Eh...
Other than shabby knee foam there is no hint of armor.
The materials are basic, but adequate, as is design and build.
It will work, but if you want more protection, features, and quality materials, look at something else.

You get what you pay for.
I was very excited to get these in and was so disappointed with them. I did not like the fit of these pants and there's basically no protection in them. I would imagine a good pair of jeans would offer the same amount of protection, which isn't saying a lot. The knee armor (more like foam padding) sat very low and I don't think they will offer much impact protection in the even of a crash.

I quickly exchanged these for Dainese New Drake pants and while those are $100 more, they are easily worth it. The Dainese pants are very nice fitting, have better materials thoughout, and has great protection in all the right areas.

Good but bad knee protection
Everything is excellent on this pants except for the knee protection... It's a joke. But it is removable.

Great Air Flow, Hot in the seat area!
Great pant! I wear the forcefield protection underneath and still manage a lot of air flow. Hot in the seat area when off the bike and temps are up but I wouldn't sacrafice protection for comfort.

Very comfortable and great air flow but not much protection
The pants have great airflow and are super comfortable but do not offer much preotwction. The pants have an adjustable waist that comes in handy if you are wearing basketball shorts or sweatpants underneath. The sides also zip all the way up to the knee although im not sure why. Good pants if it is a hot summer day and just cruising around the city. Not wheeling. Lol

well made materials
Pants fit good and look to be made to hold up to average riding.
The fit is like most pants with knee pads low until sitting on bike. I have 32 inseam and they fit great, zippered legs work well for fitting over boots. Protection is average but looks like it could be upgraded if I choose too. like any pant , they will be warm when stopped in 90 plus heat.

Pretty good, not perfect
Overall, these pants are pretty good. They fit my 5'9", 155 lb frame pretty well in a size M, with room to fit my knee pads and protection shorts. They are fairly fitted, becoming more snug towards the bottom. They are advertised as having a lot of air flow, but I only rate them as moderate. The fact that I always wear pads underneath does have an effect on the airflow. If you plan to run raw underneath, you should be just fine. I do noticed airflow in my more sensitive areas and inner thighs, which are not padded up.

They do flow considerably more air than my kevlar jeans (with the same pads underneath), so they do fulfill their intended purpose. Just don't expect airflow comparable to wearing a mesh jacket, and you won't be disappointed.

Nice overpants!
Bought these as overpants for the occasional commute to work on my bike. Tried Joe Rocket Phoenix 2 pants at first but even the Medium was overly baggy and looked awkward. Ended up getting the Air-Flo pants in size Large based on comments about them running small and they fit nicely over pants without too much excess material. I suspect a Medium would have fit well if I didn't use these as overpants, as I have to cinch up the waist pretty far on the large. For reference, I'm 170 lbs, 5'11", usually wear 32x32 pants. Fit is about right for a Euro product, which is to say probably a little on the small size for Americans.

Build quality is very good. Love the zippers on the side that allow you access the pockets on your street pants inside. Wish there was some sort of zipper or velcro closure for the outer pockets.

A couple of complaints: I would have liked to see CE rated knee armor at this price point instead of these useless foam pads. The pants also seem to run a little short as the hems ride up above my ankles when I'm on the bike (consequently, the knee armor also rises a little too high). The AGV Sport Solare pants, which I also own, does not have any of these issues and uses proper CE-rated armor in the knees for $50 less, so I'll continue to use those when I don't need overpants.

Good for warm weather riding
Looks great, fits great, solid quality for a good price. Not sure about the knee protection and there's no hip protection at all. Decent airflow, better than jeans. I wear 34 x 32 jeans and the size large fits perfectly. Easy in and out with full zips. No cuff adjustment to snug up around boots but I suppose that helps the airflow.

Extremely small fit
I tried these on at a local shop before ordering online with revzilla. The fit is insane. I'd normally fall into the Large Tall size category at 6'2" 190lbs, 34" waste, 34" inseam in jeans. The XXL fit me and that is crazy. When I say fit, I mean: I might be able to wear them as an overpant, but most likely just wear some thin shorts underneath.

I'm returning them. After sitting on the bike they're too short for my height; they rise up above my boot with my feet on the pegs.

I never wore them out, but here are my thoughts:

Airflow: excellent. There's mesh everywhere.
Protection: ehh. There's enough nylon in the right places. Good enough for summer commuting.
Armor: A joke. You might as well cut some pieces off of your mattress cover and slide them into the knee pockets.
Fit: EXTREMELY small, but if you pick the right size (2 sizes up) they have a good shape to them and my favorite features were the elastic panels and long boot zippers.

I say: steer clear. Not worth the money, alpinestars should chalk this one as a loss.

Sorry nice textile pants if your riding Dirt Bikes. I wouldn't use these on the street because the lack of hip armor and knee armor (only foam inserts) Could not do it ... Returned.

Good pants for the price, they don't offer the best protection but you get what you paid for. However they do hold up to their name, they offer amazing airflow, not once has my legs gotten sticky with sweat. The air just keeps on coming in. Very comfortable as well, no restraints anywhere.

Does are knee foam pad be swap out with Alpinestars CE knee pad?
Ngoc Thach N on Oct 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The knee foam is removable and should be replaced. Its crap, really. Im sure Alpinestars makes knee guards for it but I use knee guards that strap directly to my leg to avoid the shifting.
Are there pockets to add knee and hip armour to these pants?
A shopper on Feb 2, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No. The pants come with temper foam in the knees, they are short and wide (5"x7"). I had a seemstress install larger pockets in the knees for the Alpinestars Smart Guard kit (7"W x 12"L). She did have to sew through the whole pant, including the lining, well worth the upgrade. There is no hip armor option as there is a zipper on the hip area. I have Icon armored shorts, they are a good option. These pants are light weight for summer, not race level protection. All this gear is generically sized and varies from brand to brand, a little bit of customizing is required for better fitment and protection. Good luck.
Can the foam pads be upgraded to CE armor ???
A shopper on May 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The answer is yes but only the replaceable style protectors and only in the knees - no pocket for shin protection or hip protection.
I'm 184 cm tall, waist 104 cm and hip is 112 cm. What size of this pants is fitted for me?
A shopper on May 14, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Based on your height of 6 feet and .5 inches (184cm), your waist of 40.9 inches (104cm) and your hip dimension of 44.1 inches (112cm) we would recommend the size 4XL, which is not currently being produced for this particular pant. These pants are offered in sizes XS-3XL. However, Alpinestars does offer a few other pants in a 4XL.
Are the XL's in this pant any longer than the Large size? Im 6'3" and found the L to be a bit too short. Prefer to have pants that do not rise up when seated on bike.
Colin F on Jan 30, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hi Colin,
I bought the L in these pants and had the same problem, I'm 6'2 and when standing all good, but riding was different as the knee pads crept past my knees. Would like to size up to see how the length would be. As I'm in Australia I don't have the option to try another size. Good luck
