Nolan N-COM Buyers Guide
What is Nolans N-com?
Nolan's Communication System: For the first time, a helmet company manufactures their own communication system and builds helmets in which you can install a headset in minutes, without any modifications to the helmet.
What is Blue Tooth?
Wireless communication: with your cell phone if it's Blue Tooth equipped, with your passenger or with your GPS.
Order one per helmet. Installs in minutes and includes earphones, microphone and short wires to plug into devices. These headsets are ONLY for Nolan N-Com compatible helmets, and are unique to each helmet style - there is a specific headset for the N102, another for the N42, and another for the N103/N104/N43/N85. Please choose the headset for your helmet. This is NOT the communication device, just the headphones and mic. To communicate with a passenger or connectivity to your devices, you would need an E-Box also - see below.
Order one per helmet. This is the brains and the battery that powers the microphone and speakers in the Basic Kit. This unit is for "wireless" communications between Rider and Passenger on bikes not equipped with communications. Also communicates with wireless devices like cell phones and other Bluetooth headsets. The E-Box BT3 unit is installed in the small door on the side of helmet to provide wireless communications. Comes with a charger and a battery.
What do I need to order?
For Rider to Passenger communication through a WIRED connection on bikes WITH a factory communication system such as Honda Goldwings or Harley Davidsons, you would need ONE Basic Kit headset for EACH of your Nolan helmets (Nolan N102, N42, or N85 N-Com helmets only) and ONE E-Box BT3 Intercom unit PER HELMET. So that would be a total of TWO Basic Kit headsets, and TWO E-Box BT3 Intercom units for the WIRED communications. You would also need the connecting multi-media wires to connect your headsets to the motorcycles factory system. You can also add a standard multi-media wire to connect to cell phones, MP3 players, GPS, CB Radios, or other devices.
For Rider to Passenger communication through a WIRELESS Blue Tooth connection, you would need ONE Basic Kit headset for EACH of your Nolan helmets (Nolan N102, N42, or N84 N.com helmets only) and ONE E-Box Blue Tooth Intercom unit PER HELMET. So that would be a total of TWO Basic Kit headsets, and TWO E-Box Bluetooth Intercom units for the WIRELESS communications. You can also add Multi-Media wires to wire in MP3 players, GPS, CB Radios, or other devices - NOTE: these additional devices can be made via a wired connection to the headset OR Bluetooth enabled devices can be paired directly with the BT3 unit. Bike to Bike communications can be achieved through the use of hand-held radios connected to the headsets via a Multi-Media wire, or by linking Bluetooth units through the their Bluetooth connection. Blue Tooth range between bikes is limited to the current technology which is about 500 Yards.
For Rider use of Blue Tooth compatible cell phones, GPS, etc... through a WIRELESS Blue Tooth connection, you would need ONE Basic Kit headset for your Nolan helmet (Nolan N102, N42, or N85 N-Com helmets only) and ONE E-Box BT3 Bluetooth Intercom unit, plus any accessory wires to connect your other non-bluetooth devices to the headset.
The most recent iteration of the N-COM system was produced specifically for the N104. If you have the N104, please disregard the information above as your helmet has a different solution. The N-COM B4 is an all-in-one bluetooth system that integrates into the N104 helmet. The N104 is pre-configured to accept this system and the B4 microphone, speakers and battery have specific cutouts already designated in the helmet. When purchasing a B4 system, no Basic Kit, or E-Box is needed, however, the B4 currently works ONLY with the Nolan N104 helmet. Conversly, the N104 can ONLY accept the B4 as an N-COM bluetooth communicator.
