmanship of the jacket appear to be of superior quality. Lot of nice little touches that increase the functionality. For example, jacket has flaps that fold over the zipper to make it windproof. Liner has the opening so that you can reach through to get to the inside pocket. Collar is nice and snug fitting. Outsides pocket are large and easy to reach. Velcro straps on sleeves, side vents –lot of nice features. Shoulder and arm protection is well positioned. I am not sure if you can add back protection, I took a brief glance and I didn’t see the pocket for back insert but I need to take a closer look. I was curious about the “waterproof” claim so I put one of the sleeves under the tap and run water over it for about 30-40 seconds. Water was bouncing off the sleeve and inside stayed dry. The only thing that I wasn’t perfectly happy with is the zipper. Even though it appears to be sturdy and of very high quality it is rather small. That makes it hard to insert. Definitely not something that you could operate with your gloves on. Larger zipper would definitely be a plus. Finally this jacket seems to run on a small size. I am 6’1, 185 pounds, tall and lanky. Normally I wear things that are fitted. Depending on a cut/manufacturer I can get in size M or L. Size XL is usually way too big for me. Since this jacket went on sale they were out of M and L so I got the XL. Even though it didn’t fit the way that I would ideally like it to fit it wasn’t way too big/ill fitting in a way that XL items normally are. Anyone who is built differently or likes looser fitting clothes should probably go size up from what they normally get. Overall this is versatile and stylish looking jacket that it could be worn on and off the bike (It doesn’t scream “I just got off my motorcycle”) while offering all the protection/utility that good motorcycle gear should provide

Great value & understated style with a great fit with tons of pocket space. Bought it this winter and it's bullet proof, warm & completely wind proof. Armor is top notch although I did add a bio armor back protector which fit perfectly.

Very comfortable while riding -if you have a thick neck it can be too tight when closed up-but NO wind gets in.I added a piece of 2 sided velcro to make the collar comfy. I recieve compliments on the jackets looks ,especially as it 'fits" my Bonnrville T100.
Pros Rugged, Great Value, serious bullet proof, Fashionable

Both this jacket and the REV'IT! Shade jacket have a slimmer fitting shape. If you wear an XL in the Shade, I would also recommend an XL in this jacket.

I stand corrected! It looks like there are a few versions of this jacket in circulation. The one that I had in our warehouse at the time did not have a pocket, but all recently made jackets should have one.

Ok, so it seems that it is a random feature with this model. It may or may not have back pocket protector. I guess there is no other option as to only buy it at the shop, not on-line. I am glad they don't make motorcycles. You could get one with breaks or without.

Chris K., I'm a little confused about your answer. I own the black version of this jacket, I bought it earlier this fall, and it definitely has a velcro mesh pocket on the inside of the shell where back protection can be inserted. I'm not sure if you were just looking at an older version, or perhaps the wrong jacket, but this definitely does have a pocket where back protection can be inserted.
